shelltells2 says "The Best!" about Prilosec OTC

I tried everything for fighting acid reflux before I broke down and paid extra for this product. I didn't like the cost compared to Tums and Rolaids but it was the only thing that worked so that made it all worthwhile. At first I just had heart burn and others were fine for that but after it got worse I was constantly suffering. I thought I just had to live with it until someone gave me Prilosec to try. It worked great and I've used it every since. It isn't a quick fix so if you need instant relief this isn't the product you're looking for. But if you take this regularly, you'll find you never need anything else. Even though it's an over the counter drug you can also get it in prescription form as well. It came recommended by my doctor as well. I've told several people to try it and they've all experienced relief as a result of using this product. If you suffer from acid reflux you won't be disappointed either. It's simply the best!
...

jedipple says "Zantac not as strong as Prilosec." about Zantac 75 Tablet Relief of Heartburn

The other day I had run out of the Prilosec that I usually take for heartburn. I had some Zantac, so took one of those each night at bedtime. They really do not work near as good as the Prilosec. The heart burn was so bad and I took one of the Zantac and then chewed on tums until I could fall asleep. The next day I found a coupon for Previcid that has now come out with an over the counter pill, so I sent my husband to the store to get some for me and use the coupon. He only got a small container of them, as they have just been put on the market and wasn't sure if they would be as good as the Prilosec pills I have been using and run out of. They are just as good and I think they have a time release element to them that the Zantac don't have. I was paying over $400.00 to get the prescription filled when the doctor ordered them for me. You have to keep trying different pills to see what works for you and always read all the information.
...

Nexium (the purple pill) works very well for my heartburn, and it always has. You take one a day, and it takes all your heartburn away for days. I would forget to take it on a daily basis, and it still would work for me for up to two weeks, I would still be totally heartburn free. I really could'nt believe how well it actually worked for me. I would take other heartburn medicines, and the first day that I would forget, my heartburn would flare up like my chest was on fire, but not with Nexium, not at all. I really wish that my insurance now would allow me to get this heartburn med, because for me, it really does work. But one bad thing is not alot of insurances want to buy this for you because it is so expensive, but insurances should take a look that if it works so good then you have to pay for less Doctor visits, and is really cheaper in the end. No other heartburn medicine works better then the purple pill.
...

brekkie says "Beano relieves my bloat." about GlaxoSmithKline Beano

Beano provides great gas relief. I take a couple of pills in the morning and it seems to help all day. I used to feel bloated all the time, but after taking Beano, I feel so much better.

I do not know if it works if you take it after you eat. You are supposed to take it before meals, and if you follow the directions, it works well.

I noticed a difference the first time I used it. The bloat that usually accompanies eating was reduced dramatically.

The pill size is really easy to swallow.

The bottles come in a variety of sizes, and the last couple boxes I purchased had a coupon printed on the inside of the box.

They seem to be about average in price. It would not hurt to be cheaper, but it certainly is not outrageous. It was very comparable to the store brand gas relief pills.

I have not noticed any undesirable tastes or other such side effects. There has been no problem with excess gas.
...

I have used Prilosec OTC for about a year now and I am very happy with the medicine. I was using a prescription drug and it cost me over $300.00 to get the medicine, which I could not afford. I worked with the drugist and he said to try Prilosec OTC for two weeks and see if that would help me. It works very well for heartburn and I have a hialtie hernia and really need a very effective medicine. I watch for when the Prilosec OTC is on sale and when I have a coupon from the newspaper, before I purchase my months supply. I also take my pill in the evening as this is when you could have the most problem. I tried the Zantac OTC, but that didn't work for me. The Prilosec OTC has a delayed realease action to it that helps me for many hours. I think this is great to have an over the counter medicine that works as good as a prescription, especially when the drug companies take so long to come out with a generic pill.
...

cassiya2 says "Sweet relief!" about Prilosec OTC

When my doctor first told me to try Prilosec OTC to relieve my heartburn, I balked at the price. The cheapskate in me wanted to stick with the sometimes-it-work, sometimes-it-doesn't Mylanta. But after months of sudden, painful heartburn I decided to give it a go.

