bkovacs says "Simple case makes for a quick installation" about Sabrent (SBT-EKU25) USB 2.0 External Drive Case

I recently got a case for a spare IDE/PATA laptop hard drive, and it failed in about three weeks. I therefore looked for another case and found the Sabrent SBT-EKU25 2.5-inch IDE Hard Drive Enclosure at a nearby computer store for $10. So far, this is a nice little hard drive case.

What it is

The Sabrent SBT-EKU25 2.5-inch IDE Hard Drive Enclosure fits standard 2.5-inch laptop hard drives, as long as they conform to the older IDE (also known as "PATA") standard. The case consists of two pieces: an aluminum box into which the drive is inserted and an end cap that contains the interface electronics for the drive. The end cap has a pilot light and a single standard USB port for connection.

Inside the box for the Sabrent SBT-EKU25 2.5-inch IDE Hard Drive Enclosure was the aluminum case, the end cap, two tiny screws, a vinyl sleeve for the case, a USB cable, instructions, and a CD disk with software and drivers. The device also included a tiny screwdriver.

DON'T GET ME STARTED.

THIS DRIVE IS A PIECE OF MOLDYCHEESE BAKING IN THE SAHARAN SUN FOR TWO WEEKS AND THEN PACKAGED AND PRICED AT SOME RIDICULOUSLY LOW PRICE.

MINE DIED IN THREE HOURS. HAD ONLY COPIED 27 GIGS OF DATA.

FORTUNATELY, THE STORE WHERE I PURCHASED IT WAS HONEST ENOUGH TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT MOST OF THE SEAGATE EXPANSION DRIVES THEY SOLD WERE RETURNED AS DEFECTIVE

SEAGATE USED TO STAND FOR QUALITY. NOW IT IS A RIP-OFF: COMPLETELY UNRELIABLE. SADLY, MOST OF THE HARD DRIVE MANUFACTURERS ARE DUMBING DOWN THEIR PRODUCTS TO MAXIMIZE PROFIT.

THE SOLUTION: I PURCHASE ONLY 'ENTERPRISE-QUALITY' HITACHI INTERNAL DRIVES (5-YEAR WARRANTY) AND PUT THEM IN SEPARATELY PURCHASED EXTERNAL CASES. MUCH BETTER SUCCESS RATE.

AMERICA IS GAINING THE REPUTATION THAT JAPAN HAD IN THE SIXTIES FOR CHEAP PRODUCTS: CHEAPLY MADE AND COMPLETELY UNRELIABLE.

DEMAND MORE. DO NOT BUY THE CRAP THAT PASSES FOR HI-TECH!
...

victoria1984 says "Very reliable " about Kingston DT Mini Fun 1GB Flash Drive

Kingston DT Mini Fun 1GB Flash Drive is a very good and reliable device. I have never had problems with it. You can transfer a lot of different files on it and keep them there for as long as you like. Data does not get corrupted or lost, it always has whatever you transferred on it. It's very light and portable and you can even leave it in our usb port and does not get in the way. It comes in cute colors, I go the yellow one because it's easy to find it in a purse or a backpack. The form is a little weird but that one of its features that make it special. I think it was supposed to be a lego part but you can't really tell that looking at it. It is also very stable, not retraceable which I really like. The cap fits the usb itself just right and it stays on tight and it does not get loose so you don't have to worry about losing it and it does not accumulate dust as retractable usb drives. It has 1GB of memory and it's quite enough to transfer almost all of my files and it's more than a 1000....
...

SanDisk 2BG Cruzer. It is actually not that bad when it comes to few files but it starts acting out when you put more than 1GB of files on it and try to load them up to your computer from it. When there are quite a few files on it, it sometimes is not recognized by a PC or freezes everything down and you have to restart the whole system just to make it work again. It has one more negative feature, it's the way you open it, it's a slider and there is a little handle using which you basically push the connecting part out. It looks handy at first but when you are trying to squeeze it into a usb port it slides back in and that's frustrating especially if you are trying to do that on a desktop with a USB port under a hardly accessible panel. In many desktops usb ports are under some weird angle and trying to access it even with a regular non-slider usb drive is hard. Moreover, because it is a slider and the "door" to the whole drive is always open and it can accumulate dust and be damages very...
...

I discovered a new discount shopping site called UWantSavings.com. I signed up for email notifications and entered a raffle for the week's giveaway. Imagine my surprise when I got an email saying that I had won! The item was a laptop carrier: Andiamo Bravo Backpack Tote, Black.

