My family and I take our dog to Penn Animal Hospital in Pittsburgh's Strip District. We've been taking her to this clinic since she was a pup -- she'll be 13 years old next month.

Each time we've had to take her in to the hospital, her care has been outstanding, the staff has been extremely caring and committed to keeping my family and our dog comfortable and happy through what have been some tough medical situations.

Though the facility isn't as modern as some would probably like, our dog has never had anything but exceptional care. During her last stay in the hospital, during which time she was battling a potentially life-threatening infection, our dog received constant care after her surgery, as well as love and affection from the staff. One worker even went so far as to go out and bring her a hot dog during her recovery when she wouldn't eat the pet food! There was someone there to take our calls no matter what time we placed them, we were given very clear instructions on how to care...
...

I took my 9 year old Am Staff (Hugo) in for a routine procedure (he had edema and was having the fluid removed about once a month) on August 1st. Having had the procedure 2 times prior, one would assume they would keep a record on him, know the situation, and be knowledgable regarding the procedure.

Hugo had a really bad reaction the 1st time he was sedated, so trip #2 we didnt sedate him, and now for the 3rd trip I had gotten a light sedative from my regular vet, which I gave him about 20 minutes prior to arrival. I told the vet tech the situation; been here 2x before, all they need to do is drain the fluid, and that I had given him a sedative. They took him in the back and that was the last time I saw Hugo. What they brought back was not Hugo.

The vet (an intern) had taken it upon himself to sedate Hugo (without my knowledge or permission) and the vet tech obviously didnt communicate to him that I had already given him a sedative. So either way, the vet knew and didnt care,...
...

We got a new puppy last spring. He was a joy but we wanted to get some help training him. Not simply housebreaking him, but to be able to take him to the park, let him off his lease and be sure he'd come back. To be able to walk him and not have him jump on everyone in site. We tried a couple other programs and then called Call of the Wild. Jennifer, the owner, has an amazing staff of loving, capable and firm trainers who do an amazing job teaching your dog and teaching you (and other family members, including kids) how to work together. After a few weeks in their intensive program, he got it. He now goes to Call of the Wild for refresher classes or simply for day care to play with other doggies.
...

My first experience with Dr Jim came because my old vet could not diagnose what was wrong with my then 11 week old german shepherd puppy (she is now a very healthy 2+ y/o dog). Not only did Dr. Jim diagnose and treat the problem, he truly cares about the animals and their humans. When my 6 year old male GSD needed surgery to remove a cyst, there was no other place I would have the surgery done. The customer service and follow up care provided by the receptionist and staff are top notch, not to mention the phenomemal knowledge and skill of Dr. Jim and Dr. Elise. If you are looking for QUALITY care in a truly CARING facility, look no further. I have, and will continue to, recommend Dr Jim and Dr Elise to anyone needing veterinary care in the area.
...

Zebuca says "The only place I Will Leave My Boys" about Dog Day Afternoon - - Orlando, FL

I can't say anything but good things for Dog Day Afternoon. My dogs have been visiting them for many years now. I had shopped around to many doggie daycares but this one is definitely the best.

First, they interview dogs to make sure that they do not have aggressive tendancies. You can also drop your little buddy off for a couple hours to adjust to the setting. The great part is that the dogs are never crated or put in kennels. They have little housing units for overnight guests. The units are little rooms in a large open area that about half-walls.

Dogs do have time-outs and they do have doggie cams, which if you ever watch your babies on the camera, you'll find yourself doing it all day. And saying oh, look what scruffy just did.

The biggest thing I liked is that everytime I brought my boys in, they knew their names. That was the biggest difference. I had tried one doggie daycare prior. When I went to pick up my dogs after an hour, they didn't know who my dogs...
...

Dr. Kerske has been our family's vet for a number of years. I've had experiences with other vets when I did not live in this area, and am so happy to be able to have him again as our pets' vet. I trust him explicitly with our animals care.

I don't typically post on theses types of things or even read them, but it popped up when I was searching for Dr. Kerske's phone number and was too lazy to leave the computer. I felt compelled to write in support of Dr. Kerske's wonderful care.

When our nine year-old dog (like a son to us) recently became lethargic over the course of a few weeks and began urinating inside the house, we were mystified as to what was going on. On our fist visit, Dr. Kerske did all necessary blood and urinary tests---looking for cancer, tick-borne illness, or something else. Tests revealed our son had a UTI, but also a life-threatening blood disorder. We rushed him to the animal hospital where he had a transfusion. He is now recovered to an extent, though...
...

RabbitRescuer says "The WORST bunny vet I've ever been to" about Dr. Martin Orr - Creekside Animal Hospital - Draper, UT

This guy (Martin ORR) is the WORST bunny vet I've ever experienced in 15 years of owning bunnies, fostering bunnies, and working in bunny shelters.

A couple of years ago I took in a very sick bun with chronic diahorrea and he prescribed her with metaclopramide. This is a laxative and is what's used to treat GI stasis - the bun equivalent of constipation.

