Dread0009 says "With top-notch video resolution, incredible viewing angles" about Archos - 605 WiFi 80gig

With most portable media players, what you see is what you get. But with any Archos product, the gear you buy is a base to which you can add additional features, for a price. Some accuse Archos of skimping on features to maintain an artificially attractive price, but you can also think of it as Archos allowing their customers to purchase only the features they want. Either way, the out-of-the-box 605 comes with most of the features people want in a PVP, and plug-ins--such as high-definition video playback, Internet radio, and others--cost only $20 a pop. Unfortunately, to truly take advantage of the 605's Wi-Fi, you need to spend an extra $30 for the plug-in. For your $30, thankfully, the Opera browser is Adobe Flash-enabled (unlike a certain ) and works exceptionally well. Need to type in a password or a URL? The 605 WiFi's touch screen presents a responsive, iPhone-esque QWERTY keyboard. If you need one good reason for paying the extra $30 on the Opera Web browser, it's that any...
...

Dread0009 says "Mac and PC compatibility, built-in speaker, integrated kickstand" about Archos 5 Wifi (60 GB) Digital Media Player

Despite the manufacturer's protest that Archos 5 shouldn't be categorized as a mere portable video player, video playback is the Archos 5's strongest feature. Out of the box, the Archos 5 offers support for AVI, WMV, MPEG4, and Flash video content with no transcoding necessary for videos sized at or below 640x480. Although Archos makes no mention of it, we were happy to see that DRM-protected WMV videos from Amazon's Video On-Demand service played on the Archos 5 with no problem. For an extra $20, you can outfit the Archos 5 with a high-definition software plug-in to enable 720p video playback from WMV HD, MPEG4, or MPEG-2 files (including VOB and DivX formats). To play h.264 videos, you'll need to throw another $20 at the Archos 5 for a Podcast media plug-in, which also enables AAC audio playback.

The music player of the Archos 5 is essentially identical to the 605 WiFi, although the design is more elegant. By default, the music player supports MP3, WMA (including DRM-protected files),...
...

Dread0009 says "Small Conv ienient. Can clip on, really not noticable." about SanDisk Sansa Clip (2 GB, 500 Songs) MP3 Player

Or several stacks of dimes, anyway. The SanDisk Sansa Clip+ is very similar to its predecessor in design, which means you still get an ultracompact shape (2.1 inches tall by 1.3 wide by 0.4 inch thick), a light weight (0.9 ounce), and a superhandy built-in belt-clip on the back of the device. That said, there are some notable--though very minor--differences between the physical aspects of the Clip+ and its predecessor. First, the player's control pad is square rather than circular, though it is the same five-way configuration, with play/pause, track FF/RW, and a contextual menu button surrounding a center select key. Also, the dedicated volume rocker has moved from the right edge to the left (under the standard mini-USB port) in order to make room for a MicroSD card slot. And SanDisk has eliminated the hold-and-power switch, electing instead to add a power button to the top of the player and integrate hold functionality into the home key on the front.

Perhaps the most obvious change to...
...

Dread0009 says "Nice Portable Sony Name Walkman Style" about Sony Network Walkman NWZ-S545 (16 GB) Digital Media Player

Sony did not skimp on the construction of the X-Series Walkman, which is modeled after a with its glossy face and back plates wrapped in a glittering textured edge. The player is made of sturdy metal and has a weighty quality that makes it feel as expensive as the price tag insists. It's not as slim as the iPod Touch, measuring 3.8 inches by 2.1 inches by 0.4 inch, but it's still quite pocket-friendly, and the 3-inch OLED display is nothing to scoff at. Our one complaint is that the shiny surface is extremely smudge-prone and nearly impossible to keep clean given the touch screen interface.

Of course, the fingerprints are easy to ignore thanks to the fact that Sony went above and beyond with the interface, which is the best touch-screen utilization next to the iPod Touch. In fact, it's the only other touch screen we've come across that's actually fun to use. It has the "bounce back" effect when you are quickly scrolling through a long list, and a rather cool and unusual tilted scrolling...
...

What Can I say about this ipod but it's really great. This ipod tops all other ipods that came out before this one. One word I can say about this ipod is that it's 'great'. It has all the best applications that I want in a machine. It not only come with all the application I want but it also has a touch screen for me to play games. I love the fact that I can play games which I love to do when I want to stress out. I also love that I can add all my favorite songs which I my taste changes from day to day and I can add all the oldies that I love.

