I had just started my first home theater system and bought 2 infinity primus 150 speakers and an infinity ps8 subwoofer. With the 150's only having a 100watt max power rating i needed a a/v reciever that had alot of goodies, a decent power rating that wouldnt fry my speakers, so all of that led me to the onky TX-SR304. This reciever set me back $180 at circuit city, very cheap for a 5.1 reciever (plus a low end onkyo can match most higher end recievers in sound quality due to their sound filters). This reciever has 65 watts per channel so it wasnt going to burn my speakers up and should be able to power most speakers. The reciever has pro logic 2 and much more that some of the higher end sony's and stuff didnt have. The manual can get complicated at times, but is pretty straight foward on most sections. Set up is a breeze, and will organize your wires so its not a jumbled mess. It also has a plug for a powered subwoofer which is alway a big plus. Very good reciever,...

This is a new component I added after giving away all my very OLD stuff to my ex-husband. I found this unit not easy to work with if you are not tech savvy. I had to go over and over the instruction manual and play with the unit quite a while before I got the desired results. I also had to make several trips to Best Buy to ask them about hooking up the different components I had bought. I didn't find the unit or the manual very user friendly. BUT now that I finally have it hooked up, it is great. I love the surround sound with the new speakers I bought. There is also an AM and FM radio. If you are new to the tech world, I would be cautious about buying this...

davidnp says "Awesome sound, finicky remote, overall very happy!" about Onkyo TX-SR605 7.1 Channels Receiver

I've had my new receiver for a week now. My last one died the week before. After doing several review researches for what has the best bang for the buck, I chose this receiver and so far am very happy. — The remote is a little finicky... While I have been able to get it to do the basics for my other components, I can't put them away. — The auto EQ worked very well for me. I feel that the sounds are very crisp and the dialogs are easier to understand/hear. My speakers are old and very in age with the oldest being 24 years old... Sony APMs; my front channel, Center is a Bose center... Sub-Woofer is from Yamaha and my surround are Bose 301s. No rear surrounds (yet). — I felt for the money, this is a very nice receiver. I spent more on my old one about 9 - 10 years ago. So, for less than I spent then, I have a receiver that should keep me happy for a long time to come. — I took my time setting it up... Wasn't hard, but wanted to be sure since it was a new one. I...

The Yamaha RX-V3800 is their upper-mid level A/V receiver. It features 140 watts/channel, 7.1channel, HDMI 1.3 (allowing decoding of advanced audio codecs like DTS-Tru HDMA, etc), and video upscaling/deinterlacing of analog sources up to 1080P. — — It is a fairly heavy, well built unit that can e intimidating at first glance, even second. Still, the manual does a very good jo of explaining hook up, and set up.
This is a great product. It has more than enough power to drive huge speakers without working up a sweat. I keep mine on @ 15 hours a day 7 days a week. I have FM radio on most of the time and CD's the remainder of the day, The sound is stellar and I have never cranked it up to 50% volume (I sometiomes like music really loud. This is the second Onkyo receiver that I have owned. The first one lasted 20 years with lots of use. This is a high quality, high performing bargain in terms of the competition. It is reliable, powerful and easy to use. It has all of the features that you want and need. I highly recommend this...

I purchase this receiver on line. Based on the evaluation it appeared to be an excellent deal for the price. Once received, it did not operate as the manufacturer had stated. It had electrical shorts, and just kept shutting off. I had to fight with customer service in order to get a replacement, well within the purchased warranty since I had only had the unit 3 days. First replacement was damaged on receipt, and finally after a heated debate with customer service I was finally shipped a functional unit.

I'm a musician with a very discriminating ear. And I am incredibly happy with this soon-to-be-discontinued digital receiver from Panasonic. It has a myriad of connections and much better sound quality than most receivers twice as expensive. It is still available on Amazon for about $170--a big price drop--as the next generation of receivers is right around the corner. It provides great 5.1 and is able to handle either 6.1 or 7.1 (I'm not sure as I don't have the speakers for it anyway). The only drawback is that it doesn't pass HDMI, but for this low price, you can't really expect it to do so. —...

Wow, after 6 good years with my last Onkyo 5.1 DTS Receiver which decided to pass away while the maid was cleaning behind the stereo..(odd coincidence)... I had / hmm / choose to replace the unit. Since I did get good 6 years service out of this Onkyo product I decided to stick with the brand. Maybe I shouldn't have, but I've let enough time go by that it would be inappropriate to return the item. — Issues... Upon unpacking the receiver and setting it up, (good instructions if your not familar with how difficult a multi input HDTV system can be) I tried to run the 'autolevel' feature of the system. I tried again, and again, and again. I could hear the slightest noise coming from a speaker, but the microphone that came with the unit didn't work. In talking to customer support at Onkyo (which is readily available and eager to help) I was told it was most likely the microphone (little cheap thing) and to return the unit to the place I...

Bottom-Line: The Sony STR-DE935 works and works well. This is an A/V receiver well worth the investment. — Oh the joys of satellite television (except when a thunder storm creeps in the area) mated with a solid A/V (Audio/Visual) stereo receiver. When I got divorced, the wife got my NAD setup as part of the settlement; I grieved but not for long. Not long after I remarried I started laying out the components for my new A/V system. This time around I would forgo the separate pre-amplifier, amplifier, and tuner, and just purchase a good A/V receiver capable of delivering at least 100 Watts per channel into 8 ohms of resistance. — The receiver also had to have the ability to output in 5.1 surround sound through at least two sets of speakers simultaneously. And although I did not plan to purchase another turntable right away, I needed the ability to add one to the receiver in the future. After much research, I...

I used to be an editor for a trade magazine in the television industry and this had a few perqs. One was that I occasionally was given equipment to use, so that I could better understand the technology I was writing about. One of these was a Zenith HDR230, an off-the-air HDTV receiver with a built-in digital recorder. It is something of an odd-duck piece of gear with some VERY cool features. — What It Is — The Zenith HDR230 has two primary functions: It can receive digital TV broadcasts either off-the-air or over a digital cable system, and it can record this digital stream on a built-in hard drive. I have my unit connected to my rooftop antenna to receive free digital broadcasts. — The HDR230 is an attractive unit, standing about three inches high, 17 inches wide and 13 inches deep. On the back panel is an assortment of analog connectors that allow you to connect this receiver to standard-definition (SD) monitors as well as high-definition (HD) monitors.
This receiver is my first upgrade since a Kenwood receiver I purchased back in high school. I must admit the Kenwood had some serious sound behind it but since I'm not into just volume as much as a nice home theater set up with true surround sound, I dont miss the extra decibels too much. — The many inputs (both digital and analog) and HDMI capabilities are great although it can be a bit tough to go through the setup process the first tie to assign all the inputs. I do wish it had more than just 2 HDMI inputs however so I can connect not only my HD Dish receiver and PS3 but also my mac mini that I have set up as part of my theater system for iTunes and web browsing on the big flat screen from the couch. — One weird feature that I can't figure out is the Zone 2 capabilities. It lets you connect a 2nd set of speakers (say for a porch) but it can only play analog signals! Why in the world they didnt set this up to accept a digital signal is beyond me...
