TxasMom says "Imitrex works great." about Imitrex

Imitrex works great for migraines and auras. The only exception is the pain in my jaws after about 10 mins of taking the medicine. I can deal with that pain because it goes away about the same time the migraine does. The nasal spray works great too, just is bad tasting. I would only recommend the spray if you were out on the go and could not lay down to get rid of the migraine, because the tastes lasts for a while. I would normally get a chocolate bar and eat it slowly to help drown out the taste. I recommend Imitrex to anyone suffering from auras and/or...

TxasMom says "Better than Imitrex for my migraines and auras." about Topamax

My doc recommended Topamax to me to get rid of the follow-up headaches that I normally get after the migraine attacks. It seems to be working well so far and I do not get the pain in my jaws, that lasts for 30 mins., like after taking an Imitrex. It also works for the auras I get often. Normally with Imitrex I would have to take a tylenol or two afterwards to get a hold of the headaches that follow the migraine. Now only one or two of Topamax and shortly the migraine is...

nightengale36 says "Relpax takes away my migraine with no rebound later in the day." about Relpax

I have suffered from migraines for many years, and been on several different medications for them. I was on Imitrex for quite a bit of that time, and then it started not working for me. I would get "rebound" headaches a few hours or later in the day after I took the medication. At that time I was still working as a nurse, so this was not something that was good for me, so my neurologist started me on Relpax. It is the same type of medicine as Imitrex, but works better for me. It maybe takes a little bit longer to start working (maybe anywhere from 30min.-1 hour, depending on how soon I take one when I feel the headache coming on), but the headaches do not come back, so to me that is better. And, I do not feel any chest pain or tightness like I usually did with Imitrex. So, for me, Relpax has been a much better choice to help when I get a migraine....

psherman says "I will never take Topamax again." about Topamax

My doctor prescribed Topamax because I was getting terrible migraines and also needed to lose some extra weight. Topamax was great at controlling migraines but I hated the side effects. I found myself forgetting how to say the simplest of words. As a graduate student, this was embarrassing in class when I had to do presentations. I could look at a word, know what it meant but completely forget the pronunciation and these were easy words like "absolutely" and "realistic". I became very forgetful and depressed. It did help me lose weight. I lost about twenty pounds in the month I was taking it. I think part of the reason is it made carbonated beverages taste metallic so I quit drinking sodas. It also made my appetite disappear. However, when I quit taking it, I gained the weight back and then some. — —...

Warning for all. My 17 year old daughter was given this medication in February 2008 to help in the prevention of her migraines. In a couple of days her entire personality changed, she was rude to us, shut herself in her room and all her mostly A's took a nose dive at school. After about two weeks of this behavior I took her to a family therapist we had used in the past because I didn't know what was wrong with her. After six weeks of being on Neurotin she went to school, while in class she asked her teacher to go to the counselors. She then told the counselor that she had been having strange thoughts and some were suicidal thoughts and almost slit her throat in our kitchen while my husband and I slept. The school called and I decided to do a check on Neurotin, and it was after she started the medication that they posted this side effect. It was a good thing she happen to have an appointment that day with her neurologist to see how she was doing...

I was taken off my old drug and put on this on because of memory loss, memory loss is still there with this drug but not compared to the other drug I was on. This controls my seizures with 2 pills a day instead of 6 or 7 of my other ones and Topamax also helps my headaches. I have also lost almost a much needed 40 lbs! — — — —...

I've been taking Topamax 50mg 2x a day since June 2007 and it has helped the intesity of my migraines. A great side effect of the medicine is that I have lost almost 20 pounds. I am very careful in making sure what other meds I take inconjunction with it so I don't mix. Sometimes my concentration is a little off or slow but it's not too bad to stop taking the meds and risk having worse migraines. My family has a history of migraines and so I see a neurologist and a chiropractor to help keep an eye on everything. The chiropractor has really helped with the intensity as well. Between the meds and the chiropractor I've gone from about 9 a month to about 4 and the intensity has gone from 8 to about 4. So, I would definite reccommend this medicine. — ...

