We held a wine tasting in our office yesterday with all of our employees. All age ranges and all different tastes in wine. I thought the Chimney Rock Cabernet was plesant, smooth and packed a punch in the back of your mouth. I would describe it as having a medium body with a hint of plums. I like a nice full body red wine without a lot of tannins that make your mouth pucker. Apparently a few other members of the staff thought the Chimney Rock Cab was a little boring and light for what they expected from a Cab.
...

KriticalKen says "Not your everyday Sauvignon Blanc" about Chimney Rock Sauvignon Blanc, White Wine Blend

An interesting and unusual wine! The label says "Elevage Blanc," which is a new one to me (not like I'm the World's Leading Authority but still...). Elevage is, apparently, what Chimney Rock calls their blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon Gris grapes, to make a white in the style of the wines of Graves, in Bordeaux.

Tasting notes

If you are looking for a very bright, assertively fruity, New Zealand-style Sauvignon Blanc, this is probably not the right choice for you. I would describe this wine as full-bodied, subtle, and smooth, with grassy notes and a little bite at the end. It had moderate complexity and was enjoyable to drink.

I ate this with Cypress Grove's Midnight Moon cheese, which was a very satisfying pairing.
...

hritchey04 says "Bully Hill Love My Goat - Quite Possibly the Perfect Table Wine" about Bully Hill , Red Wine

Bully Hill Love My Goat is quite possibly the perfect red table wine. It is somewhere right in the middle of sweet and dry, and pairs with everything from red meat to poultry to fish to chocolate.

I've served it to wine drinkers, they love it. I've served it to wine avoiders, and they loved it. Beer drinkers, ditto. Cocktail drinkers, ditto again. My mother absolutely prefers white wine, but if there is a bottle of Love My Goat open, she'll take a glass of it instead of her preferred white. It is my go-to wine for serving at dinners I host, taking as a hostess gift, giving as a last minute present... The list goes on and on.

I used to be able to find it on post at Ft. Drum, NY for about $6 a bottle, at my local grocery store in Virginia it retails for about $8.50 a bottle, and I think goes for $7.99 on the Bully Hill website. It is a very affordable wine and fits into my budget just perfectly. I tend to puchase it by the case simply because it is so versatile, and I know that if I need...
...

Target Wine Cubes are just another reason why I love this retailer!

I would not call myself a wine snob. However, I do appreciate a good wine (particularly red). I want a wine that goes down easily and has a lot of flavor. Harsh wine is the worst! That is why I have never been a fan of boxed wine. It has never tasted right to me; it is always too chalky and rough. I just tried a Target Wine Cube over Thanksgiving dinner and it has forever changed my opinion of boxed wine!

Target Wine Cubes come in three sizes: (1) a 3-liter box equivalent to 4 bottles of wine, (2) a 1.5-liter box equivalent to 2 bottles of wine and (3) a 4-pack of small boxes equivalent to just over a glass of wine. They are perfectly packaged in colorful square boxes that you can stack and carry just about anywhere. The box was designed so that air does not enter the packaging as you drain the wine in to your glass to drink. This means the wine lasts four weeks after opening the box!

Target Wine Cubes come in eight different...
...

LisaCarey says "Fruity flavors for the average wine drinker " about Beringer Vineyards Pinot Grigio 2008 ml

Beringer wines are a name even non wine drinkers recognize from their trips to the grocery store. Anyone just looking around can see that there are many Beringer wines to choose from that don't empty the wallet when you get to the cash register. An end cap at the grocery store offered Beringer Vineyards Pinot Grigio 2008 for $5.99 and suggested that this white pinot had the flavors of apricot and pear.

Beringer Vineyards Pinot Grigio 2008 is exactly what it appears to be, mediocre in both price and flavor. Their is a faint taste of pear, apricot, and white grapes. It is a little on the dry side for me, but those that like dry white wines will find it acceptable. Alcohol content 13%.

Beringer Vineyards Pinot Grigio 2008 is a good choice for serving to friends or during a party when you don't know what wines your guest will prefer. It also won't break the bank. You may want to have a back up of a good red wine or Riesling on hand for those that prefer a sweeter wine to enjoy. ...
...

I am SO not a wine snob.

I mean, when I first saw all of those people swirling and chewing and spitting with such intense concentration, I thought they had a screw loose.

You know those descriptions? ... The ones that say *cherry pie, blueberry, or chocolate tones*? After sampling many wines over the years, I thought those people were certifiable. I mean, how the heck could a bunch of molded grapes turn into such delightful flavors as THAT?

My husband, well, he naturally sniffs and swirls everything- even his water. I mean, this guy is a total scientist when it comes to analyzing anything he consumes or partakes in. He is a hands on learner.