My laptop has a 17 inch screen and is hard to find a carrier for it and so I asked one of my sons if he could use it. He has about a one and one half hour commute each day into DC. He said he needed one so I contacted UWantSavings.com and asked them if they could send it directly to my son. "No problem!" I was told. I offered to pay any difference in postage but was told, "Don't worry about it. This one is on us." They sent me the tracking number and I waited to find out how nice it was.

The website stated that the retail price of the backpack is $285. It is currently on sale on this site for $75. The description on the site is:

Bottom-Line: If you want a small footprint, high capacity, affordable external hard drive from a name you can trust, look no further than the Seagate Expansion 1.0TB External HHD.

I have always had a love, love relationship with Seagate hard drives. They are comparable in price the trouble-prone Western Digital drives, but my experience has shown that they (Seagate HHD's) represent a far more reliable alternative. And Seagate is a nameplate I can trust and have trusted for a very long time; the company has been around since the beginning of the PC revolution. I choose the Expansion External 1.0TB HHD a USB 2.0 solution for its affordability, storage capacity, and fit neatly on my desk.

JonathanScottLam says "I'm reviewing a flash drive? Okay. " about San Disk Cruzer Mcro (8GB) USB 2.0 Flash Drive

Okay, first of all, I'm reviewing a Flash Drive. Hm. Haha. Well anyway, I won this flash drive from a drawing and it was completely random. This is a great flash drive to begin with. I haven't had a single problem with it and I've been using it since June 13th of 2009. I use it for almost everyone, moving things from one computer to another, I use it for my Western Digital HD player, everything. It hasn't let me down. At 8GB capacity, what more can you ask for? That's so much space you can use... But anyway, Sandisk also features an application that runs along with this Cruzer, and you can install games or portable apps, so that's pretty cool. I give this 5/5 for its reliability and its awesome features. Till this day, it has not let me down a single time at all.

It uses a USB 2.0 for highspeed connectivity, so it's fast. It's lightweight and can be carried around everywhere and anywhere with you. Okay, it's all great and all, but it's not waterproof.. But what flash drive is? Ha. Great...
...

The SimpleTech 160GB USB external storage drive is exactly what I was looking for. It is powered by the computer through the USB port and is easily connected to your Desktop or Laptop alike. It is quite compact and will even fit in a pocket if need be. I use this drive to carry my photo's and video's as well as music with me when I travel or visit relatives and want to show off my grandbabies or recent trips. Most people have a computer or a TV with a USB port. It even works on XBOX or some DVD players with a USB. I am able to switch it between my home computers and I use it to store movies or other large files that would exhaust my storage capacity on older laptops and computers. The only problems that I have had with the drive is a sometimes it gets overwhelmed with large files and causes a sort of stall that I have to reset and restart. Other than that it has been exactly what I need to drag my photo's all across the USA.
...

- The U3 technology allows for the use of PC software directly from the USB device. Nothing gets installed to the PC. It's like you were never on the machine.

- You can carry encrypted or unencrypted information that is accessible from any PC that has a USB port. So far I have found over 50 free software programs that run directly from it such as FoxIt PDF Reader, WinZip, OpenOffice, EverNote, TeamViewer and Firefox to mention a few. I have found information on converting existing PC software to U3 versions. There is also a software development kit that allows you to create U3 software from scratch.

- The word is out that the U3 software won't run under MS Vista. This is not the case. After you connect the device to a PC, open My Computer then open the U3 System drive. You must right-click the file LaunchU3.exe then select Run as Administrator. Some newer versions of the U3 software will ask about scanning the device.
pitcherday says "I'm lovin on Mozy.com online file back-up service!" about Mozy

Everyone should be backing up their files. Not only are your personal documents important, but anyone who downloads MP3's knows the cost can add up and for the most part you cannot re-download purchased music. Some people go for hardware, but in the incidence of fire, flood, or some other natural disaster, your back-up hard drive could be compromised also. I went for an online back-up service: mozy.com

Mozy.com is very economical, with the first 2 gig of storage free. Backing up my whole desktop computer is around $54 per year. Considering I have $250 worth of downloaded MP3 music (and counting) on there, it's not bad. Actually, since I got mozy.com, I sold all my CD's that I have downloaded into iTunes. I have the copy on my hard drive and the one on mozy.com so I don't worry.

You don't have to back-up your entire computer. You can pick which parts you would like. Downloading the mozy.com backup tool is quick. The first big push which basically downloads the entire contents of your computer...
...

Bottom-Line: I couldn't ask for a better product then the DataTraveler 100 8GB Flash Drive.

