Several years ago Regions bank bought out my old bank, Union Planters. Before that they bought out some one else...etc., etc. I can't remember who the original bank was! In these times of fiscal irresponsibility, Regions seems to be keeping their head above water.

To "oobrow" from Mobile, AL. that complained about checks taking a long time to clear; it's called "Fiscal Responsibility." And yes, if you're driver's license is expired, are you responsible enough to keep track of your own money? Boo-Hoo.

I receive but one check a month from the VA. It has to last. Regions has not only free on-line banking, but free on-line bill paying. They are not the same thing. Under the old bank name, they charged for on-line bill paying. Now I save a bunch on stamps. I pay literally all my bills on-line, with the exception of rent. My landlord wants a REAL paper check for some reason.

Regions has ATM's all over town. And, of course, the Regions Visa check card is accepted everywhere. ...
...

This is in response to the treatment I have received at IBC. This is only one instance of bad customer relations. This is the time that has "broke the camel's back" so to speak.

I have done a cut and paste below to show you what your policy in writing is online. The statement below is in reference to trying to do a stop pay for an ACH transaction. In writing it says I have to go to an IBC location.

IBC's reality is different though: I called, made arrangements to come in at lunch, sign papers to do a stop pay. I called back within 30 minutes to say I was not coming in; I did not need the stop pay, I was going to deposit money to cover my duplicate ACH car payment, which I had done in error. My new car was financed at a different bank as I had tried for 8 months to get financing from IBC but was continually turned down.

Now you are saying I owe for the stop pay. You faxed me a stop pay cancel authorizations to sign saying you needed it to reduce IBC liability. ...
...

leapleapfrog says "Really Great." about HSBC - Chicago, IL

Here is the best option for banking if you like to travel, and have a lot of different countries to visit. I reviewed banks to see which offers the most banks in coutries outside of the USA, and found HSBC to be one of the best, with a whole spectrum of currencies that the user can withdraw without getting charged a large ATM fee. There are 2-3 % differences in the exchange rate, but that is what most money exchangers will give you on cash too. It comes highly recommended, and I would like to pass this recommendation on. Truly the world's local bank....

I would not recommend anyone having an account with ING DIRECT for they are the worst in customer service and say your money will grow by having an orange savings accout. The orange savings account was the first that I had with them and later added the electric orange which was their idea of a paperless checking account. The fact that I had one account with them not to mention another one was just a bad a idea from the beginning. I wished I had never opened an account with ING DIRECT. I now have what is called the investor checking with Charles Schwab which allows you to earn interest on your money just as ING DIRECT does but with far better customer service so what I am writing about here is the poor customer service that you will receive from ING DIRECT because they do not know how the banking industry works and should just stick to MARKETING which is what you mostly see anyhow with all their ads. THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVES ARE RUDE AND NOT AT ALL POLITE SO DO NOT OPEN AN......

Banking has come a long way since the days when financial transactions were conducted entirely one- on- one with a bank teller or loan officer. These traditional banks, of course, still exist but many consumers now opt to conduct banking via the internet. Most all major banks have an online presence, but there are also a few banks that conduct business exclusively online. One bank that is very non- traditional and continues to grow in popularity is ING Direct, an online banking institution.

Bank Commentary:

ING Direct is a bank I have grown to know and respect over the years. I have known about ING Direct bank for a long time because of its online ads, but for the longest time, I dismissed these ads and usually didn't even bother reading the offers. I assumed my present brick and mortar bank was sufficient because it gave me the products and service I wanted and I hadn't experienced any real problems in the years since I opened my account. I didn't see any good reason to open an ING...
...

I am a live pay check to pay check kind of guy. Unfortunately this bank makes that very difficult. When i deposit a check it takes 5-7 days average to clear the check before i can even touch it. However if you write a check they love to take it out immediatly. I have deposited checks in on friday and paid bills with checks on monday and had them bounce because my paycheck was not cleared. i get charge 27 dollars for each check that comes in before they decide to clear my check. I may have the money in there to cover the checks but they will still bounce them to get the fees. The only positive thing about this bank is 7 day a week banking and they stay open late....

To the contrary of the glowing praise issued by TheBard, I found this bank to be difficult, no strike that, impossible to call in Chicago in order to reach anyone to answer a question about a draft I received from London, drawn against a commercial account. This was after I called the customer service (800) 975-4722 number, reached a representative who took my information, called a "local" branch somewhere in Illinois, at a location I had never heard of, just to be told that "they were unable to entertain my requirements at that location", that they didn't have the resources to cash a check, and I should go elsewhere! This was relayed through the rep, not directly by the branch since I was denied the opportunity to speak directly with the branch.

I then called directory assistance, was given the 71 S. Wacker, Chicago IL number(which the rep had no knowledge of....) at (312) 357-3900, and reached a recording. This turned out to be another dead end. I wasn't permitted (electronically)...
...

Rockland Federal Credit Union is a 21st century financial institution offering 1950s customer service. They provide all the services that the big banks do, but they always know who I am when I walk in the bank, and are ready to courteously assist me - and I'm not even one of their big depositors. And on top of that, I don't have to maintain a minimum balance in my trulyfree checking account.

At the beginning of June 2008, I decided to apply for a private student loan through Chase to help cover my tuition and college-related expenses. It is now July 22nd, 2008 and I am still waiting to receive the funds from my loan.

After submitting my application online, I received immediate notification that I was conditionally credit approved, pending the receipt of the required documents (i.e. promissory note, copy of driver's license, and proof of residence.)

I just called Chase, and after waiting for 15 minutes, I finally got a representative on the phone who then took nearly 5 minutes to get me transferred to a supervisor. I calmly explained that I was concerned about the fact that I have not yet received my student loan check, and that I was really concerned about the timeliness, or lack thereof, surrounding the entire application process.

I explained the difficulty that I had with getting my address approved which significantly extended the amount of time it took for processing.
Our first Visa card came from Citibank, way back when we were first married and in the succeeding 25 years, we have been through all variants from gold to platinum to diamond preferred....the one constant is top notch customer service. And they really do show concern about my credit history and my personal identity-long before it became a buzzword of modern culture. A large, unusual expediture for our family was followed almost immediately by a phone call checking to insure that it was, in fact, our charge. When we made inquiry about interest rates being offered by other credit card companies soliciting us for our business, they adjusted our rate accordingly. Since starting with them, we have also had our primary mortgage sold to them as part of the CitiGroup, and the same excellence of service has always applied. I like the fact that they have options. Reward programs are available (I choose not to participate, but that is my personal preference) I have been able to get......

I manage a wholesale company, I had two different bank accounts, with two different banks. I called into US Bank to get a current balance on that account because I needed to temporarily transfer the majority of it to our other account, and then I confirmed with my accountant about minimum balance requirements etc... and thought I had made a safe transfer. A month later I received my statement (no other notices or calls in between), and discovered that they had charged me DAILY for a $30 overdraw, totaling over $240! I don't live where we are headquartered, so by the time I had called in to try and resolve it, it had risen to about $310! Not only that, but they had closed the account and sent it to collections too. So I asked our accountant to reason with them because he deals with them regularly. They reopened the account so he could deal with it, and were "gracious" enough to knock a mere $100 from the gaping hole. But when I went to pay it off, I was told it had increased by another......
