lorraine8 says "Friendly To Nontraditional Students" about The University of Texas at El Paso

UTEP holds my respect for its flexibility and being friendly to those of us who are working full time and finishing school. A good portion of the student population are non-traditional students, so the university goes above and beyond to offer courses at night. The professors had high expectations of their students, however, many were also very encouraging and willing to cheer us on when demands of work and family were becoming too much for us to handle. We were not babied through our college career, but we were encouraged and heard. I was blessed to have received my bachelor's degree from UTEP and have been able to move on to a Master's degree there. I tried an on-line course study at another university for my Master's degree and boy, was it a big disaster. Unlike UTEP professors, I dealt with arrogance, a lack of understanding, and a lack of help whenever I had any questions. Not to mention the huge chunk of cash I had to pay per class. I would not trade the experience I had...

If you decide on the University of Southern California, take advantage of the incredible academic opportunities. You have fantastic instructors, fascinating class choices, and small class sizes (compared to other colleges). The college also has an inordinate amount of money to throw around so make sure you get into the social scene - clubs, public performances, sports, you name it. The school will fund any activity you can justify, too - just ask. — On the down side... — First, the cost. If you're paying for college (or someone you care about is) then go to a 2-year school first to finish out your GE's. No one will ever care as long as the diploma says USC. Otherwise, you'll be paying for your fancy degree for the rest of your life, and not earning any more than if you had attended all four years. — Second, the location. The college is safe for about 2-3 blocks North of the campus, and that's about it. Don't walk...

New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology is a very interesting place. It is small, lively and located in the middle of the New Mexico dessert in the small town of Socorro. In addition to some traditional programs, it has Mining, Petroleum and Geology that attracts many foreign students. It also has recently become a center for anti-terrorism research and training. The school recently purchased a ghost town nearby where they can practice their anti-terrorism tactics. — Like I said, a very interesting place. —...

Brigham Young University - Idaho is a great university. Not only do they have small class sizes with well-educated teachers, but the students are hard-working and reputable. The professors are understanding and friendly.
Reduced-price classes are offered at night through the College of General Studies. If you work on campus or have a parent that works on campus, you're likely to have your tuition paid for by the University. Awesome Anthropology/Archaeology Department. Classes usually have video/audio equipment; you can actually do a class report on Powerpoint (instead of presenting your reports via chiseled stone slabs or via cave-painting). I've gone to three universities, and I like this one the best!...

The College of Professional Studies-The MBA program at Regis University in Denver lacks educational integrity.
asrai0fire says "Total freedom in your education." about Hampshire College

Hampshire College students have total control over their education. Here, there are no majors or grades or GPAs. Instead, students define themselves by their concentration, their area of interest. You can study anything you want and you're not compared to anyone else because each concentration is unique. Instead of a literature major, you can focus on, "history and literature of the Jewish diaspora," "film/video production," "international health and development," or "3D computer graphic engineering." Instead of 20 or 100 majors, Hampshire has 1200, equal to the number of students. — — Hampshire is located in the foothills of the Berkshire mountains in Western Massachussetts. Here, the woods and the mountains are your playground. You can camp, hike, mountain bike, build a meditation circle, an igloo, a yurt or a treehouse and you don't have to ask for permission. The outdoors program is famous. Hampshire offers a full array of courses in kayaking, ice...

I spend my four years at West Chester University having fun, learning a bit, and dancing a ton. The dance program, which recently has merged with the theatre program, has steadily been improving since its inception over 20 years ago. WCU only offers a dance minor, but has two productions a year and treats them as professional performances which is an awesome learning experience for any dancer. — The acedemic scene is as difficult or easy as you make it. While WCU has many wonderful, inspiring teachers, there are always the few distracted, disorganized professors who make it easy to coast, or far too difficult to pass. However a little research can help skip over these classes and find the ones that are worthwhile and challanging. — The campus is beautiful with large castle-like buildings, green grass, lots of trees and gorgeous scenery. Walking to class on a fall day can make anyone smile. — WCU was absolutely a...

Northeastern is known for a lot - For one, co-ops - you can work in your field for up to a year and a half prior to graduation. This really is a rare opportunity - you can get valuable experience in your field (and oftentimes get paid), or you can decide that, because of co-op, you don't like your major and you want to get out! — The school's also known for being pricey. Even with approximately half my tuition being paid for by scholarships and federal loans, I am taking out a great deal in private loans with hopes that graduating with so much experience under my belt from a good school will allow me to make a good salary upon graduation. — Some consider another downfall of the university to be all the "red tape." There are a lot of faculty at northeastern, and an even more staggering amount of students. So, sometimes you will get caught up in a lot of it. Housing can be difficult (and expensive) so I opted early on to live off the perfectly manicured campus....
