kittensbite16 says "easy upkeep and lovable" about Bearded Dragon Lizard

Very lovable, not expensive to feed, easy to keep up with. My beardy is 7 years old and still healthy, highly recommend to someone who doesn't have a whole lot of money but wants a pet. most of the money you have to spend is in the inital set up.

Pisaboni says "BEARDED DRAGONS ARE NOT AN INEXPENSIVE PET!" about Bearded Dragon Lizard

Coming from someone with 17 beardies amoung other reptiles, I can tell you that bearded dragons make great pets BUT they are still reptiles that require specific care!!!

Don't forget to see my beardies stories at the bottom of this post after you read the following:

There are so many bearded dragons that never have a chance at living to full life expectancy because their owners are just uneducated. Before you get a dragon, or if you have one and are not sure if your giving him/her the proper care than please take a moment of your time to read this...

Bearded Dragons NEED:

10 gallon tank minimum for a baby (hatchling - 8")

    -Newspaper/Paper towels as bedding

20 gallon tank minimum for a juvie (8"-14")

    -Newpaper/Paper towels

40 gallon tank minimum for an Adult (14"+)

-I recommend switchin to White Prosco Millet when your beardie is full grown which you can buy in bulk for cheap at any Ag-type stores. NEVER USE SAND OR CALCI-SAND AS IT CAN CAUSE IMPACTION!

-Basking Light-...

...

animallover17 says "ball pythons are docile, yet picky" about Snakes Ball Python

Ball pythons can be one of the best snakes to own if you have an idea of what you are doing. It is true that they are very tame, easy to handle, beautiful, low maintence snakes. It is also true that they are some of the most picky eaters I have ever met. I personally own 3 snakes and worked at a zoo in the reptile department... my ball python is the hardest to feed out of all of them. She went through a 2 year phase where I had to force feed her pinkies or liquid food because she wouldn't eat. She usually now eats every few weeks to few months and I waste more money on food trying to get her to eat. Now don't get me wrong, she is a very tame girl and I trust her around even my 3 year old neice and 7 year old nephew. the other down side to ball pythons is that they are a moderatly large snake if you aren't prepared for it. they can be up to 5 feet in length and are very stocky. Like all snakes they also have certain requirements like humidity to prevent shedding problems, correct temperature,...
...

veronica2009 says "Such a great pet!" about Snakes Ball Python

Hi, I would just like to say a few words about these snakes-> Ball Python. Well to start off i love these snakes. I think they are beautiful snakes but just misunderstood...I have owned a few my self. The first snake I owned was a 14 foot female Burmese Python. She was great pet. A lot of people were so scared of her. And I don't blame them I would be to. Will at first I was but then I got to know her. And she really was a gentle Giant. She was very clam all the time. But sadly had to give her to the zoo. My Ex boyfriend got her by her tail and tried to pull her out of the bushes to put her back in her home and didn't realize he had her by her tail and she swung back and got a hold of his arm. it took 4 grown men to get her off of him. But he was fine and so was the snake. Anyways back to ball pythons I have a had one back in 04 but I had a baby and to give her away to a family friend. That snack is doing good.
...

My daughter bought a baby bearded dragon with her own money. He was expensive. We had him for a little less than a year and he got sick. We took him to the vet and he said he needed vitamins. He died anyway. Then a friend gave us an adult bearded dragon. She is great. She is a lot of work though. She needs crickets (about 15) every other day. The need to be dusted with powder if they are from the pet store because commercially raised crickets do no have enough vitamins. She needs meal worms every other day. She needs fresh greens everyday and fresh water. She should be warm, between 90 to 100. She also needs sunlight or a substitute to help digest her food. Her poop needs to be cleaned out of her cage immediately. If it is not the crickets may eat it and if she eats the crickets after she will become very sick. All crickets that have not been eaten should be removed. Lots of work but the dragon is the coolest best lizard to have as a pet. It is best to...
...

humpbacks1962 says "Want a Gecko? Consider a Leo" about Leopard Geckos Leopard Geckos as Pets

Are you looking for a unique and gentle pet? Geckos make wonderful pets that you and your family are sure to enjoy. The leopard gecko will grow to about 10 to 12 inches in total length and can be quite happy living in a 10 to 15 gallon or larger aquarium. Remember that smaller spaces will cause the gecko to be stressed. You want your gecko to be happy and to have a comfortable home so try to give it at least a 15 gallon aquarium. They have a very long life span as far as pets go so if you get one be sure that you are willing to make the commitment to take care of it for a long time to come.
...

