I decided to try online college do to not being able to get out to go to college because of my disability. I am not a fast walker anymore and that would cause a lot of problems when it comes to school, so doing the online is much easier for me. I was basically told that I would not be able to handle online schooling because of it being much faster than regular college. The way I look at it is not as fast as what most people feel it is and I am doing a lot better with the classes online than what I did trying to go to regular college a couple different times within 10 years difference. I am enjoying online college more than I did with going to the building of a school. I would say to most anyone never let anyone talk you out of this until you try. I am glad I did. I am doing better with grades than I did the other two times and I am not ready to quit as I did the other two times that I attended regular college. My family is patting me more now on the back than they used to years ago with...
...

My husband has ben attending this school now for four semesters. He works full-time and we have three children so he is a very busy man. This program has been a godsend for him. He can do it in his own time. He has the syllabus and all assignements listed out in advance so if he needs to he can go ahead and do work if he will be out of town.m The subject matter is great. The courses are challenging and he has already lerned an awful lot about many subjects. The best part is they have 6 terms a year. He is taking two courses each term and will be able to finsih with his BA Degree concentrating in Business Administration in 2011. Granted, he already had some college coursework, but this is still a very quick way top get your education. All of the professors have been excellnt and answer any questions as soon as possible. They also give you a link to their online library system which is invaluable. lastly, we have started selling back his textbooks and have great luck with that.
AmandaJaneRich says "Penn Foster's Bridal Consultant program is outdated!" about Penn Foster College - Online Degree

I am one of those people who doesn't know what they want to do in life, so I decided to settle down and find something that I knew that I could do forever even if I didn't love it. I decided on bridal consulting, because people are always going to get married, right?

Penn Foster made it cheap and easy, but wait, this is TOO easy....

The books they send (at least on this specific topic) are boring and old! I guess I'm just not one of those people who can read a book and learn from it? I start to get cross-eyed after the first paragraph in these books and end up learning nothing. And the pictures look like they came straight out of the 80's. I am paying them for information I could obtain online for free.

Other than that I actually like this online school. I like the "open-book test" idea and the learn at my own pace option they are giving me. Though I said I can't sit down and read a book and learn something new, I definitely can't sit in a classroom with 300 other people and learn anything...
...

I dropped out of high school when I was 15 and pregnant. I did eventually receive my high school diploma, not a GED, in 2006 through an alternative program. When i began looking at colleges, both campus and online, I found that they wanted no part of me. I heard over and over that without high school transcripts and SAT scores I wasn't an acceptable student.

When a counselor from the University of Phoenix axia program contacted me and told me my unconventional school history wasn't a problem, i enrolled immediately. Two years later I have a GPA 0f 3.7, and I just turned in my final paper before I receive my assoc.'s in Health Care Management. I managed this with three children, a full time job, a mildly successful artistic career and a husbands who's been missing me :) I don't know what my future holds, but I know that right now I feel better about myself and my accomplishments then every before in my life and I wouldn't be where I am without this program.
...

Rustoli says "EXTREMELY SATISFIED BY ASHFORDS ADMISSIONS AND FINANCIAL AID" about Ashford University - All programs

I have just started taking courses at Ashford, and can honestly say that I am EXTREMELY impressed. I graduated from a community college ten years ago, and was far from satisfied with the admissions and financial aid process. After finally finding time to reenter school, I was very apprehensive about beginning the admissions and financial aid process again. To say the least, I was less than excited about continual glitches and last minute schedule changes, because I thought this was a normal but unpleasant part of college. THIS IS NOT THE CASE WITH ASHFORD. They have been amazingly helpful and supportive, and have exceeded my expectations. My advisor, Ludwig, has helped me every step of the way. He returns calls promptly and is extremely patient. For example, I was unable to return my signed enrollment form, due to problems with my fax/scanner, and living in a very small town makes it very hard to locate a public fax machine. While my Husband and I were at the store, (buying components needed...
...

WildZero says "Baker Online is a poor alternative to attending real college" about Baker College Online - BBA

Buyer Beware. Baker College Online provides an online learning experience which can be convenient, but the quality of each class can vary greatly and their policies are sometimes enforced unevenly to the detriment of their students.

I currently have an Associate's degree from a community college. I earned a 3.9 GPA while working on my Associate's and consider myself to be a serious student. I am also time challenged as a working adult with a family. I've been attending Baker part-time for a few years while working on a Bachelor's degree and expect to graduate in 2010.

The Good: Baker college offers online classes that allow their students to participate without having to adhere to as strict of a schedule as a traditional college course would require.

The Bad: Your grade is typically made up of three components: coursework, testing, and participation. The issue here is that "attendance" weighs for roughly a third of your grade, yet requires no learning on the part of the student.

