I'm allergic to things like cats, dogs, dust, pollen, mites, mold, etc. I can't control the pollen, mites, mold, and dust, but I do have control over the animal factor. My plan: well, at the moment, we have 7 cats and 6 dogs in the house, along with lots of dust, pollen, mites, and mold. I guess you could say that I don't really have a plan other than to rely on allergy medications like Fluticasone Propionate.

Fluticasone Propionate is the generic version of Flonase which is a synthetic corticosteroid designed to reduce inflammation causing sneezing, runny nose, stuffiness, and itchy nose). This is not a fast-acting product and requires at least 12 hours and usually more in order to produce any noticeable improvement of symptoms.

I've had doctors suggest 2 "squirts" per nostril once a day and I've also had instructions to administer it twice a day. With my allergy and congestion levels, I really do require a twice-per-day application during prime allergen seasons. I keep using...
...

maxchuie says "I can sleep better" about Zyrtec Allergy Medicine

I never had allergies before until this year. I started taking claritn until one morning I could not open my eyes. They drained all night and were swollen shut and very drozy in the morning. The claritin stopped working. My dr gave me some other recommendations. I started using Zyrtec and now I no longer need eye drops and flonase. I wake up not feeling tired.

I hope this continues to work form me considering my allergies tend to flare up at night.

During the day my eyes do get itchy sometimes so I use the eye drops Zyrtec makes now. The really work well.
...

There are 8 people in our family, and 6 of us suffer from seasonal allergies. We were frequent users of Benedryl, which worked great, but made us very tired, restricting use to evening and bed time. During the day, we would just suffer rather than take the chance of falling asleep at a most inconvenient time.

Then one day I received a sample of Zyrtec. As I was suffering from allergies that day, I decided to try it. I totally forgot that I had allergies until the next day. It was almost exactly 24 hours later when my symptoms returned, reminding me that "Oh, yes, I DO have allergies!"

We do still use Benedryl at night when we don't have allergies too bad and can wait until the night to medicate, but when we have the symptoms bad and need it during the day, we definitly use Zyrtec. In fact, I have recommended it to all my friends and family who suffer from allergies and they have been pleased with the results also.
...

seeker1964 says "Quick, Long Lasting and Effective Allergy Relief" about Zyrtec-D Allergy Medicine

I do not use allergy medicine on a regular basis, but when I need to be at my best I use ZyrtecD Allergy and Sinus medicine. It is effective and long lasting (about 12 hours of relief). It also works very quickly against allergy symptoms caused by ragweed, pollen, grass, dust, pets and mould. I take one tablet in the morning and it usually lasts for the whole working day. I do not take allergy medicine at night when I sleep because it seems like a waste. This medicine contains an antihistimine (Cetirizine Hydrochloride) which is effective against seasonal allergies that cause itchy, watery eyes, runny nose and sneezing. ZyrtecD also contains an decongestant (Pseudoephedrine Hydrochloride) which provides relief from sinus congestion. I believe this is a winning combination because it works for me and I have never been drowsy after taking a dose. I have tried other allergy medicines but they have not been as effective.
...

When I was in Texas, allergy testing revealed high allergies to every week I was tested for. In Arizona, those allergies have continued. I've never gotten shots, but I have been using Alavert for years. I've always loved it, but last year, my allergies developed into a sinus infection. My doctor said, "You need something really good and strong, like Zyrtec-D." By the next day, I felt like a different person. I didn't feel achy or tired like I did the day before. Zyrtec-D fights the effects of allergies without drowsiness or over-exciteability. The "D" stands for decongestant, and boy, it works! Zyrtec also works well for colds and allergies, but it doesn't have the effect on congestion like Zyrtec-D does. The pills are very small and coated, making them easy to swallow. I would say the only negative is that it's extremely expensive. It does go on sale often, and coupons can be found easily if you'll look for them, but it's still expensive.
...

sallyo129 says "No sneezing with no sleeping!" about Zyrtec Allergy Medicine

Long long ago, Zyrtec was given to me by a doctor. It was fabulous. One itty bitty pill a day and I skipped the itchy eyes, the runny nose and the never ending sneeze-fests. Then it got expensive and my insurance just didn't want to pay.

Next came Claritin. It was ok... But 8hrs in or so, I was being to feel my symptoms. Then Claritin went over the counter. Now, its like taking a sugar pill. It does nothing.

So I turned my attention to Benadryl. AH!!! What a nightmare! I'm the type of person that cannot take one Tylenol PM because I'm woozy 24hrs later. So 2 hrs (tops) after I took it I looked like a person who'd had one too many. I couldn't keep my head up, my tounge was heavy and eventually I'd give in and sleep from between 2-4 hrs. Again, this effect lasted all day.

