I went to my friends house for dinner and saw the Black & Decker Handy Steamer & Rice Cooker in use on the kitchen counter. I don't know what planet I have been living on, but I had never seen an electric steamer until just then! I always pictured the metal steaming pots you use on the stove. Anyways, I was totally amazed at what it could do so I went out and bought one that very same weekend.

I don't know what I would do without my Black & Decker Handy Steamer now that I have been using it for so long. I love that it is easy to use - just add water to the water tray and turn it on! It is also a very healthy way to cook your vegetables. It can also be used as a rice cooker, but I am old-fashioned I guess because I like to make my rice on the stove.

Even if you can't or don't like to cook, you can use this steamer. Just be careful when removing the lid to the steamer after steaming; I have burned my hands from not removing the lid quickly enough.

With just the two of us to cook for now I am having to adjust recipes, methods of cooking and my whole sense of proportions. The Rival RC61 3-cup Rice Cooker takes all the guess work out of making rice. [I wish it could take all of the guess work out of everything else!]

Although capable of making up to 6 cups of cooked rice it is better suited for making smaller portions. The measuring cup that comes with the unit should be used to measure both the rice and water as it has a special markings on it for perfect rice. A standard measuring cup will not achieve the same results. Using the cup provided 3/4 cup of uncooked rice will yield 2 1/4 cups of cooked rice.

Any variety of rice can be used in the cooker including basmati, black, Arborio, risotto, wild, short and long grain. Brown rice will take a bit longer to cook. My favorite is jasmine rice.

The Salton 3 cup rice cooker is nice to have, but nothing too exciting. The rice on the bottom always gets burnt, which isnt exactly what I would want. It not bad, just not wonderful. I thought it would be a great help to me in the kitchen, but i still prefer to make rice the way I used to before I got this. I have a different rice cooker, that is an 8 cup one, it is a much better one. Much easier to clean and the rice comes out good. The salton is only ok. ...

My son gave me one of these Aroma rice steamers for Xmas one year in red to match my kitchen. At first it sat there matching the decor then I finally tried using it and now use it at least twice a week! It's a must have for working moms like me....

The Pampered Chef rice cooker was a great purchase. The price is great and it cooks perfect rice everytime. Never burnt, never sticky, never under or over cooked. The best part is after dinner you can just put the lid back on and pop it in the refridgerator!...

I have repeatedly used this product hoping for better results each time. I called the manufacturer and was told to rinse the rice before placing in the cooker and to use less water than the recommended amount. Tried that too with the same results. The lid has a small hole out of which blasts the sticky rice water, coating everything in, on or around the counter the cooker is sittting on. What a mess!! The rice comes out either very sticky and clumped together or mushy. I've never gotten fluffy rice with this cooker. As a steamer for vegetables, fish, etc. it works great; but, forget cooking rice in this rice cooker.

I saw this many times, but my husband bought it for me for Mother's Day this year! While yes it did cost about $80 it was well worth every penny!! You can make alot of rice or as little as a cup. Easy measuring inside pot. Non-stick surface makes clean up sooo easy. It cooks quick. It keeps rice warm for 12 hrs. Rice cooks perfectly. And the cord retracts into machine when not in use. It is very very simple to use. All you do is plug it in, add rice and water, and press the button! That is it! I would recommend this product to anyone who doesn't want to go to the trouble of making rice on the stove. You will never get burnt rice, you don't have to stand there and watch it. It is truely a great product!!!!!!...

I purchased my Oster Rice Cooker and Steamer and I have had a chance to use it several times to make different types of rice and I love it. I have always cooked my rice in a pot over the stove, I learned to do so from my mother. When I got married my husband convinced me to try it out, especially since we were getting a name brand product for such a deal, you have got to love Macys. I cannot imagine cooking rice over the stove again. I have modified the quantities is calls for in making sushi rice but other than that the rice comes out perfect. And brown rice, which takes at least twenty five minutes to cook, cooks in half the time. And the great thing about it is when the rice is cooked, the machine goes from cooking mode to warming mode so I can do other things while its cooking or make my rice in advance and keep it warmed. They should name this steamer, "the dummy cooker" because anyone can use it. It's so ridiculuously easy, and it cooks food to perfection. It has three separate steamer baskets with each one having it's individual timer. This is the best thing about this steamer: you can throw fish in one basket, potatoes in another, and your vegetables in the last one and they will all be done at the same time even though each takes a different amount of time to cook. For example, your potatoes will cook the longest so those will start cooking first, and then your vegetables will kick on second, and your fish last. They all finish at the same time and the steamer goes into a 1 hour warming mode. This is particularly nice for when you are busy and don't have time to slave over a hot stove. I can be busy away from the kitchen and come back to a hot meal even if the food had stopped cooking 40 minutes before.

