Patewagin says "A Way of Life...not a diet" about The Atkins Diet

Controlling your carbs is a great way to eat! The Atkins Diet is just one of the many diets out there which helps you do just that. Everything Dr. Atkins says in his books is spot on. This way of eating can change your life....and it changed mine.

My husband and I started controlling our carbs via The Atkins Diet about 5 years ago. We both lost 25 pounds each (we didn't have much to lose) and we've kept it off for years. It was really hard at first. At that time, eating low-carb was popular and there were a good number of low-carb products on the market. You could walk into any GNC and buy low-carb cereal, cheesecake, shakes, meal bars and candy. It made it easy to stick to the plan! But the hype ended and many of those products have since gone away.

We still love this way of eating. Trust me, eating eggs every morning gets old quick. So you need to be creative. Save leftovers from previous nights; eat lunchmeat and cheese roll-ups; find a good low-carb shake....
...

kalibobabe says "Atkins- Lost lots of weight and gained more back" about The Atkins Diet

I have used the Atkins diet to lose weight several times but when I add carbs back into my diet, I gain the weight back and usually more. I can follow the diet for several months but it is not a lifetime change for me. I feel fruits and whole grains need to be in my diet in larger quantities than the diet allows. For a few weeks, omlettes, salads and cheese taste so good. I start losing weight immediately. I love being able to eat steak, chicken wings and blue cheese salad dressing while losing weight. I do get headaches easily when I am on this diet. After a few days, the cravings for carbs decrease. I am a carb addict so when I eat one I usually eat many. I enjoy food more when I am on this diet. I plan meals better and eat a lot less simple sugars. I also eat a lot of unhealthy foods on this diet and do not actually feel it is good for my body. I think there are many better ways to lose weight for a lifetime change.
...

It reinforces common sense things about foods and good choices and teaches you a few things you didn't already know. The big key to my success with the program was having to get on that scale every week and have someone record my weight and put it down in writing. It teaches you lifestyle changes and things will stick with you even if you fall of program. I lost 60 pounds following the program and even though I didn't maintain that weight loss since "falling off the wagon" 4 years ago, I've kept half of that off because the changes I made for a healthier lifestyle stuck with me.
...

The NutriSystem program is great for the active person on the go, but it has it's share of problems. It doesn't supply you with the recommended amount of daily servings in order to have a complete nutritional meal. You have to add some fruit and vegetables to supplement your diet. The cost is too expensive for the average person with a family to absorb without going over budget. I spent just as much for the meals for myself as I did for my family of four. In the end is was just too expensive. I started buying healthy foods from the grocery and making meals that were effective with me losing weight and my family eating healthy.
...

Weight Watchers works if you work the plan. I have lost 20 pounds on the plan and I eat what I fix my family...just smaller portions. I have been on WW several times and it always works. My problem is ME. I get lazy and don't count my points or plan my menu or I go out to eat and forget about WW when I see the pictures of yummy food! If you stick to the plan, log the foods you eat, plan your meals and plan what you are going to eat before you go out, then you will succeed.

WW take the calories, fat and fiber in a food and converts it to points. You get xx number of points a day. They have books to look up the point value of the foods.

In the past I have failed at diets and WW because I have tried to cook two meals at dinner. One for me and one for my family. Since I don't always enjoy cooking the two meal plan works for about a week (if that long). This time around I am cooking one meal for everyone and measuring out what I have to count my points. If it is something...
...

I was caught off guard when the big box of Nutrisystem meals arrived for the first time about 8 months ago. However, skeptical me was really pleasantly surprised upon eating the first entree, Ravioli with meat sauce. It was good. Even better is the site offers chat and 1800 support 24/7 with no need to go weigh in. I don't have time to "weigh in" as other programs require. The plan focuses on relearning common sense eating. For me, it has been the answer that I needed as a busy mom with not much time to myself. This is a great program and way to get back on track.
...

Weight wathcers is a great way to loose weight without dieting. They give you a set number of points to use each day. That number is based on how much you weigh, your height, your gender, and your activity level. Every food has a point value, which is based on calories, fat, and fiber. Once you have your number of points for the day, you can eat what you want as long as you stay within your points. I found that buying some "diet" food or 100 calorie food helps to stay within the points. You can also gain extra points by exercising. I found that exercising and not using the extra points is a way to burn extra and see the lose on the scale that week.
...

