Larrisa says "The Westtell 6100F is an horrid little piece of equipment." about westtell 6100F

The Wesstell 6100 series is the standard DSL modem that is sent by Verizon for most DSL customers. The problems start with the fact that it is not just a modem, it also acts as a router that can only route to one device. This makes the "modem" very difficult to configure for use with a standard router.

The average home computer user with a decent understanding of how to follow instructions is not going to be able to configure any set up that will be functional in most homes. Because of this the cost of this "free" modem is significantly higher in tech support charges.

Additional draw backs include frequent resets, frequent failures, complete lack of product support, tech support being provided by people that know nothing at all about how the product functions (or is supposed to function) and over all sub par quality.

Avoid this product, it is not worth the headaches and hassels you will suffer with it.
...

lazybee says "Slick as a Ferrari Enzo but more powerful" about Linksys WRT120N

From opening the package to plugging in the setup for this new wireless router from Linksys you will be astounded by the ease and simplicity that comes with the Linksys WRT120N Wireless N router. The packaging for once was short as concise. Although the device is a miracle of modern engineering its flimsy plastic shell diminishes its value some. The included setup CD is completely unnecessary, however for those not so inclined to technology it is a valuable resource. The WRT120N has unrivaled range and speed when used in a home setting. When paired with a Linksys modem all you must do to get your home network online is plug both devices in. The WRT1020N uses the latest in wireless technology, Wireless N. This allows for higher speeds and longer ranges. Along with broadcasting the Wireless N frequency it broadcasts the wireless G and B signalss as well. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys working around their house or in the garden cord free.
...

sweetness203 says "This router is terrible" about Belkin WRT54GS Wireless Router

This router is absolutely terrible. The main problem I have with it is incompatibility. Whenever I try to hook my Wii system up to it via wireless internet, it just doesn't like the connection. And, whenever I do get the stupid thing to work, it seems to change its ip every minute. THis results in terrible reception and constant error messages that are extremely persistant. I can't believe how unrelieable this router is. It does have a few nice features though, so it's nont completely useless. For example, as long as you have a wireless card installed in your computer and the correct software installed, you can get wireless internet wherever you hook your computer up. Not only that, but you can log into the routers homepage and set up a password for your network so that your neighbors and surrounding inhabitants can't steal your internet. It's a fabulous feature that works flawlessly and one hundred percent to your advantage. Just don't forget the password!
...

My old, blue Linksys router started smoking and eventually gave out one day, and I needed to get a replacement pronto for my home office. I did some research online and found this Linksys Wireless N Gigabit router. It was exactly what we needed for our small home network. I ran to my local electronics big box store and picked this up on sale. I am so glad I did, because it doesn't run hot like the old Linksys router. It has easy to read icons that glow in different colors to show if you're connected and the strength of your connection. Right now, we only have two computers using the router, but we will eventually connect four. It comes with a CD to help you configure the router, and it was very easy to follow. I love the fact that there are no ugly antenna on this model. You can sit it flat on a table top or mount it on the wall. Plus, you get the great support of Cisco in case you run into any problems. I found it very user friendly, and even though I use the...
...

I'm reviewing a Motorola cable modem and it's fantastic, I had Fios before but nothing beats the cable, I should have made the switch a while ago.

Cablevision is the provider and I'm glad the salesperson insisted on having my service switched.

Now there are no more delays, no waiting to download.

The Motorola SBV5120 is a much smaller modem than what Fios had, the only problem is if you have more computers in the house, you have to add a another modem as well and connect to the Motorola SBV5120.

Can a router get much better than this? Complete with wireless G technology & detachable antennas for an easy upgrade to the next best thing.

You can simply replace the antennas for higher gain & compatible with some outdoor wifi antennas, you can't beat it. Light up the entire nieghborhood with wireless internet!

Also upgradable to 3rd party firmware (DD-WRT) for use as a WDS (wireless distribution system), you can fill all three stories of your mansion with wireless internet access, using more than one Linksys WRT54GS router.

You can also extend your range of the Linksys WRT54GS even MORE with the DD-WRT Firmware by turning up your Transmit power to a phenomenal gain of 251mw.

I have been using this router for some time & am completely satisfied with it's reliability & performance. The way I look at it, you just can't go wrong with the WRT54GS from Linksys. Reliable, Versitile & Upgradable.
...

this product works well with old computer syatems but does not run well when you try to install with a Windows Vista unit. I tried to go online to the manufactures website and found myself not getting anywhere with this product. they had no upgraded software and it was very confusing to install with your typical roadrunner service. i wouldnt recommend this brand to anyone who is trying to install a wireless unit with bright House cable internet. Also the range on the Wireless G is only 250 to 400 feet which is not very far if you have a very large home. If your home is over 1200 Sq feet i would recommend the wireless N router. The n router is faster and gives a range of 600 feet to 100 feet. I also think the router could use better Installation Software and the casing could be better. It seeems the current casing is fragile and breakable. Belkin has always been a good product and i wouldn't shy away from the product line at all. I just think this particular product could of been package...
...

mstkl says "Great, sleak design with powerfull wirelss reach!" about Linksys WRT160N 7 Wireless Router

This is a fantastic product. I've used it for about 3 months and it has worked perfectly since day one without a single problem. Set up is a breeze. Just put the cd in the computer and follow the prompts the longest part is waiting for your computer to read the disk.

The N-Wireless router is far more powerfull than the G-Wireless router. It also reaches throughout the entire house. No matter where you are there is a wireless activity; and not just a bar or two. Even on the other side of the house there is full bars. The Linksys N-Wireless Router even moves around household item. I can lay on the couch and not have any signal degredation.

