I tried Ambien a couple of years ago, as did my mother and my grandfather and I will never recommend this med to anyone! The side effect were a little different for the three of us but they were all horrible!

All three of us experienced haalucinations of some sort. My mother carried on an hour long conversation with me over the phone, fell asleep on the phone, and the next day never remembered talking to me! My dad would find her wandering the house, totally uncoordinated, and she fell I don't know how many times! My grandfather, had several episodes at home where my grandma would find him wandering the house, making no sense and then in the hospital for his colon and they gave him Ambian to help him sleep, he truly lost it, hallucinating, paranoia, calls to my grandma at 3:00 a.m. saying she was trying to put him away and the nurses were out to get him! Finally, with me, my ex-husband found me in the middle of my living room, SCREAMING my daughter's name over & over & every time...
...

anwyllyd says "It saved my life!" about GlaxoSmithKline Wellbutrin 300mg

I have been diagnosed with chronic moderate to marked depression. My doctor originally put me on that old classic, Prozac, which did little or no good for my depression but certainly was a bonus to my waistline :( After a couple of months on Prozac, my doctor and I agreed that it was not really working for me and he took me off of Prozac and put me on Zoloft. This appeared to work a little better than the Prozac, however not without significant (and I mean SIGNIFICANT!) weight gain. After three months struggling with the weight gain, my doctor and I realized that my depression was being dramatically worsened by the massive weight gain and that a change in medication was again necessary.

I refused to go on any anti-depressent that had weight gain as a possible side effect and he did some research and discovered Wellbutrin had no weight gain side effects and not much decreased libido (another major issue with anti-depressents). I have been on Wellbutrin since then and I swear by...
...

mhudson6 says "I am a different person" about Wellbutrin Bupropion Hydrochloride

I absolutely LOVE Welbutrin! I used to be on Lexapro for years and I never seemed to be happy or upbeat. The whole reason why I was on Lexapro was for self confidence issues and gaining weight on Lexapro certanly did not help. I went off of lexapro for a while and did it cold turkey and my family and boyfriend were affected by my decision. I was never happy and I became snappy and sad 24/7. When I went to my doctor she prescribed me to Welbutrin and now about a month and a half later, I honestly feel like a new person. I have lost about a pound or two (I also have been excercising and eating well) and I feel so much better and people like to now be around me. I take two in the morning and I am really really happy. I cannot express how much of a different person I am because of this medicine and if anyone suffers from depression especially someone with low self confidence then is he pill for you.
...

Priya2 says "You fall asleep and can still wake up in the morning!" about Ambien Zolpidem Tartrate Medication

Ambien (not CR) has been a really good drug for helping me fall asleep. Prior to taking Ambien, I had taken a few other drugs that made me sleep for waaay too long. Sometimes I slept for 18 hours or more and woke up thinking I only slept 8 hours!

When I mentioned this to my doctor, he suggested Ambien because of its short half-life (4 hours). He prescribed it to me with a warning that after taking a dose, I should go to bed immediately to prevent side effects. Usually when I take it I WANT to go to bed pretty soon because it helps me get tired within minutes! Sometimes I experience a little bit of morning grogginess, but usually it fades once I'm up and about. Just as often, I am able to wake up with no problems at all.

Sometimes I have to vary the dose. If I am really having trouble sleeping or am waking up in the middle of the night, I'll take 10 mg to make sure I sleep through the night. If I am having only mild problems sleeping, I'll take 5 mg. I am able to go on...
...

Priya2 says "So relaxing you'll fall asleep!" about Clonazepam Klonopin

As far as I know, Klonopin/clonazepam is the mildest of the benzodiazopines, a family of drugs that treat anxiety and include Xanax, Ativan, and a few others.

I began taking clonazepam after many years of being on Xanax. Xanax pretty much knocked me on my behind--I'd be sleep within minutes of taking it and groggy the whole next day. I needed something that would help my anxiety while still allowing me to function.

If I am feeling really, REALLY anxious, I can take clonazepam and go on with my day. But if it's night time, or I haven't been sleeping well, the drug will make me fall asleep. That may or may not be a good thing. I have used the drug just to help me sleep. However, it does not give me as bad or long-lasting of a hangover as Xanax did. I think what this drug does best is help me fall asleep when I'm tired, but I can't get my mind to shut off.

I should mention that I am very sensitive to drugs, and that the way I react to this drug may not be very common. Overall,...
...

Priya2 says "Good medicine with few side effects" about Zoloft

Zoloft is a selective seratonin reuptake inhibitor. What that means is that it regulates the amount of a substance in the brain called seratonin, which in turn lifts the mood and relieves the symptoms of depression.

Zoloft was the first antidepressant I tried, and I stayed on it for seven years. It regulated my mood quite well, with almost zero side effects (and I get side effects from EVERYTHING). I felt really lucky that this was the first medication I was prescribed. The only warning is, DON'T stop taking it without your doctor's okay. I did that, and when I tried to get back on it, it didn't work the way it used to.

