katesmypoints says "FDU is the most ghetto, unhappy place in the universe" about Fairleigh Dickinson University-Metropolitan Campus

I attended FDU from 2002 through 2005 and it was the exact opposite of everything I had ever wanted or envisioned from my college experience. Not many of FDU's professors have a mastery of the English language and those who have, are not very bright. I cannot recall a single undergraduate professor I studied under whose work had been published, with the exception of one English professor who was exceptional - Dr. Lois Gordon. As a business major, she made me want to switch to English to study literature. (Thankfully the part of my brain that does math quickly concluded that an English degree and $.25 would buy me a pack of gum).

Aside from the lacking professional staff, the student body at the Metropolitan campus seemed to be comprised mainly of Harlem high school rejects. There was an on-campus stabbing at a school-sponsored "Bring ya Clique" event where off-campus youth could come and 'party' with current students. Apparently the pat-downs were not thorough enough and violence......

kristenwhite82 says "Texas A&M makes going away to college feel like coming home" about Texas A & M University

When I first began attending Texas A&M University in the Fall of 2000, I knew I had made an amazing decision to start off my life as an adult. I felt embraced by the students, professors & culture and was amazed at the sense of community I felt after just a short time. With the traditions & conservative values that this University and it's students represent I felt as if I were part of a bigger family that cared for me as much as I cared for it. From football games to midnight yell and too many fun events to list, an Aggie is guaranteed the opportunity to experience things that can not be explained but can only be experienced and felt. To anyone who is considering A&M, I encourage you to visit the university, not as an outsider, but as if you are one of us and share in the common bond that we all have, a love for our country, our state and our university. From the outside looking in it is impossible to understand and from the inside looking out it is impossible to explain...you...
...

GGx3 says "I couln't ask for more!" about Mount Mary College

Wow. Where do I begin!? I have loved this school since before I've even stepped on campus. Mount Mary College is a four year accreddited woman's college. Yes, a WOMAN'S college! (Sorry boys!) To begin, yes this is a private catholic school. This school is pricey compared to public schools ranging at about 20,000 tuition per year. The national average for private universities is around 30,000. So in perspective they are a cheaper option when it comes to private education. Mount Mary is located in Milwaukee, WI which is a very hip and urban city. The campus itself lies further off the hectic downtown area in wauwautosa county. Even though it is far from city action it is only 10-20 minutes away from downtown. Being far from the action can be a real plus. It is in a very calm environment which is great for serious students.

The campus is very beautiful with over 80 acres of land so there are great views from every window. Having said that, the...
...

I recieved my degree in Special Education from Adelphi University. In the four years I spent living on campus I couldnt have asked for a better start in my adult life. The dorms are large and common rooms inviting! The sense of community is shared by all who dorm and commute there. The classes I took were not only fun but informative, professors were always there to lend a helping hand. I reccomend Adelphi to everyone and anyone, they have supports for learning disabled students, they have a great sports program to watch and you'll make life long friends. Oh and the food in the Student Activities Center is to die for! They have a panini station, sushi station, philly station, asian cuisine bar, and smoothie bar! That and the Pizza place and deli on campus can't be beat!! On weekends there is always something to do, be it a barbeque, frisbee tournament, or lawn party theres always something for everyone. If your shy you can always just watch, but I didn't stay that long on the sidelines...
...

I decided to attend the University of Phoenix since it was the only school that would accept my credits from Heald College in Honolulu, Hawaii. The "Acacademic Advisor" seemed more like a passive aggressive Army recruiter. He tried to toss all these facts like, "Shaq got a degree from us", like that was supposed to get me to sign up right away. Anyhow, at first I thought he was genuine in trying to help me pursue my college education but soon found out I was being suckered into enrolling. Once I enrolled, all of his promises to keep in contact and answer any of my questions soon turned into unanswered phone calls and the run-around. I don't agree with how the school grades their students. Everything is based off of team projects pretty much, which means if you're like me who works hard and some what of an over acheiver, you will find yourself frustrated with having to take responsibility for those who decide not to put as much work as the rest of their team (had that happen on several occassions)....
...