ScaredFox says "The side effects were not worth it for me" about Topamax

I tried topamax for head pain and the posibility that it might get rid of extra spinal fluid around my brain (wich is why I have the chronic headaches). Topamax is also known to be a type of dieretic. All it did was make spacey, very tired, and weak. — I agree I've heard great things about it helping migraines, but if your head pain is from a different problem, it won't work very well, or not at all in my case. It didn't do either thing, get rid of fluid or help my pain. — I took it a second time 1 year later, to help my anxiety because it really works well at meelowing you out, although I experienced different side effects this time. — I couldn't handle the tingling in my hands. I could barely hold a coffee cup anymore after a month of being on it..and at only 80 mg. — The first time I took it I went up to 200 mg which gave me hallucinations and panic atacks. — The second time I wasn't on a high enough dose for this to happen.
cinders405 says "Imitrex has controled my migraines" about Imitrex

I have suffered migraines for years. Which often sent me to bed in a darken room, when I wasn't in the bathroom sick to my stomach. Imitrex has help keep the headaches under control. Imitrex works I believe by narrowing the blood vessels around the brain. It should be taken soon as symptoms of migraine begin. The symptoms such as pain, nausea, sensitivity to light, sounds and smells are greatly reduced or relieved. For me I often have relief of symptoms in 20-30 minutes. You can take another tablet or I think it also comes in nasal spray in 2 hours. I have less work since taking Imitrex. Imitrex can not be take if pregnant as it does passes through the placenta. As with any drugs there are side effects and risks involved discuss with your doctor any heart, liver, bowel disease you may have. Your pharmacist can answer any further questions you have on side effects....

Ashleyeric says "Great product" about Imitrex

I have been suffering from Migraines since I was 17 and they have continued to get worse over the past few years.I went to the doctor and told him that I was suffering from Migraines and he told me about Imitrex. He said to take it right when you feel the pain and lay down for about an hour.So when I started to get one I took the Imitrex and layed down and after about 15 to 30 minutes the migraine was gone. The only side effects I have had while taking the Imitrex is that when it starts to work it sends a burning sensation through my head and face but I don't mind it at all and that is what lets me know that it is working like it should. Everyone does not experiment this but I am glad I do.Another bad effect is that its bad for your heart. While taking any Migraine medicine I have heard that it is best to take another medicine to help reduce the amount of Migraines that you have. That way you don't have to take so many of the Imitrex. Since taking the Imitrex I love it.It helps when it...

eneumyer72 says "benefits outweigh the risks" about Topamax

I was prescribed this a couple years ago, for unexplained 15 second headaches. They would come, and 15 seconds later, I would be fine. But those 15 seconds were a killer. I was prescribed 25mg twice daily, I took that for a week. It made me tired, it made me have a loss of words, and it made me feel tingely all over. BUT it made my headaches go away. So I took it upon myself to lower my dose, and it still helped my headaches, AND all the effects went away. I took it for about two years, then I went off of it because I became pregnant and it's not recommended to take while on birth control pills or while pregnant. I have never gone back on them. If I ever get one of those headaches again, I know what to ask the doctor for....

I have been suffering from what had been diagnosed as "tension headaches" for years, with no relief in sight!! It had gotten to the point where I could not go a day without having a headache, making life in general really hard for me. — My doctor prescribed several different medications, none of them working until we found Topamax. I swear, it has been a small miracle for me!! I am finally able to go for days, even weeks without even the slightest sign of a headache. Now I am able to enjoy my life again and feel "normal", not having to worry about messing up my stomach with pain-killers. — The bonus part of Topamax, is one of the side effects are weight loss. I am currently on an exercise plan, but I definitely think the Topamax helps keep my weight loss in line. — If you are a headache sufferer, I recommend talking to your doctor about this medication.
When my neurologist suggested Topamax, I was almost completely out of options with my migraines. They were getting worse and worse--hitting me every few days. I was at a point where I have tried so many other options; I really didn't think that the Topamax would work for me. However, it did. Topamax has been amazing so far. I am having far fewer migraines. The side effects (for me) are minimal. I have mild tingling in my feet every once in awhile, but it is nothing that really bothers me at all. Additionally, I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly it began to work on my migraines. I have found that Topamax is a really practical option for people suffering from...
