JDGeorgia says "Convenient way to see seven countries in a short time." about Princess Cruises - Star Princess Baltic/Russia

The Star Princess is a lovely ship. The cabins are beautifully appointed and comfortable, the on-board amenities are extensive, the entertainment is delightful, and the food (served around the clock in a variety of restaurants) is delicious and plentiful. It makes for a luxurious vacation.

That said, I'm not normally a cruise ship traveler. I prefer to create and follow my own itinerary and have the freedom to change my plans if I want, but I thought it was a great way to see the Baltic. The Baltic nations are not the easiest places to travel, particularly Russia, and there's a lot of ground to cover. On our cruise, we visited seven countries--Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Poland, Estonia, Germany, Russia. If we had been doing that on land, we would have been packing and unpacking and on and off trains and cars constantly. It would have been exhausting. In addition, navigating immigration for that many countries would have been a nightmare, especially in Russia where special...
...

I recently took a cruise on the Carnival Inspiration and was blown away by the level of service this ship offered. This was my first budget cruise and was a little skeptical at first, but after checking out the room, food, excursions and shipboard entertainment I was wowed. The servers were magnificent, food was as good as any other luxury ship I had experienced. The room was great. The size was perfect, beds very comfortable wiht plenty of closet space and drawers for our clothing. We had a great day at the pool with a reggae band playing Bob Marley songs while we sipped tasty adult beverages. This ship offered great experiences while onboard such as; made to order sushi, great shows, drinks with the captain, a beautiful casino, lots of clubs and a really funny comedian. We loved every meal we ate and really liked Grand Cayman Island. I will take this cruise again.
...

Everyone has their own idea of what a perfect cruise vacation is. That's why Carnival believes in giving their guests a variety of entertaining options -- one more fun than the next. You can choose to spend your time browsing the Carnival Freedom duty-free Fun Shops, dining in the variety of eateries, relaxing in the lounges, dancing in the clubs or checking out Carnival Freedom's Seaside Theatre -- a 12-foot-high by 22-foot-wide LED screen located on her Lido deck. It's your choice to do whatever you want, whenever you want -- even if that's nothing at all! We departed from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and traveled throughout the Eastern Caribbean islands. With 2 fun days at sea, it was exciting to visit San Juan, Tortola, St. Thomas, and Antigua. The fresh ocean air does wonders for your spirit and mood. The food was delicious and plentiful. With stupendous service, what more could we ask for?
...

I am not a cruise lover because I think you have limited time at the ports of call but this Alaskan cruise was adifferent experience. Its not like a cruise in the Caribbean were all you see is water til you get to your destination here you are constantly looking at beautiful scenery. I also had the opportunity to see wildlife throughout the cruise. Best part of the trip was probably our visit to Hubber Glacier. Wow! is probably the only way I can describe it. We were right there. The staff on Celebrity was great as well. From the waiter staff to the people that made up the rooms they were all great. They also had an environmentalist (I forget his name) talking about all the wildlife we would see in Alaska and he was great (an I'm not an a very green person) but he was very funny and informative. If I had to say one negative about the cruise is the length of stay at the ports especially at Ketchikan. In Juneau we went on a whale watching cruise and were able to see over a dozen whales as...
...

My husband, myself and 3 other couples went on a cruise on the Carnival Freedom from Oct 10 -18, 2009. We had a fantastic time! The ship is beautiful, our room steward, Skinner, was the best! We ate in the Lido Restaurant and had fantastic waiters, head waiter, Jonathan, was the also the best! If you wanted seconds on anything, just ask and they will deliver, even the lobster! We enjoyed the shows that were offered, but did notice they weren't as good or as many as shows we have seen on previous cruises, maybe the cruiselines have had to cut back like the rest of us. We also ran into some uncomfortable situations during the cruise with the large group of gay men that were on this ship (175+). They made it uncomfortable for many of the cruisers, in the pools and hot tubs, and also on certain decks after dark. We experienced and heard a lot of negative talk from many others about their experiences with this group. I feel that the cruiseline should have told us beforehand...
...

Eariler this year we took an Alaska trip on the Norwegian Cruise Line ship Pearl. I truly loved it. I had did my research on other cruiselines but this one caught my eye -- Freestyle cruising ((what I want)). This was my first cruise so it was going to be Alaska. The ship was hugh and it was beautiful. The staff was very friendly and made you feel right at home. I would have to say that the fact that you didn't have a certain time (time scedule) to go eat was great. It gave us the joy of doing what we wanted when we wanted and that included eating. Although we had excursions on every port therefore we didn't get toenjoy everything the ship had to offer. The Pearl had a bowling alley which we played a few games. It was small but the fun was there. They had plenty places to eat on the ship with a few specialties. The specialty restaurant charged a fee but the price was small. Food wise; the food was great and you get a variety. They had many things to do night club, bars (a few), casino, etc....
...