Otterbein College has a small town feel. The campus is very accepting to all and can make most feel like they are at home. The people here are very helpful and caring. The athletic events are fun to watch and are free to all students. The academics are the strongest part of the college. The intergrative studies program is helpful to all students to enlarge their life experiences. The things that I have been exposed to would have never been exposed to me at a different school and I believe that I am a better student because of it. The small college atmosphere also helps students become more involved. There are less students at Otterbein so there is a better student to faculty ratio. This allows for help to become easier accessed by students which results in better grades and more learning. This college will prepare you for the rest of your life and the small campus makes people know most of the other people.
...

University of West Georgia is a nice school with a beautiful campus. There are plenty of opportunities to socialize and make friends. However, there seems to be an overhanging sense that this is a second-rate school. Most of the students are from the west Georgia area, largely because the economic downturn has forced many students to remain close to or at home. There is pretty much an equal ratio of males to females, which makes it easy to fraternize. The professors are mostly congenial, though there are a few who are unqualified and unfit. Mainly, be sure your professor can fluently speak the same language you speech or you might have trouble in, say, College Algebra. Overall, I am happy with my choice to attend UWG. I chose this school because of its proximity to my residence and have learned a good deal in most of my classes. I would recommend it to pretty much anyone, for the classes are not exceedingly difficult and pretty much anyone can pass with minimal effort. Still, if you......

So, I attend Georgia Southern University, home of the eagles. Before I graduated I knew I wanted t be a eagle. So I arrive here and I love it! The people are so nice, the campus is beautiful, what's not to like. But as I go into my second year i began to see more things that, i don't really like. For example, we are know as "a party school" but what school isn't. All our party scenes are slowly, but surely being boughtout by Georgia Southern, which leave over 19,000 students with nothing to do, but find trouble. We're young, we jut want to have fun!!

Now lets talk about the greek life. Me being a young black women, i'm more interested in black sororities and fraternities. But they don't get recognized here much at all. The "greek row" where all the the greek houses are, has not one black sorority or fraternity? A little odd right?

Now education wise, most of the programs here are awesome. For example, business, nursing, biology. But I would say the biggest weakness here is the...
...

Berry College is a small private liberal-arts college with a wide, beautiful open campus available to its students. Berry was always known to be conservative in its views (most students are southern and from the Bible Belt, campus is dry and visiting hours are enforced), but it has recently made changes towards keeping up with the modern times.

The professors were absolutely outstanding, I had quite a few classes that I still think about years later. The professors, who are EASILY accessible during/before/after classes, care about their profession and want students to engage in discussions. This is where small class sizes really matter! Students get to build a relationship with just about every professor, who in turn will still remember you name at graduation--even if you took their class Freshman year.

The Athletics Teams were quite competitive - that is until last year when the school went from NAIA division to Division III. As student athletes lost their right to a sport scholarship,...
...

northcascades says "Best university in Tennessee! Small classes, great profs" about The University of Tennessee-Martin

UT-Martin is the best school in the state of Tennessee. I grew up in a college town, live in one now, and can be at UT-Knoxville ('the' UT) in about a half-hour. Instead, I chose to come 400 miles across the state to rural northwest Tennessee?

Why?

1. Safety. UT-Martin is the safest school in the state and one of the safest in the South. We have our own police force that patrols 24/7 on foot, bike, Segway, and in motor vehicles. Martin is a small Southern town of about 10,000 (+students). It is the sort of place where you can leave your doors unlocked and the keys in your car.

2. Close relationships with professors. UTM only has 8,000 students. You will know your professors. They will know you. There are very few TAs on campus, and your classes are taught by actual professors. They have BBQs at their homes and will gladly give you their cell phone number.

Penny4yourthoughts says "CTU (Colorado Technical University) Online Critique" about CTU

CTU Online is a decent school and great for working professionals with families. The only complaint that I have about CTU is that they really need to investigate why so many of their graduate program students write worse than my 13 year old son.

I was asked to provide feedback on topic submissions that lacked any sign of the authors being qualified to be accepted into a "graduate school" program. It was simply a case of higher learning gone wrong for the sake of making a profit. The professors should grade on grammar alone since it was obvious that some individuals could not form a complete sentence.

I am grateful for the opportunity to have been able to receive my MSM but ask myself often if it was worth the time and money. I ask this because I know some of the people that I mentioned also received the same piece of paper, but would not have been accepted at many other schools which placed greater value on their reputation and standing in the academic world.

