Although I prepare a large batch of a homemade cooked food mix for my three parrots each week, I still like to give them something different a couple of times per week as a little treat. I've been using Beak Appetit cook and serve mixes for a few years now and have been very happy with them. On my last "spoil the parrots" shopping spree, I picked up a 13.5 ounce bag of Beak Appetit Cheese Teaser which is one version that I hadn't seen or used before. — Beak Appetit Cheese Teaser is a nutritionally-balanced, low-fat cook and serve mix that is suitable for all types of birds, including macaws, cockatoos, African greys, conues, finches, lories, cockatiels, parakeets, Amazons, Eclectus, etc. It contains ingredients like basmati rice, whole wheat, millet, lentils, cracked corn, split peas, carrots, peanuts, pecans, hazelnuts, brazil nuts, cashews, kelp, tomatoes, peppers, celery, etc. It also has many vitamin/mineral supplements. The packaging suggests...

About 14 years ago i saw a little bird in a pet store, it was cheap and looked interesting. I stuck my finger in the cage and it bit me hard drawing blood. the bird had some spunk, I purchased it with my allowance (i was 16) and off i went home. — Little did i know what I would be in for with a Quaker Parrot. i was used to cocktiels and thought this bird would be the same boy was i wrong. — Noise — Destruction — Theft — Bodyguard — Jealously — all the words associated with my quaker bird. I named him Julian and I didnt know Julian was really a girl, but oh well. — She was noisy, she sang, screamed and was rarely quiet unless a towel was over her cage in my bedroom. — She broke things, tore things apart and shit on stuff she didnt like. — She stole things she did like and took it back to her cage to make "something" out of it, like art i should say out of my stuff. Hangers, pencils, paper, strings, jewelry, just about...

NeoMeeko says "My bird loves this!" about Kaytee Spray Millet

My birds have always, always loved millet. It is hard to find a birdseed with lots of millet in it, which my bird prefers over any other seed. We get him millet spray and attach it to the side of the cage so he has lots of the millet that he loves so much, as well as the other seed that he has from his regular feeding. I think keeping your bird healthy and happy is important for a healthy and happy relationship between bird and ownder. The price for the millet spray is awesome as well, it is not expensive at...

I had been hearing raves about Bird Paradise Ultimate Blend Parrot Food for a couple of years before I finally decided to see what everyone was talking about. A good friend of mine was visiting their bird superstore in Burlington, NJ so I asked her to pick up a couple of pounds of this dry mix for me. After using it with my three parrots for a couple of weeks, I have to say that it is probably the best parrot food that I've ever seen. — According to the Bird Paradise web site, Ultimate Blend is a nutritionally-balanced blend of non-colored pellets, human-grade nuts, dried fruits, vegetables, and herbs. They state that this parrot food is made fresh daily at the store and that the recipe is a secret. A quick look at the bag reveals that Ultimate Blend contains things like shelled almonds, banana chips, freeze-dried green beans, dried corn, shelled walnuts, peas, pellets, raisins, raw shelled pumpkin seeds, pineapple, coconut flakes, dried chili peppers,...

Zupreem fruit flavored pellets are loved by my African grey and white capped Pionus. Each of them has their favorite shape and color pellet.

I have three spoiled parrots: an Eclectus, a Blue & Gold Macaw, and a Timneh African Grey. Their diet consists mostly of fresh veggies, fruit, brown rice, and beans with a bit of seed/nut mix as a snack mid-day. Lately, I've gotten into the habit of giving them a treat each evening before their sunset bedtime. They usually get Lafeber Nutriberries (including the Sunny Orchard variety) for their treats, but I picked up a bag of Lafeber Nutri-Nuts at PetCo about week ago and have been using them since then. — According to Lafeber, Nutri-Nuts are "specially designed for your bird's taste buds". Basically, they are a round nugget of peanut bits, seeds, corn, oats, and millet surrounded by an outer peanut butter cookie-type shell. They are fairly large and remind me of those extra-large gumballs that you could guy in little machines when I was a kid. There are 15 Nutri-Nuts per package and you get 5 of each color...

Although my three parrots eat a diet of mostly fresh foods (rice, beans, veggies, fruits, pasta, etc), I still buy manufactured foods and pellets now and then to offer as a treat. I knew that the crew really loved regular Nutriberries, so I picked up a bag of Lafeber's Sunny Orchard Nutriberries for them last week. — This product contains things like corn, millet, oat groats, safflower, soybean meal, wheat, cranberries, apricots, golden raisins, etc. It also has various vitamin and mineral supplements to ensure that your parrot gets all of the 40 nutrients essential for good health. The round "berry" shape is supposed to attract your bird's attention and also minimize waste. As any bird owner knows, they make a huge mess when they eat and the amount that hits the cage floor equals if not surpasses what they actually get into their systems. Lafeber claims that a whopping 96% of their Sunny Orchard Nutriberries will be consumed! —...

I rescued a cockatiel from the woods near my home some years ago. I asume that she escaped from her previous owner and would have no doubt soon perished if I had not stumbled upon her and took her home with me. I soon discovered that she was a VERY picky eater and I had quite atime finding suitable food for her that she would eat. I bought some of this spray millet and hung it in her cage. Soon she was working away at it and seemed to be having quite a time enjoying not only the food itself but the activity that it gave her to replace some of the boredome of being caged all day...

I received a 3 ounce sample of Beak Appetit Moist Protein Supplement in one of the last containers of Beak Appetit that I bought. At first, I kind of wrote it off and tossed it into a drawer. After a month or so, when their diet had suffered a but due to vacation and wedding preparations, I decided to add this product to their meals in an attempt to assuage my guilt. — According to the directions, you can add Beak Appetit Moist Protein Supplement to cooked food or sprinkle it on top of pellets or seed mix. I added the entire 3 ounce bag to a batch of sweet potatoes mashed with low-fat yogurt, cinnamon, vitamin E, and red pepper flakes. I usually add peanut butter to that mixture, but I was competely out so I figured that the Moist Protein Supplement would be a nice substitution. — I hung around for a few minutes after giving them dinner to see what they thought about their modified sweet potatoes. Two of the three are picky eaters who...

When it comes to feeding my pet birds and breeders, I approach nutrition for them the same as I do for our food and other pets. I try to find the best diet available for them that is affodable, of course. Parrots can be very picky eaters. Sometimes they have a dislike for a certain color of food or texture just as other animals and humans do. This makes it a little tricky in finding a seed mixture that all your birds will "like" and eat. — — I purchase this seed mix in a 50 lb. bag at a local pet store that gives discounts to breeders. This is one of the pet stores that I trust my babies to go to and be sold at. They give them individual attention and get to have time out on the playstand during the day. — — When I first opened a 50 lb. bag of this seed I was immediately impressed with the mixture.

Having a medium to large parrot is like having a small child--they are considerably intelligent and social, they're feisty and noisy and get into trouble, they require a lot of attention--they genuinely NEED it for their well-being. They can also be very rewarding and delightful, for the right person who is able to meet their needs and deal with the quirks and difficulties of living with a wild animal. My Timneh African Grey Parrot, my companion of the past 18 years, is extremely dear to me. When people meet him they are often fascinated and intrigued about what it would be like to have a pet parrot. I encourage people that it is necessary to really EDUCATE THEMSELVES before even considering getting a bird, and consider seriously whether they AND THEIR FAMILY will be able to deal with the behavioral issues of a parrot, whether they are able to provide adequately for the socialization, dietary, health, and other needs of a parrot, and...