Another bonus is that I think Zoloft is avaliable as a generic, so the costs and copays associated with it are much lower than they used to be. I highly recommend trying this drug. Then, if it works for you like it did for me, stay on it for as long as you possibly can.
...

first of all, let me just say, thank goodness for hydrocodone and other strong pain killers like it!!! i could not live without them!!! i have chronic back pain and i would not be able to hold down a job if i didn't have a strong pain medication like hydrocodone. i do not suffer any negative side effects from it that other people have reported such as constipation, nasuea, headaches, dry mouth, etc. i get a little dizzy from it sometimes, but this is no big deal. hydrocodone is well worth the money and time and effort it takes to get it. doctors are sometimes hesitant to prescribe strong, possibly addictive painkillers, but if you have chronic pain, don't give up. you can find a doctor who will give it to you eventually and you will be so glad when you do. even on my worst pain days, hydrocodone helps me out immensly. and it works quite fast too. besides pain relief, it also makes you just feel good in general.
...

I really really like the product naproxen, I use it regularly for pain and swelling in my back. it keeps the swelling down which keeps the pain down. I went to the urgent care where i was given thisa product for the pain in my back which the doctor believed was caused by inflamation from being irritated at work by constantly walking on cement floor and having to lift things regularly. I also have a few coworkers at a paper mill that i work at who also take this product call naproxen. One thing we really like about this product naproxen is it does not make you drowsy, so you can take while you work and dont have to worry about it making you sleepy or impairing your ablity to work heavy equipment. which is a nice thing to not have to worry about while you work. I also enjoy this product called naproxen because it relieves the swelling very fast, it seems like within 20 minutes or so it starets working which is a nice relief when you are working and you have like 7 hours left in your shift...
...

vicodin is one of the best pain killers available. it is not fair that you need to have a prescription to get it. doctors are generally very reluctant to give scripts for it because it is "highly addictive" frankly, i don't think it is as addictive as most people think. i have taken it on and off for many years and i am not addicted. i can take it or leave it (when i am not in pain, that is). sure, it makes you feel nice and relaxed and if you take a lot of it it can make you feel sort of high...but i still do not take it unless i need it for pain because i know that it is not good to do that. if you get addicted you eventually need more and more to get the same feel good effects, and then you can end up overdosing and this can lead to serious health problems, even death. if you take vicodin in moderation, however, and don't allow yourself to become addicted and/or overdose there is no harm in taking this drug. and it is very good at relieving serious pain.
...

Priya2 says "Effective medication but has some side effects." about Cymbalta

I have been taking Cymbalta for over 5 years. It has been very good for managing my depression. Some of my symptoms have literally disappeared! However, I have had some problems with side effects, mostly nausea, loss of appetite, and insomnia. Eventually, this problems was solved when I started taking half of my dose in the morning and half at bedtime, always with food.

I have a friend who is in medical school and he has the following to say about Cymbalta: it is an SNRI (serotonin-norepenephrine reuptake inhibitor), like Effexor. It was developed for people who would benefit from an SNRI but could not tolerate the high doses needed with Effexor. The main drawback is the high cost of the drug. But people of certain income levels can get the medication for free from the drug company.

In summary, this is a good drug to take if you can get your hands on it. You just might need to play around with the doses for the best, most side-effect-free result.
...

This medication is used to treat various symptoms. Personally it has helped me from everything from anxiety, migraines to controlling a rapid heart beat i have. I have taken this medicine for two years now and it has helped me tremendously. This drug gets a bad rap by alot of doctors but to me it is not near as bad as some anxiety drugs that are on the market. Of course there are side effects to this medicine such as dizziness and drowsiness but for me they subsided after a couple weeks. I take it two times a day every day. This is not a costly medicication either I get sixty for around seven dollars. I must add though this drug can be very dangerous if abused or taken with certain other drugs. You should also not drink alcohol while taking this drug. If your doctor considers this medication for you make sure you let them know what other drugs your taking even over the counter drugs as this drug may interfere with certain other drugs. To me this drug has been a life save to me. If taken...
...

I was put on Effexor XR 8 years ago for depression and anxiety, and I continued it for 6 of those years. My physician thought it would be a good fit because I had already tried several different medications during the two years prior that had caused weight gain and fatigue, and ultimately added to my depression. Effexor has a very low rate of weight gain compared to other SSRI's, in fact it can sometimes cause weight loss. I was very happy with the energy it gave me and it seemed to help a little with my depression. The problem that I had was that instead of decreasing my anxiety, it ended up shooting through the roof, and I was unable to sleep. I then had to be prescribed Trazadone to help me sleep at night, so instead of one medication I had to be on two. My main problem with the medication, however, and what I would warn others while they consider this, is the very harsh withdrawals I had when trying to go off of it. I followed all my doctor's instructions, tapering off it over...
...

Avonex is a drug (from the interferon family) used to treat (not cure) multiple sclerosis. I use a prefilled syringe that must be kept at certain temperatures, however, the drug is available in other injectable forms. It is a once a week injection.

I have been taking Avonex via intramuscular injection for approximately four years. I wasn't sure I would be able to self inject at first, but was able to overcome that after weighing the potential benefits the drug had to offer vs. my fear of needles.