Anoka-Ramsey Community college is a great shcool to start at. Im a freshmen, and i can tell you that it's cheap very cheap, compair to others. The compairsion is $ 136 dollars per credit verses $ 900 dollar at a state university. They have a great tutoring program, and They have the 50% unempolyment program. Has a smaller class size then at State university's. One on One time with Professors. Has the MnTc = Minnesota Transfer Guild.

I think the only down fall is that you have to do things by yourself in order to get things done. Like Finanical Aid, Picking classes, ect. Also you can get bad professors, and they sometimes won't help you at all.

As a freshmen it's perfect if your not ready to go to state yet. Also have a great transfer program.
...

UWRF has been around for over 150 years and has constinantly adapted to meet the changing need of the the students. UWRF is a great instituitions were students can feel that they are really contected to the University. Professors are there to teach, not to do research, and are very concerned about the performance of their students and being there to help their students learn. The class sizes are often around 30 -40 students to a class, or can be smaller depending on their major concentration.

There are many organizations on campus and all students should be able to find at least one organization to meet there needs, and there are always opportunities to create new organizations to meet the changing times.

The campus is very a small comforting feel with one end of campus to the other taking approxiamatley fifteen minutes to walk. Which makes for a nice walk in the Wisconsin winters.

Most of the professors really care about their students and are very good. As with all schools, some of the professors are not up to par with their colleagues, but that is to be expected. I, however, do not like how much they charge their students... for EVERYTHING!! Parking is killer. For a day in the parking garage it is eight dollars!!! As a full time college student without a job and just surviving off of her savings, that is a lot of money!!!
...

The tution here is around $32,000 a year. Ferrum's population is around 1,400; it is a very small school. The school is in the mountains; it's about 15 mins. away from Rocky Mount which is a bigger city in Va. Ferrum College does not offer a masters program but they are considering it. There are many different clubs and organizations on campus for the students. Ferrum offers 8 different sororities and fraternities for the students; only one of the fraternites is nationally recognized. Many students at Ferrum major in Teacher Education, Political Science, Pre-Professional Science and Social Work. There are 5 dormitories and 4 apartment style living areas where the students live. The apartment style rooms are mainly for juniors and seniors at Ferrum. Ferrum has a great athletic department they offer many different types of sports...
...

I have been going here for about a year and really like it. The classes are easy to access. It's basically a work at your own pace as long as you meet all the required deadlines. The instructors are very nice and understanding. They are also readily available to ask questions. The programs they have are also easy to match any students needs. The online library is also really good research to use. I've never seen the campus so i don't know what it looks like or how it is. I do all my classes online and I think it is great for the working adult/parent. You basically get to choose your own schedule and do the work at your leisure as long as you make the deadlines. They offer pretty much any degree program that someone would be looking for. The staff and service office are also easy to get a hold of. They are also very nice and very helpful. They are really into aiding the student to make sure they get exactly what they need to succeed. I would definitely recommend this school to others.
...

I decided to go to Jacksonville State University (in Alabama) because I received a scholarship. I am originally from Chicago and I would never have thought to go to college in Alabama. To be honest, I had never even heard of Jacksonville State until a few months before I went on a visit. On my visit I fell in love. The area was beautiful. I never imagined Alabama to be so pretty. At first it was an adjustment. Life is a lot slower here than in the big city. Anyhow, I loved it so much that I stayed for grad school also. The classes are smaller than at other universities and the teachers are more helpful.
...

kboerema says "This community college has become a successful state college." about Seminole Community College

Seminole Community College, now known as Seminole State College, has provided many opportunities for those who cannot afford or were not able to attend a university their first years of school. They have many programs and a very social environment. During the summer, I was able to work through their community service project in which I was an assistant teacher for little kids. I was able to talk to some of the students attending the college. The professors are very accomodating and truly care about their students. The class size is smaller which makes it a better working environment. The campus is big and does not provide housing but does provide many specialized areas for those who want to major in a variety of areas. It is a great way for students tojump start their career and become successful in the future. Many students get their act together and are able to advance their education while having a closer relationship with their teachers. This is a good way to network and get more out...
...