Then Zyrtec became available over the counter. It was like a gift from above. I had a coupon from the paper for $5 off and CVS had it on sale for $10 off so how could I pass up? It was the best allergy season I've ever...
...

I began taking this product after suffering through seasonal allergies for months. My doctor prescribed Nasacort AQ to me after I began complaining of ear aches, or more specifically, intense pressure in my ears. The pressure had been so intense that I would constantly rub my ears several times a day to ease the pain. My doctor told me that the product could help to reduce the pressure in the ear canals and would provide me with much needed relief. After a few days of using this product, I began noticing a change. My ears definitely did not hurt nearly as much as they did before I began using the product. I had almost stop rubbing my ears completely. I had to get used to actually using nasal sprays to treat my allergies since I had only been treating them through prescription pills. Two things that I have found extremely helpful when using nasal sprays are to inhale when pumping the spray into you nostril and to use the opposite hand to apply the spray. I usually...
...

mrslroberts says "Zyrtec is great for people with High Blood pressure" about Zyrtec Allergy Medicine

Zyrtec is amazing. I suffer from a variety of indoor and outdoor allergies. In particular I am allergic to all kinds of pollens and mold spores, dust, dogs and cats. I also have high blood pressure, so I can't take any over the counter decongestants or most of the over the counter allergy or cold medicines. It was a real problem finding anything that I could take to relieve my runny nose, itchy eyes, and the really horrid sinus hedaches I used to get from my allergies. It of course didn't help that we have a cat or live in a place where dust storms are the norm and not the exception.

Still, before my doctor prescribed Zyrtec (which at the time was prescription only) I was totally miserable. I had tried Claritan and Allegra and while they may work for other people, they did not work for me. Then we tried Zyrtec! It was like a miracle. Within 2 days all of my symptons were under control.

ZyrtecD definitely lives up to its ratings by patients and doctors, even over-the-counter. I have tried many allergy medicines and because I have to take them everyday regardless of the season my body builds an immunity within a couple of weeks and medicines no longer work for me. ZyrtecD is the opposite. I have been taking it for almost a year and it still works for me. I am able to breathe better through my nose, thanks to the decongestant in this pill. I take 2 pills a day and feel good all day. This was recommended by a pharmacist and I am so glad he did recommend it. I have now been able to enjoy outside more, my pets more, and family's houses more. It helped with seasonal and everyday allergies, even cigarette smoke. Although the medicine is a little pricier than others that you would buy off the shelf, this medicine is well worth the extra money spent if you want to feel better throughout the day without feeling drowsy. Put down your other allergy pills and try this for a week, you...
...

I began suffering from seasonal allergies about 7 years ago. At first I did not know that I had seasonal allergies, I thought maybe it was an after winter cold. When the symptoms came back more severe in the fall, I knew that I had seasonal allergies. I have tried numerous over the counter as well as prescription medications and the one that works the best for me so far is Zyrtec. The symptoms that I suffer from are eye irritation, itchy eyes, watery eyes, sore throat, itching feeling deep in my throat, itching feeling deep in my ear, sneezes, and a non-stop runny nose. Zyrtec has been my little miracle pill. Once the Zyrtec starts to work in my system, it quickly erases ALL of my symptoms, making me a much happier person. I love to be outdoors in the spring and summer and my allergies sometimes make that impossible. I should begin taking Zyrtec earlier in allergy season so I do not get any of the symptoms, but I haven't been able to time that yet and I always start taking my Zyrtec after...
...

I started using Zyrtec over a year ago when my insurance company stopped covering my prescription allergy medication. At first I was wary because my seasonal allergies are fairly severe and I didn't think a over the counter remedy would be strong enough. I was pleasantly surprised with Zyrtec. Zyrtec helps control my symptoms (sneezing, runny nose, itchy throat and eyes) and I do not experience any side effects while taking it. Other allergy medications made me drowsy or jittery but Zyrtec did not. Zyrtec is supposed to work for 24 hours. I find that if I take the medication first thing in the morning, relief lasts all day. When I forget to take Zyrtec in the morning I definitely notice a difference. The only drawback to Zyrtec is the price -- most pharmacies near me sell a 30 day supply for around $35. However, the relief is worth the cost. Also, if I had to pay out of pocket for a prescription allergy remedy, that cost would exceed $35.
...

As a mom to twin 12 yr olds who both suffer with indoor and outdoor allergies, I am very grateful for this medicine. I also find that since my son can't take a pill, he can use any form of Zyrtec crushed in orange juice with a little Fruit Punch mix powder thrown in. This saves money over buying the chewables. My son no longer has an itchy throat or eternally stuffy nose, and sleeps very well. He takes it daily. My other son uses it when he needs it. Zyrtec does not cause any sleepiness in either child which I am also very grateful for as I had heard it can make you sleepy. I would wholeheartedly recommend Zyrtec to anyone with an allergy to indoor or outdoor violators of the sinus, nose or throat.

