We had gotten this 3-room tent by Coleman. This happend soley by accident. Our new tent that we had purchased through Coleman was broken before we went camping and did not know this till after we arrived at our camping site. Let this be a lession to always test your tent out before you take it camping. It took me five hours to fix it while we were there and it leaked. So when I called Coleman, they replaced it with any model I choose. Of couse, they wouldn't let me do it over a certain dollar amount. Even though the one I chose was not the most expensive, the reviews I had researched had certainly said it was one of the better ones. And they were right about that. There are two rooms, each with it's own flap. Then there is a middle common area. This is the best because when the kids want to play a game inside the tent, they can do so without stepping on everyones sleeping bag, pillows, and clothes.
...

ChrisR666 says "best tent ever" about Kelty Quattro 2

I don't think they make these anymore...but if you're coming across this, best tent ever. Just great. I've slept in my Kelty Quattro2M tent probably ~250 nights over about 15 years. No word of a lie. I can't even remember when my dad purchased it...

I came across this review because I'm looking for a new tent to replace it. After a decade and a half of canoeing, hiking, car camping (motorcycle touring a few times), and random use (set up outside a full cottage rather than sleep on the floor a few times, and lived at an airfield for a while)...it FINALLY gave in, on a week-long backpacking trip through the adirondacks.

The rainfly got a big tear in it during set-up, due to UV damage. Not much point to repair it, the material of the fly is just done. This tent was wasted on that other guy who wrote a review, his still looks new! Mine looks it's been through the wars...grass, deserts, forests, snow, riverbanks, mountain rock, sand...now it's yellowed-grey instead of blue, that's how much I've...
...

GigiandAdonai says "Spacious and kept me dry in a temperate rainforest." about Ozark Trail 3-Dome Connection Tent

I bought my Ozark Trail 3-Dome Connection Tent from Walmart 6 years ago and got a really good bargain. The tent was supposed to be approximately $100 but someone tagged it wrong and it rang up for $34.95. The cashier in the sporting goods department couldn't believe the price so he manually entered the UPC barcode and it came up $34.95 again. He told me that when the shipment arrived those tents were supposed to be priced right at $100 but he would have to sell it to me for the price it was ringing up. He then told me that since his family was outdoors people he was going to buy himself one.

Why would a single girl buy a tent that could supposedly sleep 8-10 people? Simple: I was hosting a campout on my property for my nephews and some of my friends children. We wanted to sleep in the great outdoors so I needed a tent. I thought the 3-dome tent was ideal because my friend, the only other girl who would be at the campout, would share the large center dome with me and then...
...

PAULPRO says "Lightweight, yet hard working." about Eureka Timberline 4XT

I have used Eureka Timerberline tents since the mid-1970's. They are relatively lightweight and very durable. I donated our first Timberline to my Scout Troop at its ripe age of 20 years! It was still very serviceable for summer camp - all the zippers zipped, and "careful handling" over the years when canoeing kept it free of torn fabric.

I bought the 4XT because I like the style and size. I am not fan of dome tents. Tent style/shape/size is a personal choice. I do not understood why tents always seem to be smaller than the manufacturers' spec's. The Eureka website gives the tents' measurements, which are accurate. However, in the real world a two man tent is actually a one-half man tent. I made sure that I purchased a tent that was bigger than what I thought I acutally needed. I am glad that I made that decision. The 4XT will comfortably hold two adults for a night or a week with equipment and cots. It has plenty of headroom for a tall guy (me). The tent...
...

saterry says "Great tent but TERRIBLE customer service" about SwissGear Elite Series 3 Room Family Dome Tent

This is a great tent. There are two rooms and a screened porch that can become a third room. Having two (or more) people to set it up is a must. I needed a sheet for the instructions that were ruined. Customer service is horrible. I waited on hold for quite a long time, finally opted for "leave message for a return call as soon as possible". I also emailed the company at their website. They have not returned the call nor the email. I read this comment elsewhere and chose to ignore it. It needs to be repeated.

Don't neglect to seal the seems with a good tent sealer. I did not and had to mop up over 5 gallons of rain puddles after a big rainy day. My fault, I guess.

