mypointsdillard says "One word "AWESOME"" about Sony - KDS-55A3000 55 in. HDTV Television

A new adopter of this 55-inch set, I have a few caveats for those who are thinking of plunking down the dough. First, if you are not planning on going all-out digital with your television broadcasts, then forget buying this unit. Any non-digital/non-high-definition source will look totally grainy and pixilated on the screen. This is not the fault of the TV or of the manufacturer, SONY. Basically this type of TV, like all HDTVs, is meant for digital television viewing. Watching normal TV on this set is hard on my eyes because the image is sometimes fuzzy and sometimes pixilated, and I can see some artifacts and ghosting.

However, if you can get digital cable or HD satellite (DirecTV, Dish, Voom) then you're good to go. Mind you -- these companies also provide an antenna for "off-air" viewing, which means to get local HD television broadcasts, you must use an antenna (pointing in the right direction of course) to receive the signal, but this is free. In fact, if you want to skip digital cable...
...

I actually won our Samsung 50" HDTV television so I feel awkward complaining about it but I must be truthful. We received it brand new and fully packaged. The first year the TV was grand and worked just fine. Than we moved out of our former residence and I'm not sure what exactly happened but when we set up the TV in our new home we only got a half screen of picture with sound. Only had this very pricey television for a year, we were still covered under the original manufacturer's warranty so they came out and upon examination said that they would have to order a new part. It took close to a few months to have them come out and replace the part once it came. The Samsung repairman told us that this particular model was very sensitive to moving. By the time He got it back up and running...we were grateful to have our television back. Roughly around six months after this, my husband was getting ready to watch a baseball game when the television screen turned black. ...
...

For Christmas last year my husband and I each got to choose one big gift for ourselves. I chose to get myself a new laptop and he chose to get a new big screen tv (big suprise, right!). After doing a lot of research we found the Mitsubishi 60 inch DLP Flat screen tv for under a thousand dollars out the door. I was very hesitant on buying such a big tv as well as spending so much on a tv, but this choice has proven its self time and time again. The screen quality is amazing and the HD channels are outstanding! I never thought there would be a big difference between digital channels and HD channels, but boy was I wrong! This tv has stood up to a three year old constantly throwing things at it (lovely child, I swear!). The remote control is also quite nice, but we can not figure out how to connect it to our other devices.
...

Hi my name is Kelly and I hope to clear any bad thought away in your head about the HDTV Sansung TV. Well really what I'm going to do is be truthful. The truth is this things is awlsome. If you have'nt seen one of these TV'S go see one. Look at how clear the picture is. If you want, you could see the bumps on sum of favorite stars faces and laugh cuz you know wat they going threw. The sports feel like your almost feel like your almost in the game. I got hooked after the first day I brought mine home. Also it make your house look like it has a little more class for sum strange reason. Another thing is it's great for video games. You try playing halo 3 on this TV better yet play fightnight round 3 or anyversion just to see how realistic it looks. Then play on a regular Televison, you will see very quickly how much different and better things is looking. It's almost embrassing how pitful an old television fails to compare.
...

The average American child watches close to three hours of television a day. If computer time and video games are added, this number tops a whopping 6 1/2 hours. By the time we are 70 years of age, we will have spent anywhere from seven to ten years in front of the tube. In this column, I'd like to first take a look at how all this TV time may be affecting us, then consider how we might use all that time a little more wisely.

Children and teenagers are particularly vulnerable to the messages they see and hear on television; young children are vulnerable due to their relative inability to distinguish reality from fiction and teens due to their desire to conform to their peers and fit in. So what exactly are those messages?

Unmitigated media exposure puts children in touch with a good deal of violence. One study showed that children's programming actually contains more violence than adult-geared shows. Television violence tends to be glamorized and often goes unpunished. Exposure...
...

The RCA 50" hdtv is the worst purchase I think I have made. First the bulb explodes, but the bulb is not under warranty, then the color wheel burns out around $500 later the tv worked again, now the color wheel has burned out again 9 months after the the other one was installed. I called RCA since its not under warranty (this all began when the warranty ran out)" they can't help me, I need to take it in and get it fixed" my question was will I have to buy a new wheel every 9 months? They can not guarantee parts. I think I have a $2,000 paperweight. I feel like I pouring way to much money in this set, if I would have given up I could have bought a new lcd or plasma with the money that's in this one. Terrible, terrible purchase by the time I get done I will have an extra $1100 in this set in repairs and they won't give me any guarantee it won't be more because "no one else has had problems with this tv"
...

We became empty nesters this year and so decided to down size in everthing except for the Television. I just hadn't quite made my mind up, what size was going to be big enough so we finally found what we we're looking for a 56" Samsung HD, nice and sleek and talk about a picture, wow outta this world. How's this Sound To You:

We really got a deal on ours. We were looking at them in peace and thought o.k. we'd go ask more about it. As we turned the Corner to the Kiask what spotted our eye? Yep, the 56" w/o a box. At Circuit city, now out of Business. The open box would just be one that someone returned that means usually nothing wrong just someone who decided to go bigger or decided they couldn't afford it, but for the new buyer it means big bucks. We had it for about a week and decided it takes too long to get bright enough so back it went, We got another one same price in the box!

I have owned this Zenith television for 8 years and have moved it to several locations. The quality of this product overall is tremendous as is the picture. The screen can be viewed from all angles - not just in the front of the set. The design fits into our furniture scheme very well.

Our grandchildren enjoy watching their movies and playing their video games on the big screen as opposed to the one we have set up in their play area which is a smaller television.