It had become a habit for me to carry at least one USB memory stick. I used to carry Lexar Media USB Jump-Drive's exclusively, but my memory requirement quickly out-paced their ability to introduce new, larger capacity memory sticks. So last year I switched to a SanDisk Cruzer Mini 2GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive.

But once again my storage requirement started to stretch the upper limits of this drive, so the search was on for a large capacity unit. I found the Kingston DataTransfer 4GB 2.0 Flash Drive, but now my ultra-portable storage needs have outstripped this drive, so I recently purchased the Kingston DataTraveler 100 8GB 2.0 Flash Drive for a mere $18.00.

My Viewpoint

The DataTraveler 100 8GB Flash Drive is a remarkably small (about 3 inches long), high capacity black USB Flash Drive with a storage capacity of 8.0GB (about 7.92GB after formatting). One side of the drive is taken up by a...
...

tingtingusa says "just a typically flash drive" about Kingston DataTransfer 4GB Flash Drive

The kingston 4 GB is just another regular flash drive, from features to design, nothing stands out. It is not bad, and the price is great, but if u r looking for something more exciting and with faster writing speed, I won't recommend this one.

I only use this one for saving school Doc and PDF files, not bad if you are not in a hurry. And it is inexpensive to buy, so I guess you woould not feel too heart broken if you ever happen to lose it. It is light weighted, and it has a 2.0 USB connectivity, but the plastic outter shell makes it feel real cheap at hand, but that doesn't affect its function. So anyhow, It is an average product.
...

Jo says "I'm covered by Jelly - my 2.0 Flash Drive that is" about Ativa Jelly USB 2.0 Flash Drive

To the Point

I'm on my 3rd flash drive which isn't bad for the many years I've been using them. My last one got crushed when my computer slid off the couch in our travel trailer. We headed off to Office Depot and I got the Ativa Jelly USB 2.0 Flash Drive. I was used to buying in megabytes and was told that 2 GB has so much memory that if I'm just using it to save my writing I'll probably never fill it. Mine is green. Ativa Jelly USB 2.0 Flash Drive comes in other colors.

A Closer View

Ativa Jelly USB 2.0 Flash Drive is very cute. It's made of soft rubber (they call it jelly). I'm not trying it but there is a good chance it would hold up better being coated in this soft jelly than just the metal flash drives. In fact they can't be worse since crushing my metal drives seems to be my m.o.

I love that the cap is attached so I don't have to look for it. It just moves out of the way as you can see in the picture when it's in its port.

My experiences

I really like my new Ativa Jelly USB 2.0 Flash...
...

Katrena says "Great price (on sale) and convenient flash drive" about SanDisk 2GB Cruzer Micro U3 USB 2.0 Flash Drive

I have used this Sandisc 2GB USB Flash Drive for about six months and have been pleased with it. My favorite feature of this product is the retractable USB connector. I have had previous flash drives with a removable cap, and I like this one much better. Although I never lost the cap on my previous one, I had to hunt more than once for that cap.

I use my flash drive regularly for loading pictures to print and also for transferring PowerPoints I have created for teaching purposes. The Powerpoints tend to be large files, so I've had to delete some files in order to load others on it. I probably need an 8 GB at some point, but I'm OK with deleting what I don't need at this point.

My Sandisc USB Thumb Drive has worked fine on my computer, which is loaded with Windows XP. I believe I saw a review mentioning that it may not work well with Vista, so if you have Vista, you may want to check out the other reviews here on this product.

The only problem I've experienced with this pen drive is that my...
...

Bottom-Line: Need a small, hi-speed, large capacity replacement for those pesky floppy drives, or smaller capacity flash drives look no further then the SanDisk Cruzer Micro 8.0GB USB Flash Drive

It had become a habit for me to carry at least one USB flash drive of some capacity with me at all times. They come in handy in my line of work when I need to transfer files, load a new service pack, or other software on a computer I am working on for a client. The flash drive also comes in handy when I need to exchange files with friends and or collogues.

The Product

The Cruzer Micro 8.0GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive is small (about 3 inches long) high capacity matt black USB Flash Drive with a storage capacity of 8.0GB. On one end of the drive is a male retractable USB connector; while in the middle of the drive sits a large orange LED that blinks slowly when the drive is plugged into the USB port and is idle; the LED blinks faster when the drive is sending or receiving information. A small metal...
...

I have used 3-4 Sandisk memory cards. I have always liked them. They were always with adapter. But this time when I ordered it online, the particular website had mentioned that it came with an adpater, so I ordered this specific product as it was pretty inexpensive. But when I received, got to know that adapter was not included with it...so I was a bit disappointed with this product as I had only ordered this product for the included adapter.
...
