first of all, let me just say, thank goodness for hydrocodone and other strong pain killers like it!!! i could not live without them!!! i have chronic back pain and i would not be able to hold down a job if i didn't have a strong pain medication like hydrocodone. i do not suffer any negative side effects from it that other people have reported such as constipation, nasuea, headaches, dry mouth, etc. i get a little dizzy from it sometimes, but this is no big deal. hydrocodone is well worth the money and time and effort it takes to get it. doctors are sometimes hesitant to prescribe strong, possibly addictive painkillers, but if you have chronic pain, don't give up. you can find a doctor who will give it to you eventually and you will be so glad when you do. even on my worst pain days, hydrocodone helps me out immensly. and it works quite fast too. besides pain relief, it also makes you just feel good in general.
...

Sammyantha81 says "All pain, no gain" about Clinoril Anti-inflamatory

I have suffered from back pain for the last nine years...as a chronic sufferer, I have been through a gamut of drugs. Sulindac offered no relief. I was on it for six weeks, hoping it would kick in. The doctors told me to 'give it time' and the more insistant I became that it offered no relief, the more they insisted I stay on it.

A couple weeks after stopping it (with no change in effectiveness), I was told it was molecularly similar to Flexeril (which didn't work either).

I can only report my own experiences. But I can give you the same schpeel I usually do. That is, consult your physician, do your research and always do a cost benefit analysis of any medication that you are considering.

I have to be a guinea pig, and sit through trial and error. I hope no one reading this has to do the same.

Be persistent and persever, make sure your doctors hear what you have to say...if they do not listen find another one.
...

I have had fibromyalgia for many years now and constantly hope for a medication that will really work to provide pain relief. One of the many drugs that I have tried is Flexeril Muscle Relaxer - Generic Name: Cyclobenzaprine.

Flexeril is a prescription medication that actually acts as a muscle relaxer but it also provides relief from pain sensation. For me it is not necessarily a matter of muscles tensing, though they do that the more pain I am in, it is the "blocking" of pain that is most effective on Fibromyalgia.

The good news is that Flexeril is not habit forming and that it does provide me with relief. Sometimes a lot of pain relief, sometimes a little, and sometimes just enough to keep going. The bad news is that while I can stay "going" after taking Flexeril eventually I have to crash and burn and will end up sleeping for hours. I am just one of those people it affects that way.

I take this medication infrequently and Flexeril provides me with the relief I need, to get...
...

I've been in Pain Management for five years due to tarlov cyst disease; herniations and arthritis of my spine and although my neurologist has me on narcotics during the day for chronic pain, I still wake up every night suffering. The pain literally wakes me up and I have to move around and take a warm bath to ease it. My doctor prescribed me with this medication "Flexeril" in hopes that I might able to get a good, solid night of rest. I was able to do this as long as I took the medication right before I went to bed each night but my problem with this drug is that you wake up still sleepy and groggy. Personally, I can't stand walking around in the ozone and not thinking clearly. Ironically, I was always against any type of drug all of my life and now I find myself in a position where I cannot move in the morning unless I have a narcotic in my system. I want to be fully aware and functioning. This drug just doesn't do it for me. Now the doctor is trying injections to help...
...

TimothyL says "Injectible cortisone is painful and didn't help my pain at all." about Celestone Cortisone injection

Cortisone epidural (given to the spine) is usually given in a doctor's office, as treatment for patients with back injuries and back pain. I was told it was a series of at least 3 shots at different times, and at each visit, I should have a driver since it would put me out. The first shot may not help, but subsequent shots would as the medication is a steroid used to reduce inflammation and swelling at the site of injury.

It was no help in relieving my pain whatsoever. It also hurt worse than the pain itself, as it wasn't just the injection, it was the release of the medication, and the flushing of proteins (I believe he said cytokines) out of the area. I had 2 shots at different times, and both times left me crying in agony. I thought it would be better after the initial pain subsided but it wasn't. I still hurt as bad as I had before the injection. I couldn't go through the last shot, or another series of them, since it also lowered my immune system (like prednisone) and...
...

I am currently on Suboxone (buprenorphine) for pain in my lower back due to scoliosis and a pinched nerve as well as for the pain in my lower left leg and foot. Though Suboxone is usually prescribed for the treatment of opioid dependency it can also be used as a strong pain relief medication. I was like many others, I have tried most of the really strong opiates, (ex. oxycodone, morphine, etc.) and found that even though it did give me some relief it was also giving me something else I did not ask for nor want; DEPENDENCY TO OPIATES!! One day I was talking to my doctor and he introduced me to a new medication called Suboxone. I had my doubts about this medication. I mean isn't this just replacing one opioid for another? Well to that question the answer is no.Suboxone has been a blessing to me. It helps me live a normal life once again. Yes I will always have some sort of pain but with the correct use of suboxone, I am finally getting the relief I have longed for. Suboxone is partial opioid...
...

