LisaCarey says "Visiting the grandparents and holiday travel is easy" about Continental Airlines

There are many advantages to living in Houston and one of them is that Continental Airlines offers many non stop flights from Houston to were I want and need to go. Much of our family lives in Ohio and without Continental Airlines it would be difficult if not impossible to see our family (with them traveling here or us traveling there) as often as we do. My daughter has flown using their unaccompanied minor system (which is expensive but never messed up); I have flown alone with two preschool children in tow and so far every experience has been excellent.

What I like about air travel with Continental Airlines

at check in they offered my husband a security pass so he could help me get the kids to the gate

they always take excellent care of my unaccompanied minor daughter as she travels back and forth

the flight attendants let ME handle the children - with the occasional helpful suggestion (say about ears hurting)

daily flights back and forth to where we need to go

check...

...

nenane7 says "Got back a shopping bag left behind on MWAir plane" about Midwest Airlines

Just wanted to leave a nice word for the Midwest Air staff who retrieved my shopping bag from the DSM-MKE flight this past Sunday.

I forgot to grab my bag full of gifts and some nice personal items from under the seat in front of me and realized what happened when I was already in NYC. I called immediately and, disheartened not to hear a live person's voice on the lost-and-found number, left a voicemail with my info. Well I got a call back Monday morning. Cindy from MWAir confirmed the item description and I have received my bag today.

I've had jewelry stolen from my checked baggage while flying American and I couldn't get a hold of them for weeks! Needless to say the process took months and my filed claim was denied. Just goes to show, flying small airlines is the way to go.

Thank you!
...

BenMannes says "Could this airline get any WORSE?" about US Airways

When I first started flying US Airways in & out of DCA in the mid 2000's, it was a pretty basic airline. Not that bad. Since they merged with America West, god help them. Let me count the ways of how this airline sucks:

1. Totally uncomfortable - they make it impossible for any coach passenger over 5'10" to NOT walk away with knee injuries. Since they cram the planes full on almost all the flights, good luck getting an empty middle, a bulkhead, or exit row to stretch out in.

2. CHEAP - They charge you for bags, blankets, food, and even tried to charge you for soft drinks. They did away with ANY in-flight entertainment so I hope you brought a laptop small enough to open in the cramped space between your lap and the passenger reclining in front of you.

3. RUDE - Could they find a more disgruntled group of flight attendants and ground crew? They know how ridiculous their job of being a mobile waitress is and obviously take it out on the paying customer. Not to mention the fact...
...

When I travel, I always try to find a Continental flight because I know that most of their flights are on-time and reliable. I also find their seats to be a little roomier. I recently flew American Airlines because it was more convenient, but was surprised at how CRAMPED the seats were! In an airplane, when traveling with a lap child (child under 2 traveling on my lap for free), every inch of space counts -- big time! We are very nearly always treated courtesly, although some of the flight attendants seem to be getting a little bit of an attitude, like "we're better and we know it". It's great that they take pride, but they need to remember how they earned that reputation.
...

The planes are decent but their customer service is not just poor but downright scary. My daughter tried for 4 hours to get her flight changed in ZA but kept getting put on hold and having the phone connection drop. I then tried from the US. The first time I was told that their systems were down so try again later. When I did get through I was told that to charge me for the additional fee I had to FAX them a copy of my credit card, a picture ID, and a form with all sorts of personal information. Can you say perfect ID theft? I would not use SAA until they leave the 1980's and join us in the 21st century. It makes we wonder about their maintenance and other systems.
...

During this year I flew to Las Vegas and Boston. We were served breakfast (cereal, milk, banana) on both flights. Wasn't exactly a five course meal but was good enough to last the rest of the flight. I loved the fact they offered a red eye flight back from Vegas, gave us more time to party! On the flight back from Boston we got a warm ham sandwich, a salad, and candy. Again very filling to last the rest of the flight. The only downside is they only offer meals on flights that are during breakfast/lunch/dinner hours. Usually when you book your flight it shows if meals are offered. Now that they are starting to offer WiFi and DirectTV on some of their flights this airline is just getting better!
...

