TheBard says "You'll Never Need Another Mathematic/Scientific Calculator" about Texas Instruments - TI83

Bottom-Line: The Texas Instruments TI-83 Plus Graphing Calculator is probably the last calculator you will purchase in your academic career, it is just that powerful.

Texas Instruments released the first TI-83 Plus Graphing Calculator, and upgrade of the TI-82, in 1996, and it has gone to be one of the most widely used graphing calculators for students across a broad range of educational levels. In addition to the functions found on normal scientific calculators the TI-83 Plus includes graphing, polar/parametric/sequence graphing modes, statistics, trigonometric, calculus (the Plus) and algebraic functions. Texas Instruments released the TI-83 Plus in 1999 as a replacement for the normally aspired TI-83. The TI-83 Plus also ships with flash memory, which would enable the devices’ OS to be updated as needed.

Powered by (4) AAA-sized batteries (plus 1 CR-1616 or CR 1620 lithium battery for backup), the TI-83 Plus Graphing Calculator is large unit ideal for advanced mathematics students...
...

I got this calculator years ago. I'm graduating college in 2 months (and counting!) and it's still the only calculator that I turn to for every class. The display is large and I love being able to see what I just typed in so I can fix it if I made a mistake. It has plenty of memory, so I was able to download games and other software to use when I was in a boring class. :) The graphing function is fairly easy to use and it can do a lot of mathmatical equations and functions. My favorite thing on it is the fraction to decimal capability for those days when I don't want to have to do it in my head. It is durable, and I have dropped mine many times with no problems. The battery life is extremely long too. I believe I have only had to change the batteries 2 or 3 times in the last 6 years with extensive use. Awesome calculator for anyone level of math.
...

I have had my Texas Instruments -Ti83 calculator for seven years now. I have used it for algebra, calculus, phyisics, and civial engineerings. I have only had to change the batteries three times in 7 years! I love this calculator. It is like it is indestructable. I have dropped it many times and I have never had a malfunction. It has never broken before. I also used it for the SAT and the ACT. It has a huge screen that lays out each calculation and problem you enter. It also and store calculations and formulas that you use often. It is a great scientific calculator. The calculator also looks slim and long. It has a nice appearance because of its shimmering black cover. When I first bought this calculator, I spent almost two hundred dollars on it, but it was worth it. I will probably never use another calculator in my life. I have a feeling that it will never break. I would recommed this calculator to anyone.
...

The TI 83 is one of the sweetest calculators i have ever seen. I got it 4 years ago and the batteries just recently had to be replaced. It is very helping when figuring out long problems that requires many symbols. I use it most with exponets because it works so easily with those. It is not diffuicult to use at all and i caught on very fast. It even has a cord were u can download new applications and even games. Also if you need to see a graph it is very easy, you just put in the y values and press graph and BAM the graph shows up. I do wish i had a new model of it because i would love to see how cool that one is too. The TI 83 has made my mathing life very easy and helps me get through things fast. test, quizzes, exams, or just understanding notes is so must easier and fast. The only problem is it takes you a while to get used to using it but once you do you will be so happy. this calculator is awesome
...

I have an older TI. I have the TI-82 and really like it because I just recently went back to school and it still works after 10 years. I would reccommend this to anyone that needs a graphing calculator. I would highly suggest this calculator for anyone who is going to take an algebra class with algorythms. I think this calculator is kind of expensive but it is worth it because they last it seems like forever. I have never had a problem with learning how to run this calculator. The book that comes with it is very explanatory. It is a great investment for a student of any type of education, taking a math class.
...

I first got my Texas Instruments TI-83 Plus graphing calculator when I was a sophomore in high school because I was in the advanced math courses. I continue using the calculator up at the local community college. I had games on the calculator to entertain myself during my high school classes (come on now, who wouldn't??) but I ended up losing them one time when I cleared my memory. I now have no games, and no one to connect my calculator to in order to get games on it again. I would recommend getting the cord that goes with the calculator (it's usually sold separately). As far in my math classes, I usually need instructions on how to use various programs, since theres hundreds or thousands of things you can do, but It's not hard once you know what the abbreviated funcions stand for. It works for the course, and it even provides a little entertainment if you have the games on it, so I think it's definitely worth your time.
...

Bottom-Line: Overall for a unit in this price range, the Texas Instruments TI-36X Solar Scientific Calculator provides enough power for most high-level math and science needs

It's time for me to head back to school, DeVry University's Keller Graduate School of Management that is. This time I am in pursuit of my MBA with a concentration in Networking and Telecommunications. Why pursue a boring ole traditional MBA when new technology is to be learned. So that means math; lots of math; loads of math in the form of algebra, calculus, and statistics. Did I mention that I hate math!? What does one do when one hates math? Buy a calculator of course. In this case a Texas Instruments TI-36X Solar Scientific Calculator.

