stowegirl2003 says "Metformin controls the insulin resistance from my PCOS well." about Metformin Oral Diabetes Medicine

I am a 31 year-old woman suffering from Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. For those of you who aren't aware of this awful disease, it causes problems with Insulin overproduction and resistance that can result in infertility, diabetes and heart disease. In recent years, doctors have begun using Metformin to manage insulin resistance in PCOS. I have been taking 2,000mg per day for several years, now. While I did have some problems with diarrhea in the beginning, (switching to the extended release version relieved this), I have found this medication to be very effective. Since taking it, I have lost some weight, my energy has increased and without the detriment to my reproductive system that excess insulin causes, my menstrual cycle has returned to normal. I cannot say enough good things about this product for the treatment of PCOS. I would highly recommend it to anyone going through what I've gone through.
...

EarningReviews says "For your Diabetes Care" about Levemir Levemir

For everyone, who has to deal with a 150-160 blood sugar in the morning and has to suffer all day long with metformin and actos to lower it down;
Taking also into consideration that I was on Actos 45 mg for some years suffering swollen face and legs; And also that I maybe was in a turmoil of decluttering my house and doing a lot of physical effort.
I can tell you that Levemir Pharms might be a factor for you to consider.

Levemir lowered my blood sugar down low very efficiently since the first time,

I for real hope that it will continue to let me wake up in the morning to 95-100 blood sugar.

I have followed the appropriate diet and have been doing a lot of excercises, up to the point that my doctor has already cut the Levemir down to 1 mg a day.

It's doing its job too well. I have lost more than 20 pounds, and feel myself very well.

It definitely is a wonderdrug, and I love it !!!
...

lorihall2861 says "Has already started to bring my sugar down!" about Glipizide Diabetes medication

I was diagnosed with Diabetes On October 1 and thought I wasn't going to have to go on medication but was wrong. When my sugar continued to rise I was immediately placed on medication. They at first wanted to put me on another medication but I was told by my mother who is diabetic not to take it and was placed on Glipizide.

Upon reading the side affects I was concerned about taking this medication, but when it has already started to reduce my blood glucose level I am a happy camper.

One 5mg tablet in the morning with breakfast is my dose for the day. I was told this medication can be hard on your stomach, but I have had no problems yet. Maybe because I followed the pharmacists instructions of taking with food.

I am shocked that a medication can work so quickly. My level was over 200 and is now down to 134. I am hoping to continue to go lower in the next week. I would be really happy with 100 at this point.

This is a power packed little pill! Wow! Thank you for technology!
...

It is used in patients with Type 2 diabetes (non-insulin-dependent diabetes). It works by stimulating the release of your body's natural insulin as produced by the liver.

Effectively controlling high blood sugar helps prevent heart disease, strokes, kidney disease, blindness, and circulation problems, as well as sexual function problems (impotence). My medication comes in the form of a 5MG tablet that I take...
...

lacie611 says "works well without much weight gain" about Eli Lilly Humalog

I am diabetic and have found that when you are diabetic that even though pills like medformin do work for some people there are a lot of side effects that effect your life.

It was that the side effects interupted my life too much and I kept getting sick so one day I went to my doctor and said I have had it with the pills give me a better alternative.

I was kind of taken aback that he did not want to put me on insulin mainly because of the fact I was affraid of needles. I am still afraid of needles, or as the medical community calls them syringes. I will tell you that shots are not pain less.

But the pain of being sick and weak caused by diabetes and by the pills offering only more complications and unmanagable side effects. I decided to request that we give insulin a try

I have tried many insulins, the one I have found the best results and the more advantages I have I have added more quality to my life. Fewer sick days sometimes I can almost forget I am diabetic. Insulin has...
...

I have been diabetic for almost 25 years. I have experiened all of the "new" products. This is the first time that I have been able to have a schedule like a "normal" person. Humalog Insulin is quick acting. It does not have the peaks like the regular insulin does. I take the Humalog 5 minutes prior to eating and can adjust it according to what I am going to be eating at that time. With the typical working mothers schedule it has become next to impossible to plan a time to eat. Anyone with children can sympathize with this thought. The best laid plans....... The second benefit that I have found with the Humalog Insulin is that you can finally take care of high blood sugars immediately. When you have the occasional high blood sugar it only takes 5 minutes to start feeling the benefits of the insulin versus the 30 - 45 minutes that it previously took. And because of this quicker time frame, you can be alot more accurate. Rather than guessing and ending up on the pendulum...
...

jamz says "helps keep diabetes under control but sometimes inconvienent" about Byetta

My husband was diagnosed with diabetes several years ago. He has been on Byetta a couple of years now. He uses in combination with another diabetes medication and the combination has kept his diabetes under control. Intially, he had a little weight loss which was a very good thing, however, that was a very temporary situation. I understand many people do lose weight and keep it off on this medication. The fact that it is a medication that is injected makes it somewhat inconvenient, especially when traveling. It is also inconvenient that it must be refrigerated. The medication does work well though and that is what is so important. It is relatively painless, however, he does get some occasional brusing. His doctor also recommended he takes the shot about ten minutes before he eats and sometimes he forgets to take it until after he eats but it hasn't seemed cause any adverse problems.
...

