I bought a belkin wireless router for my sons computer so i did not have t pay the cable company extra money to hook up another computer it works great I also have a computer up staires in the house and found it also works there just plug the usb router in and your online all you have to do is run the software and plug the router in your computer> I had to call belkin once to set the computer and the belkin on my sons computer I was able to to the computer upstaires myself. I would recomend belkin wireless router to any one having more than one computer in the house it cost me around $60.00 the cable company wanted to charge $9.00 a month to rent there equiptment.there are no extra wires that need to be hooked up with the other computers. Ther are 3 different router the range on them is different i have the n router because i needed it to go upstares it has the longer range to it. If you need a shorter range the cost is a little less than $60.00. be will work just as good.
...

neiatze says "lasts" about Belkin G Plus

When we fist started talking about getting a wireless router, I knew nothing at all about them. Of all the places to learn about electronics, I went to ebay to check out "wireless routers". I got at least five thousand different entries for the wireless router. I plowed my way through these entries. I learned if you got a router you had to buy the same brand of router cards (or whatever they call those things you plug into your computer to pick up the signal of the router). Anyhow, I learned that with some routers you didn't need these cards, and the Belkin G Plus is one of them. All I did with the set up was attach my modem and main computer to the Belkin wireless router and I could use my laptop to pick up the internet as long as the laptop had an internet card. With these Belkin G Plus's you can easily switch from two computers picking up the signal to four computers picking up the signal with the flick of a switch. Easy set up. I have had mine for over 3 years and...
...

GINAKOENIGSMITH says "connects our home of computers" about NetGear WGR614 Wireless Router

We have and use on a daily basis this netgear router and for the most part love it! We have had no problems with it except that we burnt one up after a couple of years because we left it sit on the floor and it got too hot. It is easy to install and comes with good directions that are clear and easy to understand. It can sit on it's belly or stand upright with the feet that come with it. They have good technical support should you run into problems. Easy to hook up and light weight. Occasionally we have to reset the router but in the last year I would say only had to do it a couple of times. It is realitivly cheap compared to other brands and the signal goes thru our whole house ( which is a two story) with out any issues. I would definetly recommend this to others looking for a router to get wireless in their home! Money well spent if you are looking for a router. We found ours at Circuit City but I believe they also carry them at Best Buy.
...

The routers out of the box setup is easy. I like the advanced features I can enable most of them dont work anyone but there still useful. The router does a horrible job of putting requests in order or importance vis QOS. The router vastly slows down after a large number of DHCP clients join the network. The wireless N is nice to have but theres not so much of a difference as wireless G. The router sometimes has broadcasting issues when you change a setting you have to restore the entire router which is definitly a pain. I have noticed the router has occasional Power failures causing the network to lose connectivity. I dont suggest this product with use other then a wireless N network adapter. I would suggest purchasing a Linksys router that has the ability for custom firmware making a $60 router a $600 router. Sadly this Belkin router does not support custom firmware so if you want to have a lot of power forget about it. Go with a linksys.
...

lancer66 says "Fast, effective and efficient" about Siemens Speed Stream 5100

This Speed Stream 5100 modem was the perfect buy when I switched over to new DSL service. Thought I was going to be forced to buy from my provider but decided to get a list of the modems I could use efficiently with their service. So I searched the local used computer shops and got this one in new condition for a "dollar". Yes one dollar and it is in new condition. The catch was it had no power adapter. So again I searched and got a universal one for fifteen dollars. If I wouldn't of saved so much on buying the modem itself, I would of shopped around. But fifteen dollars is still cheap for an adapter.

Most modem/router makers have a website so you can all the details about your modem. Plus get the software/drivers you need for it to work with your pc. In fact most of your internet service providers have the software. That's why I specifically looked for a modem that was user friendly with my dsl service.

You can't go wrong with Siemens. Highly recommended.
...

When I purchased my Hewlett-Packard Pavilion laptop, I needed a way to interface with the internet. I already had a destop computer and it is wonderful. I knew that I required the router so went to Staples to make this purchase. They asked me a lot of questions as is their tendency in order to meet my particular needs. I had questions for them, too. Is this product truly "plug and play?" Can I use it to connect to my printer? Are there any special issues I should know about?

Yes, I can use the router to connect to my printer and that is great! The only thing I must do is make sure there is enough paper in the printer. It makes it possible for me to work with others in another room on common projects. I have several groups which I work with.