Apple ipod touch 8GB also has application that I can watch all my favorite movies and tv shows and I can add music that I have on my cds that is collecting dust in my home. Apple company did a great job in creating this little machine. The Apple iPod touch is everything you want in a machine that you can carry with you anywhere.

the ipod is one of the most popular electronics devices in this era in my opinion, but for good reason too! the ipod can be used for almost anything, those boring back seat car rides, for walking, jogging, bike riding, hanging out in your room, playing video games, or in the classroom! lol. it is an eay device to work, not much knoledge for technology needed to figure it out , just a computer and i tunes and you can start downloading your music and or video clips. I have one and use it all the time, its almost like my bestfriend. I use it mostly in my truck though because I dont have a c.d player or even a good radio, so I hooked up my f.m reciever and now I can listen to all my favorite music with out having to change the channel all the time, or change c.d.s. theres no need to buy all those pescy batteries eithor because you can plug it into your computer and in a couple of hours you will have a fully charged and opporational ipod. if you want to get the most for your money and love music......

I use the ipod touch mainly for the internet browsing and phone calls. There are many other features of the ipod touch, such as playing music, playing video, playing games, etc. I take the ipod touch as a convenient way of having a tiny computer in my palm, and a replacement of phone at home. Overall the battery life is good (normally two to three hours for my personal use per charge), the screen is crisp and the software/os is stable. The enlarge/shrink function of the touch screen is especially handy when the safari browser is used. With the help of many applications available through itunes store, it makes the ipod touch very attractive and productive to use.

The on screen keyboard is not easy to use but I can adapt to it. The availablity of the skype on ipod makes it virtually a phone with the help of the microphone.

The ipod touch itself is pretty light, and fits in the palm with comfort. Apple is great at creating the visually stunning while practical and useful products.

Just like its phone-wielding sibling, the iPhone, the iPod Touch is a touch-screen device with a glass-covered 3.5-inch screen that sports a 480x320-pixel resolution. In spite of its touch-screen interface, Apple includes a few physical buttons, including a slim volume control on the left edge, a hold switch on the top, and a home button on the face of the player, placed below the screen. The bottom edge of the Touch includes the same universal dock port and 3.5-millimeter headphone jack as previous models, piercing the otherwise unbroken expanse of chromed steel that wraps around the back and edges of the device.

The shape and dimensions of the Touch also remain unchanged (4.3 inches tall by 2.4 inches wide 0.33 inch thick), defined by a flat-glass front set inside a curved steel backing that feels natural in the hand but makes the iPod a little wobbly when you set it down on a table. Packaged with the Touch is an Apple universal dock connector USB cable, a pair of white earbuds that include...
...

Many current music players are capable of doing a lot more than just playing music. And the latest Apple iPod touch is not an exception. It is a full media players equipped with innovative functions such as Internet, WiFi and an option to play YouTube videos for example. The Apple iPod touch came in a surprisingly compact box; only inches larger than the iPod touch itself. The iPod touch comes with a fully loaded battery, so it is not necessary to charge the battery before using the iPod touch. Even the date and time were set correctly on the iPod touch we received. Enough reasons for our partners at LetsGoMobile to test the iPod touch and offer you an extensive review.

Unfortunately the iPod touch has not been equipped with a ditigal camera. It is possible however to synchronize the photos from your computer with the iPod touch through iTunes. Once the pictures are on your iPod you can watch them by touching the Pictures icon in the main menu on the iPod screen. Clicking on a picture will...
...

I love the iPod. Always have. At home, we have five, including this one: the 4GB iPod nano black.

Before you leap, realize two things: (1) this iPod is extremely fragile compared to other iPods, particularly the tough-as-nails iPod mini (a drop of a couple of feet onto a linoleum floor took out the screen); and (2) the black version gets scratched very easily, and shows scratches far more than any white iPod I've owned (after a day and before dropping the damn thing, it already looked awful from scratching -- and it was treated with kid gloves).

Okay, if you can live with those caveats, and invest in a durable protector (we bought the arm-band holder, which does a lousy job of protecting the iPod nano)--none of which are out yet--then this new iPod is truly an amazing bit of technology. It's tiny (it feels even smaller than the photos suggest), has great sound quality (better, I think, than any other iPod I've owned), and the display is gorgeous (even though tiny).

For me, the mini...
...