This is a review on my experience with a new form of Diabetes medication that I have been using now for the past year. The new medicine for me is 2.5 mg of Gilizide it is a little blue pill that has great lasting power and delivers a big one, two punch in controlling your Diabetes. I was at one time on Glucophage and then it was switched to the generic of Metformin you know the ones with the 1000 mg horse tablets you were supposed to take twice a day. I could never remember to take them the second time so I just took them all at once in the morning. If you do it this way make sure you tell your Dr so that they can prescribe the doeses the way you actually take them, that makes a big difference in how it works with your body too. When I was switched to Gliizide it is actually easier on my kidneys (why doesnt the apostrophe work for this review?, brings up quick find links only). Plus the smaller pill size is a lot easier to swallow, works a lot better with my system I have between 70-110...
...

I had heard so many people say that this was a nasty medicine; it stops working in six months; can increase your appetite, and much more. Due to those types of reactions I was resistant to the idea at first when it was suggested that I give it a try. Since teh Januvia did not agree with me and my blood sugars were still high and climbing my doctor placed me on Lantus at night and it still wasn't helping like we needed it to. I went in for a checkup on how the Lantus was working and the doctor was going to up the dosage but I asked if I could try the Byetta instead and she said yes, that it was actually a very good medicine and might work very well for me. I left the office knowing I was going to switch to the Byetta when my Lantus pen was gone. Thankgiving day 2008 is when I started the Byetta and I have never looked back since. I went through the normal period of nausea with lack of appetite but my blood sugars were doing awesome!

majikme says "Never again" about JANUVIA

When my blood sugars starting going up and causing more problems last year my doctor thought to put me on Januvia and I said ok let's try it. Boy, was that a big mistake for me to have agreed to. I got so sick from that medicine that I dropped 30 pounds in a month and half due not eating. My doctor had to finally take me off of this medicine when I told her I couldn't handle the sickness, no appetite, nausea and the fact my blood sugars weren't coming down at all anyways. We ended up choosing a different medicine that helped for a while and we then had to take more drastic measures later on.

I realize that my reaction to this medicine is not neccessarily normal and that everyone is different but for me it was a bad decision and has definitely colored my willingness to jump at trying newer medicines for my diabetes. For all those who are on this medicine and it is working, I am happy that it's working for you and I hope you continue to have good control of your blood sugars through this...
...

I recently was diagnosed with Type I diabetes mellitus (less than 6 months ago). My dad is also a Type I diabetic so I was already fairly familiar with the disease but I quickly realized I had a lot more to learn when I was diagnosed myself. My doctor prescribed Novolog, a rapid-acting insulin. I use this insulin to correct high blood sugar levels and to cover me before I eat any meas.

I started off with high doses becuase I didn't have a good basal rate insulin with my long-acting insulin yet. When I finally found the right dosage for my long-acting insulin, my Novolog doses were easier to get right. It can still very much be a guessing game, especially if I am eating out or at a dinner elsewhere and I don't know exactly how many carbs are in the meal. Overall though, I love Novolog and have been able to keep my diabetes in check using this great medication.

I highly recommend the Novolog pen if you can afford it. Most insurance companies will cover a good chunk of the cost but it...
...

My dad is also a Type I diabetic so I was already fairly familiar with the disease but I quickly realized I had a lot more to learn when I was diagnosed myself. My doctor immediately prescribed Levemir, a long acting insulin. This insulin lasts for 24 hours and helps maintain your basal insulin amount.

I started off with a pretty low dosage amount (only 6 units) and my doctor had me calling into the office once a week with updates on my sugar levels. I struggled a bit at first because this small dose wasn't enough. He slowly increased my dosage every 2 weeks until I finally hit the level that I needed. Now my diabetes is under much better control becuase of this great medicine. Levemir has helped me achieve very steady glucose levels throughout the entire day. I no longer have to deal with the wide swings of highs and lows like I did when I first started on the medication.
