mytoocents says "A must have for any long distant relationship" about Logitech QuickCam® Pro 9000 Personal Web Camera

This camera is wonderful. The pictures are clear (a little too clear) so make sure you are presentable before you turn on the camera. I speak to relatives in other states. I have had Spanish lessons from someone who lives in Guatemala (I'm in Michigan). With gas being so expensive, I can visit without using any gas. I get to see my brother's new baby and check up on old friends. The clarity on this camera is excellent and I am not having to guess at peoples features (as I did with other web-cams). I love it. Would be willing to buy another. The camera adjust for poor lighting but it is best to be in a well lit location for best results....

fjgamer says "Terrible for a webcam; decent for a prize." about Microsoft LifeCam VX-6000 Personal Web Camera

By my standards, which are pretty low, this webcam is pretty good. That said, it is not a good webcam for any OS other than Windows. I could not get it working in Ubuntu (Hardy), and I'm pretty sure it wouldn't even be necessary for the average Mac user, because most of those come with webcams these days, better webcams than this one.

This webcam was a prize from Live Search Club, so I can't really complain, I got it for playing a few games. However, this is hardly a webcam worthy of long term use, and the software installation can be annoying, especially when the software disc is crappy and will suddenly stop working for no apparent reason. (The software is easy to find on the internet, though.)

My final verdict: not good.
Quality of video: very bad.
Quality of photo: very good.
Syncronization issues: YES.
Should you buy it: NO.
Should you get it off LSC: only if you can't find a better prize....

pi77 says "perfect webcam for instant messengers" about Microsoft LifeCam VX-6000 Personal Web Camera

My husband and I picked out this camera to use with our new HelloWorld account. We wanted something with a built-in microphone and we needed something that would attach to the top of a laptop screen. Installation was easy, just put in the CD and in a few minutes it asks you to plug in the camera. It works very well in low light and the microphone really impressed me, the sound quality has been excellent. Other features that sold us were the 3x digital zoom and 5.0 megapixel resolution for photos, but we haven't tried that out yet....

I got this webcam to keep in touch with friends and family out of state. It works great for my purposes. The picture quality is great and is limited by our DSL connection speed, not the camera itself. The microphone works well for conversation.

There is an autofocus which works well. The camera doesn't work as well as I would like in dim lighting though, but as long as there is a normal amount of light in the room it works great.

The camera software has some fun features added to it, including zoom, and fun cartoon overlays for your picture.

I use this webcam with MSN messenger and have had no problems with set up compatibliity.
...

Jace says "Good features for the money, but with some weaknesses." about TrendNet 312w Wireless IP Camera

You can't find a better device at this price point, but it does come with some annoyances and limitations.

Works great as a baby cam, and the grandparents love being able to login to wathc the baby sleeping.

Things I Like:

Really great night mode via built-in infrared lights.

Stable. No crashes or hiccups in the month I've had it.

Solid construction. The camera and included mounting bracket are very sturdy.

MPEG streaming video. Really nice quality, and a fraction of the bandwidth required by MJPEG standards, so there's less "internet lag."

The ability to backup your settings is a nice touch, in case you have to reset the camera for any reason.

Three year warranty.

Support for sound. Built-in ability to listen (from IE, not from Firefox/Java) and the ablilty to connect speakers to "talk through" the camera.

Things I Dislike:

Camera gets "stuck" in night mode. Under normal indoor lights, the camera often continues to force itself into night mode, which results in strange washed-out colors. This...

...

JaKaTTaK94 says "Overrated according to the box but gets the job done." about Microsoft LifeCam VX-3000 Personal Web Camera

I won the Microsoft LifeCam VX-3000 on Live Search Club (www.club.live.com). It was completely free (no shipping or anything) so I really can't complain. However, the box describes it with amazing terminology such as High Quality Video and Crystal Clear audio. In contrary, it's just an ordinary webcam. It suffices the need of a webcam but you don't want to use it to shoot your big movie production or short film. The video gets pixelated when any fast movement takes place and the audio is semi-clear. What was cool, though, was the effect to zoom in and pan. Also, they have many animated graphics to place on top of the video such as a ladybug moving about the screen over your video or a basketball bouncing. That's probably the best part of it (but it never mentioned that stuff on the box, go figure). A truly adequate product. However, on the same website mentioned above, I just recently won the LifeCam VX-6000. I yet need to set it up. I'll probably use that and post up another review to......

Jo says "Great for short-term long-distance relationships!" about Logitech QuickCam Messenger Personal Web Camera

To the Point
After learning about Skypes my husband got us a good webcam for home. He sent me the QuickCam Messenger (Chat)** from Logitech, which he told me was not expensive but does the trick. I am able to see him and my Hanna (a 4-year old Pomeranian). It's worked out wonderfully while I've been in Florida taking care of my mom.

A Closer View

I'm not a techie so I'll be describing this as I used it and leave some specifications at the bottom.

When I got it and took it out of the package I was nervous that I wouldn't be able to set it up but it couldn't have been simpler. It came with software which walked me through very simple steps. It might have taken me 10 minutes but probably less.

Great so I have it installed; then I had to see if and how it worked. My husband called me through Skypes and was able to see and hear me. I just put the cable into one of my ports just as I would do for my camera or flash drive. I already had seen him and Hanna through Skypes with his camera but until...
...

Undlin says "Plug & Play? Yes. A great WebCam for PCs & Macs." about Gear Head WebCam WC875FT

Although most WebCams work fine on Macs they don't list support for Macs on the box. Not so with Gear Head. It took about 15 minutes to download Skype, open an account, configure a few parameters, and connect with my daughter and grandson in Switzerland.

This is a 1.3 megapixel camera, has face tracking, zooming, autofocus, and a resolution of 1280 x 1024 for both video and pictures.

There are entry-level WebCams for a bit less, but this WebCam at a list price of $50 is well worth it for the added features.
...

Camera was used to communicate with family while I was traveling overseas. Video quality is good for the price paid. Works great with any communication software. Recommend windows live messenger with this Web Cam. Even tough camera has a built in mic I strongly recommend purchasing a headset as your voice is echoed while talking trough computer speakers and can get annoying while chatting....

I am really pleased with this pc camera. I use it for video conferencing and it far exceeds the quality of other cameras I have used previously.

I purchased a Philips Webcam to keep in touch better with the grand kids, the camera seems to work fine, but I and the kids on the other end have had difficulty with the Microphone.

The Webcam itself was easy to install, with minimal headaches. I think with some diligent effort this problem with the microphone can be worked out, but for someone who has no technical knowledge it would cause them great strife. I have checked Phillips Website and it is difficult to find anything about this cam, and gives no troubleshooting information.
...
