I was fortunate enough to be invited to eat someone ELSE's turkey on Thanksgiving but yesterday what went around came around and it was my turn to cook. This year I tried my best to be organized, to avoid last-minute desperation runs to the store, misplaced items, etc. As part of this campaign to Be Prepared (as the Boy Scouts would say), I had made absolutely positively sure that I was equipped with a turkey baster -- the Hoan Ten Inch Poly Turkey Baster to be exact, which had cost $1.49 at Peapod. There I was in the morning with a 14 lb. turkey which nearly filled the roasting pan which was almost impossible to pick up (God gives us strength we don't know we have for occasions like this!) and only then did I realize that the Hoan Ten Inch Poly Turkey Baster didn't work.

You may be familiar with this type of device which consists of a plastic sheath topped with a rubber bulb. One squeezes the bulb, forcing air out of the bulb and the sheath, then plunges the other end of the...
...

PattyTherre says "A very limited can opener that is really just a novelty" about As Seen on TV Onetouch Automatic Can Opener 29101

Quick View: The As Seen on TV Onetouch Automatic Can Opener 29101 is a battery operated can opener that actually opens cans by itself, shuts off by itself, and supposedly lifts can lips up and out of the cans with ease. I found it works on normal sized cans but not on smaller or larger ones very well. It's noisy and slow too.

My Take on the As Seen on TV Onetouch Automatic Can Opener 29101

I bought this gadget when I saw it on a deal a day site for around $11.00 shipped. The hype was that it opened all cans with just a touch of a button, lifted the lids up with its magnet, and took no space on the counter. I liked all that but it turns out that the claims were inflated.

This hand held unit does latch onto normal (vegetables, dog food, fruit) cans and it "walks" itself around the lid. It does seem to lift those lids up with its magnet and the lids nor the can edges are sharp. The unit is noisy and slow though and has a 20 second cycle no matter what the size of the can.

When I use it on...
...

Quick View: I am no domestic diva but I love food that is HOT, not warm. recently, I was given a Micro Hot Plate Thermal-Insulating Stone Plate and didn't even know what it was. I found out that it is a very effective hot plate that keeps food hot much longer than simply setting the bowl on a regular hot plate. It doesn't burn fingers either!

My Take on the Micro Hot Plate Thermal-Insulating Stone Plate

This hot plate is 6"x6", a bit small for my taste but will hold a casserole dish or large bowl just fine. It has a smooth marble surface and two handles to carry the plate. To use, you just warm it in the microwave for up to four minutes. The smooth top will be very hot but the handles remain cool.

The bottom also stays cool so there is no worry of burning the table or other surfaces. The plate keeps foods hot for at least a couple of hours. We used the Micro Hot Plate Thermal-Insulating Stone Plate to set a casserole on and it stayed incredibly hot for a long time. We all like hot foods...
...

I received several Le Creuset skillets and bakeware for my bridal shower and wedding this year. I was so exciting to receive them because I heard they were of a high quality (and very expensive) brand. After 1 month of using them, they have terrible scratches and chips in the paint on the bottom and sides, especially of the skillet. I am so angry that the people who cared for me spent so much money on Le Creuset cookware when they are obviously not the high quality pieces we thought they were. Now I'm stuck with a set of expensive cookware that I don't want!
...

I wanted a Cuisinart anodized cookware set for many years. My T-Fal teflon set was starting to chip and I decided to search the internet for a new anodized cookware set. I chose amazon.com because they had a variety of sets for the most discounted prices. Cuisinart just wasn't in my budget. I searched for hours on end reading countless reviews and settled on a 10 peice cookware set by Wearever. What really impressed me to buy this set is that America's Test Kitchen reviewed one of their skillets and said that it was a great skillet for the price. I bought this set for under $50.00 which was a steal. It usually runs well over $100.00. When I received the set, I was impressed with the quality. The pots and pans are quite thick and they are contructed quite well. I believe this set will last me for many years to come. I have found that food actually tastes better when cooked in this set. My first dish that I made was potatoes, onions, and garlic which I sauted for...
...

puglover123 says "best cookie sheets ever" about Pampered Chef Cookie Sheet Sets

I recently had a Pampered Chef book party and as a result of my sales from the party I was able to choose several frees items and some at discounted prices. I selected the Pampered Chef aluminum cookie sheets as one of my free items. I have purchased other Pampered Chef merchandise in the past and I have always been impressed with the quality of their products. These particular cookie sheets were a fairly new product and I purchased these because my old cookie sheets were turning that "very over used black or brown" color. My family has small children and we bake cookies very frequently. We have used these cookie sheets numerous times and they still look like brand new cookie sheets. When you bake the cookies, the heat is distributed evenly and the cookies bake evenly. I do have a friendly suggestion though, do not use anything metal to remove your cookies as it will scrape the surface of the cookie sheets. Definitely worth it!!
...

