CyndiA says "Classic flatware with a lifetime warranty - very pretty " about Oneida Paul Revere Flatware

I picked Paul Revere flatware by Oneida back in my 20s, and I'm glad I did. The flatware pattern is timeless, and I've never regretted my pick. Granny wanted me to pick a silver pattern, but I knew, even back then, that I had no interest in polishing silver. The brushed stainless with nickel requires no polishing or special care. It's even dishwasher safe.

The pattern is very plain but with a nice balance and eye pleasing finish. When I mentioned that I like my pattern, my son said, "Well, I don't think it has a pattern." I did get a laugh on that.

Good stainless is expensive. I think these run $20 and up per piece but priced better in sets and also when on sale. I just added a 4 piece full set to round out, since I only had 4 full sets. Now I have enough to use when we have company. I'd been meaning to do that for years and finally did.

If you want a classic look in nice stainless steel for your flatware, give Paul Revere a look. Tastes vary, of course, but these pieces don't go out...
...

I just wanted to take a moment and say that if you are out shopping for new flatware, take a look at Oneida. They have such a vast variety of flatware and equally vast price range. But even though they make basic everyday and highend items, their quality is all the same. I purchase their midgrade items, due to my having kids and at times.... Well.. you know how kids are, sometimes they are going to use your spoons to dig up the yard. And if you do not want to go find a bunch of bent up ruined flatware then Oneida has the set for you. Just be sure it is 18/10 stainless steel. The weight of the forks, spoons or even knives in your hands feel great, they are well balanced and strong. You can take a spoon, dig deep into a gallon of ice cream and come out with a scoop of icecream, not a bent over spoon. When you are out looking, do not be afraid to go check out the Oneida section of your favorite store. You will be surprised to see they are in your price range, whatever that...
...

This is a 8 setting set of Oneida Flatware silverware to use for everyday or for special ocassions if needed to be. The flatware is not real fancy and ritzy but nicely decorated for everyday use or company. Which will help make your table look so nice. Give it a touch of class. There are different patterns to fit hopefully anyones taste for design. Oneida Flatware is not an expensive product, with and average price to fit alot of people budget. There is a guarentee with the Oneida Flatware product which is a great asset to the product. I am please with my product and the best advice it to go to local stores around the area and look at Oneida Flatware and make a decission for yourself. Look at the different size groups and designs. This would also make a great gift for weddings, holidays etc. Make you meal complete with Oneida Flatware to your table and have a wonderful meal to use them for.
...

Cambridge Silversmiths Crossroads Sand 45-piece flatware set with caddy is a must have! I have big drawers in my kitchen and I was tired of buying all those sets w/ 20 pieces and having a fork here or knife there disappear and having to replace it after only a few months then i'd find the missing piece in the back of the flatware drawer. well with this set it's all kept in place. Instead of paying over $100 this set was only about $64 with taxes. Not bad at all for 45 pieces to serve 8 people. This set looks nice, is made of high quality stainless steel so even though it's inexpensive it holds up nicely and will last. The caddy is a bit awkward but other then that it's worth it. I've even used it in my dishwasher and it's held up nicely. Previous sets I've used would come out tingy after only a few trips to the dishwasher. This would make a perfect housewarming set, engagement or wedding gift as well. It's perfect for one's self as well and I found it at BB&B.
...

swgoddess01 says "Beautiful and classic, but a bit heavy" about Lenox Eternal

We received a Lenox Eternal flatware set for our wedding almost 7 years ago from relatives in Germany, including serving spoons and forks. I really like the whole set. It is elegant, durable, classic, and beautiful. I washed the flatware by hand and in the dishwasher over the years, and the appearance of the flatware has not changed at all. It is still shiny, smooth, and flaw-free. My kids have used the spoons to bang on pots, and there are no dings or dents in any of the spoons. Honestly, my only complaint is that they are a little heavy on the end, especially the knives. I really like the elegant look of the flatware and serving spoons/forks. We set the Lenox out when we have company, and use our other every day set for ourselves. But we also will mix the Lenox in with our every day set and use it when we dine alone as a family. I am very impressed that the flatware has lasted almost 7 years without any warps, dings, dents, or dullness. I really like the simple yet elegant design on the......

fixin says "Solid flatware but tarnishes very easily" about Gourmet Settings Non Stop 20-piece Flatware Set

My wife and I bought a 4-setting set of this flatware and were running low so decided to purchase a second identical set a few weeks later.

After a few weeks, we started to notice black spots and lines on some of the spoons and forks. Weeks later, entire heads of spoons had turned black. We couldn't find any way to get rid of this tarnish so ended up throwing away about 5-6 spoons and 3-4 forks (knives seemed to be unaffected). While a year later none of the other flatware pieces have turned, this was a disappointing aspect of this product. My guess is that there were some quality control issues with the manufacture, though we never contacted them to report it.