I am hoping this will be a great tent for a long time to come. It is too early to say, I got it about 1 1/2 months ago.

i LOVE this tent. it only breaks in very high wind or if you dont stake it down. part of the design is that if it rains you MUST stake it down very well or else the fly will gather water. i have used it 11 or 12 times over 1 year. this past weekend it broke when we got hit by 60 mph winds which tore the rain fly and bent a side pole. thats prettty much all the damage. if you hate this tent, i'll take it off of your hands. i would like another. email me at deadcomputer@gmail.com. seriously, i would like another even if something is broken on it.
by the way the number for the replacement parts is 888-280-7876
you must tell them your model number for this tent. it is kmt 07040
...

jps246 says "A nice introduction to bivy sacks - REI Minimalist Bivy" about REI Minimalist Bivy

Not sure you want to dive head first into bivouac camping with an expensive bivy sack? You might want to get yourself the Minimalist Bivy from REI. It gives you most of the benefits of a bivy sack in a relatively inexpensive package that won't set you back too much if you decide to go back to traditional tent camping.

What is the Minimalist Bivy you ask? It's basically a sack that you slip your sleeping bag in and it replaces your tent. It's waterproof, weatherproof and lightweight. It offers you protection from the elements without all the weight and bulk of a traditional tent. That said, considering it's cost and weight, you will be giving up a few things that a more traditional bivy sack offers. Mainly, the Minimalist Bivy doesn't offer waterproof and weatherproof protection for your head, just a mesh screen to keep the bugs off you.

Not only that, but it's pretty easy to get around the lack of the head protection with a simple shell jacket placed over the sack to give you that...
...

When I decided to take a vacation I also wanted to go camping while I was away. I have a large 3 room tent but putting it on the back of my motorcycle was not an option. I needed to find a smaller and lighter tent to take with me. So I went to Walmart and found the perfect small tent I could carry with me.

Ozark Trail 9'x8' Dome Tent

This Dome Tent is supposed to sleep 4 people, perhaps they meant "Little People" because there is no way 4 adults could sleep in it unless they slept on top of each other 2x2....lol Anyway I also put a twin sized air mattress in with me and with one bag there was room for 1 more with a little room to get dressed in.

Besides the laws of nature would make having 4 people in that small space very uncomfortable as the heat generated by 4 would turn it into a very hot space and not be conducive to sleeping! It was hot enough with just me in it....lol Then how many people do you know that could lay down and not move during sleep?

The sides also go at an angle as it......

It was so easy to put up that I could have done it with out the help of my husband! In fact I think if it weren't for him trying to help me the first time we set it up I would have had it up sooner!!! It comes all nicely folded in a bag with the poles sorted into groups. The poles have an elastic band inside of them that hold them together and make set up a breeze. Even the rainfly took under 5 minuets to set up.

There is plenty of room inside with nice little mesh pockets to help you keep things organized and handy including a mesh attic. There are 2 large D shaped doors that aid in ventilation, and make it easy to get in and out.

Inside the tent we set up an air bed for my husband and I, our 2 girls sleep on the floor next to us in a sleeping bag and then we have a German Shepherd dog that sleeps at the foot of our bed (not on it) and there is still room for a suitcase and a cooler in there. So far we have only been able to take it out twice for 1 night only trips...
My daughter and I took the REI quarter dome UL on a 4-day backpacking trip. I loved the light weight, the ventilation, and the vestibules for our boots. She found the interior a little too small .

My sister in law is an aspiring photographer. So in order to promote her business, she attends a few events during the year. During this time she acts as a studio doing mini-sessions on the spot. One of the best times was the Boo at the Zoo event held here in town. Instead of setting up shop in the open air, where anything could happen (especially here in Michigan), she invested in a First-Up Gazebo Tent to shelter at least from the sun and rain. Just a few weeks ago I attended an event with her where we used this little gem and it is perfect for the vender on the go.
First-Up is Easy-Up

Available for around $80 at Wal-Mart, The First-Up Gazebo Tent creates a 10' X 10' covered space (100 sq ft), packaged in a compact, wheeled travel bag. This size is great since this is generally plot size most even locations give you. It's also good for family gatherings during the summer as a place for everyone to get some shade. The head room is wonderful as it is high enough even for...
...

While my Clip Flashlight Tent from Sierra Designs is showing its age (I've had it for 13 years), it's still going strong and I heartily recommend it as a lightweight 2-person tent for three season camping.

Seriously, this is the tent that just keeps on ticking. I've used it so many times I can't count and besides some leaky seams and a bit of fraying here and there, it's just as good as the day I got it. As for the leaky seams, that's nothing that some seam sealer hasn't fixed.

The Tent

The best thing about this tent is the fact that it weighs just 4 pounds and 8 ounces. That's including the vestibule/rainfly! If offers 32 square feet of indoor floor space and an extra six square feet of area if you are using the vestibule/rainfly. That translates into a roomy tent for one person and a slightly more cramped tent for two people.