My husband enrolled at GCU which was the biggest mistake of our lives. We applied for financial aid. The financial aid counselor Lisa Wright would never return our calls or our emails. She just ignored every question we had. We would then complain to our enrollment counselor and she would finally send us an email and say go to this website and fill out these forms. Well the stupid forms weren't on the website she told us to go to so then we call, email and fax again! Do you think she would take a moment and shoot and email back? NO WAY! She's obviously got other better things to do and she's not interested in helping students out any way... So, here we are in December my husband still has no financial aid. We've got two week to get this straightened out or guess what we owe them 3600 we don't have? If they would have cooperated with us, we could have gotten this resolved ahead of time but since Ms. Wright won't answer calls, emails or faxes we can't ever...
...

sdmoonchild says "Be careful of applying for financial aid" about Kaplan University - all programs

I was a former student at Kaplan University, going for a Bachelor's degree in Business Management. I had applied and received financial aid for a good portion of my studies, until the third semester. I was informed by the school that I had exhausted all of my financial aid, including the Federal Pell Grant. I was almost done with the third semester and holding a solid grade point average. My opinions of this school as well as any other online school is as follows:

Be sure to check out their financial aid policies thoroughly and ask questions. I feel that there was not enough information given to me as to what it means when you exhaust your financial aid.

Also, check into everything else ahead of time such as transferring credits to other schools, etc. I know that Kaplan's credits do transfer but it may be under different names of classes depending on the school.

All in all, it is not a bad online college, the professors are helpful and I did learn a lot while I was attending.

I agree that you get out of it what you put in to it. The entrance paper work, credit transfers and financial aide is a bit tricky, you just have to stay on top of it. For a working parent this is a wonderful way to complete a degree. We do not do chapters, we do the entire book front to back. P.S. You can buy your books used anywhere -amazon, cheggs, e-bay, I find them all online at a better price. My average is a 4.0 in to my 4th course. The amount of work I put in to it is above and beyond what is required because I am motivated to do it. Plan three nights a week, not two, 8 hours is not enough, plan on week ends another 4 hours. Read, research, write papers that are meaningful to the topic and contain real life applicability. If I could attend brick and mortar I would still prefer to do this online. It is quiet, I can concentrate, I have only my self to hold accountable. The challenge is up to you. Ashford is slightly more expensive than a local community college, true.
I felt like I was being scammed when I found out that the Medical Transcription field is being phased out and will use electronic devices, rather than a separate human being to transcribe doctor's notes. This will become effective in 2011 and it is federally mandated. I believe I should have been told this when I registered for this course. However, I was able to get my money back for the Medical Transcription course, but not for the first course I took, which was Medical Terminology. I can apply that course to the medical coding course which this school also offers, and I am considering whether to take that course or the medical billing course they offer....

I am very pleased with the services that I have received there, and I am pleased to say that I will be graduating with my associates in the beginning of July. I am a mother of four children and I work, so college was never really at the top of my list. I decided one day to look online and see how everything worked and try to fit it into my schedule so that I could secure my life and my children's future. I spoke with a very amazing enrollment counselor, and they told me everything that I needed to know and answered all of my questions. I am also proud to say that I have referred many of my friends and family to this school. I will also be attending the University of Phoenix for my Bachelors degree as well.
...

The University of Phoenix offers online courses that will get you through the requested program in approximately half of the time, without cutting out any of the knowledge that is needed to be successful in the career of your choice. I think of college online as a easily accessible way to earn my degree. As a fulltime student and mother of three I have found that the University of Phoenix's online courses have made it possible for me to earn my degree. In exchange for giving me the accesibility to earn my degree at home in my spare time I have decided to pursue a master's degree in healthcare management. I like the innovative way that the University of Phoenix has put the courses together with the crucial information that each program needs for a student to be successful in their upcoming career. I think that the University of Phoenix has excelled in the use of their online programs. The student and faculty relationship is strong. I ultimately like that the faculty is available with the...
...

My experience with this school was a very big disappointment. I decided to try this school because it is online and I am a single mom. I told the lady telling me about the school that I would not be able to pay anything out of pocket and she said that due to my previous credits and by being a single mom that I would not have to pay anything out of pocket. This got me very excited to be able to return to school. I met with a counselor and got my program, for computer technology, started. About one week after school started I was contacted by the financial adviser to let me know how things were going. She informed me that I would have to pay $1600.00 out of pocket to pay for schooling. I was very angry and told her that the lady who started my program to me that student loans would cover everything. The financial adviser said that she was sorry but I would still owe the $1600 for the program. I told her that I had to drop out of school due to that information. Two weeks...
...

soulisity says "The University of Phoenix online is an amazing school " about Phoenix Online University - accounting

I am currently a student at the University of Phoenix On-line. It took me about six months to really decide to enroll with a school on-line. When first enrolling with the school, I was very scared about failure. I am a mother of seven children, no education really and I am 31 years old. School was never really my thing, until I finally made that extra step and now I love it. I began with such nervousness, and now I am confident that I will succeed in my success. I love the classes that I have and the teachers are really great. They really help you a lot with understanding your assignments. Being an on-line student with Phoenix, helps me to maintain my career, and spend time with my family, while still allowing me to get an education. The homework that you receive, allows you to continue on your individual daily routine. The best part about it is that you can do it anywhere. You can study from home, or in the office, or at the beach with friends. No matter where you are or where you go,...
...