LMRussell says "Zrytec D is a pricey twelve hour OTC medicine." about Zyrtec-D Allergy Medicine

Zrytec D is an over the counter allergy medicine that is available in any store that has a pharmacy. It is pricey. Twelve capsules cost around $15.00. The capsules are only effective for twelve hours, so users would have to take two capsules per day for full allergy relief. Also, in order to purchase this item at your local drugstore or supermarket, you must take the item tag off the shelf and take it to the in-store pharmacy. If you are shopping at Wal-Mart, this means that you will have to be entered into the pharmacy database (time consuming) and will have to purchase the medicine separate from your other items at the pharmacy counter.

If you do not have to have a decongestant in you allergy medication, the 24 hour regular Zrytec is a better buy. It really works for 24 hours, so it ends up costing much less. If decongestant is necessary, I would suggest finding a prescription allergy medication that your insurance will cover.
...

Having used Nasonex for over 10 years has given me ample opportunity to examine it's benefits. Nasonex is a corticosteroid which is administered through inhalation in the nose. If used on a continuing basis Nasonex provides reflief from seasonal allergies and day to day nasal irritation. I have not experienced any side effects from using this medication, but they can include sore throat, dry throat, and nasal irradiation. I primariliy use this medication for the spring and fall months, primariliy due to the alllergens in the air, such as, pollen, ragweed, and dust. Nasonex does a very good job in that it prevents nasal irritation and the accompanying nasal discharge and/or sore throat that often happens as a result of the nasal irritation. Currently Nasonex is offering a discount of $15 off your monthly prescription and this offer can be found on the website Nasonex.com.
amirek says "Astepro is HORRIBLE--makes you nauseous!" about Astepro Nasal Spray

I've been using Astelin for years, and it's been effective until the last year or two, when I noticed that it doesn't seem as effective anymore. Tried Fluonase (increased my blood pressure) and Nasonex (not at all effective--caused thick mucuous drainage, couldn't sleep at night), decided to stick with the Astelin. But, my doctor recommended Astepro, saying that it didn't have the "bad" aftertaste that Astelin did. She assured me the product was exactly the same except for the taste.

Astepro is HORRIBLE--it makes you nauseous! I never really had a big issue with the Astelin. It doesn't taste good, but if one uses the nasal spray as directed, the Astelin doesn't cause excessive post nasal drip, and as such, there is no taste. The Astepro, on the other hand, has a very cloying, annoying taste of artificial sugar. And, it DOES cause excessive post nasal drip--which tastes like kool aid pouring from your sinuses. It made me feel ill almost instantly. Who the heck wants to taste sugary snot...
...

shannon3d says "The best allergy medicine I've tried to date." about Zyrtec Allergy Medicine

I 've never tried prescription allergy medicines and don't think my symptoms are severe enough to warrant it, but I am a seasonal allergy sufferer. I have tried many over-the-counter allergy remedies over the years and none of them compare to Zyrtec. This product eradicated all my allergy symptoms fairly quickly and for the rest of the day. Because Zyrtec does take time to start working, I try to take every the morning during 'high allergy days' whether or not I have symptoms. This way I'm sneeze free for the rest of the day. My only complaint is the price. It is almost twice the cost of other medicines I've tried. However, you can find it cheaper in larger quantites at the 'big box' stores. Plus, I can't argue with the price of something that leaves me both free of symptoms and clear-headed. I recommend Zrytec to everyone I know who complains of allergy symptoms. If you've been balking at the price, do what I did, by the smallest package and try it. I bet you'll...
...

KyMomof5 says "Zytrec really works to prevent allergy symptoms!" about Zyrtec Allergy Medicine

My family first tried Zyrtec when my oldest was a toddler. She developed horrible allergies in the spring and was constantly sick. Our family doctor sent us home with a box of liquid Zyrtec and instructions. Within 2 days, she was symptom free! We have used it every year since, starting in February, all three kids get a daily dose. The only time they suffer from their allergies is when we forget to give it to them. I've noticed it only works for about 24 hours, no matter how long they they have been taking it. So we have to be diligent in giving it to them. The older 2 kids take the liquid straight, for my 3 year old, we mix it in this chocolate milk in the morning.

My husband finally starting taking it this year after having bad allergy headaches his entire life. The Zyrtec has stopped those!

I like that it is non-drowsy and doesn't make me walk around in a fog. I'm able to take my dose in the morning before work and actually perform better during the day because I'm...
...
