catchley269 says "This is the beer that made me love hops" about Red Hook ESB

Clear, copper body, with a thin, off-white head. Cobweb-like lacing. — — The aroma was all right, but I wish it was a bit more pronounced. Inviting balance of malts and hops. — — The flavor confuses me, as I don't think it's quite correct for the style. If the malt played a slightly larger role, or the hops took just one step back, then I think this would be a much better ESB. Yes, the balance gets a little better as the beer warms, but I don't like having to wait for that. — The mouthfeel is very nice, however. The weight is good, and the carbonation is just right. — — Overall, I don't mind this beer, but I was hoping the malts and hops would have been more balanced. The flavor of all Red Hook beers has changed over the last few years. They are getting just a little lighter in...

catchley269 says "Great easy drinking IPA" about Red Hook IPA

This one is clear light-amber with a fluffy two finger head in my pint glass. This shows pretty good retention and deposits a good deal of lace on the glass as I work my way down the pint. This looks exactly as an IPA should. Nothing more, nothing less. — Pine needles are the dominant hop note, and I feel like I'm in a dark pine forest in early autumn. I can almost feel the soft orange needles beneath my feet. The malt backbone could be a bit more assertive, but it does allow the piny freshness shine through. Some grapefruit zest is present also. — Zesty grapefruit plays second fiddle to the pine flavors, and the malt is subdued as it is in the nose. Fruity and fresh. Some sweetness comes out as it warms, and helps balance the bitterness. — Moderate carbonation and a medium body make this a pleasant, if a bit stock IPA. Loads of pine and grapefruit bitterness combine to make an almost everlasting aftertaste. I'll be tasting this later today I'm sure! — An all...

catchley269 says "the best stout ever made" about Guinness Stout Draught Beer

Pours solid black with brown highlights, and the trademark creamy white head with cascading nitro action. Aroma is of dark roasted malts, with slight chocolate and toffee notes; unfortunately, the aroma is pretty faint and tame. The taste is of roasted malts, bitter chocolate and some coffee, with tiny hints of molasses; the finish has a burnt coffee and earthy hop bitterness. The overall effect is relatively mild compared to the giant, thick stouts that get the highest accolades here, but I think that works more in its favor. The mouthfeel is silky and creamy, with a medium-to-light body and mild carbonation; the finish is slightly dry. While this isn't a huge, complex sipping stout, it's not meant to be: It's what you get pints of at the local bar when you want to just have a good time with your friends. I could drink this all...

catchley269 says "Great all around porter" about Anchor Steam Porter

12 oz bottle. 6N1. Fig and warm brandy aroma. Bourbon cask and tangy roast malt. Restrained. Pours a dark, dark mahogany, with a big finger of fluffy cocoa-tinted soap above. Flavor is a lightly watery, yet nuanced milk chocolate, hazelnut paste, and almond butter, with a curt corner of cafe au lait, turbinado, and creamed soup. Some estery, fruity yeast character in good fashion, tinted with some buttery alcohol character. Finishes dry, clean and calmly with a sweet nip of chocolate mint. Fine...

catchley269 says "Heavy and full a beer you can eat" about Anchor Brewing Anchor Bock Beer

355ml bottle. — Pours a clear copper honey tone with a cream colored foamy head that sticks around and leaves a little bit of lacing. Aroma is sweet with some molasses and fruit. Taste is bready with a grainy white wine flavor and citrus hops. Medium thick feel with a sweet and sticky finish. Not bad, but could be cleaned up and balanced a bit more maybe. Very thick taste. I would drink it in only small...

catchley269 says "I never stopped laughing" about Hot Fuzz

In 2004, they brought you the Zombie horror spoof Shaun of the Dead, a huge hit in their native Britain, and a film that developed quite the cult following here in America. — Now, director Edgar Wright, along with friends and co-writers Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, take on the big budget Hollywood blockbuster in Hot Fuzz. Much like Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz was gigantic in England, and is generating good word of mouth here in the States as well. I laughed throughout the whole film. However the humor is very...

catchley269 says "amazing" about Transformers

Great way of taking a cartoon and toy I grew up with and making an intelligent film. Transformers was one of my childhood favorites; I had all the action figures. I first heard about this movie while watching Clerks 2 but, I thought it was just something thrown in the movie for dialog and humor.I never thought they would be able to pull this off. The special effects and cgi were very realistic. I just wish megatron was a gun like in the old cartoons. I would recommend this film to people of all...
