I've used this product since it was fairly new and have been waiting YEARS for it to become generic---who would have thought it would go from generic to OTC all in the same month! I'm glad it is now OTC and I hope it will help other allergy suffers now. Some may say it causes them to be drowsy, I've never had this bother me, but I take my dose each night before I go to sleep, so I've never noticed that as a problem (not like taking a Benadryl, etc.).
...

pollengrl says "zyrtec OTC is NOT the same!" about Zyrtec Allergy Medicine

The folks at Zyrtec got this one WRONG! The OTC version does not work like the prescription! I'd been on the 'script version for about 13 years with much success! I couldn't go more than a day without it. Now, with the OTC version, my nose is constantly running, watery eyes, itchy... you name it... And one of my co-workers just made the same remark so we went online and now realize that we are not the only ones.

Anyone have a suggestion?... I've tried adding other types of allergy meds inc. Flonase and Advair, but the side effects were worse than the problem I was trying to treat. I was short of breath... extreme dry mouth... blah blah blah. Love Me.

...

I have suffered from seasonal allergies all my life and I've tried everything. I was taking Claritin when someone recommended Zyrtec. It's significantly more expensive and I haven't had any different results than with Claritin. Don't get me wrong, it does work, but I still have constant symptoms and I don't think I got my money's worth....

Zyrtec is the only allergy medication that I have tried that doesn't cause drowsiness and actually keeps all of my allergy symptoms away for a full 24 hours. Without Zyrtec I would have red, itchy, watery eyes anytime I stepped outside or came near a cat. There would be sneezing and itching around my nose and an occasional sore throat.

The small size of the tablet makes it much easier to take on a daily basis along with my other medications. I have also found that the store brands of Zyrtec work just as well as the name brand, saving me a great deal of money each month.
...

Katrena says "My kids can smell the roses with Nasonex" about Schering Corporation Nasonex Nasal Spray

As with any medication, please consult your healthcare provider before using Nasonex.

Nasonex Nasal Spray has made a big difference in my children's allergy symptoms. They are now ages 6 and 4. This is a once a day nasal spray in a bottle that contains 120 metered sprays. If prescribed one squirt in each nostril once a day, that translates into a 2 month supply.

A great benefit of this nasal spray is that children as young as 2 years can use it. My kids have allergy symptoms all year, just as I do. We would probably be allergic to a Chia Pet if we had one.

This is not a quick fix product. It can take up to two weeks to get the full benefit of Nasonex. That's the nature of corticosteroids. When used on a regular basis, prescription Nasonex does not cause a rebound effect like some of the over-the-counter nasal sprays. A rebound effect happens when a product causes the opposite effect after a certain number of days of use.

My kids haven't experienced problems with side effects from this medication,...
...

I have used Flonase for a while now. It works great. It opens my sinuses almost immediately. Just occassionally in the winter if |I dont run the humidifier I will get an occasional nose bleed. This far outways the sinus headaches and the breathing issues....

Zyrtec just went OTC! As the commercials say, it really does work 2x as fast as Claritin and targets more allergies! As a person working closely with medications, I would recommend Zyrtec to allergy sufferers who are not getting their relief from Claritin....

Being suscribed Flonase made my life better on a daily basis! Using it once a day has made it easy for me to own cats and live in my dusty home. I'm definitely not a fan of nose sprays but I am willing to make an exception for this one!! It's also pretty inexpensive and lasts for a month so I am able to afford it each month (always a plus)....

I was in Murano, Italy, staying right on the Grand canal. It was very moist in the apartment I had rented, with the accompaning slight mold odor, even tho everything was fresh and clean. I am very allergic to mold, I get migraines from prolonged or extreme exposure. The second day I started getting migraine symptoms, exactly what I didn't want on vacation. I had brought Zyrtec with me, and started taking it immediately along with my migraine medication. What a lifesaver! No more problems for the remainder of my stay. And the slight drowsiness even worked in my favor because of the jet lag. A winning experience from all directions!...

Zyrtec is one of the better allergy drugs I have found. It doesn't last the 24 hors for me probably about 12. Works very well I can not take a decongestant because of epilepsy so I am limited on allergy drugs and Zyrtec works far better than Claritan for me.

I did have to be on Zyrtec for a few weeks before I got the full effect of it.
...

The OTC version seems less potent. I had to take more. Will not buy it again. I had to take more of this than I had planned. That meant I ended up spending more than I wanted to spend. I liked getting this at the pharmacy. I have the same complaint about other anti-histamines in OTC. It is a shame, really. Zyrtec is a good product. The question remains: Why have it OTC if it is not prescription strength?
...

For years, I have always been hit hard by allergies whenever I've walked outside, and from a young age, I kept all my windows shut during the spring and summer. If I didn't, I would be sitting on the couch, using up Kleenex boxes left and right. My parents suggested that I use Benadryl, which they had upstairs. Well, suffering through severe allergies with only Benadryl was like trying to put a bandage on to heal an amputation: it didn't do a single thing, and I felt worse after taking the Benadryl.

A few years ago, my doctor suggested that I try Zyrtec after wheezing and gasping all summer (going to camp was a terrible experience that summer, as all I had was over-the-counter medicine that felt even less effective than Benadyrl!). She wrote me a prescription for it, I filled it, and started that night.

The dosage I received was a once-a-day tiny little pill (very easy to swallow). Within about half an hour to 45 minutes, I could feel it kicking in... a short time after that, I could breath......
