ReviewWhenINeedTo says "Snobby snoots run the joint... take your stuff to Monroeville" about Once Upon a Child - Pittsburgh, PA

Just two (of the several) stories we have about this place...

- Took in a basket of clothes and they didn't take much (which is fine, they can only take what they need, right?). But the snooty owner said in a very condescending tone "you don't have the sets together..." And when we told her "but we don't buy sets, just individual pieces," she resorted to telling us the items were also dirty and in poor condition, which is rubbish,. We keep these clothes in VERY good condition. If someone tells me "I'm sorry we just can't take these items right now, but thank you," that would be 1000 times better than the down-your-nose attitude we get from those women (especially the owner) every time we walk in there (not just to sell things).

- I arrived a few minutes before opening and waited in my car for the store to open. When I saw the owner (same sunny twit from above) opening up the door, I unloaded two wheeled baskets from the trunk. I saw her hold the door open in what appeared to be a gesture...
...

I found this store randomly, and am going to tell all of my friends about it! I found so many great things at this store. I bought some new items, and also some consigned - you really can't tell the difference, they only choose quality items, which made my experience that much better! The staff was not overbearing, but available to help when needed! I did find myself waiting for a little bit to get some help, but the store was buzzing, so I completely understood!! What a fun and exciting store. I will certainly be back!
...

twinmom07 says "Just want my clothes back" about A Mom's Haven - Maple Valley, WA

I loved a mom's haven. I told everyone about them and how great they were. The beginning of June I dropped off two big bags of clothes and was told to call and check up on them to see when they would be inventoried. I called numerous times and each was told they would call me back. So I decided one day that I would drive there, which was a half hour drive since I had moved, to see what was going on. To my disbelief A Mom's Haven was empty and so was their sister store My Second Closet. I couldn't find a way to get ahold of anyone and had not been called once to let me know of this change. I understand that you as a business might not have been able to stay open due to high cost, but there should have been a call made to EVERY customer. I was a loyal consigner to your store and I feel wronged. I would have gotten my clothes or I might have money waiting, who knows considering there is no way to contact you guys. So by the time you reopen, my stuff will be past the 3 month mark and even if...
...

Pottery Barn Kids is an awesome store for quality items. This store attracts parents and kids and has a never ending updated style. You will find many unique items to include bedding, accessories, plates, baby items and more. I have purchase so many items from Pottery Barn Kids. Everything is so durable and kid friendly.

Pottery Barn Kids consistently has new items ahead of the current trends. Browsing through the catalog or even through the store can give you so many wonderful decorating ideas for your own house!

We love (and have) the Pottery Barn Kids Star Wars bedding set. This set is just too awesome. My boys both love it. The colors on the sheets are perfect for any boys bedroom.

We have used only Pottery Barn Kids baby bedding, which has lasted through many washings and still looks great! (I have even sold our old sets on Ebay for quite a bit of money)

Now that my children are getting older, Pottery Barn Kids still appeals to me. They have many sets that older kids...
...

I consigned clothes with them in June, I called mid July to see what the status was, I was told they were moving from 8/1-8/15 and that they would have a new name, I was also told I would be called with the new info. Both their number and My 2nd Closet, owned by the same person, I believe, are disconnected. I wrote them a letter asking for new location and number, and wrote please forward on the envelope, no forwarding address. Help!! They have my clothes, have they gone out of business???
...

I have tried over and over to give Once Upon A Child a chance (Robinson). The people in there are so rude whether you are trying to sell or are in the store browsing. She actually yelled at my son for playing with a toy that we were buying! I think the prices are a bit high for used clothing, especially those that are not a brand name. Also, trying to sell something in there is like pulling teeth. I make sure I take only things my kids have barely worn, yet they still tell me there are stains. When I commented that I made sure to check closely for stains, I was told the light in the store brings out the stains! Really??? We had Kid to Kid where I used to live and absolutely loved that store. Prices were much better (although I'm sure the sellers got less) and they had a much better selection of toys. I have gone to the Wexford Once Upon A Child and find them much more pleasant to deal with. They've also taken things that the Robinson store has rejected. I still think...
...