A recent flare-up, of an old back injury, sent me to the ER. Flexeril was a great answer, at first. It took care of the pain and muscle spasms (that are compounded by my Cerebral Palsy). But after a short period of interment use, Flexeril no longer helped my back pain and spasms. I have built a tolerance to it, and I am now searching for another drug for long-term pain management. Flexeril is not the answer, at least not for me...and perhaps not for you, if you are looking for medium to long-term treatment or management of your pain and/or muscle spasms. Depending on your circumstances and prognosis, you may want to ask your doctor about possible issues with building a tolerance to Flexeril and its effectiveness over time.* But in my experience, I would say Flexeril is only good for breaking the initial flare-up and not long-term use. But, again I am not a doctor and I can only speak from my experiences. Consult your physician.

* My CP may also complicate matters.
...

I have been taking Soma for about twenty five years. I take it for muscle spasms in my lower back. I was hit by a car while crossing the street, and a drunk driver hit me. I could not walk for two weeks while in the hospital. The spasms are very painful and cause me to walk hunched over. I can not function at home or at work unless I take the Soma. The cons of taking Soma are few. It causes drowsiness and you can not drink alcohol while taking it. It can be habit forming. It is not recommended that you drive while using Soma. I have not experienced any of these side effects and I am able to be employed when taking this medication. It can not be taken when you are pregnant or if you are nursing. I think the pros outweigh the cons with this medication. If you experience painful spasms anywhere in your body, I recommend you contact your doctor and discuss this with him or her. All in all, I think this is a great medication for muscle spasms!
...

There are times when I would be unable to move if it weren't for Flexeril. This muscle relaxant is, by far, one of the most effective medications that I have ever taken. Flexeril works by blocking nerve impulses (or pain sensations) that are sent to your brain. Taking Flexeril enables my body to relax and stop tensing up, which in itself is an effective way in relieving pain.

Flexeril is available by prescription only, and it is NON HABIT FORMING. It is not a medication I take every day, only when I need it. It makes me extrememly tired, however, and it isn't something I can take if I will be active or driving. Mainly I take it at night, a few hours before bedtime. It will make you groggy in the morning until your body has become accustomed to it. I've found that drinking caffeine is the best way to shake the groggy feeling.

NEVER TAKE FLEXERIL UNLESS IT HAS BEEN PRESCRIBED SPECIFICALLY FOR YOU. It is illegal to share prescriptions and can be extremely dangerous. Speak...
...

I was placed on Vicodin or hydrocodone after having several teeth extracted. It really helped with the pain. I did find that it caused nause but taking it with food helped. The medication is a combination of acetaminaphin - tylenol - and hydrocodone. Together they work in sync to relieve pain. Taken in higher doses than prescribed tylenol can be very damaging to the liver and some studies suggest that even in smaller dosages it can be harmful. I wouldn't want to be on hydrocodone on a long term basis but for the dental work it really helped....

These SalonPas-HOT patches were a gift from my kind hubby, who sees me suffer with my chonic back and neck pain daily. Always in search of a non-opoid pain releif method, he is willing to research items himself and share what he finds with me. Quite often, we hit the jackpot. This is one of those products. The large size covers my entire lower back - the painful area. Especially effective post-injection/nerveblock. I would not recommend the patch for a hairy area. I am sure you can imagine why! :)
I always keep some on hand - you never know when things will flare up, especially when you are away from home, at work, in a meeting etc. Best thing is that there is no "locker room" scent of menthol, wintergreen, or cinnamon.
I found mine at CVS - they were on a bottom shelf.
...

A couple of months ago, I was playing baseball with my two boys in the backyard. At some point during the game, I must have either swung the bat too hard or threw the ball wrong because the next day and everyday since, I have had terrible pain in my neck and shoulder. I went to the doctor and although we don't yet know what is wrong, he recommended Ibuprofen for inflammation and Hydrocodone 5MG/500MG Pain Reliever for the pain. The Ibuprofen did its job but I wasn't very impressed with the Hydrocodone/Acetaminophen.

About Hydrocodone/Acetaminophen

According to Drugs.com, Hydrocodone (also known as Lortab) is in a group of drugs called narcotic pain relievers and Acetaminophen is a less potent pain reliever that increases the effects of Hydrocodone. The combination of Hydrocodone and acetaminophen is used to relieve moderate to severe pain.

After a major roll over accident in 94 I had the unfortunate need for pain medications. I have been taking Loratab for almost 18 years now, I guess I am somewhat of an expert in how it works. Up until about 8 months ago I was taking them on a regular basis of about 2 or 3 a day in the 7.5mg strength. Which is 500mg of Acetaminophen and 7.5mg of Hydrocodone. The mixing of the acetaminophen with it allows the hydrocodone to work better than if it were by itself.

Hydrocodone

Hydrocodome is derived from codeine and thebain and are opiates which means they originally comes from opium. It is for moderate to severe pain and when mixed with the acetaminophen works pretty good. The big problem is people get addicted to it very easily as they want to keep the euphoric feeling they get from it. I have been scared of getting addicted but have gone weeks without taking one just to make sure I don't.

Eight months ago my Dr. lowered the number of Loratabs he gives me a month and I now wear a Fentanyl......