He didn't have a clue what her symptoms were, let alone what could be causing them. I had to ask for an antibiotic, for a B12 shot, for hydration with lactate ringers - all the things you should do first when you have a rabbit with diahorrea. You need to treat the cause, you need to stimulate the appetite (or you then run the risk of compounding the diahorrea with stasis) and you need to rehydrate and replace lost body salts.

And his BILL!!!! - I think it was upwards of $120 for a 4 minute consult.

And the follow up - I got a call a week later from his tech. It should have been 24 hours, max. The bun was clearly chronically ill, and she...
...

At anytime I can reach Dr. Sue with any problem that I have with my furry family. I've never had this experience with any other hospital. She is very thorough and expresses my pet's problems in a way where I can understand. There is always a sucess with every visit.

Recently my daughter had to put down her 14 year old family pet. It was heartbreaking and a very rough time for the family. And with her just having a baby, it was even more tough for her! Dr. Sue and her staff were caring, compassionate and understanding during this difficult time. I knew I could count on her and that's why I referred my daughter to TLC First. Now my daughter is sold on the hospital and staff, and she will now be bringing "Puddles" in to see Dr. Sue soon as a new patient.

Do NOT take your pet to Sherman Oaks Vet Group. I have been a customer for years, but unfortunately, I have watched their service and pet care decline over the last couple of years. Individual and personalized pet care used to be their first priority. Now,....it's pocketing your money. I am completely prepared to spend as much money as necessary for the care of my pet. (And they are one of the most expensive, if not the most expensive vets in the area.) I just spent $3000.00 on tests and care. I was fully prepared for this until I learned there was a four hundred dollar test that would have answered the question that $3000 paid for. The vet had no explanation for their behavior or decision making. In addition to this, they shaved half of my cat's fur off and conducted a procedure that I did NOT approve or have knowledge of!!! Imagine my surprise, shock and horror when I learned my cat had been shaved, restrained, and worked on without my approval or knowledge. AND, then they demanded I...
...

My pets have seen Dr. Sue for years. We have followed her to numerous clinics and now she finally has a permanent home which is state of the art. She is compassionate, and thorough and a great vet overall. She is in the know with all the latest and greatest treatment techniques. She takes a personal approach with every client and gives you the time needed to ask questions. She took excellent care of one of my cats who would hiss, and growl at her. But she handled him effortlessly. She was one of the only people who would care for him. Because of Dr. Sue he lived an extra two and a half years after being diagnosed with kidney disease. She tried everything to give him the best quality of life despite how he treated her. And so now I wouldn't trust anyone else to care for my two new cats.

Front Range Vet Clinic has HORRIBLE customer service! I DO NOT recommend using this vet clinic.

The office ripped us off - they OFFERED to mail our dog's medicine without telling us the charges (3 staff, incl. vet, were present when the offer was made and none said a word about charges; I assumed max $5 to ship). We got charged $15 shipping on $9 meds - !!!! It would've been cheaper for us to drive 15 miles (one-way), which is what they were trying to save us from in the first place! The envelope showed that the office only paid $1.39 to mail the meds. When I called to complain, they didn't care at all, did nothing about it. Patty (office manager) kept talking over me, giving excuses, saying I demanded they send the meds (not true - didn't even know this was an option until the vet offered!) and complaining about the time it took her to do the mailing. I explained that there was no way for me to know they didn't have mailing capabilities as most businesses do, and it was their responsibility...
...

Tri City and Acacia Cat Animal Hospital and Veterinary Clinic in Tempe Arizona has the best staff ever. Our daughter unexpectantly headed off to college in arizona just a week before school started. Because of the late date she ended up in an apartment alone and decided to adopt a cat from the local shelter as a study buddy. The cat became very ill just a few days later and I started calling pet hospitals in the area from 5 states away. Everyone at this hospital was very kind, working so hard to find a way to get my daughter and her cat in around her crazy class schedule. Never making me feel like I was calling to often, always having new suggestions to help the cats symptoms. They took extra time at my daughters visit not only to show her how to administer all the medications but to comfort a very frightened new pet owner. They were generous enough to offer for her to stop by each day so they could give the cat her meds if it was just to much for her, and called several times each day...
...

Dr. Kester is great with all animals. We had a dog that other vets would make us muzzle her because she growled. Dr. Kester had a way with her and he never had to muzzle her. I did not go to the vet in knots knowing she was going to have to be muzzled. We had to put down two of our dogs last year and he did everything he could to assist us through the process. He made it as painless as possible for my husband and I. He also helped us prolong one of our dogs life through medication and personal care for a year. When ever I call him for a question, he always calls me back and anwers my questions without fail. If he feels I would need to bring my dogs in, he would tell me, but most of the consulting was on the phone (without charge). He really cares for the animals that come into his office and he works with the owners to assist with the care needed. He is honest and will tell you if you need to do a surgery or not. I would highly recommend him and his staff.
...

