I was very worried of being disappointed when I first started, but I picked this program for several reasons: 1. The program was ALL ONLINE! 2. Tuition was cheaper when compared to other graduate programs. 3. I could finish in 12-16 months. 4. The program was relative to my job. After starting off slow, one class at a time, I became very comfortable working with my professors and peers through our online community. The topics being studied were taught by experienced and very knowledgable professionals, who wanted nothing else but for us to be successful in our teaching jobs. The subjects studied are very relevant to my job, and I can take my newly learned material and immediately apply it to my job. Financial issues were a problem at first, but the college's business department will work with you and either assisst you with financial aid, or will set up a payment plan with you for a one time minimal fee. This university grew out of William and Mary to establish another way of learning. ODU is a leader in the non-traditional method of education. Program coursework can be taken, and a program completed, off site simply by sitting at a computer or in front of a linked TV, and watching the class in "real time" or on tape as it happened on the ODU campus. In part because of this, NYU has a great reputation that has noticeably improved over the last several years. However, be prepared to pay for these opportunities as NYU certainly is not cheap. Moreover, student support services, particularly IT is notably lacking and you might be frustrated by how "un-automated" seemingly routine functions are. That's it's biggest charm and biggest failing. Parking is such a nightmare that classes can be 1/2 hr late while you try to find a spot. Also the student staff in Neuberger hall is not at all friendly. Apparently english is the third language for most of these folks and they looks at you like you're from another planet everytime you try to register or submit any sort of official paperwork. The professors for the Electrical Engineering dept are very competent and helpful  as are the MBA professors - PSU has a reputation for liberal arts majors, not for engineering/MBA's but the potential is definitnely... I was a student athlete, which definently made it more enjoyable for me. The school has made a lot of improvements since I left and they're also getting a football team. The school has a variety of classes and is very diverse. You can be as involved or un-involved as you like and still learn a lot! The electives are set up to be as flexible as possible, and some programs have as many as five or six. This allows you to pursue anything of interest to you. And if you're interested in it, chances are good there is an available advisor or two who would love to mentor you! — I would recommend very strongly that you get involved in the GSE community in any way you can. Part-time students often have a lot on their plates (full-time work, families, elder care, etc.), but because the programs can be so broad in scope and elective choice, involvement on even a minimal level will allow you to network.
