They just built a Sprouts by our house, and I LOVE IT! It has wonderful organic foods, and nice produce, but costs a lot less than Whole Foods. It doesn't have quite the selection they do in some areas, but it is our new 'go-to' place for healthy and fresh foods! They have a pre-prepared section with many choices including salads and sandwiches as well as full meals. The meat department is extensive, and everything is so fresh! Last week they had blackberries on sale for 77-cents a pound - that's less than the grocery store most of the time! Amazing!
...

sorryImoved says "great holiday spiral sliced ham" about Aldi - Daytona Beach, FL

I was skeptical when I found that there weren't any name brands that I recognized but after trying several of their brand items I can honestly say that they are as good or better than national brands. The best buy there is a spiral sliced ham that rivals the famous "honey, spiral" ham that costs 4 times as much. I have tried their canned vegetables, frozen chicken, milk, cakes and other things and can honestly say that I have no complaint about any of them. It's crazy to pay high prices for groceries if you have an Aldi's near you.
...

livingston says "Best grocery store in the world" about Wegmans - Rochester, NY

I have lived and travelled all over the world and Wegmans is the best grocery store out there. They have more store brand products than any other chain. Their store brand products are sometimes even better than the name brand. They double coupons under a dollar. They were one of the first stores to have an organic section. Wegmans is a local company that supports local organizations. Their prices are competitive with other grocery stores. They have tasty prepared foods, baked goods, and deli products. I prefer their smaller stores so that I can get my shopping done quickly but sometimes it is fun to go to their larger stores just to see all they have to offer. You can get new recipes in their menu magazine and they have recipes in the store so that you can get the items required to cook new things. I wish that they actually had sales and store coupons like one of their local competitors but hands down Wegmans is the place to shop.
...

playmynrd says "Get great prices, but be prepared to shop at Aldi's" about Aldi's - Rossford, OH

There are over 1000 Aldi's in the United States, and if there is one in your area, and you want to save money, take a grocery shopping trip to Aldi's. Aldi's offers some brand name products, and some not so known brand, but I have always been happy with their items. Aldi's offers discounted prices on meats, produce, frozen foods, dairy products and eggs, and especially on pantry items. But before you go, you need to be prepared. The carts are in a cart corral and you pay a quarter to unlock one. The quarter is refunded when you return the cart to the corral. When you are done shopping, empty your cart, and as the check-out clerk rings up your items, you bag your own groceries. If you can't keep up, there is an area for you to finish your bagging. They charge for bags, so you should take your own grocery bags. Aldi's does not accept credit cards or checks because it takes too long to process, which is counter to Aldi's policy on quick check-out. They will only accept cash...
...

"my most favorite purchase was $200 of groceries, excluding discounts, and with it came to about $10"... yeah awesome i know.

I used to work for Ralphs in Buena Park but no longer employed there, so i will try to be as unbiased as i possibly can. During my one and a half years as Ralphs i've noticed that when i came to coupon shopping we used to be one of the top stores to go too, but when they started to use the Ralphs reward card it came at a price.

Rewards card:

With the rewards card you get a point for every purchase, excluding cigarettes, alcohol, and milk (these are the main exclusions). When you aquire a minimum of 500 points you will recieve a $5 gift certificate in the mail and for every 100 points you get after that is a $1. The rewards card starts over every 3 months and they will send you a gift certificate for those months (takes 1 or 2 months to recieve). When you recieve the gift certificate in the mail it would also come with coupons as well as bonus points if you...
...

hopper22 says "Magruders will give you an average grocery experience" about Magruder's - Rockville, MD

The Rockville location has been doing double duty for Rockville Magruder's shoppers since the other location in downtown Rockville was torn down several years back to make way for the renovation of downtown. This location, part of a locally-owned chain, is smaller than some others in the chain but larger than some others. Magruder's doesn't seem to have a formula but rather fits its store to the real estate it's got. This site iss located on Rt. 355 north of downtown Rockville in College Park Plaza just north of Montgomery College.

The place offers your standard grocery shopping experience; nothing special about it as it is limited in size compared with the super supermarkets being built since. You'll find what you need: an adequate selection of fresh produce and meat. The store contains a seafood bar and deli but they close early. The fresh pre-cooked chickens are warm -- they keep them in an over unlike some other grocers who chill them. And they're tasty.

