TLHUBER says "Rate Increases are a Doozie" about Blue Cross / Blue Shield

My husband has been with BCBS for 18 years now. In 1991 is premium was 160.00 per month, full coverage mind you. Now his premium is 450.00 per month for the same coverage. This is rediculous, where is it going to stop.

He does not use his insurance every year for surgeries or anything. He does get Kidney Stone which is one of the reason's that he has the insurance in the first place, but he does not get those every year.

I'm going to be putting him on my Hospital Only policy today and the money that we will save will cover his Dr. Vistis and Pharmacy Prescriptions. The Hospital only plan does not cover Dr. Visits or Drugs, but that's ok there is a savings when you look at the big picture. If my husband was sickly and had to go to Doctors evrey week then the plan that he has would pay for itself.

People need to start excessing there illness's that they have now and try to predict thier illness's in the future and get the right poilcy to fit their budget.
...

wyldepixie says "The Esurance website is very user friendly, quick, and painless." about Esurance

Esurance was very easy to use. Their website was easy to navigate and didn't take a long time to set up a policy. Their prices were competitive though seemed to be a bit higher then companies, like Safe Auto, that advertise to low income families. The set up was painless and my policy was complete in under 20 minutes. For someone like me, who doesn't use credit cards, paying esurance was more difficult then using a local company. In the past I've been able to just drop off a payment along with my other errands and this took a bit more work to make payments on time. The few instances of using their customer service via phone was okay. I've seen worse but I was on hold for a long time before getting transferred to the person who could address my problem. I choose to have my bills mailed instead of electronically, which is nice for someone who doesn't own a printer. Alot of other online companies seem to assume that everyone does which can irk me. Here in Ohio you have...
...

olliebobbers says "Geico offers excellent service and great rates." about Geico

Geico insurance is great. They have friendly customer service and fast service. I have been a member of Geico since I began driving at age 16 and not to age myself but it has been 20+ years. I have no complaints and feel they offer good service and competitive rates. They have an excellent web site and it is very user friendly. I had to make a glass claim and they were out that day to repair it. The road side assistance is a plus also. Geico also carries a mechanical breakdown coverage that you can add if you purchase a new vehicle. It is like having an extended warranty however it is much cheaper than what you would pay for one at the time of the vehicle purchase. I highly recommend Geico and their products. Unfortunately, they do not write homeowners policies in Florida so I am unable to qualify for their homeowners insurance if I could I would. I have not used many of their other products but I have never heard anything negative from anyone who has had their coverage....
...

wetterhound says "They treat their customers fairly." about State Farm

I have had my home insured with State Farm for 20 years. Never have I had a claim until now. We have had problems with our roof and although the roof may not be covered. The inside damage will be covered. State Farm is stepping up and taking care of all repairs.

What is making the repairs so easy is that we hired an adjuster to represent us to the insurance company. This has taken so much stress off our shoulders. They take their payment out of the money gotten from the insurance company. They have brought in a company who comes in and drys out the damage and then does the repairs and although this is not a pleasant process they do every thing possible to make it as comfortable as possible. They make sure that all repairs are done, not just the cosmetic repairs.

I know if we had not hired this company the repairs would have just been cosmetic and we would have had to do so much more to get the work done. This is a load off our shoulder

Was a customer for over 25 years. Was involved in an accident which totalled my car... 100% loss. My car was 6 months from being paid off. Though I provided sufficient evidence for the fair market value of my loss, they refused to consider it. They were rude and condescending to me. I got a bit of justice when I was notified of a class action lawsuit against them for doing the same with others several years later. I joined that suit knowing I'd probably never see much out of it.. which I didn't.. but in the hopes that it wouldn't happen to other people. It was a horrific experience trying to deal with Farmer's. Their left hand doesn't know what their right hand is doing. BUYER BEWARE!!...

trollhair says "Nationwide is on their own side" about Nationwide Insurance

Nationwide is only looking out for their own interests. One of their insurers damaged my mint condition vehicle. When I asked for diminished value compensation, I had to jump through loops, provide detailed documentation and then they offer me $1500.00.

