This is the worst washer ever do not buy it, you will regret it. The collar holds water and does not drain which causes mold to form. This mold is next to impossible to remove. With this " high efficiency" washer I have to run four cycles for each load of laundry. I have to run a bleach load first to try to get rid of the stink (never really goes away) then wash, then spin and then drain cycles and repeat for each load. This washer has ruined my handmade baby blankets and many articles of my and my childrens clothes with streaks of mold that does not come out. When you call Bosch they tell you to leave the door open. Thanks, you do not think I have been doing that. They basically said unless there is a lawsuit they will not do anything. Do not buy this washer you will regret it.
...

pcm says "Class action suit against Whirlpool for mold and mildew w/ Duets" about Whirlpool Duet Washer/Dryer Machines

Whirlpool Duet, Duet Sport and Duet HT front loaders all have a terrible mold and mildew smell during the wash that consumers have brought a class action suit against the company. I thought I was going crazy and it was my septic.I have had to throw out towels because the dishcloth or dish towel would smell coming out of the dryer! I couldn't understand it. I thought it was the kind of towel (microfiber ones). I had the technician come out and he said it was from my 2x concentrate detergent but my washer was fine. The clothes do not clean well and I would never buy Whirlpool again because my dishwasher also does not do a good job cleaning my dishes. I use to love Whirlpool products 15 years ago but after having this washer for only 3 years, I will never buy any Whirlpool item again. Since I just found out about the class action suit and what other consumers have gone through, I now have to go buy another machine because I can not expose my family to mold and mildew on their clothes....
...

Bosch Nexxt 500 plus. I would NEVER buy a Bosch front loader again. Bought this Bosch Washer and Dryer in May 2008. Had a repairman out because on the refresh cycle the clothes came out sopping wet, wasn't spinning the water out. The repairman couldn't find anything wrong and called the company to be told that I was using too much or improper detergent. I use HE detergent and used only what the bottle told me. Company said to use 2 tbsps. I have done that and still at times clogs up again. I started using 1 tsps HE detergent and today it wouldn't spin the clothes thoroughly again. I wish I had bought a top loader or a different brand. Bought on the recommendation of Consumer Reports and the representative at the store. Would not recommend to anyone. For the price, you could buy a top of the line top loader.

I have had the w/d pair of LG Tromm for about 2 years. The dryer is fine, but the washer is not. The washer always cleaned well enough, that was never the problem, although the length of wash time, even on short wash, and the amount of vibration was interesting. The first easily noticable thing was how on opening the door after washing, clean clothes would fall out onto the floor. I don't like FL just for that reason alone. As well, bleach can be a real problem. I wondered why some of my clothes were becoming bleach damaged when no bleach had been added to the wash, I realized the liquid bleach container still had traces of bleach in it which came out in future loads. BE CAREFUL ABOUT USING BLEACH, YOU WILL RUIN THE CLOTHES IN THE NEXT LOAD. About a month ago the washer began smelling of mildew. I had never had a problem with that in all the time beforehand. It is a real problem, the gasket is sludgy, there is slime on the underside of the drum that I can't reach in...
...

Kenmore Elite HE 5t Steam clothing washer:

Sears has come out to repair a leak due to a faulty rubber boot twice. The rubber boot is a large gasket sealing the door to the drum. It is held on with a metal ring. It fell off twice. If we had to pay it would be $200 a pop.

Now that it leaks a third time in a year, they are saying it is our problem. Their "customer solutions " department is only a way to get you out of their hair as expediently and with as little cost to Sears as possible. Think of it as if you are dealing with an insurance claim. Just as painful. It may be a better value to sell this paperweight on craigslist and get a reliable machine from a local appliance dealer vs sears. Also, it smells of mildew if we keep the door closed.
...

VERY LITTLE WATER PROVIDED TO WASH. SHEETS ARE WOUND UP IN A KNOT. PUTS HOLES IN YOUR CLOTHING. RINSES A WAD OF CLOTHES SO THEREFORE NOTHING IS RINSED WELL. A TOTAL WASTE OF $1800.00 FOR WASHER AND DRYER FROM LOWES. I'VE HAD IT FOR 1 YEAR AND I WOULDN'T GIVE IT TO A FRIEND BECAUSE I WANT TO KEEP MY FRIENDS. HECK, I WON'T EVEN GIVE IT TO GOODWILL. I AM GOING TO TAKE IT TO THE DUMP AND GET GREAT PLEASURE OUT OF SMASHING IT. I HAVE HAD TO DO NO REPAIRS BECAUSE I RARELY RUN IT AND SAVE MY CLOTHES TO DO IN ONE TERRIBLE DAY. I PURCHSED THE MAINTENANCE AGREEMENT AND HAVE CONSIDERED SABOTAGING THE WASHER JUST TO MAKE WHIRLPOOL HAVE TO SPEND MONEY TO COME TO MY HOME. BUT I AM HONEST, UNLIKE WHIRLPOOL. I HATE WASHING NOW AND I HATE WATER SAVING GREEN TREE HUGGERS. DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THE HE DETERGENT YOU HAVE TO BUY FOR IT. THIS IS THE WORST THING I HAVE EVER BOUGHT IN MY LIFE AND I AM OVER 50 YEARS OLD. WHIRLPOOL CABRIO IS A NIGHTMARE. IT MAY LOOK GOOD BUT IT IS ROT. THE DRYER IS A REAL...
...

