CyndiA says "Joke on me. Photo on Allens bean can must have been PhotoShopped" about Allens Italian Bean Shellouts

My Grandma made shelly beans. These were green beans with some fat shelled beans as well. That's what Allens Italian Bean Shellouts look like on the picture on the can. — The can also says cut Italian beans and dry shelled beans. The Italian part didn't make much sense as they have the shape of Kentucky on the can (which is not in Italy last time I checked) and the words Kentucky Wonder Style. Grandma was in the mountains, so I do know Kentucky Wonders (beans) and the "style" of these beans cooked like in the photo. — I opened up these beans and had kidney beans with a VERY FEW green beans. You can see in the photo, and it was generous to the green beans as I stired them up top. — Boy I was irritated. I wanted shelly beans. I wanted green beans with some shelled beans like Grandma made and like what is on the can. I got goopy kidney beans with some token green beans. The sauce was thick like with canned kidney beans. I usually wash off canned kidney...

A few weeks ago I found a rare catch ... a sale on Bumble Bee Premium Albacore Tuna in Water (pouch pack). I usually stick to certain brands of chunk light tuna because it is more economic and also safer to eat (according to the experts). I mention this to show that -- when it comes to albacore tuna -- I don't have much basis for comparison. I thought that Bumble Bee Premium Albacore Tuna in Water was delicious but actually no better than chunk light tuna. — STATS: — The contents of a 3-oz. pouch is considered to be a single serving containing 90 calories with 10 calories from fat. There are one and a half grams total fat, zero each saturated and trans fat, 40 mg. cholesterol, 380 mg. sodium, zero each total carbs, dietary fiber and sugars, and 19 grams protein. Vitamins and minerals include: 30% (D.V.)
kid-kansas says "Redneck cooking at its Best!!" about Campbells Cream of Mushroom Soup

Campbell's soups have been around longer than I have and my Mom taught me long ago that soup is great for adding to other foods as well as being a bowl of soup on a cold winters day. Being German, Irish and Redneck I was born to experiment in the kitchen, it's in my blood! — — Campbell's Cream of Mushroom Soup — — I love it by itself with a ham and cheese sandwich but that is not doing it any justice in my book. It is a very hearty soup and being condensed makes it the perfect ingredient for many main dishes as well. I love to use it for Liver and Onions, Salisbury Steak, Baked Chicken, Braised Beef Tips, Mushroom Vegetable Medley and so many more. Take some beef bullion (now they make a Beefy Mushroom version) and butter and then add flour to make a fantastic Beefy Mushroom Gravy. Everyone loves Green Bean Casserole and Campbell's makes it lovable! — — As a kid growing up I would eat a can of Campbell's Mushroom Soup as my lunch and remember how...

CyndiA says "Soup at Hand is handy, but I still like a spoon. " about Campbell's Soup at Hand

The new Soup at Hand soups by Campbell's are a good idea. They come in microwave containers so can be taken to work or on trips and heated up and eaten right in the container. — Actually, it's says on the container that you can just drink the soup from the container. I would be unlikely to drink a soup. I really like to eat my soup with a spoon. Genereally I go for the chicken soups with stars or noodles. Kind of hard to drink. Even in the creamy versions, I still like a spoon. It's not a big deal to take a plastic spoon along with the Soup at Hand container. Still super convenient. — They only offer a few of these at the local IGA, and they just got them in recently. There were a couple of the chicken and a couple of the creamy soups. They may offer the whole line of Campbell's soups, but I'm not sure about that. It would be a good though. — The flavors are like the traditional Campbell's soups in the cans. Very close. I probably would not guess it wasn't...

Dole Pineapple Slices is an item that is frequently on my shopping list. I love pineapple and especially fresh pineapple but don't like going through the hassle of coring a fresh pineapple. I'm usually running in and out and this doesn't leaven much time for extra duties in the kitchen. Therefore, I usually pick up canned fruit and we and enjoy it whenever we feel like having fruit. I don't have to worry about it spoiling like fresh fruit either. — — Dole Pineapple Slices 20 oz. — — Dole Sliced Pineapple comes in a 20 oz. can. The pineapple is all neat, cored and sliced evenly. Each can contains about 10 slices in 100% pineapple juice. — — There are several good reasons to eat pineapple. It's healthy for you! It does not contain any fat, is cholesterol free and very low in sodium. It is rich in Vitamin C, which is a daily vitamin most do not get enough of. — — You can also purchase Dole Pineapple in chucks or...

kid-kansas says "Nothing like a pot of Bush's on the grill to round out your meal" about Bush's Original Baked Beans (brown sugar and bacon)

You have a bunch of people coming over for a pool party/cookout do you just throw some burgers and dogs on the grill or do you go for a memorable meal? Well I like the memorable meals myself, life is just too short to play it safe. So I get a combination of flavors going.....It may be pork chops, brisket, burgers or chicken but they are not a meal by themselves....Nope being part German, Irish and a natural born Redneck I was brought up to believe that when you invite people over you treat them like royalty! — — Bush's Original Baked Beans — — I am not one to open a can, throw it in a pot and just heat it up....I don't like bland food! So for the perfect cookout I put 2 cans of Bush's Baked Beans in my thick sturdy aluminum pot and the I get to fixin the Fixins! First ya chop a bunch of green onions, green peppers, red peppers and 1 or 2 jalapeno peppers and saute them in a bit of bacon fat. When done ya toss them in the pot with the beans and add 1/2 cup of...

