We had a lot of travelers and luggage so we got a minivan..the person at the desk didn't know how to type and took a half hour to type in our info. Then handed us keys and sent us into the pitch black parking lot to find our own car. The first van was filthy all over inside and out and had dents, scratches, and it looked like someone spilled crap all over the carpet. We demanded a new one. At first it looked fine...it was dark out and was a black car. It ended up having dents, scratches, the molding around the inside of the window was hanging off and it was filthy all over, and had two flat tires that we weren't aware of until we left. On the shuttle going back to the airport on the way home we all shared our "advantage experience."
...

wrighthoward says "Avis unresponsive with accident claims, poor customer service." about Avis

I was invloved in an auto accident with a person who was driving an Avis rental car. It has been over 3 weeks and I have had no rersponse from Avis. I clearly am the victim of Avis's poor customer service and obviously overworked claims department.

I have been assigned a claim number, adjusters name and phone numbers, yet after several attempts to reach this person and her supervisor by phone, alll I get is an answering machine and NO ONE respnses. I then faxed an accident report showing their client was clearly at fault, along with the estimate for damages and still absolutely no response.

I don't believe that I would ever rent a vehicle from them because of the poor customer service.

zadarlta says "The Worst Customer Service I Have Ever Experienced" about National Car Rental

On October 30th, 2009 I rented a compact vehicle from National and Returned it Tuesday the 3rd of November. On my way to the San Diego, CA drop off location I got lost and was in a hurry to catch my flight to new york.

Upon dropping off the car I forgot to grab my Garmin NUVI navigational system because I was in such a hurry. I realized I didn't have it with me upon boarding the flight to new york. I immediately called their customer service and told a man about my situation and he told me he would call me back within 48 hours. Two days passed and nothing was reported back to me. So i called again and this time i was directed to the lost and found department. I could not get ahold of anybody so I left a message on their answering machine.

I kept doing this for 5 days straight. Still NO ONE reponded back. Finally I got so fed up that I called the main toll free number and demanded service, and alll they could tell me was that "the car was checked by many people and nothing...
...

I booked a Full size car and had a double upgrade coupon so was basically planning to get a Minivan but after calling the rental location was informed that there are no minivan's to rent. So far so good. The customer service asked me to goto the nearest airport location and pickup the van ( she politely mentioned they will add additional airport tax ). Before leaving for the airport I thought of booking a minivan incase the upgrade doesnt work ( which somehow I knew would not work ! )..amazingly a third party website allowed me to book a minivan at a decent rate at the original location !!!! After reaching the airport, they increased my daily rate by 50 bucks and did not allow my coupon - reason being this coupon is valid for an upgrade to full size only, not sure why they charged me a rate of full size and then "upgraded" me to the same car....so i showed them the other reservation ( minivan at a decent rate at the original location ). They did not allow that booking since it was not for...
...

My husband's company rented this car for us, three months ago. When we went there to pick up the car, we just sign the contract as we taught that it's all about the agreement between them and the cowpony. they also took our credit card and said they just need it as a deposit. but after three months we understand that they charged our credit card 750 $ per months for the insurance that we didn't need at all. and it costs us 2250 $ for 3 months. we went there and they said you signed the contract and we couldn't do any thing.

now we should pay 2250$ for nothing, what do you think about such a company???????????
...

While picking up a rental car from Avis in Madrid, Spain; the agent said that the reason that minor scuffs on bumpers were not marked on the paper work, was that every car in their fleet had scuffed bumpers and that "damage" would only pertain to a cracked mirror or lens or a significant dent. Upon returning the rental, I was conversing in English to my friend when I heard the original avis employee who gave us the car telling the other employee in the kiosk that if it is the silver VW to list damage to the rear passenger side bumper for an extra charge. Though I do not look like the typical Spaniard, I am from Spain and speak fluently. I interrupted, speaking in Spanish to tell the employee that I understood very clearly what he just said and explained that I would not be paying extra for any other charges. He then exited the kiosk and never returned during our visit. The other employee then accepted the car and reluctantly signed the receipt noting no other damages.

Should be called Shifty Car Rental not Thrifty!!
On a recent trip to San Fransisco in October of 2009 we rented a car from Thrifty Car Rental at the SFO Airport. The man who rented us the car told us that if we prepaid for the gas that if it was not empty when we brought it back that we would be refunded the difference for what gas was left in the car. As we had done the same with other car companies and it had worked out well and was honored, we went ahead and took his advice and prepaid for the gas.

When we received the car it had a bad odor. As if it had been sprayed with something to cover up something even worse. We use the car as we had no choice and continued on with our trip.

When we returned the car the invoice was wrong so we went to the desk to ask about the refund for the gas not used - mind you there was a half a tank of gas left in the car. We were told that the man who rented us the car lied to us. I couldn't believe that they just stood there and told us that their own people...
...

3/23/2008 I was given a PT Cruiser at the Thrifty Car Rental in the SLC airport instead of the car I requested and paid for. I was hurried out the door because they were understaffed and had a huge line. About 10 minutes after I left I noticed a small crack in the windshield. I immediately called Thrifty and they told me I would be ok, but needed to report it when I returned the car.

When I returned the car I was told it was my fault for not finding it when I left and that I would have to pay for it. I was very upset but since I have MasterCard and used it for my purchase I was relieved that my insurance with MC would pay for the cracked windshield. I faxed over all info and thought I was taken care of. Thrifty actually charged a different credit card than I authorized and was charged $34 in overdraft fees from Washington Mutual. To make things worse, they sent me to collections!