lgspeaksout says "My clothes smell dirty because of mold on the door" about Bosch Nexxt Washer - 500 Front Load

I was thrilled when I first bought my Bosch. It was beautiful to look at and I was happy to have the effienciency and large capacity. But that changed quickly. A mold problem developed on the door and causes the clothes to smell bad. I have cleaned with everthing as instructed by Bosch but to no avail. Bosch said they could not replace the machine because it still functions. I thought the function of the machine was to get clothes clean. If they smell dirty, then my guess is that they have mold on them from the door. The Bosch representative told me there is no way to get the mold out of the door ring.

Bottom line - I will never buy another Bosch product. Not only am I embarrased about the bad smell, but I will be forced to buy anothe machine (probably a top loader) that is not as energy efficient. My initial investment in the machine is especially painful during these hard economic times.

I have had a Kenmore Elite HE3 Washing machine for about 5 years now. One of the reasons I bought it was for the reliability of the Kenmore Brand. I've already had 2 service calls on it and am about to have another one. It often fills up with water on its own. The Plastic band between the drum and the door has twisted up twice. This morning when I woke it, it was running on its own, completely full of water and will not drain. I had to unplug it to get it to stop. If it was 10-15 years old, I wouldn't be so upset but we spent alot of money on this set and I'm not happy at all. I would not buy another one.

Maytag Neptune Front Loader-non-electronic control

If this machine ever dies, I will go through the five stages of grief. I purchased my machine in 2000 and use it every day. I love it because it saves so much water and detergent, henceforth so much of my green. I love it because it is smart and knows if the load is big or little. I love how it wrings every drop of water out of my clothes, towels and blankets so that they dry almost instantly on the line. I love that it is gentle, never tearing up a bra or slip. I love to stuff it totally full of clothes, because I CAN, and yes, they WILL be clean. I love that my washer has NEVER had an odd smell even though I never clean it or leave the door open and live in Missouri with 90% humidity and keep it in a stuffy little laundry room with little ventilation. . I love that it has push buttons and a big knob and I am in control of how much detergent or softener goes in, or how to treat a grass stain. I love that it has NEVER needed one repair....
...

PaddyB says "The Whirlpool Duet Washer is an absolute piece of junk." about Whirlpool Duet - Washer Dryer

3 years and I had to replace the door gasket for $250 on my whirlpool duet washing machine. After 3.5 years the main bearing is going bad. Cost prohibitive to repair. I've subsequntly have gone on line to research this issue and have discovered this is not an uncommon problem. Before you buy, please reseach. If you still decide to buy, please get the extended warranty.

On top of the mechanical problems this thing stinks (actually smells). The design promotes mold and mildew that will premeate through your house. Oh, there's a fix for that too. Just pay about $40's per year for a product to reduce the stench.

We bought our Whirlpool Cabrio in July 2007. One month later we started getting the F1 error and washes would cease with clothes sitting in a puddle of water. It took 4 visits by repair men over a period of a month for them to finally decide to replace the drive unit. Needless to say our ability to wash clothes was severely restricted and hit/miss during this fiasco. I called Whirlpool several time to ask them if they could just take this @#@#%& machine away. Of course they wouldn't do that. The machine ran OK for about two years after that but now it leaks while running. It appears to be coming from some kind of pump inside. Of course the warrantly has expired. I have never owned such a troublesome washer, or any other appliance, as this thing....no more Whirlpool stuff for us.
...

I have had my Kenmore HE5t w/d set for over a year. I have been disappointed since day one. My husband's shirts and slacks that used to be wash and wear, I now send out to be laundered. My clothes come out twisted from the washer and wrinkled from the dryer, but what do you expect when the cool down cycle is only 4 minutes long. I feel my daughter's athletic clothes do not get clean (so I pretreat and put on 'heavy' wash, which I didn't do with the old machines). I have tried everything; numerous detergents and softeners, different automatic and manual cyles, different water temps. and drying temps., I have acutally sat in front of the machines timing cycles to see it they are operating properly, and lastly, of course, I have had the repairman out many a time.(One repairman said I knew more than any technician he had worked with) All said the machines were both working properly. I don't think so!-Not when the clothes are not completely clean and wrinkled. Not one repairman has been able...
...