The side effects were pretty intense, which I was warned about. I mostly experienced the common flu like symptoms, headaches, and injection site tenderness, which I learned to manage with time, experience, and a combination of medications.

With Avonex, you only have to inject once a week versus some of the other MS meds with require multiple weekly injections. I have had only one mild relpase since starting Avonex. I firmly believe this drug has kept my MS at bay. I would recommend this drug to...
...

Yes, Wellbutrin XL gave me the jitters!

I was prescribed Wellbutrin XL some time ago and did not have a good experience with this drug. I was suffering from mild depression with fatigue and lethargy. I was advised that this particular medication offered an "activating" effect that could help combat my symptoms. I expected to feel more alert, awake, motivated, and desire to be active. I was very surprised when I quickly went from feeling depressed to feeling very anxious! I experienced an array of unpleasant sensations including shakiness, feeling jittery as well as an unpleasant restlessness and internal feeling of vibration. I also had trouble sleeping and terrible headaches that stopped once I was off the medication. In my experience, the side effects of the drug were just too much to bear.

I know for some this drug has offered great benefits, but for me it was pretty awful. If you have any tendency towards feeling restless or jittery I do not recommend this drug.
...

Abilify is a medicine prescribed by psychiatrists for patients suffering from major mental illnesses. In my case prescribed for BiPolar Depression. I had taken numerous medicines since 1988 trying to control my depression. Everything I had taken in the past made me so sleepy or feel so out of it that I couldn't function. I had been on around 100 different medicines and nothing worked. Then one of my psychiatrists prescribed Abilify. The mental health clinic gave it to me for free while I lived in that town. When I moved, the new town didn't provide free medicine. I went without for a while until I found an advertisement in a Schizophrenia magazine saying that the manufacturer would supply it for free through the mental health professional. I applied for the free medicine and received it. At the present time I can not afford to go to the mental health clinic to get the free medicine, but as soon as things get better for me I will go in for the free medicine. It keeps me from having the disturbing......

Cipiro is an antibiotic, that is usually taken tw ice a day for ten days. It is quite effective at fighting infection and has been around for many years. Pill size is a little large, but they usually slide down fairly easily. One of the drawbacks of takinf this medication is thte fact that it must be taken at least two hours before or after a meal acontaining milk products, or any medication containing calcium, zinc, , etc. Since I usually eat a breakfast of cereal in milk, that makes my orning dose difficult to fit in. I usually take it at ten o'clock, morning and night. Spacing the twice-a-day dosage twelve hours apart makes it work the best, because blood levels of the medication remian consistant. Another drawback is that this medication MIGHT cause or aggrevate existing tendonitis of large joints, like the knee, hip, shoulder, and elbow. Warnings with themedication advise that if this should happen, you must stop taking it immediately and contact your doctor. Overall,...
...

cz1963 says "oxycontin is worth the high cost for relief of nerve pain" about oxycontin oxycontin

I have been on pain meds for three years graduating from percocets to roxycodone. When the pharmaceutical companies stopped making the oxycodone in generic, I was forced to change to less pills per day but oxycontin isnt available in generic. The cost tripled to over $300 for a months supply. The great thing about this compared to the generic is not only taking less pills per day and not mixed with acetominophen ( which i hear long term use causes liver and stomach lining damage) but if I run out, my withdrawal symptoms are not as severe as they were with the generic. The insensity of the pain wasnt as debilitating the first day without and I didnt have any physical symptoms of withdrawals. Having to pay out of pocket, its likely to be without meds a few days a month and this positive side of this med is important to me.
...

dmpad1025 says "avapro works" about avapro high blood pressure

I'm giving a positive review for avapro, I was diagnose with high blood pressure about 7 years ago and was very upset, being that I was only 40 years old, I had a very stressful job working for an oral surgeon. I went to the Dr. one day during my break and talked with my Dr. about how I was feeling, he suggested that I take avapro, I didnt want to do it because of the side effects I kept hearing about high blood pressure pills, but since I didnt have much of a choice I decided to try avapro for a month. After a month I went back to my Dr. and to my surprise my blood pressure was back to normal. I have been using avapro now for at least 7 years and I have no side effects and I don't have to take a water pill along with the avapro which I understand that some people have to take a water pill also when they take blood pressure medicine and another plus for taking avapro is if your Dr. wants you to only take half of the pill it is easy to break iin half.
...

samsummit48 says "Affordable for those of us that must take name brand." about Synthroid Synthroid

This is a great product for an underactive thyroid condition. If you must take the name brand, take it and pay for it even if your insurance will not cover it. If you don't have insurance apply for a discount card or see a Publix pharmacy which offers name brand prescriptions with a discount. Do not think that you can take a generic to get the same results. My pharmacy gave me generic by mistake after taking name brand Synthroid for a year and I felt the bad effects immediately. The Synthroid brand product takes four to six weeks to really boost your system so give it time to work. I started feeling better in one week. Make sure you are seeing your doctor regularly because he can adjust this medicine easily and get you feeling great. You will probably take this medicine the rest of your life and you will need occasional adjustments. I have been taking Synthroid for ten years. I work outside which means I sweat alot so I usually adjust for a little higher during the summer...
...
