kiddo6669 says "Good, but not as reliable as I would like, maybe I'll slow down." about Cobra - 360 Laser

I do a lot of highway driving and have found it to be helpful a few times, but I have been pulled over twice with this radar detector. Once it wasn't the radar detector's fault because the highway patrol officer pace clocked me. The last time I was pulled over my radar detector never made a sound. The officer even made a comment when he came up to my window, "That didn't save you this time did it?". Thankfully I didn't receive a ticket, but it was close. The reason for it not making any indication that an officer had a radar on me may be due to it being a little older than modern technology. I like the option of safety vehicle warning if the vehicle is equipped with it, but it doesn't give you enough warning. I have found I can see the vehicle before the warning goes off. Not a timely warning at all. I do like the fact that it has the ability to detect from behind your vehicle. Overall I would say I would buy another Cobra detector.
...

Flamingo112 says "Another excellent Cobra detector!" about Cobra - XRS-9950 Radar Detector

Cobra's recent XRS-9950 Radar Detector is really a great unit and while it's usual market price of $159.00 or so was high, even for such an advanced model, I got it on a clearance sale at autothing.com which had it for about $99.95. Even with the autothing.com price, I also got free S&H, so you now know the floor-price for this unit if you can find a similar deal.

The unit is a mix of faux-chrome, gray and charcoal colored plastics. The color LCD screen is really impressive and functions like a GPS device, but truly it's just a compass in terms of mapping abilities. The sound effects are great and while the automated voice function (robotic female) is neat, it starts unexpectedly and the stops mid-sentence depending on the occasion.

As for detecting radar, I don't believe it's better than cheaper models, but it presents such revelations (police activity) in a much nicer package than most Cobra or competing models. It's a bit on the heavy side too, so make sure the included suction cup bracket...
...

The cobra radar is very good. It has many features. One is the highway mode. Which is used on he highway to pickup the radar in a longer distance. There is two city modes. They are used to in a city so it doesn't pickup all the false alarms. There is also a very good feature which is the stop light feature. Which when you come up on a light with a camera it alerts you. It also lets you know if you are speeding. There is also a auto mute feature. Which that is very nice to have cause the cobra can get annyoing. It also has no false readings. It picks up one false reading then never picks it up in that spot again. It has a 360 degree radar on it. which then it can pick up a radar anywhere it it is. From the side to the back of you it will pick up the radar. There is also a talk feature on it. When the radar picks up something the radar tells you what type it is. It picks up x-band,ka- band and a few others. There is also a vg2 feature which is good for when a cop trys to block his radar.And...
...

I truely love this product this is the best invention yet. I love my Cobra radar detector. It has saved me a load of times. it is worth every dime you pay for it. it has two modes city and state mode. it has the three hundred and sixty degree alert it talks to you and it will pick them up about 2 or 3 miles sometimes before you get to them, it will give you just enough time to slow down before you get to them. you should really own one if you are a lead foot, on the road a lot, travel a lot exspecially if you go out of state, or even if you have had one to many tickets. But any ways back to the stuff it does you can mute it if you dont want to hear it and it will still light up so even if you cant hear it is a good little gadget to have cause it blinks red and will do that all the way til you pass them up and then some until you get out of there range. i love it so get on to the store and pick you one up they really are worth the money and they really are not that high. believe me i...
...

This Cobra ESD-9000 Radar Detector is a low end model for Cobra. It's very old I bought mine in 1999 or 2000 I cannot remember. It has done the job for many years but could be better. It responds to all kinds of radar taken by the police up to date. It has City/Highway Modes, Front and Rear detection area, VG-2 Alert, Audio and visual alert types, Detection bands: X Band, K Band, Ka Band, and Laser. This radar detector has a nice big Mute button on top. The price is right for the basic options of this radar detector. It does give out false alarms 40% of the time and the sensitivity is low. The safety alert seems useless and goes off all the time with nothing happening. Its black, kinda bulky and falls off my windshield a lot. It has 3 purple buttons on top Mute, Dim, and City. I wouldn't recommend this radar detector to anyone, I do like Cobra brand and recommend a better newer model but not the ESD-9000. It may be cheap, like $25.00 but NOT Worth IT!
...

pointman1 says "The gsx9000 has saved me hundreds of dollars." about Cobra - gsx9000

So I cant even begin to explain how much the gsx9000 has saved my butt. Now dont get me wrong i am an excellent driver but sometimes i do get the "lead foot". Everytime a cop car is in the vicinity this little guy alerts me so i know i need to travel exactly the correct speed limit. No more tickets for me. This thing has a range of over 200 yards and hasnt failed me yet.

