I bought this garmin over a year ago. I ALWAYS get lost, so when I had to commute to college which was a good 25 minutes away, where i've never really driven around, it was a must to get. The garmin still works as great as the day I bought it. The only problem i've ever has is with construction and routes being messed up. Definitely update your maps, or it'll tell you to turn off a overpass randomly. From all the use i've done with it, and the times where i've dropped it, it still works awesome. It has a lot of features, you can definitely personalize it to your likings. The cars can be changed, and you can even download more for free off their website. The voices which tell you to turn and whatnot can even be changed and downloaded too. The garmin also views jpeg images which you can get off of a regular SD memory card. The garmin has the SD card slot on the side. The GPS charges off a regular USB charger, which is included, and charges pretty quickly. All together, the GPS is very great...
...

I am not a techy person in any way, but I love having access to technical things. I bought a GPS for my husband for his birthday, and he loves it. I was very hesitate to buy one, thinking we could look up anything or anywhere we needed to go on the intranet and print off the directions. I feel like I know the city I live in fairly well and felt we had no need of one, but my husband really wanted one, so I caved. I cannot tell you how pleased I am that I bought it! It is user friendly and very easy to use. I love being able to look up the closest restaurant or where the closest pharmacy is. There are so many functional aspects to it for almost anyone. I also love that we can save locations, even if they are in the wilderness, and not on a common road. I also love that I can change the voice. I now feel like I need the GPS, and it has become part of my every day life. What a fountain of knowledge it has!
...

liay says "Great Person Saver" about Garmin - Nuvi 200

This GPS, like most others in the market, are life-savers for any traveller. Be it a trip to the new supermarket or a vacation across the country, the Nuvi 200 will set you up so that you don't get lost along the way. Forget Mapquest or Google Maps, the GPS gives me directions and maps in real time as I am driving so that I always find my way and reach my destination safely and on time. Before reaching a turn, it always alerts me a decent distance before the intersection (and not at the last minute, unlike some other older models). The fact that you can save destinations and even listen to music are useful features of the Nuvi 200. What's even better is that it isn't even priced that high. With Black Friday coming up, you could get the Nuvi for a decent price for $100 if you know where to look. This would obviously be a great gift for anyone who can drive, but you can also use it on a bike ride or on a walk if you feel like it.
...

My husband is a truck driver and he owns a Garmin Nuvi 205W and he swears by it. We just recently moved from my home state of Ohio to his home state of Mississippi. He stays out 5 weeks at a time. He figured since he is hardly home that I need a navagation system to find my way around. I was apprehensive at first. I don't adapt well to modern technology sometimes. But I can honestly say that its the best investment I think we have ever made. I can go explore anywhere and not have to worry about finding my way home or getting lost trying to find where I am going. I love the feature that you can look for a particular address or you can search for what type of place you are looking for, such as fast food restraunts. I didn't know alot about the area here and what all was around here but with this feature I can find exactly what I am looking for before I even leave home. It tells me exactly how many miles it is away from me, what time I will arrive there, and even with the current gas prices,...
...

maggiemay321 says "The Motorola Motonav Tn20 GPS is a great buy for the price. " about Motorola - Motonav tn20 3.5" Navigation System

I recently purchased the Motorola Motonav Tn20 GPS Naviagtion System from Target online for $79 plus free shipping so it was a great bargin. It has text to speech so it alerts you of street names and adjusts for night time driving. The unit includes a car charger but there is no wall charge included. There is an SD card slot for updated maps which I haven't found any documentation about how to use yet but I intend to continue searching for. My last GPS was a Pharas brand that never updated the maps so it became outdated after a couple years. I'm hoping that I can downing new maps to an SD card and use them on the Motorola unit. Also, this is Motorola's first GPS so I wonder if there will be any map undates coming our from Motorola or not or if they will even stay in the GPS industry. The Tn20 has a touchscreen that responds well but there is no stylus included. The screen is a bit smaller than my previous GPS but its really not a problem. Overall, the Motonav TN20 is a good buy for...
...

ahappyhousewife says "I love my Garmin Nuvi 200W...usually" about Garmin - Nuvi 200W

I really love the Garmin Nuvi 200W...usually. I love the wide screen, and the turn by turn instructions. I like that you can hit the alternate route option if you run into a road clossed or a lot of traffic. I like that you can search by specific topic, like hotels, or parks.