I must say, Prilosec is well worth the money! Instead of belching onions for hours after I eat a salad (I love them and am not willing to give up eating them) I'm sitting pretty and pain-free! Hallelujah! The only downside is that it is a preventative medicine rather than for relief of immediate problems, so you have to plan on taking it ahead of time.

It may be pricier than things like Mylanta and Pepto Bismal, but Prilosec OTC is certainly worth the cost!
...

LoveisJoy says "With Yogi Tea, Getting Regular Never Tasted So Good" about Yogi Tea Get Regular, Made with Organic Senna

Occasionally irregularity is a problem for those of us who are sedentary due to chronic illness. I've tried different laxatives, fiber drinks and tablets, and even altered my diet with varying degrees of success. Recently, I discovered a product that helps things along without the discomfort of harsh medicines. Yogi Tea, Get Regular with Organic Senna is an herbal laxative in a delicious cup of spicy tea.

Yogi Get Regular Tea contains a special blend of tasty and functional ingredients:

Anise, Cardamom and Ginger: alleviates gas and acts as a balance to senna.

Peppermint: helps speed digestion

Licorice: soothes and coats the bowels

Amla, Bibhitaki, and Haritaki Herbal Berries: tones and rejuvenates eliminative functions

Yellow Dock and Dandelion: helps the liver to release more bile, resulting in the "urge" for a bowel movement.

I've found that Yogi Get Regular Tea consistently provides relief within 6 to 8 hours. The tea itself is flavorful, with a rich, spicy...
...

Bryan-Carey says "Prilosec OTC Provides Long Term Stomach Acid Relief" about Prilosec OTC

Excess stomach acid can cause great discomfort. Heartburn is one common problem associated with out of control stomach acid, but GERD/acid reflux is even worse because it can lead to lesions in the throat and other health issues. To stop heartburn and associated problems, I sometimes reach for Prilosec OTC, a remedy for stomach pain.

Drug Commentary:

Prilosec OTC helps relieve stomach acid problems by blocking the production of stomach acid. This makes it a little different from other antacids, which usually work to neutralize the stomach acid already present. Prilosec OTC accomplishes its mission through the active ingredient Omeprazole Magnesium. This ingredient is released on a delayed basis, and this means that Prilosec OTC can help relieve problems associated with stomach acid for a full day.

I have the occasional bout with excess stomach acid, usually the result of overeating or consuming foods and beverages that are either spicy or high in acid. I have an assortment of antacid...
...

elvisdo says "Relief Comes in the Form of Pepcid Complete" about Pepcid Complete Chewable Tablets Berry 25 Tablets

There are times when I find that eating becomes a chore. It becomes worse especially when heartburn occurs and the feeling isn't a pleasant one. Luckily for me, my wife is a smart cookie because she experiences the same thing. And she always makes sure that our household is never out of Pepcid Complete Berry Blend Chewable Tablet.

Pepcid Complete is a great 2-in-1 medication that will help reduce these uncomfortable attacks. I, for one, am glad that they come in chewable tablets. The older I get, the more I start to appreciate chewing rather than swallowing. And it does specify that you need to chew it; swallowing is a no-no.

The duel action of reducing and neutralizing acid is the selling point for me. Why stop with the heartburn? Let's attack the acid at its source. The best time to take it is right before a meal especially one that you know is going to give you nightmares in your stomach. Doing this will prevent symptoms of heartburn by lowering the rate of acid being released into...
...