OK I have always been an animal love but up until a few years ago I have only owned fury or feathers friends. This all changed once I started a vet tech program and worked with their reptiles. They had a Beared Dragon who was as sweet as could be. I fell in love and started to research Dragon. I soon found out what great animals Beardies were. My hubby & I started looking into getting one. I found an adorable little guy and with a little begging he came home with me. In April I will have had Gibby for 3 years and I have loved everY minute of it. Beardies are such easy going reptiles. They are great fo adults and chilfren alike. I have three kids and they all love Gubby. Now if only I could talk hubby into getting me a girl ;)
...

myjoyoverflows says "Leopard Geckos are the best introduction to reptiles" about Reptile Leopard Geckos

Leopard geckos are excellent for beginners looking into bringing a reptile into their home. They are gentle in nature and are very unlikely to try to bite you. They're easy to take care of and are even a good pet if you have kids in your house because they have a very calm way about them.

They usually eat either crickets, mealworms, or superworms which you can find at your local petstore, a chain petstore, or can even raise at home (given the proper knowledge and equipment). They require and under tank heater (we use Zoo Med), a humid hide (they need it to help with shedding), a cool hide (hide on the opposite side of the tank that the UTH is on), and calcium. You'll need to put something on the bottom of the tank, repticarpet is nice, tile is super easy to clean, you can even use paper towels.

These geckos don't mind being held and and though they might be shy at first, warm up to you quite nicely if you hold them regularly.

They should be kept by themselves, or females together. ...
...

I have had several corn snakes and have fed both live and frozen mice. T-Rex Arctic Mice provides an affordable way to provide easy to feed, safe food.

The packaging allows for small amounts of mice at a time, which means your pet always has fresh food. And no surprises for family, when they find a pile of mice in the freezer.

I am an animal lover and really strive to give them the best food and products available. I don't spend top dollar but try to get the most for my money. Tetra Reptomin is an inexpensive food for turtles that floats and is highly visible so you can see if your animal has eaten. I have two turtles in an aquarium with goldfish and they are thriving each day. One has really grown more than the other and I think its because he has a bigger appetite. They love the food and come up to the tank as soon as they see me waiting to eat. They eat immediately and seem to just love the food. The food is hard so I think it is good for there jaws since they have to bite down on it to chew.
lsumelanie01 says "My turtle is happy with Tetra Reptomin Floating Food Sticks." about Tetra Reptomin Floating food sticks

I have had two red ear slider aquatic turtles. Both of these turtles have been picky eaters, as turtles go. I tried a few different types of food from PetSmart in an effort to find the perfect one. After trying other floating pellets, I bought a reasonably priced but large bottle of Tetra Reptomin Floating Food Sticks. The sticks were somewhat long, but I solved that by breaking them in half. My larger turtle had no problem with the original size sticks, and ate them quickly. My smaller turtle also enjoyed the smaller sticks.

These floated just until they were soggy. My turtles loved chasing these around the tank before gobbling them up one by one. I do wish these did not break apart after becoming soggy, but that is the nature of all floating pellets or sticks. Overall, these are a great value, have good nutritional content, and my turtles did not grow tired of them after eating them a few times. Great to use in additional to edible plants and feeder fish.
...

GratefulFred says "Great snakes, but not best for beginers." about Snakes Ball Python

Ball Pythons (python regis) are great snakes, and are often referred to as good beginner snakes. After over 30 years experience with snakes, I must disagree. While they do tend to be docile, they can be difficult to keep. They are not known to be good feeders, and are not as forgiving so far as habitat and environment as some snakes are. They are also prone to certain health problems, if their specific needs are not kept just right.

They are, however, incredibly beautiful and graceful, and once you get their care down, make great lap snakes. They can be quite friendly when they are properly handled on a regular basis.
goprdu says "Hooray for floating food sticks!" about Tetra Reptomin Floating food sticks

My husband and I have two turtles. Their names are Frank and Bernard and they love the tetra reptomin floating foot sticks. They eat the other types of floating pellets but these are their favorite by far. When I pick up the container the turtles swim over to it and if I shake it the turtles shake and bob their heads to it. Then when I put the sticks in my hand they follow my fingers. My favorite part is when I put a stick in my hand and put it near the water and they eat the sticks right out of my hand. It made my turtles much easier to get used to me being near them and handling them for vet visits, tank cleaning and all the other things that go with owning pets!