The store also offers a good...
...

lilmisssunshine says "Outstanding service & great variety of food" about Ye Olde Butcher Shoppe - West Springfield, MA

Ye Olde Butcher Shoppe is a small butcher shop located in West Springfield, MA. We first stumbled upon this little secret when my boyfriend won a gift card here at a golf tournament/benefit. He loves his meat so we had to check it out. We went in not really looking for anything in particular & we were completely blown away by the awesome service we got. The guy behind the counter made recommendations & went through the different cuts explaining what part of the cow the steaks came from, how to cook them best and compared them each. Customers were coming in and out and all received the same kind of service. Many seemed to be regulars as they were called by name and seemed to know the staff.

Myself, I'm a little squeamish when it comes to my meat. Yes, I do enjoy eating it, but there was a time when I was vegetarian. I don't like to think about my meat or where it comes from. This place was clean and neat. The thought of it being a butcher shop never even crossed my mind. ...
...

amywill5918 says "Great store, great prices, one rude employee" about Albertsons LLC - Albuquerque, NM

First, I want to start by saying that I love Albertson's. They have a great selection and great everyday low prices as well as great deals.

However, my review is on one of their employees. On Halloween, everyone dressed up - I think this is great - to get into the spirit of the holidays. Especially for employees who don't get to enjoy it with time off.

My cashier though was wearing what I felt was a very tacky and mean spirited costumes. Scary because there are too many mean, evil kids out there and here was proof that things don't change when people supposedly grow up.

She had a kick me sign on her back, a dunce cap and, as she told this bespectacled customer - she had been wearing glasses (because of course, all nerdy kids wear glasses) but they got too heavy. Look at me, her costume said, I'm playing the geeky kid.

Child hood can be difficult for those whose parents dressed them badly, or were too poor for nice clothes or actually cared about their studies or were otherwise socially...
...

TimothyL says "Safeway is a good grocery store." about Safeway - Alameda, CA

There is always the reputation that things cost more in Northern California than they do in Southern California. After all, the general cost of living is more expensive (take for instance, rent and gas); so it stands to reason that groceries would be too. Except for Safeway.

Just like their Southern California counterpart, Vons, Safeway in Alameda has the standard deli, bakery, floral department, Western Union station, and lottery dispenser. And just like Vons, Safeway has its Safeway Club card (which is free to join) and has now lowered their prices to be more consumer-friendly during the hard economic times.

Having moved to Alameda in June, I realized there wasn't many choices in grocery stores. Besides Safeway, there was a Luckys (which has been gone from So. Cal. for over 10 years). Safeway is my choice because they also deliver through Vons.com, and my family can send me giftcards for it (as well as Safeway Gas) unlike Luckys. Safeway is my store for Alameda.
...

Market Basket / Demoulas - Chelsea, MA

It's been a long time coming but worth the wait. The brand spankin new Market Basket opened in July '09 in Chelsea and hasn't settled down for one second. It's an amazingly big store that carries a wide variety of groceries for all your wants and needs.

First off, you can choose from two size shopping carts, larger for those great big shopping trips (and also perfect for taller persons), or you have your regular cart for your average size shopping trip, nice to have choices in carts, something I never thought about before this new store opened.

Market Basket offers superior prices over many other local supermarket chains in the surrounding area. On average you can save several cents per item on many of the name brand products they carry. Their milk prices are not to be beat, a $1.69 to $1.89 for a half gallon of name brand moo juice is unheard of. At best other stores sell them for $2 dollars or more a half gallon.

One of the first things you notice...
...

I really love Publix, and until recently I never had a problem with anything. The other day, however, after shopping with coupons for at least 2 months now I was told that they would not take coupons that I had. The week before they took that competitors coupon. They do not have many rules on there site telling you what they can and can not or will not take. I had talked to several managers and had been told they take the competitor I was trying to use. I DO NOT like that they are Not consistent. After talking to the area manager over the phone I have found out this.

The area managers pretty much leave it up to the store managers to decide what to take as far as competitors go. When they take these coupons they lose money. They DO NOT take coupons that are for money off the total. EX: CVS $5 off $25 purchase. I have had a few stores tell me they DO NOT take any drug store coupons and others that will.

At this point I personally feel like that store was targeting me because I had been shopping...
...

Price Rite is a great super market for saving money. Their produce has some of the cheapest prices around. The only problem is if you see a name brand product one week it might not be there next time you go, but their own brands are a very good quality. It is a great stock up store. The first time I went their I couldn't believe the differences in prices. It is always very crowded so be prepared for a long wait at check out. and bring your own bags which is not a problem since I always use reusable bags. Parking is sometimes a problem but it is well worth it for the savings.
...

Landis Supermarkets has four locations although I have only ever been to Vernfield. They recently added a "go" card giving price reductions on gasoline purchases, so i thought it was worth a trip to see their store. The sales circular is posted weekly (they are closed on Sunday) from Monday to Saturday. I am a coupon shopper, and I found a few very cheap sales items that I stocked up on; was able get the local dairy milk without growth hormones and bought enough items that I will get 17 cents off my next fill up for my car.