I have been shopping at A Mom's Haven ever since I had my Daughter 4 yrs ago. A while back I brought to them bags and bags of named brand clothes that were in very good condition. When first starting to do so I had no problems recieving my money for the clothes that sold, or getting store credit. After about a year the policys got worst and things seem to get very unorganized. Everytime I would stop in after doing my grocery shopping I would see what my balance would be, I got a differant answer everytime, and not only that but that I could only recieve my money on certains (two) days of the month....those days changed all the time, it was very frustrating that I was the one who had to try and keep track. I just got so fed up I stopped bringing clothes ect to there store.

Just about 2 months ago I had a balance of over 20.00 from clothes I sold, which I knew deep down it had to be more than that...I was just calm and never said a word. I ended up getting a few items and putting it towards...
...

I used to take my used clothes to My Secon Closet. Great people. They then combined with you, A Mothers Haven. I took my items there I guess just weeks before they closed the store. Nothing was mentioned that they were closing/relocating and gladly took my items. I have yet to receive a price list for the items they took and now not sure if I'll see the clothes again or receive any money for them. The clothes were summer items and now afraid by the time you reopen it will be fall and you'll just donate my clothes. I would really like them back so I can take them to another consignment store.
...

I found Do-overz to be a very clean, organized, well priced store. I have been to many consignment shops in the area and I really appreciate how organized the store is, and if i was unable to find something the owners were extremely friendly and willing to help out. I actually came in looking for a glider and unfortunately they did not have any at the time I was in the store, so the owner suggested that I write down my name and number and the item that I was looking for and they would contact me if they got one in. A few short days later I got a call that they had received a glider, I came in and bought it! ;) Honestly I was not expecting to hear from them but was pleasantly surprised that they actually took the time to give me a call when the item I was looking for arrived. I also have a few friends who have consigned some of their things there, and I have heard nothing but good about how organized the owners are with regards to consigners. I would absolutely recommend this store...
...

Okay, so I can not even begin to express my excitement to you!
AMomsHaven says "A MOMS HAVEN IS UNDER NEW OWNERSHIP AND RELOCATING NOT CLOSING" about A Mom's Haven - Maple Valley, WA

For all of you reading these reviews I feel the need to write one of my own.

First off A Moms Haven has been sold to a new owner and is being relocated to a more affordable location. All monies owed to consigners will be paid out as usual by the new owner - Consigner payouts have always been and will remain the 15th to the 25th.

If you do have items on consignment and would like to pick then up please feel free to do so.

Over the last 4 years we have enjoyed great relationships with most of our consigners but there are a small handful that NO MATTER what you do or how you try to make them happy it does not work. These are the few that you read their postings on this website.

I have never stolen from anyone - there was a time in my business last summer when I was in California for several months taking care of my terminally ill mother and then dealing with the after math of her passing. During that time things got a little crazy around A Moms Haven and more consignments were...
...

DISHONEST, DISORGANIZED, FRUSTRATING... JUST DONATE IT!!! How someone "loses" a rocker glider is beyond me. When questioned as to the whereabouts of any missing items, shoulders shrug and hands go in the air but no one gets too upset.... Except of course the owner of the item(s). This is not the first thing that has been "lost" by this shop ( A Mom's Haven) by my account as well as many other people I have spoke to who "attempted" to sell any items through the store. Now that A Mom's Haven is under new ownership they are not currently doing any "payouts". How convenient for them. They're not sure when or if they will be. This means anyone with an account at the store is unable to collect the money they are due. Again, interesting. I wouldn't waste my time in bringing your goods in. Find a reputable, organized, clean, friendly and helpful consignment shop who you can trust and enjoy!! And watch out, because the owner has just joined together with another person so...
...

A Mom's Haven is a great place to shop and consign. The racks are organized by size and gender making it quick and easy to find what you are looking for. The staff is always friendly and the sales are great.