Unfotunately the Tetra Reptomin Floating food sticks are not available at my local pet store anymore (as I have recently moved to a new city) so I have had to make do with other floating foods like pellets, fruits and vegetables. But I can absolutely tell the difference between the food sticks and the pellets and...
...

herplover22 says "they are much safer than feeding live " about The National Register frozen rats/mice

not only is it less cruel for the mice. especially if you have a baby mouse that starves to death because you snake went on a hunger strike, but also because those big rats especially do not always go down with out a fight. i have seen snakes eyes get ripped out and lips get torn apart and once when a rat was left in the snake cage over night, the owner came in in the morning to find his snake bleeding and his back was all ripped up from the rat. plus live animals can carry parasites. so even if you dont care about the mouse/rat think of the care of you snake and the ease for you. if someone is not willing to "waste" the extra money to ensure that their animal is safe then they do not deserve the pet in the first place. and for those of you who say it is more "natural" nothing about their care is natural is provides them VERY little exercise when they are trapped in a glass box from "hunting" a mouse
...

BlueSunshineFL says "Lovely Home For Your Turtle" about Pet Supermarket Turtle Swamp With Mini Lagoon

In October 2008 I found a quarter-sized turtle in a friend's backyard. I immediately grew attached to him, named him "Chowder" then "Frank Burns" then back to "Chowder" and went out searching for a decent tub to keep him in until he is big enough to be released into the lake.

Pet Supermarket had the perfect home: a curvy plastic "swamp" with tiny stairs leading to an island in the middle that the turtle would need for sunbathing. There is also a plastic palm tree that fits like a lego on a part of the island. This is obviously a home for baby to teenage turtles. Eventually Chowder will outgrow this habitat. For the past seven months, however, he has grown slowly while still able to swim freely. Be careful to only fill the swamp up halfway with water. It provides enough room for your turtle to swim, but prevents him from crawling out (turtles are master escapists)

There is also a smaller "lagoon" habitat that is a third of the size of the swamp, but is really only for newborns. I didn't...
...

chickyloo30 says "Turtle Dock! My turtles love them!" about Zoo Med Turtle Dock

We have three red-eared slider turtles and in their tank we put two Zoo Med Turtle Docks. Aquatic turns need a chance to dry off and sun themselves and these docks are great for that. They move up and down according to the water level. They seem like they are easy enough for my turtle to get on and they use them frequently so they must like them. I think they come in a few different sizes. We have two different sizes and they have lasted several years.

A couple of cons about the product would be they seem kind of expensive for what they are and they are hard to clean and scrub off. When we clean their tank, we have hard brush scrubbers and hand held scrubbers and it is still quite a chore to get them clean. In fact, I'm not sure you'll ever get them truly clean after your first use.

The material seems like a hard, sponge-like, foam. Our turtles haven't showed any interest in biting them, etc. They just use them what they were designed for--basking and drying out. ...
...

chickyloo30 says "This tortoise house may not be for you." about Zoo Med Tortoise House

A little while back we purchased the Zoo Med tortoise house for right around $100. We bought it because our tortoise was growing and she needed a new space to be when she wasn't walking around outside or in the house. What really drew me to this product was the fact that you can connect more than one together to provide a bigger space for your tortoise to roam and it was lightweight so I could take it outside if I wanted to.

Overall, I think the product is okay. I really like the idea of being able to create a bigger space and I like the fact is has a door for the tortoise to go through to get out of the heat or away from the lights if they'd like to. The bad thing about this product is our tortoise can't see out. She is used to glass tanks where she can she us and see out. I wish the side were cut out where the wood is thinner and I wish that they were instead glass or plexiglass. I think this would make our tortoise much happier. When she is in there she scrapes at...
...

chickyloo30 says "Yellow-foot Tortoise" about Tortoise Yellow Foot Tortoise Yellow Foot

If you are thinking of adding a tortoise to your family, it is a great decision, but here are something to keep in mind before making your decision.

They will grow. We have a yellow foot tortoise at home and have had her for about six years. She started off small (about 3-4" in diameter). She has double in size and we know she isn't done growing. She will get to be about the size of a football. So make sure you have adequate space for one and check to see how big it will get. Some get fairly large.

You need the right housing, etc. Different tortoises need different things. Our tortoise needs humidity so we have a humidifer by her tank as well as a warming mat, reptisun bulb and 2 uva-uvb basking lights. Our tortoise also like to come out and walk around the house. (Yes, she has an accident now and then so make sure you have some good pet accident cleaner like Nature's Miracle). She'd prefer to not have to be in her tank. Your tank/housing will have to grow as the...
...