This model doesn't stick out too far from the wall as most of the older big screen televisions do. We refuse to watch our other televisions - once used to a big screen ya just don't turn back to anything smaller - except for a computer monitor, of course! lol

The television is on rollers which makes it easy for me to rearrange or clean behind it. The television in encased in an easy to clean material, too.

We have been very satisfied with this television and when we do switch to a flat screen (soon) we will certainly...
...

We bought this 73" Mitsubishi big screen TV last year and it is great. It wasn't one of the most expensive, but it has a very good picture, good color and we really like it. It is HDTV and cable ready so we didn't have to buy any additional box to get the HD although you do have to pay for the service through cable or satellite. It makes watching sports events or animated movies more pleasurable with the size and distinct picture. Before buying it we read reviews and some people complained about the fan noise. I don't know how they hear it with the tv on, even on low volume, and we've had no problem with it. When you turn the tv off, if you get up close you can hear a small sound, but it really is so low you would have to be trying to listen to it. But it was one of the negative things we found on reviews, so it's included here. It is light weight, has good sound and works very well with our Bose surround sound. We are very happy with it.
...

The Samsung series DLP HDTV's are some of the best quality DLP televisions on the market today. I realize that many people are looking for 2 inch thick LCD or plasma technology these days but I suggest you consider DLP as a much more budget friendly solution to your HD needs.

As with many HDTV's the samsung series has plenty of features and offer 1080p resolutions. To get a bit technical if you're curious about resolutions and how it works read the next paragraph...if not scroll down to the conclusion.

Tech jargon incoming. There are two different signals you will hear about. Interlaced (that's the i) and Progressive Scan (here is your p). A TV picture is broken into frames...like a frame in a movie...it comes to your set at a 30 frames a second. Interlaced pictures divide the picture into half and paint your screen one half at a time every sixtieth of a second. Odd number of lines first sixtieth then even lines second sixtieth of a second. On bigger screens this becomes...
...

We purchased the RCA Scenium 3.5 years ago. It is not working, again. The light bulb burned out after a little over a year of use. After spending 225 dollars on a new bulb the tv worked fine. Now, after making some noise, the tv will not turn on. From what I have read it could be one of the fans, or something worse. I am debating between bringing the tv in for repair, or just throwing in the towel and buying an LCD. If it is going to cost me another $1000 for repairing it I would rather take the money and buy something new......like a Sony, or Toshiba. The RCA DLP has a nice picture when it works, but it is not worth the expense of trying to keep it running. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT UNLESS YOU HAVE A LOT OF MONEY FOR UP-KEEP!...

THEMAMA00 says "This is a GREAT PRODUCT" about Samsung - HL-T6187S 61 in. HDTV Television

We bought the 50" version of this television after having our RCA big screen go caput. In one day I had dropped $2000 in crappy electronics in the back of a trash truck. (NOT A HAPPY FEELING) We researched for over a month before purchasing this TV. We have found that it is everything that we wanted and more. The picture is fabulously clear, it is lightweight and was very easy to move and reconnect when we moved. Having the dual HDMI ports made it very simple to connect to the sattelite system as well as the XBOX 360. The only thing that I don't really like about it is that super shiny piano black on the front it is super tough to keep clean when you have three little guys running around. ...

Samsung HDTV Television. We had been looking to replace our Huge Out of Date TV with something that I am able to move by myself, with out a forklift. And we foound a true gem in this TV. You can carry it with one hand...love it. And the picture is truly amazing as well as the set up and all the ports of connecting almost anything to it. Use of the HDMI cables really allow this TV to show its true picture. And the sales that they run on these are truly amazing....

namanari says "Great TV but a few misconceptions" about Samsung - HL-T6187S 61 in. HDTV Television

We had this tv for almost a year now.I Love it , Work great!! The newest version have picture-in picture and i'm jealous. Anyway , hubby was the one who made a purchase so he probably tell u more than i do. Here is the review from my hubby :

OK, I'm picky, but read on :) I'll try not to state the obvious about bulb-less (LED) TV's but there was a small misconception when purchasing this TV.

PROS:
Excellent picture (duh!)
With true RGB Light (ala LED's), the result is very deep colors
Makes a *GREAT* PC monitor, 1080p at it's finest
Lightweight, 75lbs
Skinny dimensions, fits nice and close to wall

Neutrals:
With lightweight comes flimsiness, cabinet flexes easy.
Cooling fan, why promote a device as "solid-state" (e.g. no moving parts) when it's not?

CONS:
The onboard speakers are !!AWFUL!!
Only 3 HDMI ports?

NOTE: When first purchasing this TV I was under the impression it was "solid-state", I was wrong, there is a cooling fan that remains in operation while the TV is turned on. This may...
...

jmcturnan says "Don't even question buying this high-end value priced HDTV" about Mitsubishi - 57 Inch HD Television

Why I Chose the Mitsubishi WD-57733

I researched DLPs, LCDs, Plasmas for a year while anticipating moving into a new home. Read everything and demo'd it in stores

Professional review after review made it clear this set was competitive with plasmas $1000+ more (e.g. Pioneer Elites, top of line Panasonics).

PROs

Stunning HD picture quality (I am a dishnetwork satellite customer)

Very good ~ much better than average standard definition picture quality

Easy to use remote and menus

CONs

None. Absolutely none.

NOTES

Needs DIY calibration to 'blow you away' - I used Video Essentials DVD. This is not a "Con" as all HDTVs need this to look good

At about 15-18" deep it can not be hung on a wall. However, it is quite light and can be lifted very easily by 2 people

...
