I wanted a blackberry pearl. But blackberry puts an outragous fee on their phones every month. I can't afford that on a monthly basis. So I asked the sales guy at verizon wireless what is a phone that is compatable to the blackberry pearl. He gave me the palm centro. I think it is a good phone but for a girl it is a little bulky. I am not a big fan of the touchscreen. It is very sensitive and if you keep your phone in your pocket it "butt dials" people all the time. It is a great texting phone. It has the full keyboard and easy push buttons. It is not easy to find things on there you kinda have to play around with it to be able to navigate easily. It holds a battery really well. I charge it every three days and talk about two hours a day on it. It has great memory. I text about a few thousand a month and it stores every one of them in conversation form. The palm centro is a good working phone but has its faults.
...

A very nice product, good for everyday use for basic computer functions within the plam of your hand. Comparable to that of many functions from an Ipod Touch, it offers great WiFi connection with the ability to enable and disable WiFi connection to save power, as well as bluetooth and Ifra transfer. Offers the ability to change SD Cards allowing for unlimited amount of storage on mulitple cards, easy to load music, videos, & games. Quickly charges within an hour to an hour and half to full power, comes with the ability to charge an extra battery while charging the unit. You can record with the built in microphone something not offered with the Ipod Touch unless you get the adapter. As well as a good speaker and earphone connection. Overall a very good product for those looking for basic functions as internet/e-mail access, listening to music, viewing videos, and passing time by playing games such as preload ones from Solitare to Jawbreaker.
...

The Kindle 2 takes an already great product and makes it even better. The text to speech is really great for people who can't read in the car, for example. Easy to read the screen, and the changeable font size is a great feature - especially for those who need reading glasses. Forget your glasses? Make the font bigger and you can still read clearly. Being able to download a new book or magazine at any time is also a great feature. Even in an area where cell phone coverage is not great, I get a great signal on my Kindle. Some features are still a little klunky - like the "Experimental" area where you can access regular web sites. Note - if you are just looking for a great booker reader, you can probably save a little money with the original Kindle.
...

I am the kind of person who has always lugged several books around everywhere I go {uber book geek}. I distinctly remember struggling with my luggage and a easily-ten pound Patricia Cornwell anthology on a previous trip to Chicago in an effort to avoid taxi fare {cheap}. While I enjoy sitting in my library surrounded by volumes of well-loved novels, I can just as easily be satiated with the occasional unbound digital versions of forgettable yet satisfying books that don't necessarily require a second reading (i.e., Dan Brown and John Grisham, of late) {lover of new technology}. And sometimes, I simply don't have the energy to chuck my well-worn, socially unacceptable daywear to get out and browse the local bookstore, but require immediate gratification in a newly released bestseller {lazy}. Keeping these personal attributes in mind, it is not surprising that I am completely enjoying my new Amazon Kindle (2!). With new product in hand, it was no effort at all to learn how...
...

With the functionality of a phone and the entertainment and usability of a PC, the MOTO Q 9h offers the complete user experience. It's technology lets users stay connected from nearly anylocationa dn at any time!. At work and at play, the MOTO Q 9h offers a many features that will keep you entertained for hours. The integrated 2.0 megapixel camera isn't the best and brining up the zoom is tricky. For the music lover, Windows Media and access to lots of music libraries is a plus. Integrated Bluetooth wireless is a real bonus! With full-speed USB 2.0 download, you can experience fast file transfers from your PC to the phone's microSD card that offers up to 2GB of optional removable memory to store files, documents, photos and anything else you can tink of. The best thing for me is to be able to stream You Tube videos while sitting in the airport. Sound and video quality are very good. Charger is standard (unlike some competitors brands).
...

I have owned a Kindle since it originally came out but only used it a few times while on vacation. Then recently a friend bought me the Kindle DX as a present and I have to say, I like it much better than the original Kindle. The largest display really helps me feel like it is more like a book than the smaller format did. I also really like how it displays the percentage completion. I find that to be an excellent motivator to keep reading.

The display is great and very easy on the eyes. I have also been using black leather cover and a itty bitty book light both of which really enhance the experience.

