It isn't fall without visiting this quaint little town. It isn't too far yet very far from the city life as you arrive in Oak Glen. There are several apple farms that you can visit and tour and of course, pick apples. My favorite is the farms that serve apple foods such as fresh caramel apples, apple pie, apple dumplings, etc.... They often also have raspberry, pear and other delights ready for the picking and buying. The little town has a cute zoo along with shops and restaurants as well as some picnic spots and hiking trails. There are also some small museums and even an old school house to explore. This is a wonderful day trip that will relax and invigorate at the same time....

With the economy as it is, you might be looking for an alternative activity for Halloween. Why not try spending the holiday in or perhaps even invite a few friends with potluck goodies for a Hallow's Eve Movie Party?

A Halloween movie night can be geared in many different directions based on whether you have young kids at home, pre-teen and teens, you and a date, or an all adult party with a plethora of trick or treat, seasonal, spooky or scary themed movies. Whether you plan on passing out candy or not, keep some fun movies in mind that will give you seasonal entertainment and put you in the Halloween mood!

Let's start with young kids. Obviously, any PG-13 and R rated films are out of the question, but that still leaves a number of Halloween themed movies in mind that the kiddies should enjoy!

First, I think I should let it be known that I am a Co-op artist at the Banning Center of the Arts!

As an artist, I'm always looking for a variety of venues on how to promote myself. When I found out that the city is trying to get the word out about their fairly new arts district, I was more than willing to support the community. In asking around, I found out that there's an Arts Alliance and a Artists Co-op. Excited to be envolved, I joined both the Art Alliance and the Co-op.

What a fun place to visit and what beautiful fine arts paintings! I recommend you stop by, if you're ever in the area! Keep a look out in our local paper, The Record Gazette, for events at the center. It's a pleasure to meet many of the artists and supporting the community. There are many art classes that the public is welcome to take!

Now, if you're an artist, the district is always looking for more members! As a co-op member, I have the fortunate opportunity of getting to know the local artists...

Every year in October, I look forward to taking my son to the traditional season apple harvesting festival up the mountains of Yucaipa, CA off of Oak Glen Road for apple picking. With a plethora of orchards, shops, local fun to chose from, I have a hard time figuring out what I want to take my son to see first. The shops carry local arts and crafts, pies, cobblers cakes, apple butter, honey and much more! The festival is all month long in October, starting the last weekend of September, but you can visit the shops and restaurants any time during the year. I love to go up after fresh falling snow to let my son make a snowman and throw snowballs, stunningly beautiful!

Stop by the Oak Tree Village for the festival, the seasonal events, entertainment, pan for gold, pony rides and visit the petting zoo and fish in their trout ponds; all supplies are provided old school style! NO CATCH AND RELEASE! YOU CATCH, YOU BUY (pay buy size)! Ride the small train and the local arts and crafts...

I've been visiting the Cameron Park Zoo for at least the past 12 years. My kids love to go walk around, and we all really enjoy the animals. We try to avoid it on warm days because it feels 10 degrees warmer when you're inside the zoo. The animal habitats are great, because you can get so close to the animals. We've had great fun there, and plan to go back many more times.
The only problem I've had with the zoo is customer service. I tried to book a birthday party once, and the woman in charge of that was quite rude. Needless to say, we haven't had any parties there. Anytime I've had to deal with anyone other than the ticket booth or gift shop people, I've been disappointed with their basic customer service skills.

This place is the best kids place if thier any age between 9 and 40 years old ;-). The staff are all so nice and just completly there to make it fun and educational for all of the customers. My Mom wanted to treat us to a day at the Lazy 5 Ranch in the summer of 2008. The Lazy 5 Ranch is a privately owned farm for exotic animals. They have a playground, areas where you can walk around and see animals and also a drive-through portion where you can ride a horse-drawn carriage or feed and see animals from your own vehicle.

The Lazy 5 Ranch is very unassuming from the road. You can see a few animals through a high fence from the road, but one would never guess that the ranch houses over 750 animals from six continents.

Admission costs in September 2008 are (check website above for current prices and directions):
Adults $8.50
Children (2-11) and Senior Adults $5.50
Children under 2 are FREE
Groups of 15 or more are $5.00/person
Hours of operation are:
Monday-Saturday 9:00 a.m. until one hour before sunset
Sunday 1:00 p.m. until one hour before sunset

I would highly recommend getting to the ranch by early afternoon so that you have plenty of time to see everything. I would also recommend...