I am not really a techy kinda guy.. i can read the instructions and figure everything else out for the most part but sometimes man there are some products out there that can really be a pain in the ass. Not the GSX9000! I figured it out in no time and it only took me about 10 minutes to setup and mount to my car. Now no matter where im at and no matter how fast i am traveling i always know when and where to obey the law. I see no real problems wit the product except for the faxt that i had to go out and buy the mounting screws myself.. that was kind of a bummer.
...

The Whistler XTR-695se is the next step in lower cost, higher end radar/laser detectors, a step up from its brother, and previous version, the 695. The 695se (Special Edition) now includes (new for 2009) "Ka Max Mode" which dramatically increases the sensitivity to Ka-band radar signals. This is a certain benefit, as 90% of police speed detection methods are estimated to be Ka-band radar guns. But you live in Ohio and are concerned about LIDAR, you say? Not to worry, the 695se doesn't skimp on laser detection; although no radar detector on the market can really "do" anything to prevent laser guns from acquiring your speed (at a near instantaneous rate), when Laser Veil 64 Stealth Paint is applied to the headlights, in combination with the 695se, lasers can essentially be avoided. The sexy female voice of the 695se is quite the addition to your car, ready to warn you of an impending "....Laser...." You'll know what I'm talking about if you purchase this detector. Overall, for...
...

The Whistler XTR-695 Laser/radar detector is a very good dector for the price. This detector features 360 degree protection. Laser detection radius (X,K,Ka,SuperWide Band). It has a 72 Point digital compass- display shows compass headings. This detector also detects POP mode radar. The display is a blue backlit LCD text display. The alert either have blue LEDs that flas when the unit alarms or it be set to the off position. This detector also has VG-2 Cloking technology. There are 3 city modes, high gain lens, selectable tone alerts, selectable bands, stay alert, and dim and dark modes. It also has quiet/auto quiet modes, alert priority, setting saver, vehicle battery saver, and safety warning system. This dector provides adequate warning. This dector is easy to use and provides superior protection for the price. This unit is sleek, compact, and very easy to use. I would recommend this detector as compared to other high priced models.
...

First, an admission, I'm not nearly as aggressive a driver as I was in my earlier years. It seems my migration to South Florida has helped mellow me. Sure, like most drivers I exceed posted speed limits, but these days I avoid extremes.

First of all, around town here in Boca Raton our traffic signals are timed such that speeding seldom gets you to your destination any quicker. You seem only to get to your next red light a little sooner. So, with gas creeping back to $3.00 a gallon, where's the payoff?

But on our highways, I like most Floridians give myself a little more leeway . Our highways almost seem built for speeding. They're smooth, virtually pot-hole free and usually feature wide lazy curves. Who can resist? It's a rare individual who can resist driving above the posted speed limits. I usually give myself a 10 MPH over allowance, but at times have been known to stretch it a little more, especially if it seems that I'm just pacing traffic.

I have had many radar detectors since I have been driving and the Cobra XRS 9740 is very impressive. I actually purchased two for both my wife's car and my truck. The day I recieved it I plugged it up, turned it on, and was attempting to install it on my windshield when it said "Ka Band Detected". I was wondering what button I accidentally pushed when I noticed a sheriff's car coming down the main road outside of my subdivision. The distance on mine is outstanding and my wife has had the same results as me. Some people have said it is difficult to program, but I found that it was extremely easy. Also it comes with a short coiled cord but I ordered a long straight one (item #420030N001) for my truck. My next door neighbor liked my XRS 9740 so much that he ordered him one and he loves it too. I have seen some of these one star reviews and just have to laugh! Radar detectors do not always work, or they work too little too late. Some police cars you pass may not have the radar on so don't assume...
...

Technology today prevents most radar detectors from being much good. Yes, the Cobra does alert you when there is a cop, however, it doesn't alert you until you are already in the radar and ten feet from the cop. It works if you simply want to know there is a cop for no reason other than knowing. If you are one who likes to depress the gas pedal and get from point A to point B as quickly as possible, without interruptions from the local sheriff, don't depend on this radar detector to prevent that from happening. I think the cops are getting a little smarter today. If you want a good one, you're going to have to pay big bucks for it.
...

I have used many different radar detectors and the Valentine One (V1) stands head and shoulders above the others. Tests by many independent reviewers show the range of the V1 far exceeds any of the others. By the time many other detectors alert you to a possible threat, it's too late. You've already been nailed.