Hi, I bought several calculators of the dollar tree store. Well, everyone please check and make sure that they work out those cheap stores. Because living up may be the thing with the rich folk. Well, it just does not pay to be cheap. Well, I pray that anything sown in dishonor will be raised in honor. And buy what you think will continue working. I had to return to the dollar store and return the item and get another one. Now I bought a casio and it works fine. Alot of gadgets for just calculating but it works. You know back in the olden days the way we calculated was through thy hands and mine. Well, they have calculators and mean things have just moved up. Well, anything sown in dishonor will be raised in honor. Also noticed alot of different buttons on the calculator and instructions to use it. It is awfully confusing but if you have to keep up we do. I pray that I will be able to understand every bit of it. Calculators to me to be brought with good price in mine. Agree?
...

I am obsessed with couponing and getting the best deal possible. I always have my calculator on me. I've tried several others, but for me this one is hands down the best. The Casio Dual Leaf has a large display, so no squinting to read the numbers. It's battery and solar so nice to have backup power. It measure approximately 2 inches by 3.5 inches so is perfect to slide in my pocket or purse. For such a small calculator the keys are a nice size and have a soft touch. It opens up like a tiny laptop so when it's closed the keys and display are always protected. I've put this little calculator through the wringer. I've dropped it and even stepped on it. It's still going strong. I only paid about $5 for it last year at Walmart so it's has more than paid for itself. My only dissapointment is they no longer carry it so I'll probably have to order online for a backup or replacement. If you just need a basic calculator for I highly recommend this one.
...

The Ti-83 calculator in particular I have was bought about three years ago. The calculator is a truly great tool for any student to have, and is pretty useful even to those who just need it for regular math. There are so many different functions that the calculator is capable of doing that just looking at the numerous functions can be exhilarating. To describe the calculator itself, it is large, but compact enough to not take up too much in your backpack, your drawer, or even your pocket. The buttons are large enough to be clearly seen, and not force you to squint to see the actual keys. Even the screen is bright enough to be seen in dim lighting. The Ti-83 may use four AAA batteries, but it certainly uses them efficiently. I put the current batteries it has in it about a year ago, and it still hasn't run out yet. As said before, the Ti-83 is a must have for anyone taking math class, and it's useful enough for anyone who just wants a calculator for simple calculations
...

Texas Instruments TI-Nspire Graphing Calculator

The TI-Nspire graphing calculator Item number 710167 at Staples was what my 15 year old son Daniel pleaded to buy for school. It had 2 snap in keypads to boot. It has Screen size: 320 x 240 pixels (3.5" diagonal) which is two times the size of TI-83 Plus/TI-84 Plus models. The new TI-Nspire technology was developed hand-in-hand with educators around the world.

If you return empty ink cartridges to Staples you can save like I did. I had nine dollars in store credit which made my calculator a little less than it would have been. Right now it is going for $149.99.

7 different graphing styles are there to help to differentiate graphs drawn. USB cable for software and file downloads was included. Powered by 4 AAA batteries (also are included)

Staples offers a one year product replacement plan for $9.99. We did not take this option, but it is not a bad option.
...

The Office Depot (OD-880) calculator is a good calculator to use for everyday or regular use. It does not have a paper option so you can print out a copy of your work so you might not use it for things you would need that function for. I have bought cheaper calculators but were never happy with what I got with them. I have got calculators that I do not use because the numbers are to hard to see on the display screen. The Office Depot calculator is very easy to see. The number size is big and bold. Not faint in anyway. The second thing that I hate from the cheaper calculators is the buttons. cheap calculators have buttons that have to be pushed in such a way it really slows you done ans increases your mistake rate. The Office Depot OD-880 has the best buttons around. They are very easy to push and are consistant with the feel and reaction of the presure. The size of the Office Depot calculator&******* good as well.

The TI-84 Plus calculator has gotten me through many high school and college math classes. It is so easy to use even if you are not that great with technology. I love that you can do multiple problems on the screen and keep the answers for at least a couple of math problems so that you can have the numbers if you need them again. I also love that you can download games on to the calculator in case you are ever bored and stranded with only your graphing calculator. This model is ideal for statistics as it is so easy to use. Great for everyday math like budgeting as well because you can add so many things at once. Also love that you can plug in a math problem with multiple steps as long as you know all the numbers to it and the calculator will do all the order of operations steps for you. This truly is a great calculator and Texas Instruments is a great company to buy from. If you are looking for a great calculator for you or a child who is a student, seriously consider this.

