mrssnell says "Big Time Saver!" about Norpro Apple Machine

Every Autumn, people around here are harvesting and canning apples. I freeze mine and make applesauce to bake with, and this machine saves me more time than any other kitchen "gadget" I own.

Norpro Apple Machine cores, peels and even slices. Easy to use and easy clean-up. You can't ask much more than that with the daunting task "putting up" apples can be.

You won't be disappointed if you buy one!
...

I registered for 3 sets of these Magnetic Spice Racks from Bed Bath and Beyond for my wedding shower. We didn't have a lot of counter space so the magnetic idea seemed like a great option! So far these are working out perfectly.

The set comes with one magnetic strip and 6 magnetic jars. The jars each have a spot on the strip. As you can see from my picture, I put 3 strips of jars together and you could put as many as you wanted or needed.

Each metal jar has a clear lid which has a rectangular hole in it. You can turn the lid to line up with the small holes or the rectangular spot on the actual jar to pour as needed. I usually just take the lid off when I need spices. That's my only real problem with these is that some of the lids are hard to remove or turn. I think this is something that gets better with time though as many of them turn and open easily.

The tightness of the lid does make me feel good though about the containers being air tight. I can tell no air is...
...

FYN says "Great for cooks and non-cooks" about Cuisinart Fondue - Electric Fondue Pot

I absolutely love this fondue pot. I used to have a traditional pot with a sterno that was not only EXTREMELY heavy, but it wasn't convienent to use so in several years of ownership, I only used it once. This electric fonue pot, on the other hand, is light and SO easy to use - just plug it in! It warms quickly and cleans easy so it's great to have several courses through the evening. It's also wide so it's great for entertaining as well. I'd highly recommend this to any one! I used the pokers and haven't scratched any surface, but it may be possible in the future. We'll just have to wait and see!...

My husband and I love to make fondue on Saturday nights during the colder months. We've been through a few different sets in the past 5 years and have recently started using the Cuisinart CFO-3SS Electric Fondue Pot that I received at my bridal shower. This baby is our favorite fondue setup so far!

This Electric Fondue Pot has a 3-quart capacity, nonstick interior, and a heating element with adjustable thermostat built into the base. It comes with a lid, 8 fondue forks, and an insert that allows you to rest the forks in the fondue. According to the Cuisinart web site, "the entire unit is dishwasher safe". We've only washed the insert, lid, and forks in the dishwasher. The actual pot we hand-wash with a soft sponge so as not to damage the nonstick coating.

We've done a few cheese fondues (cheese/garlic, brie/mushroom) in our Cuisinart Electric Fondue Pot. My husband was able to do both of them directly in the pot from start to finish, with the exception of rehydrating the dried...
...

I am picky. There, I said it. I like things done my way. Better yet, I want things done to my liking. For example, I don't like my toast very toasted...as in I don't want it brown. I want it toasted to the point where there is a crisp to the toast, but it's not yet brown. Another example - I like my marshmallows for my smores to be soft and gooey and melted, but not toasted. This is virtually impossible to do when roasting marshmallows on an open fire.....oops, sorry, wrong lyrics!!!! I have, however, managed to perfect the act of roasting my marshmallows to my liking....however it takes forever and everyone has had 2 or 3 smores before I even get my first one made!

That all ended on my birthday last week when my friend got me the perfect gift...the Progressive Microwave Smores Maker! The ultimate solution to my pickiness! And it really can't be any more simple.

1. Fill water reservior.
2. Assemble smores.
3. Put in microwave for 30 seconds.
4. Enjoy perfectly melted marshmallow and chocolate......

I finally felt convicted to do my part for the environment and my first step of action was to quit buying bottled water. The problem with that is I am addicted to it--the taste, the idea of a quick and easy bottle etc. I have a thing about tap water--I HATE IT! I can barely drink restaurant water. Thankfully, I found the Brita Disposable Kitchen Filter. I didn't know that my own tap water, which costs pennies compared to expensive bottled water, could taste so clean, refreshing and delicious! The best part is, I only have to buy a small water filter every three months rather than two to three heavy cases of bottled water weekly!...

vhfvhf says "Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer is an heirloom" about Top Ten Kitchen Appliances

A Kitchen Aid stand mixer is truly an heirloom. You could will it to your heirs because it never breaks down or wears out. It allows hands free mixing while you create your favorite heirloom recipes. There are so many attachments, you can create anything.

My two favorite attachments are the doughhook and ice cream bowl. Forget the bread machine. You can make any bread recipe quickly and easily because the doughhook kneads for you. Just measure ingredients into the bowl, turn on the mixer, and in a few minutes you have homemade dough goodness to shape how you want and bake. The ice cream bowl stores in your freezer so no ice is needed to make any flavor of ice cream you want. I've even made sherbet which rivals anything you buy at the store.