I don't like that if I travel with it from one state to another via plane it has a hard time finding the satellite and assumes you're still in the last place you were before you turned it off. And I don't like that it comes so full with languages and such that you don't need which take up so much space on the GPS that downloading an update is next to impossible without purchasing extra memory. But I think that this may apply to all GPS brands.

For the most part it does the job and does it really well, (better than the Tom Top that I borrowed before getting my own Garmin) but if you're in a rural undeveloped area you may wish you had a good old fashioned map instead.

The Garmin Nuvi 350 has been such a wonderful addition to our vacations!! It has a some what slow startup (in my opinion, but I'm a little impatient) but once it's ready to go it's FABULOUS!! The unit is very good about finding the most direct route using major roadways, but is also able to get you to a direction from the middle of no where (I've been "rescued" by it more than once). It offers some outstanding features like - restaurant finder... imagine this ... you are driving along and suddenly start to feel hungry, not only will it give you a list of local restaurants, but it will break it down by type (American, Mexican, Asian...) and will tell you how far each is an in what direction before you "select" it to see additional details. It gives you the address and phone number, and if you have a Bluetooth compatible phone it will dial the number for you and provide "speaker phone" functionality for you. You can also look up locations by name (or by ANY word in their name)...
...

I actually could not decide between the Garmin Nuvi 255w or the 750 model, so I decided to buy them both for comparison. I mounted them both to my car windshield and gave them various addresses to find together. I found that both models took the same routes and announced upcoming turns and street names at practically the same time. One thing I noticed about the 255w was that it was updating my position on the road more often, I'd say about 3 times as often as the 750. This made for smoother graphics on the 255w of the vehicle moving along displayed roads, where the 750's display was more of a "jerky" movement. I also found that the display on the 255w was a bit brighter, clearer, and more vivid than on the 750 in both daylight and at night. Another feature I like on the 255w is the graphic turn indicator in the upper left corner, which the 750 lacks. This is a small arrow which shows upcoming turns and the distance to that turn. It also show things like a fork in the road, (ie: a Y intersection),...
...

I am a directionally-challenged individual, unable to determine left from right without some forethought and cannot say with any certainly whether I am facing north or south at any given moment (I blame my mother's insufficient nurturing for this). And maps are so utterly useless to me that I'm quite certain they are intentionally written in a language only understandable by males of our species. It is for this reason that I daily worship the person who invented the GPS, and the Magellan Maestro 4250 has been a purchase I've yet to regret. Using the 4250 is logical and effortless, compared to a few other GPS units that I've sat with for more than a few moments (hours?) trying to decipher how to navigate through menus. It also has some nice features to allow you to 1). find the nearest gas station, restaurant, etc. from a given point 2) avoid toll road, highways, etc. 3) bypass current path 4) mark points. It also allows you to input personal data such as AAA information for immediate...
...

My husband is into gadgets big time and this was a Christmas gift for him. He travels a lot for work and wanted something that was more convenient than maps. I compared prices online and decided to spend a bit more on what was then a newer model GPS. There are, of course a lot more bells and whistles available but the c340 has voice navigation, sunrise and sunset automatic screen changes, shortest route, fastest route, and detour recalculations. There is also an optional traffic update subscription we opted to fore go. We've been all over the country with this thing in the past three years and it has been reliable every time. We never worry about getting lost. We like the freedom of just getting up to go and the the GPS has definitely made that possible. You can look up addresses, attractions, restaurants, accommodations, points of interest, etc. directly from the unit. When the search results display there is a distance next to each option with an arrow pointing in the general direction....
...

Even though the TomTom ONE 125 is basic in looks, it delivers the need for accurate direction which are clear and easy to understand.