The baskets and drip tray are easy to clean. They are also fine to go in the dishwasher. The only hassle......

Oster 5712 Electronic 2-tier food steamer is just superb! I never used a food steamer before and I didn't have any problem to use it rightaway after reading the manual. I prefer to do things parallely so that I can finish my cooking in less time. My Oster food steamer helps to do that. Steamer is not the option to cook faster but certainly it helps you not to stand in front of your stove to monitor. So you can practically do anything out of your kitchen while cooking in this steamer. It has alarm system to let you know when you need to put more water. It has a 95 minute timer with LCD display. You can delay your cooking upto 12 hours. You can keep warm your food while you prepare rest of your meal. I love this rice cooker. Comes with everything you need to make great rice . Has a steamer basket for steaming vegetables and other foods, like fish. I have had my cooker over a year and use it several times a week . I have never had any problems at all. I have used it to cook other foods, although I'm not sure if that is recommended....

I didn't even know things like this existed until my wife, who just recently immigrated here from China, insisted that we go out and buy one. We shopped various stores and found only a few models available and settled on this one based on it's rather low price and desireable features.

I must say I was rather impressed with how easy it is to use and how good the rice tastes in comparison to all that boil-in bag/instant rice I had been eating for years. It does take longer for the rice to cook than the above type but definetely worth waiting that little extra time.

She also uses it for cooking other types of Chinese dishes, with other ingredients such as couscous, or other grains. Not to my liking but she loves it and it keeps her from complaining too much about how she misses the food from China.

This rice cooker is a little work horse. Yes, the rice is perfect; mac and cheese fabulous, oh, but that's only the tip of the ice burg. Ribs, chili, Sloppy Joes, soups, meatballs, steamed fish and vegetables and on and on. It's as easy as a slow cooker, but faster. The stay warm feature is a blessing when scheduling the family's meals is difficult. I don't know what I did without this Rice Cooker. Just remember, be creative. PS: There are now cook books just for Rice Cookers....

I have worked for a lady which was moving, and she gave me a rice cooker, which I never owned. So, I tried it and I liked the way my rice turned out perfect. I think this is a nice gadget for the kitchen. It is a black and decker rice cooker plus. Yes I would try others.

This cooker does make very fluffy rice that doesn't stick together. However, it spurts gooey liquid out the top while cooking. You must put something on the counter to catch the goo which seens to be starch from the rice. The rice also took longer to cook than in a regular pot on the stove....

Simple to operate and very easy to clean. The lack of a timer makes it difficult to know when rice will be done and although it automatically switches to a warming feature after rice is cooked, if not unplugged or additional liquid added, rice can burn after a short period.

I'm one of those that cook traditionally in pots but wanted something that was a bit easier to use and didn't require me to watch over without burning. A friend showed me her rice cooker and I loved the ease of use. However, I've always been fond of Cuisinart products and decided that for the look and money this was the one for me and was I right!

I've had this Cuisinart CRC-800 8-Cup Rice Cooker for several months now. I really enjoy making white rice and seasoned rice in this unit. It's as easy as measure, add water (season to taste), and turn on. No need to watch over it. Once it has cooked it automatically turns to a warm cycle. If the rice isn't fully cooked (depending on the type of rice you use) just turn the rice and turn the cooker on again. The rice will cook to perfection. This has got to be the easiest way I've cooked rice without being a slave to the kitchen.

And, if you like to add beans like me, it is just as easy. Just prepare as you would normally, add rice and water and...

I HAVE HAD MY RICE COOKER FOR ALMOST TWO YEARS AND I USE IT EVERY WEEK. WHAT I LIKE BEST ABOUT IT IS YOU PUT THE WATER IN, ADD RICE SET IT AND YOU DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT IT ANY MORE. IT MAKES RICE SO FLUFFY AND NON OF THEM STICK TOGETHER.

I ALSO USE MINE TO STEAM VEGETABLES. MU HUSBAND WOULD NOT EAT BROCCI OR CALIFLOWAR UNTIL I STARTED DOING THEM IN MY RICE COOKER.

MINE IS ALSO VERY EASY TO CLEAN. I HAVE NEVER HAD TO SCRUB YET. IF FOR ANY REASON MINE BROKE FOR SOME REASON I WOULS GET ANOTHER ONE.

I love my White Westinghouse Rice cooker. I use it all the time. I can cook more than just rice in it. From steaming vegetables to fixing hamburger, chicken or tuna helper in it. I have had it for 3 years and it hasn't let me done. The cost was very reasonable and works just as good as those expensive brands.