TinaBrewer says "Prilosec OTC" about Prilosec OTC

I have used many products over the years and Prilosec is the best. I used it when it was a prescription and loved it. Then my insurance wouldn't cover it, and I had to go to a cheaper product that left me so gassy. It was very embaressing. I had to use that for a few years before my insurance decided that I could have Prilosec again. By then it was over the counter. So at first they balked because they don't like to pay for over the counter medicines, then decided it was cheaper to pay for the Prilosec than to pay for the presciption medicine.

Anyway though when they put Prilosec over the counter, they did change the format just a bit. I have to take 3 a day to cover what one used to do. But it does not make me gassy which is nice. So I take my 3 pink pills, one in the morning and 2 at night. And they work well for me. I do think it depends on each person's metabolism though as to how well they will work for that person.

I do hate the packaging for them though. I complained to the company,...
...

I used to take Nexium. Now I take Prilosec. Prilosec works just as well. My new insurance company would not cover the Nexium pills. I cannot say I take it exactly as directed. I take it when I need it or when I know I am going to be eating something that most liiely will cause a flare up. I love how small the pills are too. Easy to swallow.

My doctor told me to take them anytime I am going to take an OTC like Aleve or Excederin. He says it will protect your stomach from damage.

It is expensive. I really feel like they could lower the price by cutting down on the packaging. I find them hard to get out of the little bubbles which can be really frustrating. If I had one recmmendation for the company it would be to just put the stuff in a bottle. If I cannot open them easily then I sure cannot imagine someone elderly being able to. They recently changed the packaging just a little. Now it is harder than ever to get them out.

Pepto bismol is something i am very familar with and very fond of. i would swear by it and reccommend it to anyone with a stomach ache, indegestion, nausea or heartburn. i get these sysptoms a lot and rely on pepto bismol to get me through the day. Some people do not like the taste of pepto bismol but i do not mind it at all. For those who do mind it, the chewables are a great way to get relief without having to taste it for too long. Pepto Bismol is great for the go and i take the chewables everywhere without having to worry if they are going to spill. I have the chewables in my purse, my medicine cabinet, work and i take them in my travel bag whenever i am traveling to have easy access on the go! Pepto bismol is cheap compared to other medicines in the same "family" and especially cheap compared to the relief it ends up giving you. So, go out and get your bottle of pepto bismol today so that you can enjoy the relief as much as me!
...

It probably makes sense for me to say that I don't often take laxatives. During normal periods I'm about as regular as rain. Constipation is not something that I've had to deal with often.

I'm sure part of it is genetic and part of it has to do with eating habits. My family eats a very high fiber diet and fiber is important for keeping your digestive system in shape and moving.

But of course there have been times when I've done some foolish eating, such as wolfing down a half pound of macadamia nuts that caused my digestive system to grind to a painful halt. That's when you need a really fast acting laxative. And, if that's what you need, this isn't it. This is more a maintenance type of laxative. Something to include in your daily diet to keep you regular.

It doesn't have the immediate effects of citrate of magnesia, glycerin suppositories, a tall glass of prune juice or a stiff dose of castor oil.

LisaCarey says "Allows me to eat the spicy foods I love " about Pepcid AC Acid Controller Tablet Relief Of Heartburn 30 Each

I love spicy foods. So much so that it gets me in trouble from time to time. It's a good thing that there are now medications available over the counter to help get rid of the burning that happens occasionally when I indulge myself in spicy hot wings, chili dogs, or Mexican food. I simply take a Pepcid AC Acid Controller Tablet Relief Of Heartburn.

Pepcid AC Acid Controller Tablet Relief Of Heartburn ingredients: active ingredient Famotidine. Each tablet contains a 10 mg dose of this ingredient, which acts as an acid reducer. Inactive ingredients in Pepcid tablets include hydroxypropyl cellulose, hypromellose, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, red iron oxide, starch, talc, and titanium oxide.

The pills are small and chewable, so I get relief from acid and heart burn that much quicker. I remember Pepcid AC Acid Controller Tablet Relief Of Heartburn being a prescription for me before I had my gall bladder removed and if my doctor recommended it then, I know it can...
...