The instrument has two menu pages displayed on a 3.5inch touch-screen, which offer easy navigation, large icons, and are easy to follow.

One has the ability to change map colors, the auto-populate feature of filling in possible addresses while keying them is great. The keyboard is compact, which at times causes fat-fingering of data.

The device comes with a USB Cable, a Easy Port VehicleMount, Car Charger and Reference Manual. The maps loaded are only of United States and the destinations can be searched via address, intersections, cityplaces or zipcodes. Options for long or short routes is available, including regualr landmarks, gas stations etc in it's database.

Favorites feature can also be utilized for frequently visited destinations. For the inexpensive price, it is a great tool for direction challenged

VictoriaKan says "The Garmin Nuvi 255W is the perfect GPS for a family on the go!" about Garmin - Nuvi 255W

The Garmin Nuvi 255W is really the perfect GPS unit for a family on the go. My husband and I had considered purchasing a vehicle with the GPS unit built-in; however, after much consideration we decided it would be better to purchase a GPS unit that we could take in any vehicle with us. Imagine if our family car broke down and we had to take a different car on a trip? We would be without GPS. And since my husband gets lost often and (of course) refuses to ask for directions, we went on a hunt for a portable GPS unit.

We wanted a unit with a large screen and clear maps - both of which our Garmin has. But we were also looking for value - we did not want to spend hundreds and hundreds on a unit that we would use maybe three or four times a month. We just did not see the point.

Our Garmin was a great value! We paid less than $300 for the unit and stand (plus 3-year warranty on the unit). There was a windshield mount that came with the unit, but we didn't want to leave marks on the inside...
...

I got for my birthday a Tom Tom One 130-s GPS. I never really wanted one, but i decided to try it out. For someone who isnt all that tech smart it was easy to use. The screen is a little to small for my eyes but i can get past that and the only other drawback i seen was that to move the page around the finger nail was needed, not just the tip of the finger. kinda hard to do and drive at the same time. it could use something like a stylus with it. the directions it gave me were acurate, ( i already new how to get to where i was going , and back, but i wanted to test it. when i wouild make a turn that it didnt have mapped out for me it would imediatly correct itself and put it back on course with my new way i was going. there are many options to play with when i comes to loudness and brightness so i was able to lighten it up and see the screen better. and it was able to ajust to my middle of the way changes.

I bought this GPS to help me when I was a traveling saleswoman. Definitely MUCH better than online maps and directions printout! The GPS is easy to use and fits perfectly on my dashboard. It's big enough for me to properly see where I'm going, but not too big that it obstructs my view of the road.

The voice commands are great, it helps me pay more attention to when I should start getting back in the right lane on the highway before it's too late. The only thing is that at times, the voice commands and screen instructions do not match the actual map instruction. For example, I see the road highlighted clearly shows that I should make a right turn ahead, but the on-screen next turn instructions says I should keep going straight and so do the voice commands. I have found that in this case, you should follow the map directions, which does make you wonder at time why you have voice commands if you always have to double check the directions.

I like the different routing functions on the unit,...
...

Garmin Nuvi 255 is something I would not leave home without. On a daily basis my family uses this device to navigate ourselves to our destinations. With the touch screen pad and the voice talking to you, you are able to get to where you are going without having written directions to keep looking at. In busy traffic? The non irritating voice talking to you calms the nerves of not knowing exactly where you are. The directions on this unit are easy to understand and walk you through the screens with ease to help find your destination. Looking for a gas station or restraunt? One touch will take you to the place you choose. This unit also tells time of arrival so you can plan your trip without showing up late or way too early. It does not have a traffic component on it so we always try to give ourselves enough time to hit traffic jams. All in all this Unit is farely inexpensive but has the options of a high end unit.
...

Recently purchased the Maestro 4000 for a trip to Philadelphia from Boston. I considered other Magellellan products (3100, 4040) and other brands but liked the screen size, AAA database and price ($335 when purchased, now down to $299). Overall the product worked very well.