Landis' double manufacturer coupons, with no apparent limit (i used 13 nestle chip coupons), takes internet coupons up to $3 and has self checkout. One item was marked wrong on the shelf and they gave me the difference but did not give me one of the item free which some stores do. They have baggers on all the checkout aisles and, the biggest thing, everyone was super friendly! If you want to feel appreciated as a customer while still getting good prices,...
...

Soph says "Best Ham Salad Around!" about Heltonville Store - Heltonville, IN

Heltonville Store is located in the small town of Heltonville in southern Indiana. It's best described as the general store of yesteryear. It's run by a man the locals call "Bonehead." Bonehead or L. Faubion is the unofficial mayor of this unincorporated town.

Most of the people that live in this small town or its surrounding area make a trip to Bonehead's to buy gas, groceries or garden items rather than make a trip to another store the closest of which is 10 miles away. It's also a regular stop for the bicyclists traveling from Bloomington and Indiana University over 20 miles away and the ball players from the local park. Lake Monroe can be reached by taking nearby Hwy 446, the scenic route.

Bonehead cuts his own meat and makes the best ham salad for miles around. Fresh sandwiches, snacks and drinks are regularly available for those who stop in to visit. The atmosphere is fun and friendly and once you make a stop to this country store you'll want to visit again.
...

Many years ago I shopped Winn-Dixie faithfully. In recent years the stores have really gone down hill.

Their prices are high, the stores are not clean, and the customer service there is practically non-existent.

Cashiers prefer to talk to baggers, then their customers.

wildlfowerr says "I am very cost conscious, & I shop Publix" about Publix Grocery - Many Cities, Many States

A lot of people think that Publix is expensive. What I do is rather than make my list and go shopping. I look at the Publix ad and then make my list. I do this right from the comfort of my computer chair. I usually buy the Buy on get one free items. I also use coupons. So when they give me the final total, it usually is at list 1/2 of what it would have been if I did not shop the sale items and use coupons.

Publix is always a clean store! You can use the restroom as well without worrying what it is going to look like. The customer service there is awesome as well!

If an item rings up wrong they give it to you for FREE! I do not think any other grocery chain offer that.

Their motto is: Publix, where shopping is a Pleasure!

and you know what, it is!

Thank you Publix :)
...

mrsjch says "Kind employees great store" about Aldi - Syracuse, NY

I always took my daughter to Aldi's, and now my mother and I both shop there. There are a few things you can't get there, but for the most part, we find what we need. Love the fact that most of their prices are lower, and I like the fact that you have to pay to get a cart, that way, you have to return it and they aren't left in the parking lot to bang into my car or just take up space.

Staff is always helpful and friendly. I don't mind bagging my own groceries, at least I know they won't be too heavy to carry.
...

ORDvegan says "Better Than Jewel or Dominicks for Organic Foods" about Trader Joe's - Chicago, IL

Reviewing Trader Joe's Downtown Chicago. Whole Foods-type quality will not be found here. Neither will the variety. Most of the produce seems to be non-organic but definitely a better price than Whole Foods. In addition, this is a healthier option than Jewel or Dominicks in my opinion.

There are certain interesting items to be found. For example, a super yummy snack mix called "Sweet and Hot" (or something similar) which has sesame covered almond slivers with spicy roasted pistachios and sweet peanuts. Plus, the mix is very affordable. Speaking of the nut aisle, the hazlenuts especially are of excellent quality. Also, try the Tres Pinos Red Wine Blend for Only $5.

The people that work there seem to be fairly nice, too.

I do like Whole Foods ALOT better but considering economics I shop at both places. With an occasional visit to Potash on State.
...

froggeywife says "Food Depot is a budget saver!" about Food Depot - Newnan, GA

I didn't shop at Food Depot for a long time because it just looks like a little hole in the wall grocery store. But my mom was shopping there and kept telling me about all the deals she was getting. So finally I decided to try it out. Wow! I am so glad that I did. We are a family of four on a very tight budget so I was often not able to buy very much fresh produce, which we love, and a lot of the meats that I buy were just going up and up in price at the other stores that I was shopping at. It seemed like my grocery bill was going up and I was getting less food for my family. Food Depot has the very best prices on produce and a clearance cart for produce too. I can get what is on my list with hardly even checking for prices and then I go over to the clearance cart and get lots of extras that I normally would not be able to buy. Then I head on over to the meat department. Great prices there too and a pretty good selection. There is also a clearance section in the meat...
...