On the Vision of the Seas for a 12 day cruise that included Greece, Israel for 2 days, Egypt for 2 days and Turkey.

Ship was always clean and cabin stewards are the best I have experienced.

Food was well above what I had expected. RCCL always has excellent service, but the dinner menus were exceptional. Every night had a fruit based cold "soup" that tickled my palate and the rest of the meals were well above the fare for RCCL. They may have found that the food determines a lot of the mind set of passengers.

Our tour guide in Egypt was one of the nest we have ever had. An educated (masters in Egyptology) man that had a great fun-loving personality and played "psycho-dramas" to illustrate the mythology and other facets of the tour using the passengers as the actors. Highly educational and fun. Enjoyed the learning and the man. Food on the excursion was poor and my wife got ill from the last meal served at La Meridian Hotel.

Guides, irritatingly, seemed to always take the front seats instead...
...

Not a lot to say except please do not book cabin 4163 unless you take earplugs with you. We went on this cruise to celebrate our 30th Wedding anniversary, we had booked and paid for a Celebration deluxe package for the day, this was delivered 3 days early and the special breakfast was well let me just say not worth mentioning. I could go on for ages but won't however just to give you an idea of what we had to encounter on the 5* cruise ship I have uploaded a photo of the fridge in the cabin. note the build up of Ice at the top, the mold and mildrew on the side and the filth on the bottom. The staff were not good the noise in the cabin so bad we could not sleep for 3 nights and got through a packet of headach tablets and we even had the fun of watching cockroaches on deck at night - as I have told CELEBRITY CRUISES I could have had the same holiday noise, lack of sleep, rude staff, muck up's and cockroaches if I had opted to go to San Antonio except it would have cost me less than a...
...

This is one of the best vacations you can take. I go on a Royal caribbean ship at least once per year. I was on the Granduer last October and had a great time. We had to miss 2 of our stops due to a hurricane wiping out 1 island, and a storm closing in on another. The captain did a great job and was able to get us into another port. The only problem we had were the nasty people screaming at the staff for missing ports that they wanted to go to. I think we should have put them in the dingy and gave them a compass. Royal Caribbean cannot control the weather, just like a hotel can't on land.
...

the ships decor and atmosphere is terrific. but every activity costs a fortune and you have to use a sail and sign card (no cash accepted). the fine dining wasnt that fine, they had alternate dining of crappy food wiht fancy names, like fresh eggs that were powdered eggs, and only unsweetened tea and water and coffee to drink. They only have coke products for your fountain card, and they only come in can form. I didnt purchase one and i had tea or water all day, and oj in the morning. When i asked for oj in teh day they wanted to charge me. So if you dont enjoy water or tea you will be thirsty. Their 24 hour pizzaria offers pepperoni that id never pay for so thank god it was included, adn the five deli options never change. The other pizzas offered had weird things on it like artichokes and anchovies, and the pizza maker loved to ignore customers. My fine dining was awful, wrecked by some redneck with no shoes always comming to dine drunk and loud, and even though we asked the waiter to...
...

My husband and I have taken two cruises, both on the Caribbean Princess - same ship and even the same room! Obviously we loved this cruise line and this ship so much that we were thrilled to return for a second voyage. There is no vacation that seems like a dreamy getaway paradise more than a cruise, and Princess knows how to do it up right! I love all the destinations, but the days onboard are equally as enjoyable. One of our favorite features of the Caribbean Princess was the outdoor theatre - a huge screen above the deck. At night, all the beach chairs are covered with theatre covers and everyone who shows up for the movie is served free popcorn. It is a treat to lie there at night feeling the cool Caribbean breeze blow through your hair while you relax and enjoy some entertainment. The food on board the Caribbean Princess is also wonderful; every night we were served up unbelievable gourmet delicacies that would make any chef proud. Everything we ate was fantastic, and the best part...
...

I cruise fairly frequently (2-3 times a year). Carnival Cruise lines draws a younger, rowdier crowd than most of the other cruise lines. This is has advantages and disadvantages. The pluses are that we are younger (early 30's) so there are always more people our age on Carnival cruises. The cons are that we really enjoy elegant cruises, and Carnival is more casual.--and with a lot more kids/teens. You very well might hear yelling/laughing/running up and down the halls at 3 and 4 in the morning.

The Miracle is one of the newer, larger ships. We enjoyed the ship and the various rooms very much. The food was nicely done. A favorite was the international station on the top deck that changed each day to represent a different culture's food. The entertainment was fun. We also enjoyed the itinerary and the excursions.

Over-all it was a nice trip and a very nice ship.
...

annkitbo says "Smaller, older ship, but still a great cruise!" about Holland America Line - Rotterdam

We selected the Rotterdam due to the type of cruise - a European tour that traveled into the Black Sea. A smaller ship was needed to navigate some of the passages.