My car is damaged goods. It is not in mint condition. It is a wrecked car. Doesn't matter that the body damage was fixed, if you run a carfax report on my vehicle, it will show that it is DAMAGED. If and when I trade, I will not be able to obtain what my car should be worth. I was ripped off. What they don't pay, I am suing their insurer.

*******If you are hit by a vehicle, be sure you ask for compensation for diminished value and pray that it isn't Nationwide who is paying out. Rip offs.
...

A little over a month ago my town was hit by a very severe wind and hail storm. Hail golf-ball size and larger and winds up to 120 miles per hour occurred over a 20 minute period of time. Meteorologist said we would never see this again in our life time. Trees were down everywhere and almost every house in town suffered some type of damage. We received estimates for all of our damages and it was a little over $30,000. We have had an insurance adjuster to our house twice and we have received less than $10,000. My main issue is that we need a new roof (estimated >$20,000). They say we suffered very little damage. I find this hard to believe. My two next door neighbors and my two neighbors across the street are all receiving new roofs. They agreed to sign a statement which I showed to the adjuster. I just found out from one of those neighbors that everyone on our street is receiving a new roof due to hail damage and lost shingles. Either this was an act of God or...
...

Car Insurance

I switched over to Farmers Insurance a couple of years ago after moving into Texas. They were recommended by a friend as a great company. When I first started dealing with them they were great as long as they were taking your money. Once they had me hooked as a customer the rates jumped month after month. When I called I would be told my agent was out and would call me back but he never would. I finally caught him in the office and asked about the continual jumps in my premiums and he said everyone in Texas was getting higher premiums. All this and I hadn't had a claim for years and years. I started checking prices and quickly found several companies that were quiet cheaper and people that I felt much better dealing with and companies that would appreciate my business. I have since moved to Kentucky and kept this same company. I stayed with Farmers for about two and half years and should have moved much quicker than I did. I would not recommend them at all.
...

State Farm Insurance company is a great company to rely on for your insurance needs. My husband and I have had State Farm Insurance for car, motorcycle, boat, renter's, jewlery, and emergency medical insurance for several years now. While you may hope that you never have to use your insurance, unfortunately unforseen things happen. And when they do you want to have a company like State Farm behind you. Over the years we have had cars break down and get towed, which State Farm always paid for. We have had a couple of car accidents, which they took care of. We have visited the emergency room, which they paid for. I have even lost my engagement ring an State Farm paid for a new one. Every claim that we have made has never raised our insurance rates. We have always been very pleased with how hassle free every claim has been and how much money they have paid out for us. There may be many insurance companies out there with cheaper rates, but you get what you pay for. When...
...

friendsoflamar says "A good deal if you don't feel lilke shopping around." about Geico

I was attracted to Geico because of the commercials with that gecko. When I found out that the "GE" in Geico stood for "Government Employees," I zeroed in on the company. I didn't feel like shopping around because I would have had to have filled in all my information all over the place, which I obviously didn't want to do. So I went with Geico. One thing that irks me about Geico is that it charges a $4.00 "convenience" fee for paying my six-month premium in monthyll installments. You should definitely take this into account when calculating the best deal. Another thing that irks me (which I had already known about) is that there is no one to run to in your neighborhood when you have to file a claim. I have never actually needed to do this (knock on wood), but the mere prospect of having to do this over the phone is scary to me. I trust Geico to do its job when I need it to -- it is a reputable company with many policyholders.
...

I use Shelter Insurance for my car & home insurance. Although I don't own a boat or recreational vehicle, I have friends that do and they have coverage with Shelter Insurance as well. I found my local agent to be very friendly and helpful in obtaining insurance. He looked at my previous coverage & matched it with a better price. He explained the difference between Liability only coverage-where someone I hit would be covered, but not my own vehicle-and what many call full coverage but is actually a comprehensive policy where both my vehicle & the other vehicle is covered if I am at fault in an accident. He explained options like deductables and medical pay for my auto policy. For my home insurance, a similar process was done. He explained my coverage, which is actually a cost estimator to rebuild my home.