DisgruntledFlyer says "When you don't mind getting treated like a common cow patty!" about US Airways

Us Airways is the worst airline I have ever encountered! Recently, my husband and I had to make a trip out to Seattle. Upon arriving at the airport to check baggage to Seattle, we come to find out that they are charging $25 per bag, after we had to run our credit card twice, and after being told they do not accept cash at bag check. We sucked it up, went to Seattle and had a great time with family. When it was time to go home, we decided instead of having to run our credit card twice per bag, we would check both bags under my husbands name. This time it came out to $60....but this isn't even the half of it. We board the plane and fly to Phoenix, only to be met with a 40 minute delay of having to sit on this stuffy plane while our illustrious Vice President (and I use this term loosely) was visiting. Due to his visit, they were not allowing any planes in or out of Sky Harbor until Biden took off in Air Force 2. As we wait, the pilot continues to tell us not to worry, that no one is leaving...
...

Phoenix/Mesa airport (where Allegiant flies in AZ) is tiny. Smaller than a Kmart. I've been to bigger houses.

On Monday last, my 82 year old mother and I arrived at said airport, turned in our rental car, and lined up to check into our flight back to Rockford, IL. The line was fairly long (2 flights checking in) and there was only one agent taking customers. We waited for at least 10 minutes. When we finally made it to the available agent we were informed that our flight check in had "closed," which apparently happens 45 minutes before take off time, some 7 minutes before we arrived at the counter. We had been in line at that time. No announcement was made that the flight was about to close. And the best part: the next flight out was Friday.

I swear the woman enjoyed imparting this bad news. I wonder if she also likes to make her own grandma cry or if it's just other people's she enjoys messing with? We pleaded, reasoned, begged, spoke to her supervisor -- all to no avail. ...
...

Parents, please DO NOT book your children/college students on Southwest. They may very well get left behind one or two days because of their over booking policies. Try booking their tickets early with any other airline and you will get really good prices. It really is a cattle cart. It feels like your getting on an inner city bus staffed with metro attendants, rude and unprofessional. No seat assignments, no boarding order. Groups always get split up because they over book the flights by 10 to 20 people. Someone has to miss the flight no matter how far in advance you have booked. Also, when you get bumped off, and trust me, sooner or later you will, you will have to settle for a flight with 1 to 2 stops even when your original flight was a non-stop. Out of the last 5 trips, I have gotten bumped 2 times. It ends up costing more by the time you pay for the missed hotel night, dinner reservations and shows. I have gotten stuck in airports, slept through snow storms and cancelled flights,...
...

On board to Barcelona from Paris , everything went well. However, on Flight 74 from Paris to LAX in Nov. 2009, I was appalled at the behavior of one flight attendant, the only male serving the coach section, late 30s, with a scruffy goatee. First, he missed me when he offered wine to passengers. I quickly excused it as accidental and thought nothing of it. But I started to wonder when after a meal, as he was clearing trays, he practically snatched mine from under my nose as I was finishing dessert. No eye contact, no excuses, just the expression of disdain on his face.

My husband and I began using Southwest Airlines quite a few years ago. We are always completely satisfied with the experience they provide. I really like the online checkin because the sooner you check in the sooner you get to "pick your seat". They board people by groups A, B, and C. If you hurry and sign up 24 hours prior to your flight, you have better chance at getting into the A group 1-15. And once you board, you choose whereever you want to sit. I really like that. When you check in online, you can print your tickets. You can bring 2 bags and they fly free! One thing I noticed is that when they are explaining the safety features, they try to do it in a comical way, and honestly, it helps me to relax, because I don't like to fly, but I like to get places quickly. All in all, we found that southwest airlines is very accomodating to their customers. It's always our first choice because they have great prices and great web specials!
...

