bkovacs says "The best low-cost car stereo speakers" about Pioneer - TS-G1642R 6.5-inch coaxial speakers

I've had good luck with Pioneer car stereo gear, so I looked to that brand first when I wanted to upgrade the factory speakers in my 1995 Subaru Legacy. I had previously installed Pioneer TS-G1641 speakers in another car but that model is no longer available. The replacement is the Pioneer SS-G1642R, which I bought at Wal-Mart for $40 per pair. I installed two pairs in my car. — What it is — The Pioneer TS-G1642R is a standard 6.5-inch car speaker. It has a 1.2-inch tweeter mounted in the center of the 6.5-inch woofer, which makes the speaker a "coaxial" design. The tweeter is not movable or pointable, which is a bit of a disappointment. The woofer is made from plastic, making it fairly impervious to moisture. Since I installed them in the car's doors, being impervious to moisture is important. The speakers can handle 30 Watts of continuous power and my car's stereo is rated at 15 Watts per channel, so that's a good match. The speakers are rated at 4 Ohms. You can see...

Kyle says "iPhone + Car = Heaven" about USA SPEC - iPod Interface

Why didn't I install this sooner? For almost a year, I had been looking for an easy way to play music on my iPhone in my car (a 2006 Volkswagen Passat). With no cassette player in the car, no Bluetooth A2DP capability on the iPhone, and no use for sub-par FM adapters, I figured I was out of luck for the time being. I had heard of iPod interface adapters that hooked right into the back of a factory installed radio, but I questioned if they would work with the iPhone. It turns out they do, with just a few caveats. — — The USA SPEC iPod Interface is just under $150 from several online retailers. I got mine from Crutchfield. It is a little box that sits between the radio and iPhone. The end result is one black cable that runs out of the back of the radio and plugs directly into the bottom of the iPhone. Everything else is neatly tucked away and out of sight! — — The main selling point is sound quality. Unlike other types of adapters, this one does not lower the...

I purchased the i-VW-R unit to integrate my 30GB Video iPod with my 2003 Volkswagen Passat factory stereo. I had done a fair amount of research before deciding on the DICE unit, so I was fairly confident that it would do what I wanted. Installing it involved going to the company's website to get a vehicle-specific installation addendum, which was no problem. The trickiest part of installing it was not in any way a problem with the DICE unit but rather with the factory VW head unit. Special "keys" are required to remove the stereo, and the directions for using them are clear as to how to insert them. However, nothing is included about how to REMOVE the keys. There is plenty of information warning about how improper use of the keys can permanently damage the radio, so I was a bit surprised that there was nothing about taking the keys out. Once everything was in place and the stereo was fired up, I had access to my iPod just as...

Great product. I would recommend this to anyone with younger children that travel frequently. We just got home from a 5 hour car trip (one way) and my 1 1/2 year old was amazingly quiet and cooperative with the DVD player on. — — The only problem we had with the player was that it was kind of difficult to hear one the highways/interstate because of the road noise. We solved this problem by plugging a cheap FM transmitter up to the headphone jack and listening to it over the car...

This little gadget definitely exceeded my expectations for a radio transmitter. We just used it on a trip from upstate NY, through NYC, onto Long Island (you might have heard that there are a lot of radio stations in NYC) and only needed to use 2 frequencies for the whole trip. Using our first setting it wasn't until we hit a station using that frequency that had a full blown signal that we finally started to get a little static through the music coming from the MP3 player. When I turned it off the radio station was coming in loud and clear. Weak stations are simply overwhelmed and overridden by the IRiver transmitter. Found a second frequency without a strong signal near NYC and was able to use that until we headed back upstate. I had another transmitter years ago with a limited frequency range and it barely worked even through the radio wasteland of upstate Vermont, the IRiver simply overpowers static and weak stations and plays your music...

I had an older Aiwa car stereo in my little pickup truck and it was starting to drive me nuts with all the skipping during CD playback. I replaced it with a Sony CDX-GT21W, which is a model number exclusive to Wal-Mart. The CDX-GT21W is identical to the Sony CDX-GT210 sold by other stores, except that the model number labeling is different. . — — What It Is — — The Sony CDX-GT21W is a fairly basic car stereo with a built-in CD player, AM/FM radio and a front-panel aux input jack. It has a detachable faceplate and a reasonable number of controls that are arrayed on the left side, closest to the driver. It has a rotary volume control, which is my preference for car stereos. The CDX-GT21W can play standard CDs, as well as disks with MP3 and WMA files. — The box includes a wiring harness and a dash-mounting sleeve for the stereo.
Pioneer car stereo speakers are the best-kept secret in the industry. For some reason, other brands are more popular than Pioneer, despite the Pioneer's often costing 1/3 the price of more popular brands. I bought two pairs of Pioneer TS-G1641R speakers and installed them in my 2003 Subaru Legacy. I paid $39 per pair at Wal-Mart for these speakers. — What It Is — The Pioneer TS-G1641R is a 6.5-inch two-way speaker designed for automotive applications. The speaker has a 6.5-inch woofer and a small dome tweeter coaxially mounted with the woofer. The woofer cone is made from plastic that will not warp if exposed to moisture and a pair of speakers comes with grilles to make for a tidy installation. — The speaker chassis has holes around the perimeter that matched perfectly with the mounting points in my Subaru. The speakers also came with a couple hanks of cable, but I was able to use the connections that were already in the car. — The Pioneer TS-G1641R is...