I didn't realize just how much I would love having this router. This enables me to use my laptop anywhere in the house. This is freedom in a new way which I love. I don't know how I managed to live without a router.
...

ElizabethAnnR says "Siemens SpeedStream 4100 is wonderful." about Siemens Speed Stream 4100

I spent many years on the internet using a dial-up modem. I was living in the Santa Cruz Mountains and my ISP was nearby so I was a happy camper. I then relocated to Fairfield, CA and my internet connection was so slow. I could enter a URL then go make a cup of coffee before I would get a good display. After contacting my ISP he explained that, for instance, an email sent from my computer would go to Sacramento, San Jose then to the ISP. When receiving messages they had to travel the reverse route. He recommended that I go with another ISP and upgrade to DSL. It wouldn't cost more than what I was paying for my phone service and the dial-up service. Their DSL was just very expensive.

I switched to a different ISP and they provided the Siemens SpeedStream 4100. The service provided by the ISP and this modem has been consistently excellent. I was so amazed at how much faster I could access internet pages. I love using DSL!
...

I bought my Linksys wireless router about 3 years ago for about $75. It was the first one I had ever purchased so I don't know that I can write a real effective review. I don't really have anything to compare to, but I think I have got a good life expectancy, thus far.

Having said that, I can comment that I have been pleased with the router. It works effectively for our 1200 square foot home. We have 3 laptops utilizing the wireless, and it seems to do very well.

The unit is thin and fits nicely next to the computer. I haven't had any trouble with it overheating or getting to warm to the touch (although I don't stack anything on top of it).

I have had some issues where one of the laptops won't connect to the internet, and I can't figure out why. If I just unplug all the cables from the Linksys and reset it, life goes back to normal. The frustrating part is that I don't know why this happens. I would prefer to understand what causes the need to reset so I can avoid having...
...

When my household only had one computer, we used a basic DSL modem from AT&T to hook it up to the internet. However, when my siblings started getting laptops, we knew we would have to buy a router to have all the laptops connected to the web. We didn't want to spend too much so we just went to Office Max, and it was on sale for $50. It's all white, with an antenna, and 4 ports in the back to hook up cables to it. It came with an installation disk, and a manuel, but I guess what doesn't nowadays? It was easy to understand and we got internet acess to all the computers within 20 minutes. Not bad right? We haven't had any issues with dropped signals, but occassionally, we have to turn off and on the router because of internet connectivity issues. Not sure if that's because of router or internet service provider. Anyway, to sum it up, if you have more than one computer in your household, and you want internet on all of them, this is cheap and it does the job.
...

I bought the Linksys WPC100 RangePlus Wireless Notbook Adapter for my Dell laptop and I must say that I am completely satisfied with the performance. The Linksys WPC100 RangePlus Wireless Notbook Adapter is the mid level wireless adapter. It easily allows you to wirelessly connect to the internet. It offers 128 bit encryption that helps keep your information safe while surfing the web.

What I liked most about the Linksys was how easy it was to install. You simple slide the wireless card into the laptops wireless slot. Cisco, which is the maker of the Linksys has pre-programed the adapter with on screen instalation instruction. These instruction pop up after inserting the adapter. The directions are very simple and walk you through the entire of the installation process.

Aside from the difficult installation process, the router met my basic function responsibilities. The new WPA/2 encryption method is a plus. The old WEP key's could be cracked in seconds. The security options, I feel, are a little bleak. Aside from those things, the wireless capabilities are admirable. The signals stretched through my house easily and all my computers are able to connect, and stay connected. The security settings are spread across various screens, with 64-bit and 128-bit WEP encryption available under the configuration utility's Security tab, as well as the virtual private networking (VPN) settings (normally, only businesses go through the complexity of setting up VPNs). In addition, the Setup screen lets you disable the SSID broadcast so that you must enter the router's SSID in a client's setup utility in order to connect. You'll find more security options under the Advanced Wireless tab, including the ability to stipulate shared keys for WEP, which means that any client...
...

I have had a few of these. Only one have them has died. But I have had really good luck with them. I won't buy any other brand because they are cheap and they work amazing. I have never had over heating problems or anything like that. The one bad one I got I got used from someone, so who knows what they did to it.I have seen these used in offices and are always on, never have to reset them, and haven't been turned off in like two years. And they just keep on working. The range is pretty average for these. But you can buy better antanas for them and what not. It is really easy to set up. Plug and play for the most part. Linsys has a great tech support. They always solve problems for you and they are good for there warenties. They are fast and you are able to change the defualt IP address to whatever you might want it to be. Defualt will not let you use windows xp as internet connection sharing, which is good why you can change that in the router.
...