czigler says "One of the best for baking breads, cookies, and pizzas. " about Pampered Chef Stoneware

I love the Pampered Chef Stoneware collection. They are great for cooking pizzas, rolls, cookies, biscuits, any really fatty bread. I do not recommend them for cooking meats, as, after a while, they will get a little funky and hard to clean. We have a circle stoneware pizza pan, and its great. We use to have two, but while making a frozen pizza one day, we set the pizza on the stoneware while the oven was preheating. When the oven got ready, we slid the pan in there, and in about 2 minutes heard a loud cracking sound. I looked in the oven and sure enough, the pan had cracked into 3 pieces. So you have to be careful with sudden changes in temperature with these pans. And you can't wash them with soap, because it will absorb into the stoneware. Other than that, they are good for certain things, and not for others. I like having the one pizza stone, but I don't think I would invest in the whole set of stoneware. Still, a great product from a great company.
...

I love cooking with cast iron. Lodge is a great brand, and has consistantly put out quality products over the lifetime of the company. The Lodge cast iron pans are heavy (a quality associate with good cast iron), some of them come pre-seasoned, they can cook almost anything. They pans are great for baking, cooking on the stove, or even over an open fire (whether in the fireplace or an outside fire). The pans conduct heat very well, they stay warm even after removal from heat, so your food will stay warmer longer. The only thing is that you have to clean them right after you use them, do not store food in them. But they are easy to clean, just empty your food out, and clean with water and a rag while pan is still warm. If the pan has gotten cold, you can use salt to get the crusted stuff off. They also make interesting wall art in the kitchen when not in use for cooking. Lodge cast iron pans are a must have for every kitchen, worth every penny, and will last long enough to hand down to your...
...

The Farberware Classic Series was something I looked for for a couple months. The 10 piece set has 4 pots, 3 frying pans and 3 lids. The pots are stainless steel while the frying pans are non-stick. The lids are glass with black plastic handles. This set was perfect for me since I am just starting out. The best thing is that I know this set will hold up a long time. My Mom has had her Farberware set for over 25 years and it is still in great condition! I believe that this is a must buy for everyone but specifically for those who are just moving into their own place or just getting married like I was. I had a lot of mix and match pieces and it was so nice to have a set that all matched! I will say the main reason why I went with stainless steel pots was because of the new information about non-stick finishes being harmful for women who are pregnant or will be trying to get pregnant. Make sure if you are in either category that you look up the research on that before making a purchase....
...

I recently had yet another battle between a stubborn wine cork and cork screw , and vowed to buy one of the rabbit eared wine opener/corkscrews that every one seems to be talking about these days. So off I went to my local Bed, Bath, and Beyond store to purchse one. Imagine my shock when I saw a set for $60.00! As I was quickly changing my mind about this purchase one of the store associates pointed me in the direction of their seasonal items, and there was their house brand set for only a tiny little $9.99. With one of their 20% off coupons, I found the price more than attractive. This stainless steel set includes the corkscrew, a foil cutter, a stainless steel stopper to keep wine fresh, a stand, and an extra corkscrew replacement. I brought it home and tried it out, and it is awesome. You can open even the most stubborn bottle with ease. I can't really explain how it works, just trust me and pick one up today to complete your bar set up.
...

I have the 12" baking stone, by Pampered Chef, and yes it's a little more expensive to buy but you pay for quality. It heats up evenly and not only makes a wonderful pizza pan but also, makes wonderful cookies. They don't burn around the edges and don't burn on the bottom. The only thing that I don't like about the baking stone is that you can't get soap on them, they have to be cleaned in plain water. I had a Pampered Chef lasagna pan and loaned it out to a friend and found out that she soaked in the sink with dish soap over night and it always had a funny taste in it from that day on. But, I think that it is one of the best products that there is around, I had the bigger baking stone but, this should tell you some thing, my ex-husband got that baking stone in the divorce settlement. Pampered Chef should just keep up the good work!

daniellels says "Cutting is a pleasure with sharp knives" about Ginsu International Traditions 6-Piece Bakelite Steak Set

Suddenly, I feel like cooking again. Chopping onions, dicing carrots, making perfect juliennes with red peppers and mincing the garlic fine for my famous (!) vegetable medley is...effortless. All because of these knives. Ooh they are sharp! So be careful or you may end cutting yourself!