My biggest complaint about the Clip Flashlight is the fact that it's only 43 inches in height. That means when I sit up, my head is close to the ceiling. ...
...

We bought this tent last summer to go camping, but ended up putting it in our backyard to use for a couple of days. This tent is great...a little complicated to put up at first. We are a family of seven with five kids so the perfect size for us.

This is one of the cheapest lightweight 2-person backpacking tents out there. It's super easy to set up even for one person. There is plenty of room inside for 2 people but their gear would have to stay outside and the vestibule isn't as quite big enough to 2 people's gear (there wouldn't be enough room for 2 large men inside the tent). The first night I used it there was a storm and I had no leaks and very little condensation inside the tent. It was also about 45deg outside but it was pretty warm in the tent. My one complaint is that one of the walls is a single wall construction and so the rainfly doesn't come all the way down (my guess is to save on the weight) but since leaks weren't a problem it's not that big of an issue.
...

I was looking for a lightweight tent with a small packed size to use for bicycle touring. I came across the Nemo Hypno PQ, and it fit the bill perfectly. I first used it for three separate short, two-day bike tours, then took it on a two-week tour in New Mexico. The small packed unit fits perfectly on the top platform of a front or rear bike cargo rack. The included stuff sack is waterproof, which is nice if you get caught in wet weather on the road or trail. Setup was a breeze using the included integrated pump, and it was easy enough that it didn't leave me gasping for breath, even after riding all day at altitudes higher than I am used to.

With the single-wall design, you do get a little more moisture buildup on the inside of the tent compared to typical backpacking tents, but I never found that to be a problem. I stayed dry in varying temperatures and conditions, including some brief rain showers.

Space inside is good, perfect for one person and gear, or two people that don't mind sleeping...
...

Lightweight, (4 lbs) its an ideal backpacking tent...the only thing I would change, (and its no biggie) would be if the poles folded up just a little shorter, so it wouldn't stick out when lashed under my pack....But it didn't hinder me in any way...

It has a bathtub floor, and the rainfly covers it completely, VERY important in pouring rain. This awesome little tent has TWO doors and TWO vestibules; great for storing muddy gear you don't want in your sleeping quarters. Very roomy, although so far it's just been me in it. (husband does NOT camp!) But the best thing? The rainfly has windows! No other backpacking tent I've seen (and I've looked at many) has this feature...and what a difference to be able to see the sky even in the pouring rain. :) Also, a nifty little "hammock" you can tie on the ceiling, for your book, or towel, or wet socks...

I love this tent!
...

Wow! What a well made tent. I can't say enough about this tent. It is very easy to put up. Because it is single wall, when you zip down the windows you really have an openness. It is not like crawling into a cave. It is extremely durable. Loaded with features. I love the storage bag that fits to the tent with cinch straps--no cramming into a undersized bag. Heavy duty canvas will keep you dry and comfortable. I really love this tent! Thank you Kodiak Canvas...

sdun3 says "The perfect car camping tent!" about REI Base Camp 4 Tent

The REI Base Camp 4 tent is the ultimate car camping tent. We have used it for three years now under all kinds of conditions. We have never had any leaks during heavy rain, nor have we been uncomfortable during hot summer nights as the tent is very well ventilated. It served us well by retaining warmth when night temperatures were in the 20's while fall camping in Yellowstone.

The Base Camp 4 is a high quality free-standing four person tent, optimal for two or three people to have plenty of room. The dimensions are 60" in height and the floor area of 100" x 86" - 60 sq. feet. (There is also a larger six person REI Base Camp 6 model.) It is very easy to put up; I can do it alone in about ten minutes.

It is thoughtfully designed and comes with two doors, a full rain fly (with window) that creates a large vestibule area. The rain fly repels rain exceptionally well and retains warmth as needed. The tent also has interior storage pockets, stakes and a storage duffel.

The current......

cvt2356 says "awesome, basic, easy to set up 2p tent" about Sierra Designs Electron

After doing a bit of research and searching the internet for good deals, I stumbled upon the Sierra Designs Electron. I suppose as background, I consider myself to be a somewhat serious hiker and camper, but cannot afford to spend tons of money on gear. Given that, I am very happy with my choice in purchasing this tent.

Highlights:
-It is easy to set up after a long day on trail
-Small and fairly lightweight without making on feel claustrophobic
-Handles water and condensation very well.
-If weather looks good and you aren't using the fly, there is a awesome top mesh panel from which to stargaze....