Pros:

* The itinerary - the ports of call were top notch and the excursions available were fantastic

* The staff was very friendly and delivered excellent service

* The on-board entertainment was nice

Cons:

* The average age for the passengers was 60+ (we are in our 30's) so that's just something to keep in mind if you are a younger traveler

* It was a national holiday in one of the countries that day that we visited, so most of the shops and attractions were closed - it would have been nice if the cruise line had notified us of this in advance. Lesson learned for us is to check the holiday schedules of other counties prior to booking travel.

Over-all, it was a wonderful trip and I would recommend the trip and the ship to future passengers.
...

Holland America, in general, is a fantastic cruise line. But the cruise I took with them to Alaska was off the charts! Just absolutely spectacular!!!! When you're in Alaska, there is absolutely nothing like it. All those pictures you see on postcards of mountains and streams and sunsets and icebergs....it's real life! It was the most awe inspiring thing I ever saw! The land excursions with Holland America are decently priced. Dont get me wrong, they still are an arm and a leg, but at least in Alaska they are totally worth it! And not anymore exspensive with Holland America then with any other cruise line. So I find for Alaska Holand America is the way to go, they pretty much own the tourism up there, so you're in great hands! Even their ships are amazing, I was on the Zaadamn, it was very nice. Pretty big, had a fun casino on board, lots of nightly activities, great food, and even great music! Every night from diner to about midnight a jazz band plays in the Ocean Bar, they are truely amazing...
...

My husband and I have been avid cruisers for over 20 years. We have now tried almost all of the major cruise lines and always use Princess as the base of our compairasons. We love the formal feel, the unpallelled customer service, and the well planed out excursions and activities.

The state rooms are not the largest in the industry, but they allow more than ample room for the average traveler.

This company listens to your wishes at the time of booking, and I have never had a problem getting my desired tour or dinner time.

Everything runs so smoohly I never find myself spending time in a line at the purser's office, as I often find myself doing on other company's ships.

This last trip I took my laptop and was able to get online from my stateroom. How convenient! I was alloted a number of minutes for the cruise which broke down to about 30 min. a day. While the internet was slow, which I'd expect of a satalite connection, the 30 min. was more than enough to check and respond to...
...

ejas says "Tons of things to do and not too crowded" about Royal Caribbean - Explorer of the Seas Western Caribbean

Granted this was my first time on a cruise - so maybe you should take this with a grain of salt, but... There was soooooooooo much to do on this ship. My husband and I enjoyed the rock climbing wall, inline skating, and ice rink almost daily. The nightly shows were very entertaining. The food was excellent. The staff was exceptional. I would avoid any stops in Dominican Republic though. 3rd world is an understatement! Otherwise, the ship itself is amazing. I think its built for 3000 people or so, but it never felt like that many people except a couple of times. During boarding and deboarding (of course) and during the one combined buffet outside at night.
...

ilovebabyblue says "5-Star Vacation for Budget Price" about Carnival Cruise Lines - Freedom

My husband & I sailed on the Carnival Freedom to the Western Caribbean in Sept 09. We booked an "early bird" fare 5 months prior to the trip. I couldn't believe how little it cost compared to my last trip on the Carnival Conquest in 06. It was almost half the price but I enjoyed myself just as much!

The only thing that bothered me on this cruise was that there were very little activities planned, even on "Fun Days at Sea" and the activities they did have conflicted with our set dinner time.

The food is hit or miss. Best hot dogs I've ever had in my life! Great nachos. The sandwiches from the deli were wonderful. Some of the desserts were excellent and some were just inedible. We'd have to get several plates to find something we liked but we didn't mind since it's all-you-can-eat.

Best thing about the Freedom was the crew. I never saw a crew member who wasn't smiling! In the hallways, in the elevators, even on the islands when they were off work, they were happy & friendly. ...
...

domesticgoddess424 says "Don 't ever book a vacation on Carnival Cruise Line" about Carnival Cruise Lines - Destiny jamaica and caaman islands

The following letter details the events that occurred on the Carnival Cruise ship “The Destiny”, which have led to our dispute against charges made from Carnival Cruise Line. On September 12, 2009 my husband and I boarded the Carnival Destiny whose itinerary included Grand Cayman and Jamaica. Upon stepping into the ship’s lobby, we overheard a fellow guest complaining about the ship’s safety and engine not working properly. IMy husband immediately went to the information desk and waited for over 20 minutes in line to be told that the ship’s propeller was not working properly and that the cruise was no longer going to the destinations that we originally purchased this cruise for. He was offered a 20% discount on a future cruise and directed back to the ship’s terminal to speak with a Carnival Cruise Line Supervisor to get further information and to find out all of our options. He left me in the lobby as I have difficulty standing for long periods. When he entered the terminal...
...