The first time he urged me to try some wine and I watched him go through his exploration of the stuff in the glass, I thought "What have I gotten myself into?"

Over time, however, I learned that is just his way of doing everything- not limited to wine.

Toasted Head Chardonnay

I'm not much of a wine drinker, the first time I had this was at a friends birthday party. I liked it so much that since then I have purchased it for holidays and other special occasions, everyone always comments on how the flavor is as memorable as its name.

Toasted Head is a winery located in the Dunnigan Hills of Yolo County,California, next door to Napa Valley. This particular wine region has a Mediterranean-like climate which turns out the perfect grape for a variety of wines. How did it get such an unusual name? well Toasted Head is named for the 'age-old practice of toasting barrel heads and staves that imparts a mellow, toasted flavor to barrel-aged wines'.

This Chardonnay is a wonderful blend of premium grapes and other delectible fruits that culminate into one complex and exceptional flavor. I've tasted hints of lemon zest, peach, pear, berries, pineapple and even hints of vanilla, I find something a bit different every time, that's one of the reasons...
...

njchicaa says "You can't go wrong with Trader Joe's $3 Merlot." about Charles Shaw , Merlot

I'm not a regular wine drinker, but my husband, family, and friends love wine so we've gotten into the habit of keeping a stash of red and white wine on hand. When we discovered that our beloved Trader Joe's had stores in the state selling $3 bottles of wine, we decided to check it out. We've been buying their Charles Shaw Wines, including the Merlot ever since!

The Charles Shaw Merlot is a rich red California wine that still manages to be smooth despite the low price point. Those in our group who drink Merlot regularly have no issues with drinking a bottle of the so-called "Three Buck Chuck". They happily imbibe it in the same manner that they would if they were drinking a $30+ bottle of red wine. I generally don't drink red wine, but I do use this Charles Shaw Merlot several times a week during the cold months in my cooking. I use this Merlot in marinara sauce, bolognese sauce, sausage/peppers, pot roast, beef stew, and sometimes even chili! This wine provides great flavor...
...

When it comes to a reasonably priced, light and refreshing wine, you can't beat Riunite Lambrusco. Served chilled it is the perfect accompaniment for any meal and is a treat with appetizers as well.

Riunite Lambrusco as a beverage that goes great with a casual meal or can be a great beverage with chicken, fish or meat.

I have served it at football parties and found that the guys even like Riunite Lambrusco with hot dogs, and chips and dips. The light and slightly bubbly beverage even goes well with dessert.

It is the kind of beverage that holds very well in the refigerator and is always ready to serve to unexpected guests. Since it can be served in champagne flutes it makes a simple party seem like a special occasion. Since it is a moderately priced beverage, it is a practical and economic way to entertain with a slight touch of elegance.

I have anjoyed serving and drinking Riunite Lambrusco for many years and I know anyone would . Try it you will love it.

Menage a Trois California Red Table Wine is a very accessible and drinkable wine - and at Costco even with the outrageous MN liquour tax it is less than $9 a bottle.

My dear friend, her hubby and I enjoyed it this past Saturday as a "sit around and chat" wine - while the hubs stuck with his MGD light, of course.

I agree with the previous review on the Black Box Cabernet Savignon. I was surprised by how good this wine is considering it's boxed and that it's so inexpensive. I love Italian food and it goes really well with red sauce items. It's also great with steak and potatos or a good hearty winter stew. I also had it for a party and it lasted the entire evening without a lot of garbage (empty bottles) at the end of the evening. I've tried the pinot grigio in the summer and it's also very good. I've found it between $21 and $22 a box, but it's 3 litres which is about 4 bottles of wine. That's about $5/$6 a bottle, if you think about it! What a great find in these money saving days. It also makes it possible to drink a glass of good wine everyday for your cholestorol without guilt pains. The wine last for weeks without tasting stale. I can't recommend it enough to wine lovers who want to save money, not sacrifice on taste, and also care about the planet. Looking forward to trying...
...

I never thought I'd ever love boxed wine, but after trying the Black Box Cabernet, I'm hooked! It's a very high quality boxed wine and it is one smooth cabernet. I get a deep cherry, oak taste. The cost can't be beat, about $22 for 3 liters; and you can't argue with the "green" value (no glass bottle to throw out!) Black box makes other wine types: Pinot Grigio from Italy; Savignon Blanc from New Zealand; Merlot, Shiraz and Chardonnay from California; and Reisling from Washington State. Personally, I've only tried the Cabernet but am looking forward to other varieties. I highly recommend this for a party.
...

Although I'm not as knowledgeable about wine as I would like to be, I know what I think tastes good (to me). I buy a lot of wine at Trader Joe's and at my local natural store, Henry's Farmers Market. I have found some really good, inexpensive wines there, so I was really interested in trying Familia Zuccardi Santa Julia Organica Malbec because it was not only inexpensive, but organic too.