I will spare you the details, and I understand that bags are lost from time to time. But the handling of the situation was abysmal. On a trip from Chicago to Paris, my luggage was delayed by about 36 hours. I was told over the phone that my replacement clothing would be reimbursed up to $150 (hardly enough for two days of clothing in Paris). I was also told that my entire cost of toiletries would be reimbursed (46 EUR). I was even given an address where I should send the receipts.

I received the $150 check, and received a separate letter that they would not honor their baggage service reps committment to reimburse for toiletrie items. Obviously, no phone number of email was provided so that I could discuss my claim. I reiterated in writing that United had already committed to reimbursement, and again they wrote me declining to provide what was promissed.

Disappointing to have them lose a lifetime customer.
...

My worst flight experience. I typically would not go out of my way to write a bad review for something, but I was truly appalled by the service I have received on this flight. I was flying back home from my dental school interview in Florida - so I was packed very light. I only brought my suit and a change of clothes for 3 days. Overall, I had a standard carry-on bag (bought from macys, never had a problem getting on the plane with it before), and a garment bag for my suit. As I was boarding the plane, the flight attendant stopped me and told me to check my carry on bag to make sure it fits in their bag model fitter. To no surprise, the bag fit, but I had to push the bag in a little. Please mind there was a line of people behind me watching this. The flight attendant then tells me that I should not have to push the bag in, that it should fall right in. I told her that I'll just take out my dress shoes and put them in my garment bag. The flight attendant then tells me there's no way it's...
...

I Love SOUTHWEST AIRLINES! I love that they are rarely late and they are reasonable! I fly SWA every chance I get and promote this airline to my friends every time they ask what airline I use to travel.

HOWEVER... I would like to caution anyone who plans on booking based off the 'special offers' SWA promotes for extra rapid rewards credit. I recently started booking my rental car thru SWA as well once I saw that I could get triple credits by using Alamo rental car. (I have always used Enterprise). I rented the car and it was an 'OK' experience. I debated whether it was worth it to do the same two weeks later and felt that it would be great getting the extra credits. However...I have had to call SWA's rapid reward center to try and get the credits posted. It has been over a month and still no difference.

I also took advantage of the new flights to and from Boston for DOUBLE credits. I was informed that I needed to register (which I did and they acknowledged)...
...

That's pretty stressful itself plus having to deal with rude people at the airport or over the phone!? No way! These days I am in NC so I am stuck with USAir... what a NIGHTMARE! I usually don't care about the FF miles because I am always looking for good deals and not the airline that much but when the service is so bad I have to think twice and sometimes don't care the extra bucks. What's with USAirways?? Now you can't even call customer services because these people that aren't even in US territory can't help you! You can't even understand what they are saying and they can't understand you or your needs either. I had to put one of my tickets on hold 2weeks ago and this lady charged $100 to my credit card but that's not the worst part, that worst is that when I called them to ask them about this charge they told me that they couldn't see anything on the system and that it was very strange because...
...

We recently traveled to Europe on American Airlines and words can not fully express the fiasco we endured and their blatant apathy and despicable customer care before, during and after our flight.
graphics81 says "Make you pay for their agent's mistake" about Continental Airlines

Despicable customer service. I booked my flight over the phone. I am certain that the Continental agent messed up my flight day on my return flight and send me conformation with the wrong day coming back from my trip. When I called back Continental to say that the agent made a mistake on the day of the return flight, they said they would change in for me for $150 change fee. I did not understand why I have to pay extra money for a mistake made by continental agent and asked to speak to the supervisor. The supervisor was very rude, did not want to listen to me at all and said that there is nothing she can do for me and that if I wanted I could complain to the headquarter. Basically I was forced to pay an extra $150 on top of my already expensive ticket price because on Continental agen't booking mistake!!! NEVER,EVER FLYING WITH CONTINENTAL AGAIN!!!!!
...
