tracy06P says "I have had nothing but problems with this computer" about Compaq Presario desktop computer

I purchased this computer about 2 years ago. Within 2 months of purchase, it had a major malfunction and was sent into manufacturer. Received it back a month later. It ran ok for awhile then began having small issues such as poor graphics, running slow, etc. Now the computer will not even load. Everytime you shut it down and boot it back up, it needs to go through the repair. Sometimes it will complete it, other times it will not. It just goes to a black screen with a flashing cursor and does nothing. This is a real problem for me because my child uses it for school work and I am supposed to be completing a online college class. I feel that the main problem with this computer is the OS. It runs Vista. I have not been impressed with the OS from the beginning. I have talked with a lot of computer experts over the issues that my computer is having and all seem to say the same thing, "We have had a lot of people with similar issues and they are all running Vista as well." They reccomend upgrading...
...

willi185 says "NEW 2009 Windows 7 " about Dell Windows 7 desktop computer

Monica Chen, Taipei; Joseph Tsai, DIGITIMES [Friday 6 November 2009]

Demand for PCs and hardware did not turn strong after the launch of Windows 7 in late October and is unlikely to do so in 2009 due to most Windows Vista users not needing to replace their PCs in order to upgrade to Windows 7, while some users are waiting for Microsoft to release Windows 7's first service pack, according to sources at PC vendors.

From the technology perspective, Windows 7's touchscreen capabilities are currently unable to provide significant value in terms of usage on notebooks and netbooks, while sales of tablet PCs have also not seen any dramatic growth since the launch of the software, leaving large-size all-in-one PCs as the only PC segment to benefit from the technology so far, the sources claimed.

However, since the all-in-one PC segment is expected to only reach 5% of the PC market in 2009 and 9% in 2010, vendors are likely to see limited sales growth, according to previous reports.

grenmse says "Budjet computer with minimum features." about Hewlett Packard a1528x desktop computer

I came across this HP a1528x machine four years ago and liked it because it was a budjet friendly machine with an above average graphics card and sound at the time. The operating system was also a plus considering its backwards compatabily with games and other software. I added an extra gigabyte of ram and an external floppy drive, but other than that the specs have generally remained the same. I was a little disappointed in the lack of upgradeability.

Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE, HP vs19 flat panel monitor 32 bit resolution, four usb slots, Realtek High Definition Audio, DVD/RW with lightscribe, five media card slots. Microsoft Works.

After having a series of DELL computers I was a bit uneasy about trusting the HP backup system that uses a seperate, protected section of the hard drive to fix any problems instead of the set of CDs I was used to. The particular system I purchased had a bum hard drive and the HP customer service center was far from helpful. (After several days of dilligent...
...

FranSusan says "Dell All-in-One: perfect for areas where you want a sleek look." about Dell XPS One desktop computer

This is a computer that I purchased for its good looks! I have a small, built-in desk in the kitchen, and wanted a computer that would fit the desk. This is it! It is very sleek, takes up much less space than other PCs, and looks good in most any setting. The perfect touch about this computer is its All-in-One feature. The computer is in the monitor so there's no tower. The keyboard and mouse are wireless so there are fewer wires to interfere with the uncluttered look I needed for a tight space. The computer is a good computer as well. I've had it for almost 2 years and have never had a problem with it. Never had to call Dell for any reason. I have it set to update automatically, and updates are done seamlessly. I am computer literate and make sure to take care of the computer by frequently cleaning it of clutter.

Relatively speaking, this is an expensive computer, but when you must have a certain look to fit your decor, this is your computer. I've had Dell computers in the...
...

When you initially buy the computer it is filled with hp bloatware. 2 gigabytes of ram in todays standard is nothing and the computer pushes no processing power. The case on thee computerr is horribly contructed not allowing any airflow. The media card reader constantly has errors. The computer originaly came with an oem copy of Windows Vista. With Vista installed the computer couldnt execute basic tasks. After 2 years of being released windows 7 arrived which helped out the conputer a little. The value of the computer wasnt much better 2 years ago the hp a1730n cost around $1800 now I can go get a compaq with twice the amount of power for around $300. I wouldnt suggest this computer building a computer is a much better road to take. Integrated graphics are horrible for gaming and the motherboard is stripped down with a lack of sata and PCI-E slots. The computer rates a 3.0 in the windows rating index and it doesnt even deserve that.
...

