bondsir says "A Show that Dr. Suess Could Have Written..." about Pushing Daisies

Pushing Daisies (ABC, Wednesays at 8 P.M.) is one of the quirkiest, most-inventive shows I have come across in a long time.

I watch a lot of TV - and will "sample" just about anything, sans horror junk and soap operas, so that I can figure out what works for me.

Thus my wife and I sat down in September and tried Pushing Daisies.

Granted the plot - a piemaker has the power to touch a dead person and bring them back to life for one full minute - was very off the wall - but I was intrigued by the style of the show none the less.

One hour later, we were both hooked!

Everyhting about the show - from the set design to the fast-paced, very witty dialogue - make it destination TV.

And, as in one of my other favorite shows, Burn Notice - the voice-over narrative makes it that much more entertaining. It's as if Dr. Seuss where reading out loud from Fox in Sox or one of his other classics!

Invest at least two hours - for two episodes - in Pushing Daisies - it may take you that long to catch up!

What at......

bondsir says "Comfort Food at its Best!" about Elmo's Diner - Durham, NC

Elmo's Diner, located on 9th Street in Durham close to Duke University, is a place where Richie Cunningham would have hung out.

If you LOVE comfort food - burgers, reubens, malts and fries, then Elmo's is the place for you.

On my latest visit I enjoyed an open faced turkey sandwich, covered in home-style gravy and served with mash potatoes and a side of fresh cinnamon apples. OH MAN!

To top it off, the banana pudding was extraordinary, just the right way to finish a meal.

Elmo's also serve breakfast ALL DAY!

Prices are reasonable - my lunch companion and I got out of the restaurant for less than $20.

So, for a homecooked meal that is sure to please, try Elmo's. And say hi! to the Fonz for me!

...

bondsir says "Denzel and Crowe - a POWERFUL combination!" about American Gangster

To date, I have yet to see a bad Denzel Washington movie. Granted, I like some (Training Day) more than others.

With Training Day in mind, American Gangster shows Denzel at his baddest - mean, calculating and very icy.

Add the amazing direction of Ridley Scott and a co-star like Russell Crowe and you have a POWERFUL combination.

The most fascinating thing about this movie for us (my wife and I are avid movie goers) was the parallel stories told on the screen. Not until the last 20 minutes of the film do you see Denzel and Crowe on in the same sceen!

Josh Brolin is also super as a greasy cop on the take, and Ruby Dee is awesome as Denzel's mom.

Talk has already begun about Dee winning a Best Supporting Actress Oscar. If I was voting, she'd be my pick.

Inciteful, gritty and an attention grabber, American Gangster is a must see movie.

Enjoy!...

bondsir says "Gem in the City" about Best Western Seaport Inn Downtown - New York City, NY

I travel on business at least twice a month and get to New York City every 2 months or so.

On my last trip I discovered this Gem in the City - Best Western Seaport Inn.

Located next to the Brooklyn Bridge and (obviously) the Seaport Village, this quaint hotel offers clean, comfortable rooms at a fraction of the cost of the the midtown hotels I normally have to stay at when I come to NYC.

The staff is friendly and welcoming, letting you know about interesting things to do in the neighborhood. The rooms are warm and inviting, large by NYC standards and inviting in their interiors.

The neighborhood is the real plus, with small bodegas, shops and Seaport Village within walking distance (and I'm not a walker AT ALL).

Overall, a highly recommended location. Enjoy!...