I have hesitated to review a food item as our tastes are all so individual, but I have never eaten a worse tuna in my life. I usually buy starkist or the store brand(shaws). I always get chunk white in water. I figured Bumblebee would be at least as good as the Shaw's brand. I was so looking forward to a tuna on a soft bulkie roll! I ended up throwing the sandwich away. — The tuna was very mushy and looked fatty, and when I drained it, what was left was only enough for one sandwich! Usually I get two out of a can. The taste was overwhelmingly fishy. I know tuna is a fish, but this was like something that had been left on the dock in the sun. Also quite salty tasting. I didn't even give it to my dogs. — ...

Actually Bush's Baked Beans are one of my 'go to' items for cookouts, barbeques and pig pickin's. (if you don't live in the south, a pig pickin is where they cook an entire pig on the grill. I know, weird) The beans go with just about anything, and would be nice to take to church functions as well. Plus, kids like them too! — I don't just throw mine in a dish and bake them, although I'm sure they would be good that way. I very finely dice up onion and bellpepper and add a little ketchup. Believe it or not, it's DELICIOUS. If I bring my beans, and other people bring theirs, mine always gets eaten first. They have such a comforting sweet taste, much better than any other canned baked bean I've ever tried. Maybe it's that little bit of bacon in the can?? — And they are so affordable too! I can find them on sale for about $ 1.00, and the large can goes a long way. I usually make two large cans if I'm...

Making "gravy"--or tomato sauce--is something that my grandmother could do with her eyes closed. She was the epitome of the Italian food diva; she could cook up a storm and feed an army with her delicious gravy. I try to keep the tradition alive in my own kitchen by whipping up a delicious pasta meal, complete with a tomato sauce that I make using Tuttorosso New World Style Crushed Tomatoes with Basil. These canned tomatoes have a fresh, juicy flavor that makes my recipes really shine. I'm almost as good as my Grandma in the kitchen when I have a can of Tuttorosso in my recipe arsenal. — — Family owned and operated, Tuttorosso has been in business since 1942. Tuttorosso has a reputation for fresh, full-bodied flavor that enhances homemade meals. The 28 oz. can of crushed tomatoes can be used in so many different recipes and it will always yield flavorful results. This evening, I made a "gravy" from scratch using the crushed tomatoes as a base. I enjoy an acidic tomato...

My toddler is in a spaghetti phase right now, which you moms will know means that's pretty much all he wants to eat, and I give in about once a day. Keeping spaghetti in the fridge can be hard though, since some other household members don't bat a lash at eating a triple serving of it in one sitting and don't even bother to tell me so I can make more! Grrrr... But trying not to digress, buying canned spaghetti seemed to be a reasonable alternative to tolerating 20-25 minutes of toddler whining while I cook it from scratch every time he wants some. — He takes one forkful of this stuff, pronounces it "yucky," and asks for waffles instead. Well, maybe it will cure his spaghetti obsession, but I was really disappointed with Campbell's for this one. I tasted it, and the boy is right. It's yucky. Flavorless and limp. — I'll try the Chef Boyardee brand next. But I'm only buying one can this time. — In the meantime, for those in the same boat, I...

These are slimy tube shaped tamale flavored things. This is what a tamale might turn out like if someone who had never had a tamale had heard of them and gave it a shot.

La Choy canned meals are rather like Hamburger Helper but in the Asian realm. La Choy meals are quick and easy, and if you like them, they are inexpensive and tasty. — I had not had canned La Choy for years, and I really do mean years. My Dad liked Asian food. There was no place to get such foods around here, so my Mom bought La Choy from time to time. — I think my Dad and I were the only ones who really liked La Choy canned meals. Everyone ate. That was just how it was back then. Complain and you could cook your own or go hungry. — It had been 20 years or more since I'd had a La Choy meal. I just saw the cans at the grocery store, and I remembered how I used to enjoy the canned Asian meals. I bought La Choy Chicken Chow Mein and La Choy Rice Noodles. I've bought the noodles in more recent years to make candy dipped in butterscotch. The La Choy canned meals could be served over rice, of course, but we always had them just sprinkled with the crunchy rice noodles....

Bottom-Line: It's what for lunch (almost) every day. — According to Campbell's its Chunky Grilled Chicken & Sausage Gumbo is a zesty gumbo loaded with chunks of grilled chicken, sausage and vegetables like celery, red and green peppers plus lots of rice in a savory seasoned broth and has just 140 calories and comfortably low 2.5 grams of fat per serving. Loaded with generous portions of both chicken, sausage, rice and the other trappings of gumbo this hearty bowl is enough to satisfy me for a few hours and the average cost is only $1.69 per microwave bowl at my local Target Super Store. How is that for an inexpensive lunch? However, the taste of this particular variety of Chunk Soup is a little light on flavoring despite the rather generous 850mg of sodium. — Nutritional Information — Ingredients: Water, Diced Tomatoes in Tomato Juice, Rice, Tomato Puree (Water, Tomato Paste), Cooked White Chicken Meat, Cooked Andouille Sausage (Pork,...