I love the fact that the knives are sharp right out the box. Many people swear by their forged knife blades but that makes the knives heavier. I have another set from Pinzon (Amazon's brand) and yet another from Cuisinart that I barely use as they are heavier and not as sharp as these knives. I think stamped blades are great as they are lighter and thinner like these Ginsu knives. If you cut vegetables more than meat then you need knives like these. For meat you need heavier blades with more balance and "brute force". For slicing a tomato so fine that you can see through it you need a Ginsu. With a Ginsu in your hand you'll end up sculpting roses from your radishes!

Over the years I have seen many All-Clad advertisements, yet I held ff buying any of their items because they were well out of my price range. Last year I finally broke down and purchased an All-Clad cookie sheet, and was extremely glad I did. I fell in love with my All-Clad cookie sheet the very first time I used it. You can tell that All-Clad is superior in quality over all other brands the minute you put it in your hands. All-Clad is a lot more expensive than most other brands, but is definitly worth the extra money. I have been slowly replacing all my cook-ware and bake-ware with All-Clad because no other brand comes close to their standard of cook-ware. I haved use countless varieties of cookware in the past and I have spent way too much money for most of them. For the longest time , I was the kind of person who thought the more expensive cookware always supposed to be the best, until I gave T-fal a try for the first time. I fell in love with this cook-ware the first time I used it. I couldn't believe how well made this cook-ware is. My favorite feature about my T-fal pots and pans is the heavy aluminium bottoms. It enables all my foods to cook evenly. It's hard for me to believe that I purchased an entire set ot T-fal cook-ware for less money than I have spent on a single pan from another company. I would recomend T-fal cook-ware to anyone who loves to cook as much as I do. I'm a firm believer now, you don't have to pay a lot of money for great quality.
...

Your know in the biblical days there was only ceramic dishes and they were made so frequently. I love to be able to look at my food frequently and to be able see it cook. It is so pretty when you make good dishes. I also love the way things turn out the food I mean. As a good churchgoer in my heart we must examine the way the God enjoys our cooking with counsel. He states fruit and vegetables. I pray one day I can please him with the way I am with the God. I try to stick to fruit and vegetables but this month I went crazy in feeding the dog and the dog got alot to eat. Well, I did not have my bakeware of the corningware. Please pray for my baby, it is being killed. I want it to look at the corningware someday. I pray for my kids tohave corningware of the bakeware of the God. I tell you we do have to watch how we cook. Amen.
...

pp2a says "clean and soft" about Snuggle Fabric Softener Snuggle Exhilaration 3x Concentrate

I have a GE high efficiency washer and dryer with a feature called "SmartDispense". The laundry detergent and fabric softener get added to the wash automatically while the washer is running -- I don't have to do a thing. This fabric softener says it's concentrated, and some other reviewers have said they prefer to use more, so with my machine, it works out perfectly. All I do is program the SmartDispense feature to use a "normal" amount of softener and the softness and frgrance come out exactly right.

Did I mention the scent is wonderful? It stays in the clothing really well, so much so that when I pick up my 18-month-old, I can smell it. FINALLY! A softener with some staying power! I've used Downy "Midnight Expressions", which smells great in the bottle, but once the clothing is stored the smell completely disappears. This scent is lovely, not too loud, and truly makes you happier to get dressed. (Imagine the commercial where the consumer is smelling their clothing and smiling... yeah...)...
...

Dahlhouse says "Love the large size and so easy to clean!!!" about Martha Stewart Large Stainless Steel cookie sheets

Although Martha Stewart cookie sheets may be pricey, they are well worth the investments. You can get more baking accomplished in a small amount of time because of their large size. The stainless steel finish makes it easy to clean because it is no big deal to use a good scrubber on them. Plus, their finish really keeps things from sticking too bad even when burnt. They are thin and easier to store.

The only challeng to these cookie sheets may be having a cabiniet or storage area large enough for storing.

They are also wonderful for making large sheet pizzas for a big crowd. They stay nice looking use after use.
...

shiftnchick says "My Cakes slide right out of these pans, I love it!" about Calphalon 13x9 non-stick cake pan

The Calphalon cake pans in general are absolutely amazing. I am making cakes constantly, and to be able to easily remove the cakes that I make from the pan to the cooling rack is a huge thing, to be able to do that without the cake breaking or falling apart on me is very important. These cake pans make my cake making 100% easier. A huge added bonus is that they basically rinse right off and almost nothing gets "caked" on them. They are dishwasher safe which helps me to have less of a cleanup time, which is also extremely helpful. I would recommend these cake pans, and this brand in general for anyone's baking/cooking needs, they are sure to be worth the money. I have used mine over 100 times and they look like brand new still, no discoloration or scratches or anything. I hope that my kids can enjoy baking as much as I do, because I would love to be able to pass these pans on down to my children.
...
