Since it is a popular brand, I figured it must be better quality than most others, so I got it for my male cat. within 3 weeks, he developed urinary problems. He had blood in his urine, so we took hime to the vet. We found that he had developed crystals in his urine. Our vet said that Purina cat food is suspected of causing this in a lot of cases. The only Purina product he recommends is Purina Urinary Tract formula. The others have too high mineral content & cause problems that can quickly lead to death. Hopefully, we caught it in time. Our kitty is on antibiotics and special presription food to try to dissolve the crystals. Its a shame that a "free" bag of cat food ended up costing us so much. — —... Tue, 24 Jun 2008 02:32:05 GMT http://www.viewpoints.com/rabbit-review-3b8e1 gunthertron0 5 http://www.viewpoints.com/The-Drinkwell-Pet-Fountain--24624-review-d8808 I have three of these in my house.  (I have 7 cats).  I tried the other brand of fountain and found it unacceptable because the reservoir is small and impossible to clean.  The Drinkwell is easy to disassemble and clean and the reservoir is MUCH larger.  I have the additional capacity reservoir so that it doesn't run out of water every day (7 cats, remember?!).  When disassembling it, the only problem I've ever had is forgetting to replace the impeller when I put it back together.  Helpful hint:  It won't run without the impeller!  The first fountain has been with me for a couple of years now and the impeller has become bent and needs to be replaced.  Happily, replacement parts are available at Veterinary Ventures. —  A side note.  Another reviewer specified that a "Con" is that it makes noise if the water is low.  I consider this a definite "Pro" because you'll be able to tell when it's running low and can clean...