Other than the tarnishing, this flatware set is good looking and sturdy enough for daily use and abuse.
...

darlyn63 says "Received as a wedding pres. Use it everyday. We've had it 27 yrs" about Oneida Oneida Arbor Rose

I will say when we first got married, the Oneida Arbor Rose Flatware was used a couple of years for special occassions. But all the other flatware would start to rust. So I said the heck with that and we have been using it everyday. Does come with a 25 year warranty, well it sure stands up to that. (although a few spoons are missing.....Kids!!)

I heard from one of our Mom's friend, "Why have something and not use it". How true. We have enjoyed, been very pleased with this set, like I said missing pieces! Kids, can't live with them, can't live without them. Somehow they got lost mainly the small spoons. I'm guessing when they cleaned their rooms. They cleaned them alright, with some of my stuff. UGH!

Oneida Arbor Rose 18/10 Flatware has really stood up to the test of time. Have not had to buy another set since our experiences when we were first got married. The 25 year warranty really means just that, it's over that time table and still no rust. I'm a happy camper ;~)
...

I recently purchased Gormet Basics by Mikasa Chloe 45 piece set of flatware. (Originally I had bought service for 8 at a local discount store and was unable to find the Hostess pieces, so I decided to hunt down the missing pieces on the internet and found the entire set at Overstock.com). This set includes, service for eight, a table spoon, a slotted table spoon, a meat fork, a butter knife and a sugar spoon. It is a polished stainless steal that is sparkling and quite beautiful. One of my favorite aspects of this flatware is the "minimalist" approach to design that was taken. I am a big fan of, less is more, and with these pieces it is executed perfectly with a "dipped" look just at the base of the flatware, (by dipped I mean it is similar to how the top of a good piece of chocolate looks, that small raised tip where the excess chocolate lay after it was dipped) and with its perfect polish, nothing more is needed. Clean and classy it is beautiful enough for a dinner party but practical...
...

I received a 65 piece set of Danforth stainless flatware by Oneida for Christmas last year. Written on the box was the phrase, "Dishwasher Safe." Well . . . after just two times in the dishwasher this flatware rusted like crazy! I returned over half the set to Oneida since their pieces are guaranteed for 25 years. It took MONTHS for me to finally get a replacement set. I had to change patterns and send the rest of the Danforth set back. Both of the return shipments were at MY EXPENSE even though it was their product that was defective and not a problem I had caused. It cost me approximately $25 in shipping since flatware is very heavy. My replacement pattern is called American Harmony or maybe it's just Harmony. So far, so good. Even though my replacement set is doing okay, I would not recommend Oneida. If you get a defective product, the cost of replacement is YOUR cost when it should be the company's....

Not an entertainer, it didn't matter to me if my flatware was all from the same set. I had a mixed set - some from my mother, some from my husband's household when we got married, and probably even some from rummage sales. It didn't matter to me. But I'm getting older and becoming an adult and I realized that the kitschy set wasn't cutting it anymore. I needed "grown up" flatware.

I began by researching "flatware" on the common review/evaluation/opinion sites on the internet and found very little to guide me. I found only two review and oddly enough they were for the same set of flatware. One told me it was great, the other told me it was awful! What a conundrum. So I set out, blindly, basing my opinion on looks, price and bendablity. If I was able to bend a spoon easily, it was out of the running.

Here's a tip - Never buy anything from Kohl's department stores unless it's on sale. If it's not on sale wait a week or two and watch the advertising - trust me, everything in that store...
...

When I was registering for wedding gifts, my flatware pattern was absolutely the last of my concerns. I think I spent about 5 minutes choosing this style. Luckily, as it turns out, I am completely thrilled that I landed on this one. It is classy enough to go well with my good china but still normal enough to match my everyday dishes.

It is made out of 18/10 stainless steel, and is a very good weight. As expected, it is dishwasher safe. Lenox also makes matching serving utensils in this pattern that come in a variety of hostess/entertainment sets.

The 5pc place setting (knife, dinner fork, salad fork, teaspoon, spoon) is regularly priced at $90 at Macy's but is on sale about half of the time.

I would also recommend getting the 3 pc hostess set (meat fork, butter knife, tablespoon) which is priced at $95. I have two of these and use them all the time. Also, the 7 pc entertainment set (sugar spoon, 2 tablespoons, pierced tablespoon, gravy ladle, meat fork, butter knife) is a...
...

Shopping for Silver
When I was shopping for silver, I was eager to get a classic design with a little twist. I picked a china pattern from a French designer that was unique yet classic. It has a thick platinum band engraved with a simplistic yet intricate pattern. When searching for silver, I didnt want to get a pattern that competed with the china, but rather accented its uniqueness.

I looked at countless silver patterns available and finally fell in love with Christofle Spatours. Similar to my china, I liked that the design was classic yet unique. And, the European size (much larger spoon and slightly larger others) were a perfect standout to my china pattern.

Christofle- The Downside
The downside to the silver is that it is really expensive. I am a believer in passing down china/silver in the family, so knowing that it would be for my daughter some day made it easier to swallow. The stainless is about $300/per setting.