The recipe book that comes with the mixer is packed with a huge variety of choices. Be sure to take advantage of tested delicious recipes while you're using your new gem of a mixer.

I haven't yet purchased all of the attachments available...
...

I bought the Emerson Portable Ice Maker right before July 4th. It really came in handy making ice for drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. I didn't have to worry about running out of ice either. The ice maker sits on my counter top and uses distilled water to make the ice. The ice is bullet shaped and comes in 3 sizes. I've used small and medium, but not the large. I can't tell much difference between the small and medium size. I purchased the product from Target for 109.99 on sale regular price was 139.99. Model # IM90....

farrahcone says "Works great but needs replacing more often than I thought." about Brita Disposable Faucet Filter

I think this product offers all that it promises too. It looks great in any kitchen, especially those that have a stainless appliances or silver faucet. You will instantly notice the difference in your water from the first glass. This product also has a handy feature of letting you know when the filter needs replacing so there is no guessing or counting days. The only thing that I didn't like about this product was that the filter does seem to need to be replaced quite frequently, so if your family uses the filter for all water use in your house ( like cooking, drinking, etc.) it can get a little spendy to continue to replace filter. The actual mount is very easy to clean and even almost two years later looks great!!!...

This fondue pot is great. I have two, a stainless steel one, and this Rival electric one. The Rival is great b/c of the tephlon coating, making it easy to clean. The fact that it's electric also ensures that it isn't too hot (boiling) or gets too cold thanks to the dail of heat to be delivered. The plug is also a child safe plug, that is magnetic incase it gets pulled on. No spill to deal with!...

We bought this hot pot after I destroyed our other brand by leaving it on the stove and then turning on the wrong burner. Oops! The next week, this Crofton model was a special purchase at Aldi so I picked one up. It is cheaper than the other brand (I got the other brand at Target, but don't remember what it is), and I like it better because it has a safety automatic shutoff whereas the other one didn't. This one boils great and has a filter to ensure quality water. All-in-all, a great purchase!
...

We had PUR faucet mount water filters for a few years - I will be reviewing them soon. Anyway, I had seen the Brita disposable faucet mount systems for the kitchen and bathroom, and decided to try them to see if it would be more cost effective to use a disposable unit rather than getting replacement filters every month or two. I had to call Brita for the different faucet mounts that they offer free of charge - the ones that came with the unit did not work right with our faucet - probably part of the problem we had with one of the PUR units. They were really nice on the phone, and I got the extra mounts really quickly. I installed the unit, and used it as we usually do - for just about everything - to fill the coffee pot at least once a day, for iced tea, for drinking water, to mix concentrated juice, to make Kool-Aid, for ice cubes, for drinking water for the bird and cat - you get the picture. I was really impressed - I installed the unit in May, and was still using the same......

CyndiA says "Cyndi's Top Ten Small Kitchen Appliances" about Top Ten Kitchen Appliances

I confess. I am a kitchen appliance geek. I can't help myself. Viewpoints feeds this addiction. I read about something wonderful I don't have, and I want it - BAD. In fact, I have now added more cabinets in my kitchen. My brother did that for my Christmas present. Perfect!
If I had to narrow my small kitchen appliances down to ten, that would be hard. Of course, I'd never be without some of the big appliances like the stove and refrigerator. Those don't count here. But the small ones. Which ten would I take to a desert island? Well, none. No electricity, but you get the drift.

I decided to limit my selections to small kitchen appliances - the ones that plug in. I have a lot of low tech kitchen gadgets I love too. Doesn't seem quite fair to compare. Apples and oranges.

Cyndi's Top Ten Small Kitchen Appliances (scrambled like eggs - all good)

1. Microwave - If you're of a certain age, you will know that kitchens were not born with microwave ovens. They haven't even been around ALL THAT LONG....
...

CyndiA says "I'm the muffin queen with the fabulous Muffin Magic." about Muffin Magic Electric Muffin Maker

I bought my older son a Hamilton Beach personal blender to make smoothies and wanted something kind of cool for my younger son. He loves muffins but has never made them. I saw the Muffin Magic and thought he might enjoy having his own personal muffin maker.

On the one hand, I was thinking that it was kind of silly to buy a muffin maker. After all, we have muffin pans and an oven. Then I thought that it would be nice not to have to heat up a big, old oven to make muffins. A small machine would save energy. It would also keep the kitchen cooler during hot weather.

I went back and forth with the Muffin Magic in my cart. It really wasn't very expensive, so I decided "What the heck? I'm going to buy it."

I have been 100% happy with the Muffin Magic. It's even better than I expected or dared hope.

First, it's super easy. Plug it in. The red light comes on. Wait for the green. Not very long. Spray the holes with Pam. Put in the batter. Close the top. Time it. No auto turn off. No problem though....
...