I have an HP Media Center PC w/ a HP vs 19 moniter and love it! It's by far the best computer I have had. I bought it almost 4 years ago and have only had a few little issues with it and that was only because I turned off the computer during an update and it went black on me. I replaced a small part and it has worked wonderfully ever since. It is very user friendly and quick. My favorite thing is all the slots. I can put 6 different size media cards directly into the pc without an adapter. It also has as many slots as anyone could need to plug in USB cords. Not only that but with this computer I can burn DVDs and create a custom label directly to the disk with the LIghtScribe feature. personally I have never used that option but if I needed to then it is there and I don't have to have some one else do it for me. I love this computer and hope it continues to stay up to speed because I don't want to have to try and find one that competes with it.
...

solvseus says "Great as a gift" about Apple Mac Mini

I use a Mac Pro myself, running Windows XP occasionally with VM Ware from my Boot Camp partition. I like that I can add extra video cards (currently running 3 monitors, 2 plus TV-out to my plasma) and have a bunch of hard drives. But this made a nice gift for my Mom who had been struggling with Windows. XP got ok over time, but Vista was horrible. Windows 7 is a little better, but not much, and would have slowed her PC down even more. Already running at a crawl. Even without all the spyware and viruses. So I set her up with a Mac mini and she loves it. It's actually gotten even faster with OS X 10.6. All she does is check her e-mail, surf the web a little, write up documents sometimes, and play a few games like Snood and Bejeweled. You can actually go a little cheaper with a refurbished machine, my only real complaint that Macs can still be a little more expensive, especially if you don't need all the extra stuff, but it's not too bad. Love the compact size. Just added an extra hard drive...
...

Tharkis says "The Alienware Area 51 is a good system for top performance." about Alienware Area 51 desktop computer

The Alienware Area 51 is a good overall computer system. Every system has its own flaws and the Area 51 is no exceptop. Heat seems to be the main issue with the cpu, tho this tends to be a localized issue of the Pentium 4 moniker. The motherboard is loaded with features sure to please anyone looking to add on to the system, modify the system or overclock to their hearts content. Another drawback that may affect your buying decision is the slight lack of room inside the case. Though there is plenty of room vertically, horizontally there seems to be a bit of an issue. People with longer video cards may have problems fitting their cards in on first try. Another key staple of this system is the onboard RAID support. Plug and play, make a couple selections in the bios, and bam, RAID 0 or RAID 1, or whichever RAID set up your heart so desires. Keep in mind that to set up a RAID system, you need blank formatted hard drives of the same size and speed. Much like setting up an SLI or Crossfire system...
...

this computer is good at times then at other times it isn't. The bad part about this is once it gets old dell will not update my warranty or give me a new one even after i offered to pay for it. i don't have the money to get a new computer. But over all this computer does get the job done at times. it does not have a lot of memory on it and being that it is a old model it wont let me connect to the internet at times. The screen goes out at times. The screen saver goes out at times also to the point where if i move the mouse or push the space bar the screen will not come on. so i have to end up restarting the computer. the mouse that comes with it is the kind with the ball and that don't last very long. so if you want this computer go ahead but get a laser mouse. the speakers are okay it sounds like a low tv sometimes. so the sound is kind of ok. the wires well lets say that there are a lot and i have a toddler so that is never good. the keyboard that comes with it works sometimes...
...

The Inspiron desktop is intended to give you the memory, hard drives, graphics, audio/media capacity you want. You can use your Inspiron desktop to see the sights, build and fool around because there is a fully loaded selection of media options including Windows Media Center, an integrated TV Tuner, a high definition wide screen monitor and more. Overall I love the computer. I have a 19 inch flat screen monitor and I love it. Nevertheless, I also purchased the 5-piece speaker system, which left me very dissatisfied. I had to have my brother assemble the system (after over a year without use) and now, after having used it I'd say for a month's time so far, it is very poor quality, with static developing after about a half hour's use. Like I said, I love the computer the only thing is the speakers are to low. I've had my computer for about two years and I have been able to get loads of things acomplished.

I was a little surprised when I received my new Dell desktop, but I was pleasantly surprised. I don't care for the new-fangled flat screen monitors, sure they take up less space on my desk, but the display on my old CRT monitor is so much nicer, more brilliant. I don't know how to explain it, but I really love the old monitors, they just take up too much space. I still have my old Dell, it's running on XP and I think I like XP better than Vista Home Premium, but so far, so good. I've only had this PC for 2 months, so I guess we'll see. One thing I don't like about it is the fact that I ordered a 640 GB hard drive, and the anti-virus program updates everyday, so I've already used 200 GB of the hard drive space but I haven't saved anything I wanted to save yet! It's all programs and updates. I wish the sales rep would have talked me into buying the new TB hard drive because I'm afraid I'm going to run out of space before it's time to replace the computer. I guess I'll have to deal...
...