Orlys treehouse is a wonderful place where parents can drop children off in a supervised playground while they sit in the cafe and have a cup of coffee and chat, or go to the exercise room. There is a variety of classes for children to take for an extra fee, but well worth the money. My children have been going there for a year now and beg me daily to go back to the "treehouse". They will make new friends and the staff will all know you name with in a week....

The New Zoo is a great place to take the day and worry less about the daily stresses in your life! We make the short trip quite a few times a year. It never gets old seeing all of the animals. Our favorite to sit and watch are for sure the otters. It's also fun to feed the Coy and goats. When my parents come down from Michigan, they always make time to go to the New Zoo with us. We just spend the day walking around and taking pictures of the different exhibits. This is also an affordable place for couples and families on a budget. I'd rather spend the day at the New Zoo than a night in a bar any time!...

Since the old owners have bought this place back in May. I have taken my son 20 times. It only cost $6 per child, or a monthly pass for $19.99. It has an inside playground, arcade area and even a toddler play area. They have a small concession stand that is very affordable food. The are also updating the play area with new stuff. The people who own it and the emplyee's are all very nice....

The atmostmosphere is authentically Asian, right down to the songbooks, which are mostly in Japanese. The backing tracks to the songs are of the cheesy, synthesizer-heavy variety, which would be a problem, if not for the fact that the cheese adds to the overall vibe of the place. The accompanying videos are also pretty durn cheesy, as pretty young Japanese girls act out campy, completely unrelated scenarios....

Located in the Fountain Walk in Novi Michigan, I went to Lucky Strike Lanes for my bachelorette party last year. My husband and I have been meaning to go many times but finally decided to go again this past weekend since the place is so fun. It's like a playground for adults.

What is Lucky Strike Lanes?
It sounds like a bowling alley, but we didn't even bowl there because the bowling area was closed for a private event. There is much more to this place even without the bowling, but I would like to check it out one time. The main pull for me is the adult sized arcade. You can play skee ball, trivia, air hockey and many other fun games. When you enter you put as much money on a card as you want. That card is then used to play all the games. I love this place because it really has an adult focus so you don't feel weird playing the games. I asked my sister, who has lived in Alexandria, Virginia, to take me on a trip to the past. I wanted her to find the officer’s housing from the old Navy Gun Factory. All she could show me was the Torpedo Factory, and that didn’t support personal memories, but started all new ones.

This Torpedo Factory was established at the close of WWI in 1918. It served our country until it was sold to the city in 1969, and on September 15, 1974, after extensive renovation, it opened its doors to the public as the Torpedo Factory Art Center.

Within are three floors of old military structure cubicled into little shops and artistic display of all kinds representing 165 visual artists. We wandered among stained glass, fiber, sculpture, photography, ceramics, Asian influence, African influence and more.

This is another Indian casino just outside the Oklahoma City metro area. It is about 20 miles out Interstate 40, at exit 178. Unlike other Indian casinos which allow 18-20 year olds, the minium age at FireLake is 21; I'm not really sure why, though.

The casino was recently remodeled and looks very nice. For dining there is a buffet, steak house, sports bar and cafe. The is a large theartre housing concerts and events featuring artists such as Three Dog Night, Vickie Laurence, George Carlin and Wayne Newton to name a few.

There is also gaming with over 1800 of the newest slot machines and tables for poker, blackjack, craps and spinette on two floors. Drinks are available for a fee, with soft drinks and tea free, as well as soft serve ice cream. And in Oklahoma a percentage of the gaming revenue goes to support education.

There's not much more that can be said about this great little place! If you want to know where the kids are just give them $10 or $20 and go shopping for a couple of hours. They can interact with kids their own age and the owners here are parents themselves, and safety conscious. Highly recommended!...

Riverwind is an Indian casino located in Norman OK. It is fairly new, only open a little over a year. It has over 2200 electronic games and 55 card tables and an off track betting parlor. There is also dining options from fancy restaurants to fast food. There is a 1500 seat theater which features Vegas style entertainers.

Because it is an Indian casino gambling is legal at 18. My first visit was to take my 18 year after her birthday. We went on ladies night (every Monday). The casino gives $10.00 to each lady for slot play. I was hooked. My daughters, friends and I have ladies night each Monday. Some nights we leave having only gambled away our $10.00, other times we leave with a few bucks in our pockets.