Navigating the menus is relatively easy, Magellan keeps your options simple, Entering an address, looking up a AAA Point of Interest, setting or canceling a route is a matter of point, listen, click. In fact my wife, not a gadget gal, found it easy to locate tourist sites in Philly without any help.

I found the system to be very accurate, particularly when directing me through confusing freeway on and off ramps. The split screen visual when taking a compound off-ramp is very helpful. The AAA database is extensive though it doesn't contain every listing you might like (for example, I could not find a single Friendly's Rest. listing...though many other chains are located).

Did not have any problems with freezes over a...
...

arundhatich says "Feel confident anywhere" about Garmin - Nuvi 760

since when It came to my life I am simply worry-free. I take it anywahere when I go for a visit. It is superperfect. Just I would expect it to have a better satellite accepting power. It takes a while sometimes to initialize while the signal strength is not good. Otherwise, I like it. You can spell the store ..or seach a type of restaurants. and it finds for you within secs. Now, I cannot imagine a life without this. You can also opt for avoiding tolroads or seasonally closed roads right in there. It works good with its blue tooth. So, I donot need a bluetoothf or my phone. However, some new roads I found that it could not search for. charges very quickly and the battery power is also very high. It automatically detects the night mode. It always finds shortest distance. also, I find the nowadays it has become so damn cheap that I could say it is a good value for money. I recommend my friends and families and want to gift one to my parents.
...

blahsblah2001 says "The Garmin Nuvi is sometimes useful. " about Garmin - nuvi 1690

Okay, we have nicknamed this 'GLADoS' after the evil computer from Portal.

It does really well once it's up and running, but if you don't turn it on the same place you turned it off, it can take upwards of ten minutes to locate you.

It can only be used in a car. Try to use it while walking and the map spins like a gyroscope. You can't even use it as a map because it's constantly rotating.

Once, in the rain, it told me to take a right hand turn onto a one-way road. Thankfully it was nighttime and I was not killed.

It has toll avoidance- kinda. There's no intelligence there whatsoever. I was driving from Cleveland, Ohio, to Bangor, Maine, and I told it to avoid toll roads. Instead of telling me to get off at an exit, drive ten miles on a back road, and get back on the highway, it told me to drive a few hundred miles west, then North around the great lakes, and up into Maine through Canada. This would add about three days to a 15 hour drive.
...

TawnyLee says "Garmin gets you there and back easily!" about Garmin - StreetPilot c550

My husband got me this product for Mother's Day a few years ago, and I absolutely love it. It's very easy to use right out of the box, and extremely user friendly.

I did have an issue with the first one (some electronic undiagnosed problem), but got it exchanged, and have had no issues with the current one.

It is very easy to do the uploads to keep the firmware and software current, via their website. The update maps are kind of expensive though, but I'm not sure how they compare with other companies.

The screen is sensitive enough, but not absurdly so, so it's easy to navigate quickly and get to what you want. The preloaded destinations (businesses) were plentiful, and once you have it hooked up via Bluetooth to your phone, you can even call directly from the unit. Pretty slick!

It's pretty customizable in regards to detail amount, screen brightness, route avoidances, etc... And again, all of that was very easy to adjust.

It's easily portable to bring with me in another vehicle, and the...
...

pcake says "My Garmin Pilot has saved the day more than once. " about Garmin - Pilot

My Garmin Pilot has the female voice, so is named Jill. While vacationing we used her to get us from Phoenix, AZ to the Grand Canyon then Las Vegas. With a lot of night driving, she made the trip comfortable and not so scary in the mountains.

I use her all the time, locally and traveling to other cities. It's funny, now I ask for specific address to new location instead of visual keys (ie a restaurant, gas station, etc).

Garmin also is capable of accepting downloads from Mapquest. I haven't personally done this yet but will for my next big trip.

I drive an Altima and she fits perfectly in the space provided for their permanent GPS system. The viewer is big enough with no glare problems, and volume works just fine.

Upgrading POI and maps took a little patience. The software took a while but it may have been my internet connection.

Thanks Garmin, no more arguments with the boyfriend about asking for directions!!!!
...