Familia Zuccardi Santa Julia Organica Malbec is an organic, Argentinian, red wine that originates from vineyards in Santa Rosa and Maipu, Mendoza. It is 14% alcohol and made with 100% malbec grapes.

The label says: "This Malbec that carries the name of Jose Zuccardi's only daughter Julia, comes from organic vineyards, that were planted on land which was originally a desert but has come to life thanks to pure Andean mountain water."

My Husband and I first discovered the Williamsburg Winery on our honeymoon last year. We both tend to be fairly nerdy, and we both just love history and very old towns. What better place for us to go spend the week then than Williamsburg. We were driving around and seeing what all there was to do around the town and stumbled on a few signs that lead to the winery. We both love wine and having a few drinks, but we both had never been to a winery to do a tasting. We both agreed that a wine tasting was right up our alley. They had six different wines they let us sample, and the very last wine was a raspberry dessert wine. I absolutely fell in love with that wine. For one thing, raspberry is one of my favorite fruits so it was great to have a wine with a great raspberry taste. The wine was extremely sweet as one would expect a dessert wine to be. They also gave us plenty of ideas that we could incorporate the wine with. One of my favorites is very simple and easy. Just drizzle the wine over...
...

mrbeer21 says "A perfect summer wine" about Conundrum (independent brand from owners of Caymus Vineyards) Viognier, White Wine

Let me start out by saying that I am almost exclusively a red wine drinker. I was introduced to Conundrum at a wine tasting event and I was blown away by the complexity of this wine - something I find lacking in most white wines.

Conundrum is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc from Napa Valley, Chardonnay and Viognier from Monterey County, and Muscat Canelli from Tulare County - some aged in stainless steel & some in oak (mostly seasoned oak to keep it more subtle). The ratio varies from year to year....and thus the "conundrum" for the drinker to puzzle out what the blend ratio may be.

It has a wonderful floral and fruit aroma and the flavor profile includes apricot, melon, pear, a touch of vanilla and tropical fruit, balanced by a background of acidic citrus.

Conundrum is a bit pricey on my scale for an "everyday" wine (about $25 retail, but I often find it on sale for around 19.99). I try to shoot for wines (red or white) in the $10 to $15 range but I'll venture out every now and then...
...

Teenahtee says "I was told it was a sweet wine, but I would have to disagree." about Yellow tail shiraz , 2006

A big hello out there to all of you who are just starting the wine adventure. My husband and I have just recently started drinking wine.We both had tried wine at earlier ages and were dissappointed with the flavor. So lately we decided to give it a whirl again.

About every other week we try a few different styles and brands of wine. This past weekend we tried the incredibly hyped up ~Yellow Tail Shiraz~.All the reviews I had read about this Australian wine said that it was sweet and palateable to all.Well I would have to diagree. We found it to be pretty much lke any other red wine it was strong in flavor and I didn't sense any of the fruitiness that it is supposed to exude.

To sum this all up I think we will be sticking to white wines for now. We have thoroughly enjoyed Sutter Home Moscato at a great value price of $5.97 a bottle. Also we found that we like Beringer Moscato which is also very affordable around $7.00 a bottle. Hope that this review...
...

critty says "Bully Hill offers a wine for every season" about Bully Hill , All Wines

If you are looking for an excellent wine experience, I would recommend Bully Hill wine. If you like to travel, I would suggest a long weekend trip to the Finger Lakes, and take a tour and tasting at Bully Hill Winery. Whether you are a beginner or an avid fan of wine, you will not be disappointed. The winery is located in the village of Harmmondsport, New York, in the Finger Lake region. They recently opened a restaurant that features anything from delectable Maryland -style crab cakes to a tender filet mignon. Don't forget to ask for the wine recommendation that will truly bring out the flavor of your meal. My favorite part of my visit was the unique tasting. They offer an informal group tasting in a relaxed atmosphere that you will find very entertaining. The wine labels all represent a story and is considered art in my book. Topped off with a cork inscribed with several virtue's such as; Wine with Integrity, Wine with Hope or Wine with Love. You never know what...
...

kmg611 says "My family HAS to have Verdi at every family event w. fruit." about Verdi Spumante

My mom randomly picked up Verdi one day at the store and my entire family (ranging in ages from 23-31) just LOVE this stuff. It is slightly sweet, wine taste but not too strong. Even non-wine lovers are loving this stuff in my family. We always cut up strawberries and put them in the glass of Verdi. Then eat them at the end and it is just excellent. This is worth a try, especially since it is so cheap for such a quality product. Do not worry about a hangover... just because one person says they received a hangover from Verdi, doesn't mean EVERYONE will. I have never received one ever from Verdi. ENJOY!
...