Ok, on to the review..I just got my 80 gb ipod classic recently with a 3 year extended service plan, immediately got itunes version 7.5 and upgraded the firmware immediately to 1.0.3 which seems to have taken care of A LOT of bugs people have been reporting. It must have because I am not getting ANY of the problems other have reported such as laggy clickwheel, itunes freezing etc. The clickwheel is VERY responsive, only a light touch is needed and scrolling through cover art was very quick! No problems whatsoever with the clickwheel. I also have had no problems copying files to itunes and transferring them to my ipod. The ipod itself is a thing of beauty, love the non scratchable surface but the back of the ipod is where you can see all the fingerprints etc so get a good cover for it. The slimness of it is very sleek and heck this ipod just looks cool. I got the ipod up and running in no time after I transferred my music over. Love the search feature as well.
cookiemonster202 says "if u put in your pocket it will break." about Apple - iPod Nano 3rd Generation Media Player

PRICE: As just about every anti-iPod reviewer mentions, THE IPOD IS MORE EXPENSIVE AND DOES PRETTY MUCH THE SAME THING. The iPod is basically the BMW of mp3 players...the other mp3 player work like, and cost about as much as a Kia. They all do basically the same thing, but the cheaper ones are cheaper for a reason!

SIZE: All three players are smaller than a walkman, so it's kind of silly to even discuss this, but it seems to be a hot topic in the other reviews. From largest to smallest the players are ranked as follows: Lyra, Zen, iPod. The Lyra is the only one of the three which will not fit easily in your pocket. It is the widest /longest /heaviest of the bunch, and personally, I hated the way it felt in my hand. The Zen and the iPod were both a pleasure to hold.

CONTROLS/NAVIGATION: iPod gets first place here simple because it's touch sensitive navigation wheel allows you to get from the first album in your collection to the last in seconds and it stops on a dime anywhere in between....
...

I will buy it

The Classic's most impressive design improvement is its dramatically overhauled menu system. One of the most striking changes is a split-screen main menu that displays the selections on the right half of the screen and a picture related to the selection on the left. For example, highlight the Music selection on the main menu, and the right half of the screen displays a random, drifting close-up of cover artwork from your music library. This same effect accompanies menu items such as movies, podcasts, and photos. Some might write off this split-screen effect as pure novelty, but the end result is quite beautiful. The Cover Flow system, for browsing your music collection with an emphasis on album artwork, finally makes its Classic debut, although Cover Flow does lose some appeal when not on a touch-screen device such as the iPhone. We also found a noticeable amount of lag using Cover Flow. Users with large music collections to sort through will prefer browsing using the list...
...

pp2a says "Good but not better than Ipod" about Samsung P2 (8 GB) MP3 Player

I think it is good for us to use it

Although it's noticeably smaller at 3.8 inches by 2.0 inches by 0.4 inch, the Samsung P2 resembles the iPod Touch more than any other MP3 player. Like the Touch, the P2 offers virtually no tactile controls, instead relying on its face-dominating (3-inch) touch screen for interface navigation. The similarities basically end there--the player's interface is decidedly less Mac-like than that of its iPod counterpart, but we daresay this is a good thing. Back to that momentarily. Rounding out the physical characteristics of the P2 are a mic hole, proprietary dock, and headphone jack lining its bottom edge; dedicated volume controls along the right spine; and a play/pause/power button and hold switch on the left side. There's also a multicolored, circular LED below the screen on the front that we originally thought might function as a home key; however, it is merely a visual status indicator.

So back to that interface: It's awesome. In the Samsung P2's settings,...
...

dannyg28 says "Easiest and quickest" about Apple - iPod Touch

I purchased quite a few Ipods in my day from the Microsoft Zune to the ipod touch. The Zune is not a great item due to the fact that it has no compatibility with an apple computer whatsoever while an ipod works easily on both the apple or a PC. The Apple Ipod Plugs in and Synchronizes music in a matter of minutes rather than hours. When I got the first ipod I was listening to music in about ten minutes when I got the Zune it took me hours how to figure out how to put music on to the device and the quality was not there at all. Every Ipod I own is Great but my favorite is the ipod touch I bought an 8 gigabyte one and pluged it in and in a few minutes it had loaded my music and I was able to download applications that were free or cost a few dollars and they all did cool things. I also had some ipod videos and they loaded quickly and played great. The new ipod touch has built in speakers which work great but the availability of Ipod docks is great and some are not too expensive...
...
