Smartblondi says "Advair Diskus helps me "forget" about my asthma" about Advair Diskus

My doctor switched me to the Advair Diskus recently and also provided a free sample and some great coupons. Once I tried it and incorporated it into my daily routine (I use it twice a day), my asthma no longer becomes something to worry about. I will have occasional bouts of chest tightness but the difference is clear!

Another suggestion is to sign up with company to receive email and snail mail alerts. I have gotten several coupons that made my diskus FREE after coupon and more that made it only $15. They do stop sending them after a few months but my doctor has been very generous in giving me more coupons and samples.

Overall - I really like this medicine and it is the easiest that I have used in the 20+ years I have been diagnosed with asthma. I highly recommend it for its easy use and (for me) symptom reducing effect.
...

as most people hate to take medicine, i am one of those. i was having hard time breathing all the time, couldn't een play with the kids, so decided to finally go to the doctors. When i went she told me that i had astma. that explained a lot to me. so i asked what could i do, she told me to take this madicine, advair, twice daily to help coontrol my astma and to keep my inhaler with me incase of a sudden attack. i took advair about a week before i started noticing that i wasn't out of breath any more i could play with my kids with out stopping all the time. it has been 3 years since i started taking advair for my astma. in the time since i started taking it i have only had two sudden astma attacks, in which i had to take my rescue inhaler. i can do just about anything, i don't have to rest every 5 minutes any more to catch y breath, my chest doesn't feel heavy, i can go to the park with my kids and chase them all over, i don't have to stop.
...

cryptsmell says "Awful, wish I could still get albuterol" about ProAir HFA Asthma Inhaler

I used to have a prescription for an Albuterol inhaler which worked very well to keep my asthma under control when I needed it for relief. Well, they stopped making albuterol inhalers because the cannisters were bad for the environment or something like that. The substitute I was given is ProAir. I HATE ProAir. Most of the time the spray doesn't come out of the canister correctly, the taste of it is disgusting, and I don't feel like I really get the medicine down into my lungs the way I should be able to. It also doesn't help me feel better right away like the Albuterol used to.

Please, Albuterol, find a way to make an environmentally safe product because the consumers needs you back!

Also with my Blue Cross insurance, I could get my Albuterol inhaler for under $10. Pro Air is a name brand product so I am paying $25 per prescription. It adds up.
...

I received two sample products of Advair from my doctor, who said that by using Advair it would replace the two Asthma meds I using now-- Asmanex and Severvent Diskus. What my doctor didn't tell me was that Advair has a side effects like losing your voice and not being able to talk. I called my doctor's office in a very low and squeeky voice and told the office nurse what happened, the only advise I was given was to stop using Advair and to drink lots of fluids--juice, etc. On my next visit to my doctor, I returned the unopened Advair unit that I didn't use. He told me that 1 in 5 people cannot use Advair. I guess that's me. Too bad, because Advair was inexpensive. So now, I back on Asmanex and Severvent Diskus.
...

Boy, it's nice not to worry about where your next breath's coming from!

After going through various inhalers, Singulair, and other products, my doctor gave me a sample of the powder inhaler in the purple disk -- Advair Diskus 250. The 250 refers to 250 mcg fluticasone propionate (also found in the drug Flovent) and 50 mcg salmeterol inhalation powder (found in the older drug Serevent). Advair also comes in 150 and 500 dosages. Inhalations are recommended at 12 hour intervals (one each time) for any of these packs.

As a Tender Flower, I find that the nightly inhalation is often enough for the 24-hour period. I reactly strongly to medication, but I also have my worst asthma at nighttime and dawn. Either or both of those things may account for one inhalation being enough. I know my body pretty well. (If the wind's blowing, I inhale twice a day as directed.)

My needs may also be modified because of the trusty air purifiers in my office and bedroom. (See www.viewpoints.com/Honeywell-Air-Purifier-QuietCare-Air-Cleaner-17000-HEPA-review-f03e2...
...

Ever since a disastrous attack of what the folks at the local E.R. termed "Viral Asthma" back in 1995, I have coped with a low-grade form of asthma (I don't turn blue or stop breathing) which cannot be cured but may be controlled. Dust mites, I suspect, are a major culprit as I have noticed that I never cough or wheeze at the doctor's office or any other place where somebody steams the carpets and dusts as much as they should. Stress also is a major player -- having to rush around trying to locate the house keys before I leave my condo can reduce me to swearing (and coughing) in no time. Normally, I just cope with all this but my wheezing (which I never notice) concerns my cousin, TunefulGal, who insisted that I bring an inhaler with me when I visited L.A. this year, during the height of the allergy season. I asked Dr. Forbes for a prescription for this type of device and -- after a disastrous "breathing test" which did not look good for me -- she agreed and prescribed for me the...
...

2 of my children has asthma and they have to use a varity of medicanes. One of the medicanes is the ProAir HFA inhaler. This is a genric brand for the albuterol inhaler and now the only kind my children can use because the name brands are bad for the air we breathe. The ProAir has really worked for my children to help with thier asthma attacks. If you have an asthma attack you take the ProAir every 3 to 4 hours to get the attack under control. The first thing you have to do is shake the canister very good than spray in your mouth with your head straight and hold the spray in your mouth for 10 counts than spray again and do the same thing hold for 10 counts.wash the canister very good and let dry.always keep it very clean.after you take the medicane make sure you rinse your mouth out .The ProAir does not contain any chlorofluorocarbons(CFC'S). the ProAir does contain 108mcg albuterol sulfate, equivalent to 90mcg albuterol from the mouthpiece.I reccomend the ProAir to any one with asthma to try...
...