I love consigning with them - you do have to make an appointment but it is worth the wait to get in - The first set of items I took in started to sell in just a few days and I had credit available I could use towards my purchase. All my items have been accounted for.

The owner is a great mom and attends church in Maple Valley. She is honest and hard working - you can tell by talking with her she loves what she does and loves owning a business close to where she lives.

I always enjoy visitng the store and finding great deals on clothes for my children and myself ( they carry womens clothing too)

Recently I had a complaint with A Mom's Haven in Maple Valley. It was not a major issue but because I had also been hearing of other problems consigners had been having I thought it was worth filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. The BBB has this company listed with an "F" rating. Clearly I am not the only person who has had problems. My initial complaint was that I had gone into the shop to collect my consignment money and the owner did not have enough money to pay me. I did end up getting my money but not without a hassle. At first the owner wanted me to come back on a different day, then only after I pressed the issue she gave me some of the money but asked me to go to her other shop to collect the rest of my money. It was a hassle and unprofessional. Yesterday I received a phone call at home from the owner of A Mom's Haven. She was calling in regards to the complaint I had filed with BBB a couple of weeks back. The owner proceeded to scream and...
...

Children's Orchard is a baby and children's store exchange. I found this store through my daughter with my first grandchild. It's a great store with a surprisingly large selection of items for babies and children. They carry clothing, toys, books, baby items and many accessories for sale. Some items even have their original tags.

It's an absolutely great solution to finding a way to recycle the clothing, toys and equipment children grow out of and get store dollars to purchase much needed age appropriate clothing and toys. Unlike a thrift shop, Children's Orchard is a clothing exchange and only carries gently used items. It is well organized and offers an excellent selection of items, brands and sizes.

Spring cleaning your kids closet is always rewarded with a nice store credit or cash for good condition items. Children's Orchard near us accepts items as big as children's beds.

Items brought in to be sold must be clean, without stains or damage, fashionable,...
...

A Moms Haven is wonderful store and provides a much needed service to families living in Maple Valley and surronding cities. I have always found beautiful clothes for my children at a fraction of the cost it would cost me at full price retail stores. I have even found some things for myself as they have combined their womens and childrens items into the same location. A great service for this busy mom. I get to shop for my kids and myself all in one stop. The kids can watch videos or play with toys while I shop.

Not only have I shopped with them for many months I have also been consigning with them as well - I have not had ONE SINGLE issue with the way my items were priced, accounted for etc. I have been provided with a detailed inventory list showing all my items and what they are priced at. Last month I asked for some of my unsold items to be returned as they had been in the store for the agreed upon 90 days and I hade NO PROBLEMS getting them back .

The store was remodeled...
...

This is a questionable business run by two sisters. While the business concept is sound and certainly needed in this area, unfortuantely it's being run by people who are dishonest. Items are supposed to being 'consigned' for 90 days, then returned to the owner or donated. Since there is no formal tracking system in place product, product owners are at the mercy of business owners to account for their product. I have know many people who have taken clothes down for consignment which have been donated to charity or misplaced - never being returned to the product owner. The store owners makes a profit from the clothing that they sell without paying the original owner for their agreed upon percentage. You would be better off donating the clothes to charity yourself, at least you'd then get the write off!...

CUSTOMER555 says "Can't believe this is the same company I know from the CA and OR" about Burlington Coat factory - Villa Park, IL

I must share my feedback.

For years I have been a customer, used to the good customer service and friendly associates on the West coast (CA and OR).

Recently I relocated to Chicago IL and...what a surprise !!!

Horrible CUSTOMER SERVICE! EXTREMELY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!

The associates treat customers with ignorance. No "Hi", no "Buy", miserable faces, making me feel just like I want something for free, or as though I am interrupting their peace.

My observations: There are not enough cashiers during lunch breaks,

Long lines

Usually several employees standing around, socializing in their home language.

I cannot believe this is the same company that I know from the West coast.

Training how to treat customer should be a priority.

...