I purchased a Bosch front loader washer & dryer in Oct. 2007. The front rubber seal smells awful and I have used the expensive tablets which in my opinion defeats the purpose of saving money by using this washer. If I don't leave my door open on the washer, it smells like mold. My washer & dryer is located behind closed doors in my main bathroom so this means I have to leave them open also. If I had been told this I would have purchased an old faithful top loader instead. Also sometimes it doesn't spin all the water out, repairman looked at it while still under warranty and said to adjust detergent. When this happens you have to run a complete cycle to spin out. It won't just let you spin the water out. These front loaders are more trouble then they are worth. Will not buy this brand again!
...

We bought a Whirlpool topload washer Model WTW5540SQ0 in August of '06. I have hated it from the day we got it home. It's loud. It leaves the clothes half wet after it spins. You can respin the clothes & it doesn't help a bit. The clothes never come as clean as my old washer got them.

My previous washer & dryer were Kitchenaids. They lasted 20 years! They were quiet. They spun the clothes out really dry, especially towels. In fact, I'd take the tired Kitchenaid back if I could get it. Even barely working it was better than the Whirlpool

I heard that Kitchenaid washers were made by Whirlpool but there is a HUGE difference in quality.

My brother said most men think as long as you don't get the lowest priced washer you're getting a pretty good one. (That's exactly what my husband thought; he picked the Whirpool washer.) My brother said to look at the spin rpm & if it's not listed it's probably crap. I'll agree with my brother.

DeniseDonohue says "Think twice before buying a Duet washing machine." about Whirlpool Front Loader Washing Machine

Six-year-old Duet has had handle break off in my hand. Luckily, I have figured out how to buy part locally and husband could fix this one. (PS - The replacement handle, $25, has a lifetime guarantee. Don't know why they didn't put the lifetime handle on the first time.) Often the Duet seems to not fully spin the water out. Friday night it broke completely. I had to pull sheets out and wring out by hand - took an hour to dry. Had to bail the entire washer out Saturday as I cannot get the cycle to reboot and drain. Will have to wait three to four days for repair, I imagine. Also, design faulty in that the nature of this front-loader is a giant grey rubber gasket around the door. It never leaks, so don't worry about that. But water/moisture does get under the gasket. I wondered about the odor and some of my aerobics clothes seemed to get a mildewed smell. One time when I was gone on business, my husband sniffed out the odor, peeled back the gasket and found 1/4 inch...
...

Mikehunt says "NOT REALLY WORTH THE MONEY" about Frigidaire Washer - Affinity Front Load

We have had our unit for over a year now. Worked great at first but then noticed it starting to leak around the front door seal and was shooting water out the side of the door during spin cycle. Had a repair man come 3 times and said there is nothing wrong and use less soap. After the last visit i was pissed so I said change the bloody gasket while it is under warranty still. He said after repairing the unit that there were a lot of similar problems with this particular unit. Since gasket was replaced it no longer leaks but wonder if it will have to be replaced again next year. Dont know if we will ever buy another frigidaire again. The repair man was a **** as well.
...

jenn779201 says "The washer/dryer is not efficient!" about LG WM3431 Front Load All-in-One Washer / Dryer

The combo washer and dryer is great if you need to save space! The washer is great however when it is done washing it does not have a option to continue to drying. When your ready to dry it takes almost 4 hours!!! It does not operate like a typical dryer - it has no air vent so after the clothes are dry they must cool down and that takes another half an hour! If you need to dry something quickly to get wrinkles out this will not work - if you are in a hurry and need to grab something out of the dryer and run out the door this will not work because of the cool down process - the door is locked until finished. Your clothes cannot be worn without ironing them after washing. Overall I would not recommend this product - it is very very small and takes twice the time of a normal washer / dryer. I would also be concered about the power bill if it takes over 5 hours to finish one load of laundry!!
...

Elapats says "H.E. WASHERS CREATE DINGY RESULTS" about Maytag Front Loader Washing Machine

We replaced our Maytag older top loader with a new expensive Maytag H.E. machine. While it is quiet and uses less water, I am dismayed at how dingy the whites are. I have tried everything, bleach, sanitary cycle, oxygenated products, Tide for H.E. machines and Cheer for H.E. machines. The only marginal success is with much fewer items per load and shorter wash cycles. My theory is that with less water, the dirt and detergent are forced into the fabric by the rolling action of the washer. I will never purchase another H.E. machine. It takes more time and water to process laundry than my old top loader to get CLEAN white clothes.

When I discussed this with the factory representative they were in denial and unsympathetic, offering no solutions. I had to figure it out myself. H.E. Machine purchasers, beware!!
...