The low cost Presario is in Compaq's budget "SR" line of PCs. The no frills chassis echoes our excitement about the internal components; the system features a 2.5GHz AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800 CPU, 2GB of RAM, an integrated Nvidia graphics chip, a single 320GB hard drive, and 32-bit windows vista home Premium.

The dual layer DVD lives on top of the faceplate and a space is available directly below it for another IDE-loading hard drive. Toward the bottom of the tower, you'll find two USB 2.0 ports and a couple of audio jacks for a stereo mic and a set of headphones. Unfortunately, the Presario misses a step by omitting a front-mounted media-card reader,

My biggest issue is with Hewlett Packard customer support. All of the support personnel are overseas, with thick accents making it very difficult to understand them. All of their responses are canned and are not helpful. If you get transferred to another department, also overseas, you have to go through the entire issue again even though they have notes in your record right in front of them. I have spent many hours on the phone trying to get help from Hewlett Packard customer support. My advice to everyone is not to bother wasting your time calling Hewlett Packard customer support...instead find someone else who is willing to help you.
...

Yes, I used to be anti-Apple. Yes, I used to not understand the big deal about Macs. Yes, I used to think Apple products were more fluff than regular PCs. Things change.

I got my iMac for my birthday in January 09 (thanks to my sweet and extravagant wife). Just when I was feeling pretty competent with Windows XP, I faced learning about operating my Apple iMac All-in-One 24" desktop computer and about using Mac OS 10.5.8.

Things worked differently on the Apple iMac All-n-One 24" desktop computer, but learning how to use the iMac was pretty easy. I quickly grew to love working on it.

michmedic says "Above average computer for the above average family!" about Hewlett Packard HP Pavilion p6140f Desktop PC desktop computer

We needed to upgrade our ten year old computer and after searching and researching, we found the HP Pavilion p6140f exactly what we wanted!

Since I take a lot of photos and do a lot of digital scrapbooking and photo editing, I needed a lot of hard drive space and memory. With 1 Terabyte of hard drive space and 8 gigabytes of memory, I couldn't go wrong! I can run 10 windows in internet explorer, Paitn Shop Pro and have a DVD running all at the same time without even a hiccup!

I have to admit, I am a fan of the Lightscribe! i LOVE making my CD's and DVD's look far more professional than taking a magic marker to it or slapping a sticker on it.

The only issue I have had (and it's a very small, very minor one) is that it can be a little loud. I don't mean loud like airplane over your head loud, but loud for a newer PC. It really isn't bothersome (at least not to me) and I don't think it should be a deterrant in making a computer purchase.

This is definitely a great computer for...
...

I have always been a faithful pc user, but after having 3 pcs crash on in me within 7 years, I decided to give apple a chance. This computer is awesome! It does so much more and is much easier to maitain and use. Plus it looks great and takes up very little space. I cant believe how much money I have saved not having to purchase virus protectors since it updates for free and on its own! I will never purchase a pc again! The mac was the same price and will last longer than any pc. The photo lab is amazing because it downloads on its own. All you do is plug any device in to the keyboard and it does all the work. No more downloading software and fighting with it to work. It is compatible with every device we have tried. Also love the ease of being able to work on numerous projects at once and not have to worry about going on and offline or opening and closing windows. The internet browser is much faster and easier to use than the pc version I had. I would highly recommend...
...

sstenner says "Once you've tried Mac, you'll never go back!" about Apple iMac 24" Desktop Computer

I am a Mac addict. But, I was not ALWAYS a Mac Addict. Mac Addicts are not BORN, Mac Addicts are MADE.

After buying a couple of "PC's" and struggling with software conflicts and hardware conflicts, I bought my first Mac, an 8500, and I have never looked back.

If you want to putz and futz with your "system", maybe you want a Windows OS machine. BUT, if you want to get your work done, and if you want to have FUN and do cool things with EASE, then you NEED a Mac! No ifs, ands or buts. It's simple.

Don't be fooled by people who tell you Macs just "look good"...those are desperate words, whispered to anyone who will listen, by MicroSoft because, if people realize that they don't have to deal with the blue screen of death, crashed computers and lots of software and hardware conflicts, Mr. Softie, as Microsoft is called by some, will very very quickly lose it's market share.

Don't be fooled by people who tell you you can't do anything and everything you NEED and WANT to do on a Mac....
...
