Jo says "Mr. Lucky sure got lucky with Top Fin and a new home." about Top Fin Betta Bits

To the PointOn a whim when I went into PetSmart to get Hanna some Bil-Jac I passed by the beta fish. They are beautiful - especially the males. I've seen them in glass vases and decided to give one a better home than he had at PetSmart. Mr. Lucky gets Top Fin Betta Bits and loves them. — A Closer View — Maybe fish will eat any food but really Mr. Lucky watches for me to come over and give him his 3 to 4 pellets (depending on their size) twice a day. Note: the clerk at PetSmart told me to give him 3 once a day but when I got home I read the correct amount to give him. These are tiny pellets and I literally take out 3 or 4 and put them on the surface so I don't give him too many and overfeed him. — The pellets most of the time float. I've noticed that only recently has Lucky gone down to the bottom of the vase to look for food. He usually waits at the top. I drop one in and he looks for it and eats it. I drop another one and keep going. My friends just drop a pinch...

The dang thing... Can't teach it to sit up, beg, roll over or anything. Just kidding! He does know when I'm coming with the food though. Smart little goober. — To the person(s) having a hard time keeping them alive; several points to consider. #1) When you clean the tank, use a mild detergent, rinse & let dry thoroughly. #2) If you have decorative rocks, BOIL THEM! Then rinse using cool or cold water in a Mesh Colander. #3) Feeding; I find feeding mine every other day using five or six Betta Bits works better vs. every day using one or two bits. He's over a year old & still doing OK. — I've been told the males don't get along...so don't buy two male Beta Fish. I just have the one. Sometimes he swims around so fast, it's amazing. Sometimes he likes to lay in his 'fake plant' and rest. Inexpensive to buy, own and take care off. Thumbs up....

I have been into tropical fish keeping for over 15yrs, and have witnessed on more than on occasion, walmart employees improper handling of the fish they try to sell, not mention the fact I have seen them sell visiblily sick fish to customers. I tell people I see in the store thinking about buying fish there, to rethink it and go to a local fish shop that has more knowledge and better policies on proper handling and treatment of their fish.
cymrufem says "Wally World's fish dept: totally disgusting!" about Walmart Any Fish

I am a new aquarium owner and was in the East Peoria IL WalMart on Sunday. What I found was disturbing, to say the least. The "tanks", if you can call them that, are devoid of any decor, or any noticable food , save for what seems to be salt randomly sprinkled on the bare bottoms. I saw at least 6 dead fish, including a pleco, a large gold Koi, and 2 pictus cats on their last dying gasps. Oh, also a fish which had to have been there a while, as I could not begin to identify it. The poor thing was half eaten away! The "employees" either don't realize, or don't care, that dead fish, aside from being upsetting, will contribute huge amounts of harmful ammonia, which endangers every other fish in their system. Imagine your child, perhaps wishing to begin fishkeeping, coming upon such a disgusting sight! — I know a Petco employee who was offered a job at another local WalMart, in their fish dept. He said "no way", and termed the place a "killing field". — Wally World needs...

I have many of the great reviews on PetSmarts fish. Perhaps it is just my lack of luck that causes me to pick out the wrong fish, however, I have had no luck at all with any of them from the teeny goldfish to the Betas. — Is there a secret to keeping them alive? Of course I've fed them, cleaned their tanks, used all the recommended water treatments and have been known to talk to the fish too. All to no avail. — I think I'll stick with my cats and Bugg! —...

I have had tropical fish for years and for as long as I can remember, even as a small child, my family has always used TetraMin as the staple food for our fish. I took my aquarian habits from my Dad's lead and after seeing him use TetraMin for years with wonderful results, when I had a place of my own and bought my first fish tank and set it up, I bought TetraMin as well. I have never had any problems out of it and my fish seem to love it. The colors are brite and beautiful on my fish and they are healthy.
I've been using this staple flake food for a long time with all my fish. With the exception of the fish that require live foods, this is an excellent and dependable nutritional food. I've fed my rainbows, angels, tetras, bottom feeders, and apistos. They are all thriving and have had no health issues since eating this food. It has no artificial ingredients or colours that are dangerous to fish, it never clouds the water, and the fish take it quite greedily. Always remember when feeding that 'less is more.' Fish can easily go three days or more without eating and it will be healthier for them to feed sparsely than to...

I used to have the biowheel type of filter system, and found that it resulted in the aquarium going cloudy without warning. You never felt that you truly had a fresh filter. And I always had to run a backup filtration system, because the bio wheel would get clogged with solid waste. I really like the Whisper products because they process a high volume of water per hour, and water quality remains crystal clear between changes of the bio bag (the drop in packets with activated charcoal) The one thing that is a bit of a pain is the sponge that goes into the slots along with the bio bags, because it does trap alot of solid waste and get rather slimy, requiring thorough rinsing at each bio bag change. It is definitely cheaper to buy the bags in the multi packs, and fill the pouches yourself with the activated charcoal provided, but I have found over the years that what is in the pre-measured pouches is really not adequate, and I buy a container of Xylon...

The Ecobio-Block — What is it? — The Ecobio-Block is a block that you place in your aquarium that will help keep your tank clean, smell-free and a healthy place for your fish (and turtle) to live. The Ecobio-Block releases calcium and minerals into the water that keep it clean. — Fish will be able to live in the same water, without being changed for years. — The Ecobio-Block was very easy to use. All we had to was rinse it in water and let it soak for 24 hours and then place it in the aquarium. Simple as that. — The Ecobio-Block can be purchased at onedersave.com. — Prices vary according to aquarium size. — 3-40 gallon aquarium - $43 — 40-100 gallon aquarium - $58 — Pebbles for a 3-20 gallon aquarium - $37 — My Viewpoint! — After many years of many fish and turtle aquariums, I was sick of having to clean the water again and again.
Judypooh says "Buyer Beware When Purchasing Fish Here" about Walmart Any Fish

I've purchase several fish from WalMart. Just because they seem to be the only place near me that carries fish. The first 4 were cheapies that I got just to amuse my daughter, I figured they'd all die. And I was mostly right. Three of them died fairly quickly and the other one hung on for 2 years. By that point I invested in a larger tank. i got the starter fish from Walmart as people had recommended to just buy some cheap fish to get the tank going - I did just that and 90% of them died right away. A few months later I felt confident to buy fish there that cost more than $.25 each and bought a Black Moor. Sadly this fish infected my other fish with ick. After that got treated, he promptly died. — —

So basically if you are just going to buy the cheap little goldfish to get your tank ready, then go ahead, just always assume they have ick and treat accordingly. Look elsewhere for keeper fish. — —...