When the Texas Instruments TI 83 calculator came out (about 7 years ago... or so) it was an amazing thing. Here you could do all sorts of things... graphing, matrices, etc. However, now it seems bulky, slow, and hard to use compared to its newer cousins. To qualify, I have tutored mathematics for years so I have seen a wide range of graphing calculators. The TI-84 is a big step up from the 83 AND the TI-89 is worlds better. One of the things I find most annoying about the 83 is that it is cumbersom to correct mistakes. For example, if you type in a long equation and realize you left out something at the beginning it defaults to overwrite... so if you are not careful you end up deleting something you want instead of inserting what you are missing. And you cannot go back to previous entries (one of my favorite features of the TI-89).
...

The Texas Instruments TI-89 Graphic Calculator is the best graphics calculator I have ever used. I've worked as a mathematics tutor for years, so I've seen my fair share of them. My only warning is it is easy to get too dependent on its features and forget how to do things for yourself (which could be bad as this calculator may or may not be allowed in a particular class).

It is only slightly more expensive than the TI-83 or TI-84, but it can do far more (and it is much easier to use than either of those). It can solve equations, do matrices, diferentiate, intergrate, and loads more.

One of the best features is that is saves the last 20 or so entries you have made AND you can scroll up to those inputs and use them again. It is also really easy to go back and correct mistakes. If you give the 89 a chance you will never want to go back to and 83 or 84.
...

The TI 84 PLUS is not only easy to use, but the buttons are big so that you can see where everything is and you if you use it long enough then you are for sure able to memorize everything.

Now the greatness of the calculator will often go unappreciated by the new generations whom have always had them available, but the graphing calculator goes above and beyond the basics and will often be unappreciated by those whom do not understand mathematics and all the wonderful things this calculator can do.

When it comes to buying a good calculator, then Texas Instruments are the standard to which others are held up to. Some will buy a Hewett Packard, but they are not as user friendly and school friendly as the Texas Instrument products. For a mathematician the Texas Instrument 84 is a bare necessity's for doing your work. I would really recommended this calculator for anyone who needs to take calculus, however if you need to take things beyond calculus such as differential equations then I would definitely recommend upgrading to the Texas instrument 89.

If your college or school offers it, I would also recommend taking a class on just how to use this calculator and all the great...
...

I used this calculator in my AP calc class and it was perfect! It helped me understand calculus by graphing everything! It took the complex mathematical graphs and made them into an understandable, visual aid to understanding the class that I was weakest in. It was fantastic! It has these sick functions and you can even program it to calculate the quadratic equation. Also, from what I remember, it has this game called “block boy” in it, which is handy for whiling away a math class. But overall this calculator is durable – very important. Comes with a cover and so the screen and buttons and everything manage to stay in great condition. The battery life is long, the calculator is great. Fast working and effective. Be careful though – these things aren’t cheap and people at my old high school were known to have their’s stolen. Because it does so much, it is pretty enormous in terms of a handheld calculator, which is something to be aware of. If you have a space problem in your...
...

Before I bought a TI-89 Titanium, I had used a TI-83 Plus for four years. After taking calculus and learning about limits, derivatives, integrals, infinite series, Taylor series, differential equations, and multivariable functions, I decided that I would look for a calculator which was capable of symbolic computation. After analyzing my options, I decided on a TI-89 Titanium. The TI-89 Titanium is able to expand polynomials, factor polynomials, and do all of the calculus techniques that I mentioned -- symbolically and numerically. One of the other things I found helpful was the TI-89 Titanium's ability to plot direction fields using different algorithms (including Euler's method). One of the nicer things about this model (compared to the TI-89) is that it has USB connectivity (cord included) for installing applications and transferring data. Another nice thing is that it also supports connectivity to older model TI-89s via the old I/O port which is right next to the USB connector....
...

PinkbyVS says "AMAZINGLY GOOD!" about Texas Instruments - TI 84 Plus

I have owned the TI 82 and TI 83S Silver Plus before this. TheTI 84 is another wonderful product from Texas Instruments for the student in high School or College student. Any complaints about speed is irrelevant. I personally found the TI 84 very easy to read, fast, nice case-I like it better the TI 83 Silver case-and it included some programs that were not on the TI 83. It is supposed to have other stuff that the TI 83 did not have but I did not notice this. This is because I bought it to assist me in Algebra, trig and etc. For the money it is a great investment and a very useful tool. I will say that one area I noticed a great difference in was viewing the window. For me, (and I wear bi-focals) the TI 84 was noticeable in its clearer image and etc. Hope this is helpfu.
...