Now I have 2 collection agencies trying to recover more that 4 times the original cost they told me I......

Reserved a car on line, two weeks prior to flying into Denver, Co. airport. Not impressed with agent. Car issured to us had 53,000 miles on it, 5 dents, and numerous scratches. Both interior and exterior, could have used a good cleaning. After a long day of travel, I failed to refuse the car, and left on my travels. The following day, we left Denver. On our trip west, we noticed the brake rotors were warped, and sqeaked some. By the time we got to Grand Junction, we found the local Thrifty rent a car, and inquired about trading vehicles. We were told that many Thrifty's are franchised, and that they are not "connected" to Thrifty at the Denver Airport. Next we called for road service...they said they would come and get the car....BUT...if they decided the car did not have a serious problem...that we could be charged for the tow truck sent from Salt Lake City. We finally gave up and drove the car back to Denver. I guess no one cared about our safety! When the car was checked in, the girl...
...

Lying, standard operating procedure even about mpg. Blame sudden increase in prices on "taxes" which were already included in your quote. They will laugh in your face if you complain b/c they are not disciplined by management for lying and crappy service, they are rewarded. You will pay more than you agreed to or you are not getting a car and cars at SeaTac are scarce. The car you get will be dirty inside and broken despite less than 30K.

CarRentals.com never mentioned the mandatory insurance fee Costa Rica charges, even when you have your own insurance. All it said was 'Total with Taxes & Fees". Thrifty chose to charge $20+ for this insurance bringing our reservation from $12.99/day to almost $35/day. Not very Thrifty. You can pay as little as $7.99 for this. Thrifty had no options for us & by the time you get to Thrifty from the airport, you're stuck and have no real options. Find a different rental company & do your research to avoid the bait & switch. They were horrible to deal with and I saw 3 other people while I was there upset as well... 2 left. They were unwilling to do anything to help satisfy the customer... nothing. I will never rent from Thrifty again.
...

popcorn2-rm says "SUCKS! Can't Use a Bank Debit Card" about Budget Rental Car

Budget Car Rental at the San Diego Airport & overall company is AWFUL! You cannot use a Bank Debit Visa/MasterCard for their higher rentals.

We reserved a Scion & when we arrived, they were completely SOLD OUT of all their larger family vehicles. After flying 8 hrs with 2 toddlers & arguing with the rental people, we ended up having to take a Dodge Caliber. These vehicles DO NOT hold 2 pieces of luggage, 2 car seat, 2 pack & plays & a tennis bag.

The people at Budget were very rude, not understanding & refused to accommodate us to a larger family vehicle unless we had a major credit card.

Once we completed the rental, we called the customer service line & they refused to help us. I also wrote a letter to the corporate office & no return letter.

THEY SUCK!!!
...

AprilRosen says "Excellent Service For Groups and Vip Clients" about Image Rent a Car

To all the folks over at Image Rent a Car. I just want to extend my appreciation to you for the great service my family and I have always received from you. You are the only company we rent from when we fly into the New York area. We travel here from the U.K several times a year and always dreaded having to rent a car because we always get crammed into some little Dodge, when a friend back in the UK heard of my complaint about rental car company's in New York, he recommended I give Image a try.

Doing business with you all has been a real pleasure. Ann is the sweetest, kindest person on the planet.

On one trip not to long ago she could not arrange for her delivery guy to pick up our rental at the terminal so she met us in person to ensure we received the service Image is known for. We look forward to many more trips to the New York area and continued enjoyment of the wonderful and exciting vehicles you offer.

Thanks much, April
...

bizzee1 says "National Car Rental is my first choice every time" about National Car Rental

National Car rental is my first choice every time. As a frequent business traveler I am always in a hurry, so I am an Emerald Club Member. This service is free, and they even reminded me that my license was about to expire! All your information is kept on file so there is never any waiting, you just choose your car, and show your Emerald Card and drivers license at the check out gate. Talk about no hassle! No matter what airport I travel to, whether there is an on site rental, or offsite location, I know I have a car waiting for me with the key in the ignition ready to take off. Even the shuttle drivers are great. Check in couldn't be easier, and I have never had to wait. There is always someone ready to hand me a receipt so I can be on my way. Another great thing is an emailed receipt for later when I have to do my expense report. It's as if they have thought of everything a business traveler needs.
...

Susie-34668 says "Enterprise exceeded our expectations" about Enterprise Rent-A-Car

We actually got our rate for Enterprise after booking our hotel, through hotels.com. They asked if they could help. The price was cheaper than going through any other Internet source.

Three days with a mid-size car for $111.80, picking up at Chicago's O'Hare airport.

We got the bus outside the terminal building and took the 8-10 minute drive. They took us straight to the door. As there were lots of people waiting we were given bottled water. Nice thought.

The line went really fast. Our guy knew his stuff and proceeded quickly. He of course offered us to bring the car back empty and pay for the gas in advance. We declined.

The Manager told us that our car wasn't ready but he had an upgrade of a Ford Edge, at no extra charge. We took it.

The vehicle was great and rode really well. We did a lot of driving from Chicago to Rockford, and then traveling across Rockford.

Upon our return we filled the vehicle half a mile from Enterprise. As we drove in a guy came out and looked...
...