When I first bought it I questioned if the extra money would be worth it and it has. The N-Wireless Router is to wireless internet what broadband is to dial-up or what cable/satellite is to antenna television. Eventually you wonder how you were able to live without it. If you are considering this product it is a definite buy.
...

reqork says "Very reliable." about Linksys WRT54GS Wireless Router

I purchased the Linksys wrt54gs router years ago and haven't had any serious problems with it since that initial setup. Linksys is a highly reliable brand name and is probably THE leader in the industry. The worst that has happened is my internet provider has the occasional issue that has made me had to reset the router (this has only happened about a total of 4 times since I bought and installed it). The speedbooster technology is an added bonus because it does give an added boost. I have replaced the antennas with the longer version to give me better range (about 400 ft) and still get great reception.

Didn't really need to use the setup software that came with it, it was pretty straight forward. Just be sure to setup the wireless security options. Also make sure the firmware is up to date. For added protection, be sure to enable the MAC filtering and disable the broadcast ID. This will give you greater security.
...

Linksys is always a reliable router. I was able to network all five of the computers in my home though one router. I also networked the printer wirelessly through the router so any computer can print using that printer. I am not the best at using things, but it was very easy to figure out.

One downside to Linksys is their customer support. Everytime I call up to try and get help they keep me waiting long and do not always know how to fix the problem. I found that it is better to go online and look up problems that others have had and figure out how they solved them. An example of a problem I had was that the router homepage kept coming up in a different language and I did not know how to change it. I called the linksys people and tried to get help, but was unsuccesful in doing so.

I then read about it online and figured out that I needed the orginal cd to install it on my computer and then it would come up in english. This is something you would think the linksys people would know, but...
...

Puntos Fuertes: Simple and effective out of the box, reasonable performance but not outstanding, WDS support, low cost if you shop carefully for rebates

Puntos Débiles: Non-detachable antenna, no email alerts, can't disable wireless, no DDNS support, only "pseudo" static IP assignments, no xmit power or other wireless adjustments.

Resumen: 2005-04-09 21:49:21 I've owned this model and several of the Belkin 54G F5D7230-4 routers. Take my word for it, the ONLY functional difference between this F5D7231-4 and the F5D7230-4 is, the former has theorectically double the performance. But the features and interface are virtually identical, so much so, you can easily mistake one for the other should you have both on your network like I do. Frankly, the HSM 125mbps mode is virtually useless, it will only work reliably in an environment w/ essentially zero 2.4Ghz interference, whatever the source. The slightest interference from a neighbor's wireless system, a portable phone, etc., and it drops...
...

Negatives- I bought this last May when it came out, and understood that it had a larger wireless signal range than their Wireless G. I lived in a house where I didn't test this out, and I never had a problem. When I moved to a two story house last summer, I discovered that I don't even get range downstairs, and the signal will often drop even when I am in the next room. I am not sure if it's because I live in an older victorian with small rooms and a lot of walls, but either way...it shouldn't do this! Pretty frustrating. I have moved it to different areas of the room it's plugged in to, but there isn't much cord length from the modem. I researched online to see if I could improve the signal, and they reccomend buying their rangemax wireless card with the router. The two are expensive if buying both, not worth it.

Positive attributes- easy to set up, worked fine in my one story modern house, aesthetically pleasing
...

I love saving money and keeping my life as uncomplicated as possible. We recently changed our internet service provider from the phone company to the cable company. Because of this change a new router was required for our home. My husband made a quick trip to Walmart in search of a quality, inexpensive new router. His trip yielded immediate results in the form of the Linksys Router model# WRT54GS2V1. Upon his return the router was out of the box and easily installed within a 15 minute time frame. We had both of our laptops up and running in a flash. That night we had a business meeting at our home and over 6 people brought their laptops and we had no difficulty getting everyone online.

We've had this router for approximately 2 months and would recommend it to anyone looking for an inexpensive and dependable router for their home or business. Our home has three levels and reception is excellent even on our exterior deck. The main thing that stands out for me...
...

It was easy to install and came with a disk that took use step by step through the hook-up. It also had software that stops others from using are wireless signal. This is a must or you'll run slower. The signal is very strong and we us all three systems at once with good signal strength. It has a small size and two antennas. Black and easy to see lights on the front so that you can see what is running. It also has a small reset button on the back so that you can reset to reinstall the system if you have too. This is nice, my computer had to be scrubbed and I had to use this feature. When I first looked into a router I bought a cheaper version and ended spending more money to buy the Lyksys system and have had no trouble with compatibility with my modem since. I highly recommend.
...

When I got my laptop, I needed a wireless router. I read some reviews and information on several different routers. I didn't need one with a big range (I live in a small place), but I didn't want one that was crap-then I would have to buy twice. So I came across the 'D-Link Wireless N Router (DIR-615), and I've heard many good things about this product. I went to Futureshop, got it, and loved it! The instructions were pretty easy to follow, took about 15-30 minutes. Hadn't had a problem with it yet!
...

craigmc says "Great for home networks" about Linksys WRT54G

This is an excellent unit for anyone considering a wireless home network. Very easy to setup and interfaces well with the cable modem from your cable company. Just think about it. No more fighting over who's turn it is to get on the internet. At my home, I can be on the computer in the back, while the wife or kid surfs from the living room. I haven't noticed any real slow down in bandwidth with the two of us on at the same time. Intergartion of the laptop was pretty straight forward and seemless. I truly think this was one of our best computer hardware buys yet. The price is very resonable. There is one draw back that they don't tell you about in the literature. Because these type of routers broadcast a signal, they can be intercepted by others. Our next door neighbors have a wireless router as well. When one of us logs on with the laptop we have to choose between our router or theres. So in essence anyone could park near us and use our internet connection.
...