For anyone who is on the edge about the Kindle DX, I highly recommend it!
...

I have enjoyed using my Palm Z22 handheld Personal Data Assistant (PDA). It's got a well lighted screen and big, easy to read writing. The size is small so it can easily fit in your pocket or purse. I use it to store addresses, email accounts, credit card info, passwords, and it easily synch with my computer so that I can assess the same info on my laptop as well as the Palm PDA.

It did take a bit to learn to use the writing recognition tool (you write on the screen and the text is stored so that you do not need a keyboard, although you can access it that way too.) At first I could not get it to recognize some letters and numbers, but then I figured out that some letters have to be written a certain way, for example, tou have to cross a T first which is contrary to the way we all learned, other wise it thinks you are making a lower case L. So it does take just a bit of getting used to.

One complaint is the relatively short battery life between charges. But that is a complaint...
...

raengler says "Minus the carrier Palm Centro is pretty good." about Palm Centro Smartphone

The Palm Centro is probably the best cell phone I've ever owned. That may not be saying much if your a person who owns an iphone or something of the sort. But frankly I've seen and used the iphone and I prefer the Palm for two reasons. First, while I am a fan of the touch screen feature, I also like the option of having acctual buttons to push. Call me old fashion but it just gives me peace of mind in case the touch screen decides to go on the fritz. Second I prefer the compactability of the Palm. It's not so bulky. I can store it pretty much anywhere.

I'm not much of a texter so the buttons on the palm are not as bad an inconvenience to me as they would an avid text user. I will say this however about the provider I use with the palm ATT wireless. Not Happy. Not Sad. But I have consistant trouble with signal under att. I'm not sure if its the phone or the carrier. I will say that i have had two other phones under ATT and I had the same problem. I'll let you be the judge.
...

The cingular wireless i825 smart-phone is just taht, a smart phone. it offers all the amenities of a handheld laptop, and is a phone all in one, which will allow for phone calls and text messaging. it has a variety of features, limited to but including: gps, internet, music player, itunes/ napster, etc. along w/ all features of a normal cell phone. A few drawbacks of the phone is, being the most major drawback to me, that it is not a touch screen phone. it has an external keypad, yet the numbers and letters are fairly small. the color quality and pixels in teh screen are fair, but can be of much higher quality, and falls way behind other phones, (iphone, or any other touchscreen.) A few perks, the external keypad which is nice, sound quality is fair, plenty of storage space, and ability to download a large number of applications. the phone is not new, so many of the kinks have been de-bugged, yet it is not the greatest phone, but good.
...

Maybe it's just because I text 24/7, but I've had this phone for 13 months, and 9 of the buttons you use to text have fallen off. The key pad has what seem to be, gel like letter pads over it and they have fallen off leaving the key pad part exposed and (I guess where my nails hit the buttons everytime) it has ripped open. The navigation bottons fall off and i have to click them back into place and overall, the phone is very slow and un-responsive. I don't recomend it to someone who texts often.
...

joanzack says "Hundreds of books in a package half the size of a DVD case!" about Sony (PRS-ACL1) for PRS-505

I actually don't own one of these toys yet, but my daughter was here this summer permanently attached to hers. Sony just dropped the price and has a new model out which I plan to purchase.

The Sony PRS-505 is so thin, it's about half the size of a DVD case. Even with it's leather cover I still think it's thinner than a DVD case.

What I really love about the Sony is the expandable memory. You could put tons of extra books on it, or, as my daughter has, 4 GB of music to listen to while reading.

This product's main competition is the Kindle. While the new kindle models allow for easier scrolling thru the book, a dictionary feature, downloadable content from the device, and the potential for text to speach (please note that few if any publishers have yet to make content that uses this "feature" on the kindle), the added cost is prohibitive, and in my opinion, not worth it.

I was concerned that the Sony eReader would be hard on my eyes, but the "liquid ink" technology is fabulous. ...
...

I received the Palm Centro smartphone for free because I extended my contract with Verizon Wireless. I have to say that I am very impressed! I love how I can add all of my contact information, photos, apps etc. on my PC and then just plug in my smartphone and sync everything!