State Farm is one stable company you can count on when you need assistance. I've had them for over 35 years and thankfully, I haven't had to use them much, but when I did, they were there for me right away. No waiting for days for someone to come out and look at the situation. No hassel for getting repairs done or claims paid. They didn't raise my rates. I've never hesitated to call and question something or make changes to my policies and have always gotten a quick response and friendly service by the staff. Granite, I've not experience the horrible hurricanes of the south, or the tornadoes of the Midwest, so service may be different, just from the scope of the natural disasters and views may be totally different. I can only speak from my personal experience and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this insurance company to anyone looking for a loyal, and stable company to handle their personal needs.
...

USAA arbitrarily raised our homeowners deductible from 1% to a whopping 2% for wind & hail damage. The peril which I am most likely to suffer. What I don't understand is that it usually decreases premiums to carry a higher deductible but in this instance they raised both? We called to try to buy-up to 1% but they don't allow it anymore. We are stuck with the 2% even if we were willing to pay additionally for a lower deductible. I am going to have to shop elsewhere for my homeowners insurance due to lack of choice in deductible. Unless you have a large savings account to pay this steep deductible, I suggest you look elsewhere for homeowners insurance.
...

I was a 20+ year customer with Nationwide and my father has had Nationwide coverage for 40+ years. I have unfortunately been involved several accidents and all have been fairly cut and dry as the other driver's fault. I will add the caveat that here in Charlotte there is a horrible mix of drivers. In most other places I have driven people drive in a like manner and you can predict what someone may do. That's not the case in Charlotte! It's so bad here I once pulled off the road to prevent the person behind me from hitting me and they pulled off all just to make sure they did. Any way, with almost any other insurance agencies they seem to want to resolve the issue as quickly as possible and to your satisfaction, with Nationwide I have had claims drag out over a year when it was a simple collision claim, and I was their customer and they could care less if I was satisfied or not! What finally drove me to leave Nationwide was an incident where a pizza delivery guy was speeding in my neighborhood;...
...

thumperdrummer says "Good luck getting them to pay out " about The Hartford

After having a total loss house fire and dealing with The Hartford for 6 years to get payments I can say this:

-	You'll need to get the Georgia Insurance Commissioner involved with your claim in order to get your original house loan paid off. They took over 3 months to pay it off. Note, they would not return my phone calls until I got the Georgia Insurance Commissioner involved.
-	They repeatedly lost my internal contents claims receipts, and required me to resend them at least three times. Often it would take them more than two months to pay contents claims off.
-	You can count on them to be very sarcastic and disrespectful when you start talking about rebuilding your home. I suggest tape recording your conversations, that changed their tone quickly.
-	They will argue over the rebuild cost of your home even when you have multiple estimates from reputable builders. There again, the Georgia Insurance Commissioner office helped a lot on this issue too.

abblasi says "Geico makes buying insurance easy" about Geico

Geico makes buying insurance easy. It is all handled online, without the need to speak with a representative to get your policy in place. Managing the account online is easy after it is open, with all communications handled online. Makes life simple. The invoices are sent by email, and payments can be directed automatically from your registered bank account. No paper mailings, no lost invoices, missed payments, and other risks with paper mail, billings and payments. The prices are very competitive and are generally lower than the other large insurance underwriters. It is a great company to do business with and I highly recommend switching to GEICO. Plus, if you add cars or drivers that can all be handled online without long waits with customer service personnel. If you have the need for an umbrella policy that can also be handled and you can also handle those affairs online, view your account information, print policy documents, print insurance cards and update information.
pitcherday says "USAA has great customer service & great premium rates" about USAA Banking and Insurance

I first got a USAA checking and savings account because my husband was active-duty military. They are pretty much a totally online company. But that meant I wouldn't always have to close accounts at one duty station and move around my money everytime we PCS'd. You must always use another bank's ATM's which for the most part charge you a fee. USAA reimburses you for all ATM fees incurred. You get a rebate for using your check card for non PIN based transactions.

It's good if you get direct deposit. They give you free postage paid envelopes to send in paper checks should you need to deposit them. They say the funds are posted to your account the day they receive the check, not when it clears. I have only sent them 2 paper checks. They both took almost two weeks to show up in my account. Even though USAA is strong and hasn't had any organizational problems, I don't put all my eggs in one financial basket. So I use my local bank for paper checks.

They also offer free basic checks. There...
...