Most businesses shun wireless. Despite the advances in wireless security over the years, there is still a basic belief the wireless communications are prone to hacking, when in fact there are a number of ways you can mitigate the risk to your data. So when a business I do work for wants to go wireless, I recommend the Linksys WRT310N Gigabit Router, for it security features, speed, and flexibility.

The 411

The Linksys WRT310N Gigabit Router operates at a frequency of 2.4 GHz, and supports the following wireless protocols: 802.11b/g and (draft) 802.11n. The silver and black, or all black WRT310N can transmit and receive networking traffic in a range of 1 - 54Mbps (b/g), and provides a maximum throughput 270Mbit/s over the wireless network when used with other 802.11n devices. But the WRT310N is also a 4-port 10/100/1000 Ethernet switch.

The WRT310N incorporates advanced security features into its design, these include: Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA2 Enterprise) with up to 256-bit...
...

The NetGear RangeMax WPN824 Wireless Router is well designed and incredibly easy to install and use. Its connectivity is excellent, and provides the means to easily operate multiple wireless internet connections at any one time. Its price is comparable to that of any similar or equivalent model and, value for money, for this reason, can be described as good. Anyone looking to purchase a means to access their broadband internet connection wirelessly would be advised to consider this make and model, for the ease with which it is installed, if nothing else. The unit has seven separate antennae which work together to ensure a consistent signal throughout the effective range of the router. Each of these has a corresponding blue LED inside the translucent circular logo on the top of the unit.

WRT54G Wireless Router by cisco

The Good: Speeds approaching those of 802.11a at an 802.11b router price; easy setup.

The bad: Short operating range compared to that of 802.11b; mixing 802.11b and Wireless-G clients results in poor 802.11b performance; one-year warranty.

The bottom line: The low-cost Linksys WRT54G features fairly high throughput. But it has a relatively short operating range, and its poor performance with 802.11b devices makes claimed backward compatibility moot.

Setup screen makes configuration easy.

The WRT54G's only significant diversion from the usual setup procedure is the Wireless-G control. By default, the WRT54G is set to Mixed so that both Wireless-G and 802.11b clients can connect. However, given the slow throughput, we experienced when connecting to both types of clients simultaneously, you'd be better off setting the router to G-Only and forgetting about backward compatibility.

A helpful quick-start guide gets you rolling.

When I went to purchase my first laptop at Office Depot, the sales rep told me that I needed to purchase a router. When I asked him what he suggested, he said that he owned a netgear router and it was great, so that is what I purchased. I bought the router over two years ago and it works great. It has never let me down as far as keeping me online. I only paid about fifty dollars for it and I think it was worth every penny. I have a great wireless range with this router, I am able to work on my laptop out in my yard and with no interruptions or losing of connection. Many of my friends and family are starting to see the benefits that going wireless can bring you and I have recommended the netgear router to them all. I have found it very easy to set up and use. The netgear router comes with a great warranty because they know it works great and will need no technical support. If I had the option to buy another router, I would still buy the netgear router.
...

We love the Linksys RangePlus WRT110 Wireless Router! Now I certainly do not consider myself a Computer Geek or Techie, but I don't think that I am computer illeterate either :) This is the third router that we purchased; we took the previous two back because they were to difficutlt to install. There were tons of settings, firewalls and so on. This router walked us throught the set up with no problems whatsoever. The signals is very good... not quite "great". However, I will still recommend this product.
...

CyndiA says "Netgear router made my home wireless after much frustration. " about NetGear WGR614v3 Wireless Router

We have multiple computers here but had only one internet hook up, so I decided a wireless router was in order. Off to Staples I went in search of a router knowing little other than that we could all go online if I hooked up a wireless router.

I was looking at the routers, and the Staples guy offered to help. I was looking at some more expensive ones, but he told me that the only difference was that the signal would go further, so unless I have a really huge house that the low end router would be fine. Since I do not have a mansion to say the least, I went with the inexpensive Netgear Wireless-G router WGR614.

This router does work with Vista (as noted on the box), thank goodness. Sadly, I bought a computer when they put out Vista, and that I do not like nor do many computer add ons which won't work seamlessly like they do with other operating systems.

Netgear must have gone paperless. There are no directions. They have a CD that you stick in which is supposed to guide you, but if you...
...
