We wanted a new compact camcorder primarily for the family, but also for my husband to use for the military and outdoors. This fit the bill great! With built in memory you don't have to worry about forgetting the DVD's or tapes. We also bought the additional memory card just in case, and an extra battery/case. We have had NO problems yet. Easy to attach to computer or tv, simple to use and produces excellent images. Small and easy to use and carry. Actually I think it and it's case are smaller then our old Sony Digital...

Amazingly, this is the first camcorder I ever purchased. I've always had a nice camera to record those special moment, but, never a camcorder. Part of the reason was they always seemed so expensive and I just never wanted to deal with all the different tape formats they've used over the years. — This camcorder has a built in 30gb HD and you can add a memory stick too. It fits perfectly in my hand and is very easy to use. As an added bonus, it has touch screen controls on the LCD. I love this unit and I love the fact I never have to change out any media. I can just plug it into my computer and easily transfer the movies to the computer or make a DVD from them. — It is kind of pricey, but, it's finally the type of camcorder I can get excited about. This is an older model for Sony, so, do your bargain shopping and you'll find ways to get this at a great price. I got mine at a live auction for under half of retail, brand...

Great little simple camera. I've had it about a month and still on the original set of batteries (2 AAs). Easy to use, easy to view, and easy to transfer to the computer. Great price from Amazon. One button to record, one button to playback, and one button to delete. The USB port "flips" out the side, plugs into the computer, and the software installs automagically. It comes with a cord to connect directly to a TV, but I have not tried it yet. So far, everything else has been great, so I expect the same when I do get a chance to connect to a TV...

GMRsMom says "Excellent, easy to use camcorder" about Sony - Handycam DCR-SR80 HDD Camcorder

After the birth of my son, we decided we wanted to get a camcorder. The biggest thing was finding one that would be easy to use for the non-tech savvy. I also wanted something that could take still shots as well as video. I did a ton of research and reading reviews in various places, and finally settled on the Sony Handycam DCR-SR80. So far I'm loving it! — — Instead of using removable media (tapes, cds, flash drives), the SR80 records to a 60 Gigabyte hard-drive - up to over 40 hours of video! It comes with software to either download to your computer and/or right to DVD. — — The sound quality is great! I've seen other videos where you can't hear a thing, but the SR80's microphone picks up sounds well. It also comes with a cable that you can hook directly to the TV to view videos/pictures. The still photo quality isn't as good as you'd get with a good digital camera, but it's pretty decent. And it beats having to carry a...

Purchased the Panasonic SDR-H40 about a month ago. Have been pretty pleased with it so far. Filming indoors is pretty grainy as I would suspect most cameras in this price range will be. Turning all lights on and up when filming indoors helps with video quality. Sound is OK, but good for basic use. — — I'm running it on a MSFT XP system and the software that comes with it - to pull the video files off the camera in a viewable format is clunky at best. While the user guide says to only use their software, I'd highly recommend upgrading to a more sophisticated or 3rd party video editing software vs. using the standard tool that comes with it. I'm running Adobe Premiere Elements now and it is a much better user experience -- from transferring files to editing the video. — — On the positive side, the Zoom with optical image stabilizer are very impressive features. I do a lot of outdoorsy filming and the ability to zoom across a canyon or snow field is...

This is the perfect little camera to tuck in your bag and keep with you - you'll never miss anything!! The sound and video quality are great for the price, and the ultra portability is awesome.

The camera shoots excellent film and it is very easily transferred to PC for hard copy to disc. There is a lot of difficulty in keeping the native hi-def format due to file requires several DVD dsiks to record a small hi-def film. This reviewer is very eager to own a Blu-ray writer to accommodate the hi-def files in a better way while saving the hi-def memories. It is not easy to share the hi-def files via internet either due to file size and limited mediaplayer...

Needless to say I was very dissappointed.First off,it is useless in low light conditions. i tried to record in my living room which had 2 lamps on in it and it was so grainy that it compared to a low budget webcam . Yes, i understand it is an entry level cam but it should still have a clear picture.
Not long ago I had my curiousity stirred when I saw something about the Aiptek HD Video camera. After seeing a demonstration of it on line, I went ahead and bought it. The price was a little over one hundred dollars, and if it lived up to what I had read, it would be worth it. Well, in two words, IT DID! First, the camera is smaller and lighter than any I have ever seen. It fits in a purse of a pocket. It also fits beautifully in my hand. When I have it in my hand, I feel confident and ready to take any picture. The balance and the control are very impressive. The LCD screen is large and accurate. I can quickly switch between still and video as the moment dictates. — The pictures are as clear and perfect as any I have ever seen. Whether they're taken in bright or low light makes little difference. I have a picture I took of a ski resort at night from 3 miles away through a window, and it is...

This has been an awesome little camera. It comes with a little docking station for which you plug straight up to your computer upload the video and pictures and burn them onto a dvd or burn them straight from the camera to the dvd with a touch of a button. it comes with a battery charger but no bad those are separate. A started kit from circuit city will be around $120.00 — And i recommend the Sony brand for this reason being the man sold us a different brand that is supposed to be for this camera and we got it home the bad was not big enough for the camera and any cords you would want to put in there and the batter would fit the slightly onto the camera but was to big for the camera and wouldn't run the camera. — The night vision is the coolest on this camera it works really great. it takes awesome still pictures also...This is a hard disk drive camera so no tapes or dvd's required.
My husband and I bought this camera as a Christmas present to ourselves this past year. The camera is very user friendly and is mostly self explanitory (we hardly had to look at the instruction manual) I love how small it is and easy to carry around places. My husbands parents live in Peru and he likes to send DVDs home to them every so often to let them know how life is going. This camera makes it easy to do that. — We also bought the Everio Share Station which allows you to plug the camera right into it and burn a DVD directly from the camera (acts as a regular DVD burner as well). That's a nice feature because our computer isn't doing it's best at the moment and I would have to do all the DVD making at work. The camera keeps the scenes seperated and you can choose which you want burned and which you don't. — I love the size of the screen that allows you see what you're filming, it's large enough to tell what you're actually...