This is the best medication I have ever run into besides my lovely albuterol inhalers. Xolair is for individuals who suffer from not only asthma but from allergic types of asthma also. It is only in injectable form and must be taken in the doctor's office. For those of us with huge IGE counts, this medication has been a godsend. The only downfall is trying to get funding to help with co-pays and the like. This is no cheapie allergy shot thing. Since I have been taking Xolair I rarely have allergic reactions bad enough to send me to the ER and have only had one hospital stay in the past two years. A miracle. I have a severe latex allergy and I often run into this product no matter how careful I am. Xolair has practically changed and saved my life.
...

Advair has been a true life saver to me. Before it was introduced into my asthma fight plan I was always wheezing, having asthma attacks, or in the hospital more often than not. Advair has truly improved the quality of my life as it has helped put my asthma under control. As being an asthmatic for 25+ years when a medication as this can do what it does and control asthma the way it does I am one who can appreciate it. I use it twice a day when I take my other meds as you should rinse after using it, but I have never had problem all the time I have used it. From not being able to walk across the room without wheezing, or doing housework without an attack, today I hardly ever have an asthma attack thanks to Advair!
...

I can't breathe when I wake up, and within a half hour of taking it, I'm good to go for the day. It's a great medication with minimal side effects, and I couldn't survive without it! It's easy to take, and I love it. The only problem is that without insurance, I wouldn't be able to afford it. It's a great thing, but should be cheaper for those unable to afford it. Breathing is a serious thing, and money shouldn't be an issue.
...

I was perscribed Advair a few years back to help get my asthma under control. It really did work well for that and I was able to get my asthma back on track nearly immediately after starting it. But after doing a little research I found that all Advair is, is Serevent and Flovent which are two commonly perscribed steroid inhalers mixed together in a powdered inhalant.

My insurance was greedy and would not cover Advair, they would only cover the inhalers sepreately so they could get 2 co-pays from me.

Another downfall for me personally was the steroids made me very anxious and nervous constantly which I did not like, so I decided to not take the medication anymore (under my doctors supervision).

I also did not appreciate the dust residue left in my mouth after using. Horrible after taste!
...

All I need is the air that I breathe........
Hello, asthma sufferers. I join your ranks a few times a year, when allergies or stress push me over the edge. I used to occasionally struggle to breathe during a vigorous game of tennis. Lately I haven't had as many problems, but one thing I know for sure. ADVAIR IS THE WAY TO GO IF YOU HAVE ASTHMA.

It really, really works!
Advair is a preventive drug, so you use it in the morning, or prior to wahtever activity usually aggravates your asthma. One quick puff and you're done. Each purple discus has 60 applications. When I use Advair, I never ever have any problems breathing. It's like a miracle. And through the past 20 years, I've tried just about everything.

Insurance will help pay.... if you're lucky
I have a great insurance plan, thankfully, since Advair is expensive. I think it runs about $120 without insurance. (I pay more like $30 for a whole discus). Full price would be a big nut to cover, but...
...

I was diagnosed as having Reactive Airway Syndrome and Exercise Induced asthma a couple of years back. My asthma now reacts to the changes in the weather and different smells, like the mint in my toothpaste!

I was prescribed Advair, rescue inhalers, and a nebulizer with Pulmicort and Xenopex. I couldn't stand it. Using the steriods did some unpleasant things to me, like making me have mood swings, weight gain and female problems, so I choose not to use my meds on a daily basis.

My last doctors visit was due to my lungs, I had an infection and difficulty breathing, You know, the typical outcome for someone who doesn't follow doctors orders. My doc filled out a script for the Advair. I dropped it off at the pharmacy and they later called to let me know it would cost me over $200! I can not afford that every month!

Advair did work, but the side effects for me and my kids( they got the brunt of my moodiness due to the steriods) didn't seem worth it. I read in one other review where the...
...

I am a mother of four and 3 out of the four children have to take this medicine to help them breath. Before we started taking it, it seemed like they were always sick, like I couldn't go anywhere because I thought my kids were going to hve trouble later in the night. Night time was always there worst times. Going out side when it was cold or windy would triger it every single time. Whewn we started taking pulmicort things started to look up for them. When they did get there asthma it wasdo bad, it seemed like we could all do the things that normal people could do again!...

It is easy to use with great results. Must remember to rinse mouth out after using or thrush could occur as a result.

I have moderate to sometimes severe asthma. I have been using the Advair Diskus two times per day for almost three years now. Once when I wake up and once at night. It takes only a few seconds each time and the results have been wonderful for me! Before Advair I was using my emergency inhaler (Albuterol) a lot. I also have a nebulizer at home and was having to use it way too much before I started using Advair. But since I started using Advair I've only had to use my nebulizer one time and that was a long time ago!
The rescue inhaler that my pulmonologist has prescribed for me is Combivent, which is produced by Boehringer Ingelheim. It is a combination of ipratropium bromide and albuterol sulfate. One inhaler contains 200 metered doses, each of which delivers 18 micrograms of ipratropium bromide and 103 micrograms of albuterol sulfate (a bronchodilator). When administered together, these components are supposed to relieve swelling and open up airways.

Common side effects of using Combivent include headache, dry mouth, shaky hands, sweating, dizziness, heart palpitations, cough, and nervousness. When I have to...
...