aliv55 says "This works but its so stupid!" about Hollywood Cookie Diet

Now a days women (and men) will do anything to get thin. There are many deliciously healthy diets out there that you could try and this one isnt one of them! The only reason this diet works is because you are skipping two meals for 4 cookies which have about 150 calories a piece. Then you have to eat a healthy dinner and exercise. I consider this a waste of money and a cookie should never be a meal replacement! The cookies arnt making you loose wait, its the calorie restriction! you will loose the same about of weight if you exercise for atleast 30 minutes a day and follow a healthy eating plan such as the one i provided below:

breakfast: oatmeal made with skim milk and a pice of fruit

snack: a granola bar or string cheese

christinelalama says "Weight Watchers is the only program to teach me to eat right!" about Weight Watchers

In 2002 I was diagnosed with Invasive Breast Cancer. Through the course of my treatments, I gained much weight because of the steroids I had to take during chemotherapy. I decided to join online at first and I did very well. However, once I decided that I could do it myself, I discontinued the online service and over time, I gained the weight back. I kept reading up on going to meetings and the benefits of meetings versus online or trying to go at it alone. So I joined again. I found a place locally who hosted meetings and decided to give it a go. By going to the meetings, I did the best I ever did and 4 years later I kept the weight off. It left me with the tools to keep myself healthy. And what people need to understand is that Weight Watchers is a lifestyle change not a diet. It is the healthiest way to lose weight. You are supposed to lose 1 to 2 pounds per week. Anyone trying to do that faster, is doing more damage than good. I highly recommend Weight Watchers...
...

I joined WW after the birth of my first son. I lost nearly 30lbs! I have not been able to rejoin since the birth of my other children, BUT I have to say that if it were not for WW I would have had a much harder time with my weight before, during and after all of my children. It is because of weight watchers that even my bad food choices are not that bad AND my children are growing up learning how to eat better! I think that this is easy. I think that ANYONE can do this diet. There was a woman in one of my meetings that had lost 100lbs. No gastric bypass, no lapband. Just the support and encouragment that WW offers it members. One of the reasons it works is that it holds it members accountable in more than one way. First of all you have to pay. I dont know about you but if i am putting money towards something I am for sure going to give it my all. Secondly, you have to weight in. That is scarey I admit, but its not like everyone can see it or knows. The only one that sees it is the one person...
...

I started Weight Watchers online 2 months ago. I did the online because I do NOT want to go to meetings! Also I really don't think I would fit in at meetings, since I just wanted to loose 12 pounds. The plan is easy to follow. I log in and record what I eat as soon as I eat it. If I don't log in as soon as I eat then I seem to forget some things I eat! The points provide me with all I need to eat. I don't like the forums, the format is just not easy to follow. Also I find more recipes at recipezarr than I do at the Weighwatcher site. It is worth $16 a month to keep doing well. I have lost 2 pounds a week since I started.
...

I tried Weight Watchers for the first time five years ago. I successfully lost forty pounds. I kept it off for over two years. It is more of a lifestyle change than a diet. It allows you to eat whatever you want, but in moderate portions. It teaches you to make healthier choices and how to learn portion control. Like any other way of eating, it only works when you stick to it. Over the last couple of years, I have gained weight due to going back to my old eating habits. I have since started the program again and am down nine pounds so far. I highly recommend this weight loss program for anyone. It is also great for heart patients and diabetic-friendly as well.
...

After trying to lose weight for the last thirty years, I have found that the best way is to get away from the kitchen table. I started by eating smaller portions, and not going back for seconds. That helped, so I added parking a little farther from the store, and having to take even a few more steps a day also helps. I can,t say that I do not eat the occasional piece of chocolate, or that I eat everything that is healthy for me, but I find myself eating more fruits and vegatables , than I used to. The last time I went to my doctor, she said that I lost 10 pounds. That was in a months time. I feel alot better, and my clothes fit a little looser, so I will try to keep up the good work. I have tried to do several diets, and not one of them worked for me. There are so many different things on todays market, I wouldn,t know what to try, if I wanted to, so I guess that I am going to stick to what works for me.
...

I think the hardest part of this program isn't shedding the pounds, or trying to pick out a new wardrobe... but staying committed once you get to where you want to be. It's hard to stay focused when you are the size you want to be. I think that WW could do a better job of supporting their lifetimers. The system is set up great for people that are looking to lose, but once you get down to your goal a lot of the tools they have created don't necessarily apply to you anymore which is why I think a lot of people fall off and have to come back. For all the revenue they are bringing in, working better with restaurants would be ideal for me because I often don't have time to plan and make a meal.
...

AngiBowman says "Change Your Life with WW" about Weight Watchers

I know what it's like to be the "big" girl. You know, the one with the pretty face and nothing else. If you can relate, it's okay! Weight Watchers is here to help.

What Is It?

Weight Watchers (WW) is a "diet" program that encourages lifestyle changes and attitude changse. No, diets don't work. No, this isn't a quick fix. However, it works. If you stick with this program, it's going to work.