They've been many reviews, both good and bad, written about this veterinarian practice run by Dr. Linda Iburg. I'll try to give a useful and honest opinion based on my 9+ year experience with this small one-vet office.

Dr. Iburg's practice emphasizes allopathic medicine - meaning lots of drugs and surgery, with almost no natural treatments. For many years, she did an adequate job on routine procedures, but early in 2009 when my cat became very ill, I lost confidence in both her technical knowledge and in her practice's ability to provide quality service. During my cat's hospital stay for chronic renal failure, Dr. Iburg failed to properly consider the effect of I.V. fluid therapy on existing anemia. Despite a PCV reading of 21% (below 30% indicates anemia), Dr. Iburg administered a second 3-day course of I.V. fluids during which my cat's PCV dropped to 15% indicating severe anemia, necessitating a blood transfusion to save his life. Worse yet, Dr Iburg neglected to recommend an iron...
...

We have taken our puppy to Rosehill Pet Resort for the past few months. She loves all of her friends here and the staff is great and very accomidating. She has been to one play day where do got to spend time frolicking in and around the pond and romping around with her best buds. The groomer is very knowlegable and VERY good with nail cutting, they even send her home with a bandana and happy spirits.

There are many different choices of rooms like: Ranch House, where all friends get to hang out together, City Slicker allows each pup to have their own room with an excess of ouslide play gates to come in and out of at any time they please.
onwaytozion says "My cats are cared for at Cats Only Inn" about Cats Only Inn - Marilyn & Ray Daku - Hillsborough, NJ

Cats aren't generally happy travelers (mine aren't, anyway). You can just put down extra food for a long weekend away. But what do you do for a longer period of time?

We've tried other kennels for boarding, but the cats returned home a nervous wreck from the nearby barking. Cat's Only Inn has become our solution. True to their name, they only board cats. The provide roomy cages with individual litter boxes, food dishes, perches, and toys. Our two cats can stay together in a larger cage. Outside the numerous windows, there are several bird feeders at cat eye level.

We don't have to worry about losing friends if a cat runs out the door and gets lost. No chance of that here!
...

robinjhuff5 says "A wonderful veterinarian to take your dog to." about Susanne Heartsill - Downtown Animal Hospital - Memphis, TN

My name is Robin Huffman and I recently took my 4 year old Chihuahua Bambi to Dr. Heartsill for what we thought were some serious heart problems. Bambi is scared of people that she does not know and she took to Dr. Heartsill right away. She just loved Dr. Heartsill. I had to leave Bambi with them all day for testing and was a nervous wreck when I first got there knowing I had to leave her with a vet I had never been to. All of the staff there including Dr. Heartsill were absolutely wonderful and I was at complete ease when I left Bambi there and went on to work. When I got back to Dr. Heartsill's office after work to get Bambi and find out what was wrong, Dr. Heartsill had a one on one consultation with me and took the time to tell me everything. I was so impressed!! Bambi's problem was Epileptic Seizures. She did go over with me some small heart issues that weren't what caused Bambi's problem and that I need to come back once a year for another Echocardiogram to just keep an eye...
...

NatalieKramer says "PAW has many devoted people, but BEWARE of its leadership!" about Your Animal Shelter

Partnership for Animal Welfare (PAW) has lots of people deeply devoted to animal rescue. However, their rescue program has a lot of issues. There is too much politics and personality conflicts going on in the ranks, which gets in the way of helping the animals. PAW's dog adoption policies can be quite unreasonable: they can stop a DOG adoption from taking place for reasons such "the applicant's cat goes outside," or "the applicant lives too far" (there are volunteers willing to travel the distance to do the house checks, but only a handful of people are allowed to do them), or "the applicant doesn't have other dogs." I was nearly disallowed to adopt my dog for totally arbitrary reasons--that I "might" have a grandchild soon, for example--and I had to fight and appeal to other people to overrule the dog coordinator (and they did, thank god!). Because of this excessive pickiness, many potentially suitable homes are foregone in anticipation of that "perfect match" and many PAW dogs languish...
...

NatalieKramer says "This is a good place for your pets." about Patricia Peynado Boyce - A-PAW Veterinary Hospital and Welness Center - Lanham, MD

I am a fairly recent client of APAW, so I want to be cautious in my review of it, but so far I have been very pleased. I think the vets are honest and caring. I think they also take extra safety precautions. The staff all seem to be true animal lovers, not just "working there." The vets and support staff are always engaged in learning the latest in veterinary medicine through on- and off-site seminars, which inspires confidence. The hospital just added a new wing, and the new facility is clean and spacious. I have recently had a serious emergency with one of my cats, who had a complete blockage of the bladder, which is a life-threatening situation. I am very appreciative of Dr. Boyce's swift actions. She even came in after hours to check on my cat and gave me calls with updates on my his condition. Thank you! APAW is also rescue-friendly, and in my experience the staff will respond in good faith to emergencies with stray or rescued animals, which not all veterinary hospitals...
...
