trkrbear says "Great radio..Unbelievably bad customer service" about XM Satellite Radio

XM is actually a great way to hear great music...unless you manage to get somewhere that blocks the signal (like under a tree/bridge/garage). Their customer service however is the worst I've EVER experienced.

Example...I attempted to buy ANOTHER radio from the XM site. But I couldn't because they locked my account..why? Because my credit card expired within a month. It didn't matter that my account was paid for 120+ more days, or that the credit card in question had not expired yet. "customer service" in 'India' refused to do ANYTHING until I gave them another credit card (which I refused to do)...The poor guy kept trying to make that sell.."If you will just give me your credit card information",,,That was call #1

Calls 2+3 didn't get me anywhere either (in fact I've been on hold for a supervisor for 52 minutes)..so I'm just going to cancel this stuff and play Pandora in the car.

Bob20002000 says "they will automatically renew your account without authorization" about XM Satellite Radio

XM radio does not have good customer service. I had a 3-year subscription, and a few months ago my unit stopped being authorized before my subscription ran out. 2 long calls with their customer service did not help, so I told them to cancel my service.

Now they believe that I owe them money because they automatically renewed my service- even though I cancelled it. It took much yelling to get the renewal cancelled. I would never, ever use them again.

Internet radio will soon be available in cars everywhere, so I will just wait for that and XM can go away. My IPOD gives me all the music I want anyhow.
...

I have used XM for about 5 years and enjoyed the music. I recently closed my account to save money and they charged me any way. I have called them three times and each time they say they have credited my account and it will appear on my statement in 72 hours. I think they are trying to make ends meet in this bad economy by charging their customers even when they cancel and then apologyizing and delaying the refund. The music was good but regular radio is just fine and it doesn't cost you. I have to say my husband used it quite often at the jobsite and found it very good. If you go with XM make sure you want to stay because they will charge you any way. I originally was introduced to the product through a free trial when I purchased a new car. We still have Xm in a new truck we purchased and will keep it until the trial period runs out. In fact we were going to sign up for an additional period before all this started with trying to get a refund buy have decided not to.
...

I used to love having XM radio. It was amazing service, no commercials for a slight fee. But, about 5 months ago or so they merged with Sirius Radio and it has been the worse service ever. The songs are all repeated through the day, they talk most of the day, and the worse besides the same songs, the talking is the commercials! I called to cancel why would I pay for a service that is just like a regular radio station. Save your money unless your a person who likes specific music, such as AC/DC, then this is a great service for you. For those that like variety or new songs on the channels that are to be current songs and no commercials SAVE YOUR MONEY!

*This is for a radio already installed in the vehicle.*
...

My biggest exposure to XM Radio came with my 2006 Saturn Vue I purchased as a retirement gift for ME! Listening to XM for the first free months had me hooked..... I now pay for my service by a 2 year contract to get the best value for my money. We even bought a portable unit for my husband to use in his vehicle and then move to the motor home when we go on trips..... We cannot imagine not having the XM choices and variety of music, sports, weather, and talk radio.... Only problem we have encountered is the antenna reception with the portable unit....it is not as strong as the unit in my Vue......

I recently purchased an XM radio and I have been very happy with the service they provide. The choices of music channels are very well-rounded, and one can always stay in touch with current events on the many news channels that are available. The monthly fee is about 50 cents per day, and it is worth every penny spent. If you are tired of the same old programming on your local radio stations then XM is the way to go. I purchased mine at my local Best Buy store, and I highly recommend it as a great gift this holiday season!!...

We travel by road quite frequently and XM iSatellite Radio ss always with us. We have our favorite channels and never miss out on news or have a variety of comedy or music to choose from as well. It's very cost effective, but we're finding a lot of the channels are sneaking in commercials and this is what we thought we were paying for - commercial free radio. The only downside is when you pass a stand of tall trees you lose reception. Now, that's funny considering if you go under a bridge you DON'T lose reception - go figure!
...

I started out with XM radio on one of those units that you stick to your dash and it plugs into the cigarette lighter thing. It worked great and I loved that no matter what state I was driving through there was a great signal and good music.

Then I went out a bought a new truck that had XM built in. At first I missed being able to see the name of the artist and the song at the same time, and I missed not being able to set it to tune to certain songs or artists that I liked to hear more than others...but I got over it!

I do love the variety on XM and that I can listen to it anywhere that I happen to be driving but I must say...I thought that XM was supposed to be commercial free, I mean that's why we have to pay for it right? Well I think that if you are paying for radio you should at least get to listen to it with out commercials. I'm not saying that they are real bad...you get usually one (slightly longer than normal) commercial every so often, but it's during those moments that I end...
...

I enjoy my portable XM satelite receiver because I can listen to it in the car or in the house. I can record the songs I like and listen to them later or over and over if I want to. It's so cheap for me to get the pre paid minutes anywhere. Actually about to purchase another receiver so if I want to take the portable receiver to work I can and have another in the car. The only thing I don't like is the portable receiver in the car does not get good reception when it's cloudy and you can forget it if it's raining....

I thought my husband was quackers when he said he wanted to get an XM radio for the car. I'm like, what's wrong with the regular FM/AM stations? Well, he talked me into it (he always does) and we got one for our van.

Well, to me, regular radio has nothing compared to XM radio! So what is XM radio? XM radio is a service provided my XM where you receive satellite radio stations in your vehicle. You receive over 230 stations of all types of genres. I enjoy listening to the Christian station, Radio Disney, The 60's station, XM Hitlist, Flight 26 and more. You can also listen to theater productions, old radio shows, The Weather Channel, traffic stations, sports and more.

It costs between $19.99 and $149.99 or so to get the radio for your car, if you have it installed professionally, you have to add those costs to the product. You can pay monthly or yearly for the service. The longer you pay for, the cheaper it is per month.

We have it and I won't go back to the regular radio. Okay, I do listen......

I've been an XM subscriber for over 2 1/2 years. Now it's become the background of my life!
My favorite stations are 202 and 164. 202 is the Virus, which plays Opie and Anthony and Ron and Fez all day. I am a much bigger fan of Ron & Fez...they are more of an edgy, intelligent extreme talk show, while O& A can have more of a frat house humor. Both contain "extreme language", but you can have the channel (and other channels such as extreme rap and metal) blocked. 164 has old time radio shows. Now, I am nowhere near that age....but it's really cool to fall asleep to real classics, such as the Lone Ranger, The Shadow, and Jack Benny. XM has many news and sports stations as well. The only problem is, they all run commercials to an extent. Only the purely music channels are commercial free. The reception at home is fine....however, my husband brings a portable unit to work, and he tends to lose reception. You can, however, record up to 5 hours of programming,......