One of the best features of the V1 is its 360 degree detection capability. The V1 not only tells you there is radar in the area, it tells you which direction the radar is coming from. A radar coming from the side is usually non-threatening and can be ignored. The V1 tells you if the radar is ahead or behind you. Because of its excellent detection range, you have ample opportunity to adjust your speed if required. The sensitivity of the V1 picks up the faintest instant on radar before you get into detection range.

In addition to its positional capability, the V1 dis[plays the number of radar threats. Many juristictions use multiple radar units. The V1 will tell...
...

The AURA database-housed in a small GPS fob connected to the main detector via a USB port-is maintained by Cobra, and updates can be downloaded straight to the GPS device via the Internet. The GPS' functionality also enables the XRS-9960G to display your cars' current speed, and a GPS based compass; way cool! The GPS Locator fob/module is extremely compact and easy to remove, making updating very easy via an included USB cable that plugs into any available USB port on your computer.

My Viewpoint The XRS-9960G is a pleasure to use right out of the box. It has an easy to see/read...
...

Some have criticized the Valentine One as being heavy and bulky. I personally care for its solid construction, although it's lighter than other more streamlined appearing detectors. Valentine's convey a sense of being chisled out of billet steel (actually the case is magnesium).

Whenever I see a Valentine One mounted in the windshield of another vehicle, I know the driver is a serious one. When I drive with the Valentine One, I notice I tend to get followed/flogged more by would-be freeloaders on my tail than with any other detector. There is a reason for this and I understand the desire of Valentine owners to want to hide their detector from view with the optional remote display.

Shortcomings? Sure. A couple of minor ones. I still struggle with the suction cups losing adhesion (it seems to alway be one or the other) from time to time. An automuting capability would be nice or at least a push button (a la Bel/Escort) on the power adaptor to spare me the reach to the windshield every...
...

everettslove says "Very Satisfied!" about Cobra - XRS 9430 Radar Detector

I finally decided to buy a radar detector because it seemed that teens driving or college kids get harassed the most at the end of the month by the authorities for little things like having an air freshener hanging from your rear view mirror or got 3 mph over the speed limit when it gets toward the end of the month. I would have to say it is the best investment I have made and I bought the Cobra XRS 9430 and it works wonder. It isn't as annoying as other ones I have seen and it is easy to figure out. I would definitely recommend this product!...

The whistler de-1730 is well worth the money I payed for it . It has saved me from a ticket several times. I would recomend this to all you that have a problem with speeding. Even the ones that say you dont .My wife turns it off when shes driving she says she dosen't speedbut she is the one always getting the tickets. The whistler is easy to put in your car and really works great. One time my wife got pulled over for speeding and the officer ask her if she was using the whistler she said if I wer you and I would not be having this conversation. Which did not go over to well with him or me cause iI had to purchase anouther whistler after he confiscated that one....

mfbeets6 says "Whistler DE-1730 - The Cheapest Detector Which Has The Potential" about Whistler DE-1730 Radar Detector

Whistler DE-1730 - The Cheapest Detector Which Has The Potential To Save You

The Whistler DE-1730 is one of the cheapest detectors that I've ever used. I compared it face-to-face against the Cobra ESD-6060 which costs about the same. The Cobra may look better with its display, but the Whistler DE-1730 actually manages to scan out police radar and provide some early warning. Here's what I found with the Whistler DE-1730.

-Price-
*The Whistler DE-1730 is a very cheap radar detector. You can find it for about $50 and less. I wouldn't recommend buying a detector for so little money, but at least you're not getting a pile of crap with the Whistler DE-1730. It may not be the best looking detector, but it does provide good X-band coverage, and barely sufficient K and Ka band coverage. If you can't spend more than $50, then the Whistler DE-1730 might be the ideal detector for you, don't go bother looking at Cobra or anything else. Whistlers are known to provide good performance at a low-price, and...
...

ybrandy53 says "Dont look for any other brand because this is the best one." about Cobra - XRS 9430 Radar Detector

The Cobra XRS 9430 Radar detector is the best one ive seen yet. What I like about it is that the lights are ultra bright which makes it easy to see. Also it has Voice Alert which is awsome because instead of having to look at the detector and taking your attention off the road, all you have to do is listen. Would recomend this radar detector to everyone I know looking for one. What makes this the best radar detector is the price. It has alot of the same features as the spendy ones and some that the others dont. But the price is way far cheaper than the others....