I love the variety of applications for this phone. I download them on my PC and just synch them, and they they are on my smartphone! It takes decent pictures as well, a great thing to use in a pinch when I don't have my digital camera on me.

I love the touch screen and QWERTY board the best. That was the number one thing I was looking for in my new phone, and I can text so quick now! I love how it adds apostrophes to contractions while I'm texting, so I don't have to do it myself.

I recently upgraded to a new Palm Centro phone/organizer. I don't know how I survived for so long with separate phones and palms. This is truly the all-in-one for everyone. I can call or text, and with Sprint I get service almost everywhere, and use the bluetooth in the car. My entire life is organized on the calendar. It's amazingly easy to add events, since the keyboard is simple to use. And it has space for hundreds of contacts, all of which are simple to find in a number of different ways. I've programmed the smart button to bring up my work related memos, so I don't have to remember all the stuff I need on a daily basis.

I can listen to music or watch TV on demand while I'm stuck on line or in a waiting room, or play games like free cell or solitaire. And checking e-mail or surfing the web is a snap.

I have got this phone about a year ago and is working very well for me, even though some people have suggested about small QWERTY keypad, but I never had any issues with that small keypad. As a matter of fact it has been very easy to use keypad once you get used to it. I know it is iPhone world out there but this does provide all the funtionality you need in a PDA phone. It has all functionality that you look for in PDA Phone. It has organized, calendar, alarm, address book with pictures, real palyer, tasks, and world clock. Ofcoruse it has camera with video capabilities, it supports MP3 and has ptunes player. You can connect to internet if you have data plans or you could use the WiFi or Bluetooth to exchange data.

One thing it lack is large internal memory like iPhone, but again it is not iPhone and you can always connect external memory to store pictures, videos and mp3s. Also, the touch screen is kinda small so it doesn't go well with people who likes to play games, but again this...
...

1. You have to have an upgraded data plan to send and/or receive pictures because it is considered a "PDA" phone. Grrr...thats and additional $30 a month just to send and receive pics. However...the phone is capable w/o the plan if your carrier makes a mistake like mine did. I was able to send and receive pics for about 6 months til I was cut off and they informed me I needed a data plan. So...its the carrier, not the phone.

2. The plug for the charge became loose and now is extremely positional. I cant really use the wall charger anymore. I have to plug it into...
...

kerrynet32 says "Terrible smart phone" about Pantech Duo Smartphone

Buying the Pantech Duo made me hate Windows Mobile OS. It is so slow and not entertaining at all. It fields like it is cheaply made. There arent any games on it. Everything on it takes forever to load or do. It takes about an hour to delete a lot of texts at a time and there arent any downloadable games. The music storage is small. I dont like the keyboard on it. It is way too expensive what what it does. You must pay for the unlimited data plan and some features dont even work. Some programs randomly open when I have the phone in my pocket. I cant understand anything that anyone says on the phone when I am on the phone with someone trying to talk to them. The phone is heavy and thick. AT&T gave me a hard time when I went in to exchange the phone for something else. I had 3 replacement Pantech Duo's to see if any worked better but none worked good at all. The operating system upgrade didn t help either.
...

djfulfords says "I think the palm centro is a decent value for the money you pay " about Palm Centro Smartphone

The Palm Centro PDA is a good basic smart phone. It may not have quite as many of the features that some of the fancier/pricier ones do, but if you are a casual user, you probably don't need them either. It does cover most of the bases that the average user would want or need. You have video & photo capabilities, web browsing, email, texting, & even google earth. You will require a data plan or else you will incur some pretty costly bills without realizing that you are doing so. I love the touch screen. Its the main reason I purchased this phone. It also allows for memory expansion with a micro sd card.

It does lack a few things that many other phones offer now though. Yahoo is not an option on this phone. It was not a deal breaker for me but many people do find this to be one. There is a limited amount of free aps for this phone. Most Palm aps & games seem to be a bit pricey. I have also found that the phone tends to freeze a fair amount on me for no reason. I am not sure why.