How It Works

Everything you eat has a point value to it. You are given a point value, adjusted for your weight and height. You also have a pot of extra points you can use in a week. So, you may have 30 points to use each day, but if you slip up - it's okay! You can use the "pot" of 30 more points for the week to cover any differences.

The program works in 3 ways:

1) Meetings only
2) Online only
3) Meetings + Online

Everything is dependant on what YOU need to change your life.

The Pros

The best thing about this program is that it's real. You're going to have off days. You may even have terrible days. It's...
...

I bought the 10 day cleanse "Acai Berry", it came in two bottles. I finished the 1st bottle and did not experience anything positive at all. As a matter of fact, I got constipated for 3 days, while I had a regular VM before taking this product. The 4th day I thought I would need to see a doctor since I had no urge at all to have a VM. I forced myself to go. This product is a SCAM and I wish I could return the rest. Total waste of my money. All the good reviews I've seen and gross pictures of their VM, I just don't believe it now. I think it's just for advertisement. It works though because I bought this product, to find out that it's not for real. This "ACAI BERRY CLEANSE" does not work. Don't be a victim!! All I lost was my money. The weight loss, more energy that they talked about, NON EXISTENT!

What surprised me the most, I bought this at COSTCO and I am dissapointed that they would carry a product that doesn't work. At least I don't have to worry about my card being charged if I bought...
...

If anybody remembers Dr. Herman Tarnower, it's probobably because of the scandal when Jean Harris - the well respected Head Mistress of one of the country's most elite Private Schools - drove to his house, shot him six times and then said she was trying to commit suicide.

But in 1979 he was a private cardiologist who used his experience in cardiology to write The Scarsdale Diet. Within a month of the book's publication it was a best seller.

It promised that you could eat healthy meals, never feel hunger pangs and still lose up to twenty pounds a week. It sure promised a lot but guess what, it delivered.

It was easy to follow because there was a menu for every meal for fourteen days. You knew exactly what to shop for, how to prepare it and what time of day to eat it. It was a two week on/two week off rotation.

It eliminated most carbohydrates but there were daily exceptions for limited amounts of bread and fruit. The Scarsdale Diet was high protein and very little fat. You could eat unlimited...
...

psychgrl01 says "Weight Watchers is a lifestyle change, not a diet!" about Weight Watchers

Weight Watchers is a wonderful lifestyle changing eating system! I have joined Weight Watchers several times (I have had to rejoin due to my own lack of sticking to the program -- no reflection on the actual Weight Watchers program itself!) and have chosen to do both the in person meetings as well as Weight Watchers online. Both are great. In retrospect, I feel that the in person meetings worked the very best for me because I knew that I had a supportive group of people struggling with the same sorts of issues I was who I could check in with each week. I also knew I was going to be weighed and needed to be accountable to that scale! My leader, Jill, was also really wonderful. She did not criticize if I had a less than stellar week but instead focused on what I did well (even if it was just going to the meeting!) and what I could do for the next week. I am currently a member of Weight Watchers online, and I do enjoy it. It gives me all of the tools I need in a handy, online delivery format....
...

hornedfrogmedic says "I lost 10 lbs in 4 days, but weight comes right back!" about The Master Cleanse Program

Ok, the physician that I worked for who practices "integrative medicine" (a cross between traditional western medicine and alternative medicine) suggested that I try the master cleanse (lemonade) diet. I googled the diet to find out the details. I purchased the necessary ingredients (lemons, cayenne pepper, maple syrup and some laxative tea). First of all, the syrup from a health food store cost me about $70.00 which I wasn't expecting. A girl who worked in the same office agreed to split the cost and do the program with me. She lasted only about 6 hours before giving up (this is not an easy thing to stick to when you have a bunch of people around you eating tempting food). Trying very hard to have will power, I made it 7 days throught the cleanse. I did indeed lose about 12 lbs, but it wasn't long before it came right back..Also, I failed to follow the part of the cleanse that advises you to ease back into eating regular foods. I became extremely tachycardic (very fast pulse rate). My...
...

laurad12 says "something you should try!" about Weight Watchers

well, i was definately skeptical of this site and the easy way of how the program works! i thought it was just another bogus product making bogus promises to the consumers that bought weight wathcers products, etc. After seeing my friend who has been big all of her life and choosing to go on this diet plan with weight watchers and how much fun she was having. Yes, fun!! My friend has said this program has helped her immensly and it does not even feel like a diet, more of a way of life! Since i have seen her weight drop immensly in numbers and how easy it looks, i, myself have decided to join weight watchers!!! it is so easy and gives you so much satisfaction to know you are doing something to help you and your future. You should definately try it! it is easy to count points and the food is fairly cheap so you do not have to worry about spending a lot of money, even though this program works beyond what i ever thought it would!
...