BayouBengal says "Prilosec OTC is a Great Choice for Controling Acid Reflux" about Prilosec OTC

Prilosec OTC became my husband's standby when he ran out of his prescription for Zantac 150 mg. Both can be obtained over the counter now, but in the case of his prescription, it was cheaper to get it at the pharmacy than buy over the counter. His doctor would not refill his prescription without an office visit (dumb since he has been on this for several years), so that led to him trying Prilosec OTC. Why switch? Because I already had some at the house and it worked for me so he decided why not?

Prilosec OTC comes in boxes of 14, 28, and 42 count. The product works by blocking the acid with one dose a day. It is also great for frequent heartburn sufferers.

Active Ingredients

Omeprazole magnesium delayed-release tablet 20.6 mg (equivalent to 20 mg omeprazole)

My Thoughts on Prilosec OTC

The worst thing about starting Prilosec OTC is that it doesn't work immediately. You have to take it for a couple of days to two weeks for the medication to really kick in and prevent heartburn/acid...
...

TimothyL says "Omeprazole works just as good as prescription medications." about Omeprazole (Generic Prilosec)

Omeprazole (generic: Prilosec) is a medication used to reduce acid content, and thus heartburn, in the stomach. Once a prescription medication, it is the only current medication of its class that has been released over-the-counter. If you suffer or have suffered from H. pylori infections, and/or acid reflux, this medication can help with your healing.

I have found omeprazole helpful when taking harsher medication (like NSAIDs) and to help with the symptoms of a hiatal hernia. A downside to the medication (and a warning by my physician) is that it may decrease absorption of calcium and thus lead to increased risk of bone fractures, so depending on your current condition, age, and other health-related risks, this medication may not be for you. However, the downside usually occurs after long-term use and problems like H.pylori or damage from acid reflux usually take precedence. As always, it's recommended to consult your doctor or pharmacist first.

...

hulapants says "worked great!" about Zantac 75 Tablet Relief of Heartburn

Zantac worked for me! I have only gotten heartburn once in my life, thank god, and it was due to eating a very delicious buffalo spiced chicken and garlic sandwich about 4 minutes before I went to sleep. Since i had never had heartburn before, and didn't even know what it was really, I didn't think twice about eating this lovely sandwich and then laying down horizontally and going to sleep.

So when I woke up at 3 in the morning with weird pains in my chest and esophogus, I thought I was dying. Dying. I was living with my aunt at the time and thought i would have to wake her up and tell her to take me to the hospital. I didn't sleep at all, and since i didn't know what was happening, I didn't know how to cure it. when she finally woke up in the morning, i pounced on her and told her what was happening and she said "oh don't worry, you just have heartburn!" she gave me Tums...they didn't work at all. Then she gave me Zantac and it was gone in about 15 minutes. Oh, sweet relief.

So now I keep...
...

hulapants says "surprisingly, it tastes good!" about Tums Smoothies Cocoa and Creme

I use Tums for a preventative heartburn as opposed to actually curing my heartburn. once I have heartburn, Tums doesn't seem to do anything. I still take it once I have it since I feel like it is better than nothing, but it never seems to get rid of it. but anyway, the Cocoa and Creme flavor of Tums is really really really really good! I was surprised since I thought it would be kind of disgusting. But it's very smooth, not chalky like the other regular flavors, which is nice. They really kind of melt in your mouth. Plus Tums has 600 milligrams of calcium in 2 tablets, which equals out to 60 percent of your calcium needs for the day! You can't go wrong! and you don't feel bad about eating too many of them either, since your'e getting your calcium. I mean, you don't feel bad about taking them if you don't even have heartburn, since it is kind of like a vitamin.

And since Tums is used not just for heartburn, it's also used for sour stomach and acid indigestion and upset stomach, it's a multi-use...
...
