bbbek says "Are wild animals and should be left that way." about Skunk

Skunks are wild animals and should not be domesticated pets. Many states do not allow them as pets. Even if they're descented and neutered, they're still wild. They're noctural and very destructive. Raccoons, foxes, rabbits, etc. are all better left outside in their natural environment....

bbbek says "Good way to get hurt" about Flexi 2-8 Retractable Leash

If your dog weighs more than 5#, get a proper leather leash. A quick jerk from a retractable is a good way to injure your hand, wrist, arm or shoulder. It doesn't take much. Most places have a 6 foot leash law, many property owners aren't real thrilled with your dog crapping 25' up on their lawn. Teach your dog to walk properly on a leash. A retractable really doesn't teach them anything.
...

bbbek says "Good way to get injured" about Optima Leash

If your dog weighs more than 5#, get a proper leather leash. It doesn't take much for a retractable leash to do serious damage to your wrist, arm or shoulder if the dog pulls just right. Most city ordinances specify a 6 foot leash. Property owners aren't real thrilled having your dog run all over their yard with 25' of a retractable. If you aren't as quick as the dog, they can also end up in the street. A nice leather leash will last a lifetime and is a lot easier on your hands too....

bbbek says "Over-priced, I wouldn't buy it." about FURminator Grooming Tool - Large

While this does work, it is pretty spendy. A much cheaper alterative that works just as well is a clipper blade. It can be from an old non-working clipper and doesn't need to be sharp. Pulls the dead hair out just as well. If you need a handle, the shed-ender is just as nice for $9. I use mine especially during shedding season. Really gets out the dead hair....

bbbek says "Definitely a BUY!" about As Seen On TV Shed Ender

For the price, this is a really good product. The much higher priced Furminator does the same job for essential triple the price. Basically if you have an old clipper blade, you could use this instead. Even is the blade is dull it will work just fine. It doesn't cut the fur, it pulls out all the dead hair. Always a good idea to use it outside....

bbbek says "My dogs destroy them." about Kong Red Tuffy

If your dog isn't much of a chewer, you're probably okay. I have an 50# English Bull Terrier who can destroy one in a matter of hours. She won't eat it, just shred it into pieces. I would love for the Kong people to let this dog test Kongs for them. We end up with a trail of rubber erasers all over the house....

bbbek says "Skunks are not your friend" about Nature's Miracle Stain & Order Remover

I have Bloodhounds and they seem to tangle with skunks on a regular basis. Nature's Miracle is excellent stuff for getting rid of the stench. Yes, it is expensive. It probably works because of all the alcohol. I've only used it for the dogs though, I can't vouch for it on cats....

bbbek says "The Best way to get a dog." about Dog Rescues

This is the best way to go. Don't buy a puppy from a pet store and support puppymills. There are many purebred rescues. Try: http://www.petfinder.com

Yes, rescues might be picky. They don't want dogs going to Mike Vick, Ellen deGeneres or getting dumped. 4-6 Million dogs and more cats are euthanized in the US every year. Save a life. Many of these animals are purebreds and have lost their homes through no fault of their own......death, divorce, etc. They love people and they have been housetrained(big plus!) Decent rescues spay and neuter their animals and fully vet. Quite a bargain! Call a vet and ask what they would charge to do the same thing.
...

bbbek says "Buy this puppy!" about Dyson - Animal DC07 - Upright Bagless Cyclonic Vacuum

I hate dog hair and own four dogs, plus I do rescue. Our dogs get brushed daily and washed regularly, still you can pretty much craft a new pup out of dog hair. This vacuum is spendy, but worth it because IT WORKS! It is a gawd-awful color and looks like it's out of Dr. Suess. It won't clog and I've used it for a couple years now with no problems.
...

bbbek says "Don't waste your money." about iRobot Roomba Sage For Pets

While the Roomba is a nice idea, it doesn't handle heavy dog hair. I have four dogs. Your best bet is a good quality vacuum. If you have the money, go for a Dyson. I also like the rubber broom. They're about $10 and really get up the hair, especially on hard floors....
